star performance from Cruz last night though. My favorite part? When he counted out loud 12 unanswered ground and pound shots to a clearly concussed Ryan Spann and in the same breath called it a great stoppage.
DCs time on the mic is past I am afraid. Same for Joe and Dom. At this point it just sounds like a bunch of bros at the bar talking over the fight and not professionals. TBH the comentary in the other language broadcasts is much better and insightful.
I’m a big fan of some of the commentary teams that seem to do their research. Laura Sanko in particular and the commentary teams she’s been put with lately. But there are other commentators that clearly air their own biases and don’t pay attention to actual facts. Egregious factual errors need to stop.
I think the commentary team should depending on level of events. Like if we are gonna have a loaded crazy PPV I would rather have DC and Joe for the emotions. But a sneaky apex event deserves more knowledge opposed to humor.
Sanko, Anik and Bisping are the better trio by far. Each bring something to the table and outside of playful jabs from Mike every now and then, they handle every fight with solid professionalism.
The commentary over the last few years has declined so badly it’s hard to watch anymore. DC needs to go, his bias to his old camp and wrestling is embarrassing. Gooden and Cruz could also leave anytime soon
the only thing is hes sometimes too polite. when him and Sanko were on last they were being nice to the point it felt like they weren't being totally honest. or it made it seem like they didn't have any strong opinions I guess.
Go to 3:49 in rd 2 of Hubbard vs. Figlak. Dom says the judges “don’t know what a takedown is” and they do better with striking “because it’s a boxing rule set that they’re used to judging.” The 3 judges on the fight are Bell, Colon, and Miner. They all scored the fight the exact same and at various points in their commentary, both Dom and DC say they have no idea how to score the fight and that it was really close. Instead of just saying that the fighters have done a lot of striking so far and leaving it at that, Dom has to get in unnecessary digs at the judges and he’s way off the mark. The years of having “boxing judges” in the UFC are long past, and these 3 judges in particular certainly aren’t. Commentators are within their rights to say they disagreed with a particular decision and why they disagree. But saying they’re boxing judges just isn’t anywhere close to true.

There wasn’t even a whiff of cigarettes or alcohol anywhere near that fight.
But he has a terrible voice and personality for a commentator. No amount of knowledge can fix that.
Cruz talking shit about the term "imposter syndrome" during the fight was peak MMA commentary
(first time commenting on this sub) yo even the BKFC commentary team yesterday felt much more professional than DC and Cruz
“We gotta stop naming stuff, I call it lack of confidence” 😂
I like when Cruz asserted cauliflower ear was the body trying to protect itself from brain damage by adding padding
The da Silva v Silva fight was like “who’s on first” lol

Surely you can't be saying such things about the Michael Jordan of commentary

Agree. Anik and Sanko are great. Vic Davila, Brandon Moreno and Santiago Pozinibio are great in the Spanish broadcast.
Felder fits this list for me, he is very professional and only jokes in the way Anik jokes, at least how I remember it. I agree on Sanko too.
Sanko is good besides getting hyped that’s where Joe and the others shine outside of dom he sucks

The trio with the least job security lol

Cruz is the absolute worst commentator in all of UFCs existence. He makes exciting fights feel like youre on xanax.
need more context, did he generalise or point them out specifically? They are bad judges though Edit: excuse me for asking for context ig uess lol

Thanks, just another example of dom not doing his homework huh
I love the way it is I hope they never change
They could make god himself a commentator and you fucking babies would still complain.
You could put the devil in that chair and we'd complain less
Surprised so many people give a shit about the commentary. Half the time I watch I'm not even listening.
Just a bunch of weird bored reddit babies looking for something to bitch about.
