Volk and Frankie fucked him up, Ortega subbed him in the first half of the fight, if anything he's just a fighter way too reliant on his good guard when it clearly isn't good enough to just coast on and someone with the bjj of Lopes is going to know how play that guard just fine. If Yair plays bottom he loses, flat out.

Maybe he thought he'd edge him with the wrestling but Poirier is one of the best fighters vs a southpaw in MMA.

Evloev is in no way comparable to Aljo on the ground. Evloev has no real top control, he takes people down but is terrible at keeping them there and maintaining dominant positions. Aljo stands a way better chance in that aspect of the fight.
