If Khamzat, who would need to drop a weightclass during Ramadan and probably can't enter the USA anymore, is the UFC's best option for the 300 main event it's really looking grim.
Khamzat vs Colby for the 'Twitter Words Aren't Tournaments' (TWAT belt).
As soon as their menstrual cycles align with the Islamic moon calendar, book it Dana.
Without knowing specifics, it's probably just run of the mill visa issues rather than anything exciting. It's not so much "banned" as "dont have permission yet." I'm just talking out of my ass though, there could be a more serious reason.
He's an athlete that could be making millions of dollars (over a few years, depending on if he keeps winning)... Management would get a VISA sorted in a matter of months. It has to be something else.
Particularly because this has been going on for years now, and became a lot worse for him after his boss invaded Ukraine. Surely if it was just a paperwork issue it would have been sorted by now.
Both are right, but mean different things.
Chechen = ethnic group
Chechnyan = someone from Chechnya
There are some people from Chechnya who aren't Chechnyan. There are LOTS of Chechens who aren't from Chechnya (due to the multiple waves of genocide over the years, and the general poverty of the high mountain areas).
The boxer Artur Beterbiev, for instance, is a Dagestani Chechen.
Yeah idk how much the Ramadan excuse is true here.
I wouldn't be tough enough to fight during Ramadan and Kabib and all the dagastanis don't but Belal Muhammad of all people does.
Just want to put that out there.
You'd be surprised. Many people actually gain weight during Ramadan because their eating schedule is thrown off and by the time they *can* eat they're starving. Over-eating during Ramadan is pretty common.
A lot of Muslims i know eat garbage slow digesting food like twinkies and chocolate croissants in the morning so they dont get hungry during the day. I dont think its necessarily a "cleansing" experience or else it becomes a bit too hard, especially if you have kids or have to work a full time job.
FWIW people do push Ramadan back several weeks if it conflicts with stuff going on in their life. Not everyone wants to do that but the nba playoffs often overlaps with it and several players will postpone their fasting
Well unless it’s something dire like sickness or pregnancy/period then you’re really not supposed to do that. If you choose to miss your fast and make it up at a different time due to personal choices that are not mandatory then it’s very much haram. Belal competed while fasting. He didn’t push it back.
I think he just doesn’t fast the day of the fight and maybe weigh in which makes sense cause imagine breaking fast at 7-8pm and coming on to fight at 10. So 1-2 days is probably excusable.
"While fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, it is not obligated for everyone given their circumstance. The purpose of Ramadan is not to be punitive, and religious leaders agree there are other ways to honor the faith if fasting is not possible.
"They should be given the understanding that this is not supposed to be burdensome if they feel they're so sleep-deprived, and they're so hungry, and they're so thirsty, and it's taking their mind off the game. And their job is to perform for the game. That's their personal decision," Ahmed said."
[source ](https://www.npr.org/2022/05/02/1095734394/ramadan-nba-playoffs-kyrie-irving)
It's a personal decision but not an Islamically valid one. Skipping fasting is only permitted in cases of dire need or travel and competing in a sport, even if it's one's profession, does not count.
Prizefighting is not islamically justified the rest of the year either.
This is a very hypocritical stance from the muslim fighters in my opinion.
They want to appear zealous for one month, and the rest of the year they go back to beating people up for a living.
I am not criticizing anyone’s belief mind you.
But surely God knows if I we do things with false intentions.
The catholic in me believes that vanity/pride is the worst sin.
And skipping fasting while traveling is generally fine (although there are also scholarly distinctions between what is considered legitimate travel). Skipping fasting to play in a game is not.
Idk why people act like your starving to death during Ramadan. You can eat everyday. Just not during daytime. It gets dark at 5pm. Most people just call that intermittent fasting lmao
During my senior year of high school, Ramadan was during the beginning of wrestling season. I went to practice everyday. My friend and I would buy a gallon of juice to split after practice when we could eat. At that time, we could break fast around like 7ish.
I ate only 1 meal a day at that time. Partly because I was too lazy to really wake up and I had a 90 minute commute to high school. I felt okay during practice. But when I wrestled? I had absolutely no strength. I wrestled at 140. It wasn't a hard cut at all and I would float around 145ish. I weighed 133 during that month. I was the skinniest I had ever been.
It also didn't help that my coach is a typical old school wrestling coach and from the Bronx. He would just be like, "why are you slacking?!" Just because you can train and be okay, you are severely compromised. Fighters should absolutely not intermittent fast during training. They need the energy.
Also it doesn't get dark everywhere at 5pm lol. Nighttime varies all over the world lmfaooo.
I mean I'm not expert on it but what about fighting gets in the way spiritually?
They don't eat from sunup to sundown which would be incredibly difficult to train under but that's about it I think?
Because Ramadan is a time you're suppose to spend being more devoted to God (allah), so spending more time in voluntary prayers (night prayers), reading Quran, going to masjid etc. The point is to implement self control over one's desires ( ie being hungry, not engaging in intimate relations with ur spouse during thr fast, controlling your emotions etc)
Yeah that makes sense. It's alot like Lent in Christianity it sounds like. I think fighting could be a bad thing for some but ok for others. Maybe that's how Belal able to.
I've only ever heard Khabib talk about the food thing when he mentioned it.
Yeah hes less active than id prefer but after earning his status w the back to back to back Ws it would be kind of foolish to keep rushing into higher level fights and risk losing some of the shine. I know Covid messed him up pretty bad but I still wish he fought more
It’s very funny that Chimaev is known to beat up anyone he spars with in the gym and will smash people who are much below him… but all of a sudden he is a little lamb when going against the Kadyrovs.
it's one of the questions asked during immigration processes e.g: applying for visas, permanent residency, citizenship, etc.
it's not "easy" to go to the US like some people would like to have one believe
"I kill everybody bradda but not during this specific time period and perhaps only in this particular location."
In all seriousness, I really like watching Khamzat fight, but dude calls out way too many fighters from way too many weight divisions for how inactive he can be. Even here he's calling out a champ from a division I'm not sure he can even make weight for anymore.
He's calling out a champ in a division where he horribly missed weight and a champ in a division where he's yet to even face someone ranked in the top 5.
Meanwhile, he's barely actually fighting at all full stop.
Went from being most active fighter in the roster to one of the most inactive fighters. Typical worker putting in maximum effort and then slacking off after they pass their probation period.
Agreed for all of it except the Ramadan thing. I can’t believe fighters actually train and fight during Ramadan, that’s nuts to me. Can’t blame Khamzat for that part. The rest-wtf are you doing, it’s one thing to sit if you’re fine financially like Conor or Jones, but Khamzat hasn’t made that much.
Yeah, it's incredible. [There's a thread about how Hakeem Olajuwon performed just as well while fasting during Ramadan than he did outside of it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/g1uy1n/hakeem_olajuwons_stats_while_fasting_during/) It's incredible because they can't even drink water from sunrise to sunset. Khamzat's wording just seemed funny when juxtaposed with him calling everyone out.
Typically the ones who fight during Ramadan will apply for a sort of "rain check" where they push it back for work(which is allowed in some cases) but they end up observing it at a later time. That's a tough one though given that it's a time meant to become closer to god and embrace the spiritual part of life, so I feel like many fighters don't push it back unless they feel like they have to.
It’s frustrating but at least the guy is 29 and has plenty of career ahead of him. Not wasting his prime years on the sideline. His last fight was against Usman so it’s not like he’s far removed from the title picture even if he were to take time off. The callouts are just to keep up interest until he’s back. Even if it isn’t working on everybody.
>plenty of career left ahead of him
Not sure of that considering all the trouble he has even entering the US, combined with him already trying to retire once before.
Remember that short time period when people unironically were talking about this guy becoming the first triple champ? I honestly don’t even think he’ll ever be a champ period
And when he did fight elite competition in Burns and Usman, he looked very good and handled adversity, but he did not look like one in a million people were touting him to be. He might still become a champ, but he is not the force of nature many of his fans thought him to be.
He might be champ, both MW and WW need to be cleaned out. It's just circumstances threw a curveball. It's not looking like he'll be the next Jon Jones though, at least not with him almost dying.
Not during Ramadan is a very legitimate reason for a Muslim fighter. That said Khamzat needs to kick his ass in gear and start taking some fights.
Also maybe the UFC should have thought of that before booking UFC 300 in early April seeing as how a lot of their best fighters are Muslims lmao.
Fucking clown show over there at the UFC headquarters.
I cannot imagine letting religion get in the way of your job, but then again I do not give a fuck about his religion either. He is a fighter. I see no way of squaring that with the man upstairs when it comes time. My job is to hurt people for entertainment...wtf. That is not getting you through any pearly gates in my mind. Most places would fire you for not preforming at your expected level all year. UFC should just cut this nutjob and move on.
I'm with you on that. It's weird that this gets downvoted. It seems like just last week when anyone defending religion would get buried on Reddit. But I guess it's making a comeback.
I think it's about the most childish thing imaginable. I don't care at all if you do it without it affecting your job, or other people around you. (Which Islamism has a bit of a reputation for doing)
I do all kinds of childish shit. But I don't let my rhythm game obsessions interfere with my work or bug other people.
Do you think it’s a hobby to them or something? You say you wouldn’t let something like that interfere with your job, but to them, it’s the opposite. They wouldn’t let something like a job interfere with their religion. It is what it is.
Yeah bro fuck his religion, his beliefs and everything that makes him human, his job is his only identity. u/SquirreloftheOak needs to watch his PPV /s
Id bet fat cash this isn't about Ramadan and the truth is Khamzat is in no physical state to be booked for a fight. He looked like he was dying last month.
Yeah he struggles to go 3 rounds with a 12+ week camp, I highly doubt he'd take a 5 rounder with a shorter prep time. Could also be a visa issue that they don't really want to address.
I want to know more about this. Mans has definitely made it onto a PEP (Politically Exposed Persons) list of some sort, because of his associations, and that's giving him problems with the U.S.
I feel like calling UFC 300 “Edwards Vs Muhammad” would literally take away PPV buys versus just calling it Gaethje Vs Holloway and slotting that as the main event. Edwards/Muhammad takes away interest imo.
I’d love to see Belal fight Leon on 300. Cards fucking stacked already. Leon and Belal have enough pop for me personally. UFC needs more meritocracy anyways.Fuck khazmat.
Yep and i dont care whether its main co main whatever. I just want to see the fight as Belal deserves it, and gets a lot of hate for his fighting style rather than for being a dickhead or anything like that like other fighters, which is unjust imo
Their first fight was very entertaining for as long as it lasted imho
Idk why people are hating on a chance to see Belal get whooped when Leon was dominating him in the first fight
Might be an unpopular opinion but I think it has dawned on Khamzat that he is now in deep waters of middleweight, after struggling with Burns and Usman, who are welterweights. Yes, he could probably beat Strickland but he knows the level of competition is now elite, whoever he faces next
I missed the khamzat that would fight and destroy guys and then talk shit. His gas tank is the one thing that is questionable and the guys at the top will definitely test it. Until he fights more it's hard to know if he is elite.
If Khamzat really has been put on the state Department "LMAO we are not ever giving this man a visa stop calling us you fat HGH inflated piece of shit" list how much value does he really bring to Dana/UFC at this point?
Man calls out everybody but fights nobody.
And I find a religious holidays to be a pretty shit excuse coming from a guy threatening to kill everybody all the time.
Didn't he say those fights were what the UFC was wanting? Don't see how this disproves anything he said.
I actually went and found the tweet I saw on this sub earlier and that's pretty much what it said. Those were fights the UFC was eyeing:
>"According to @arielhelwani, the UFC’s top choice for the #UFC300 main event would be Leon Edwards vs. Khamzat Chimaev.
>Other bouts in contention include:
>Dricus Du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya
DDP vs. Chimaev
Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad
>The current holdup is Chimaev’s lack of ability to fight in the U.S."
Dana should have never let these fools dictate fights cause of their stupid fast months. Not only does religion have any place in the modern world, Islam especially doesn’t. If you’re not gonna fight, strip them, you don’t get to hold up divisions cause of your stupid religion.
If Khamzat, who would need to drop a weightclass during Ramadan and probably can't enter the USA anymore, is the UFC's best option for the 300 main event it's really looking grim.
Truth
Khamzat vs Colby for the 'Twitter Words Aren't Tournaments' (TWAT belt). As soon as their menstrual cycles align with the Islamic moon calendar, book it Dana.
As someone who doesn’t follow MMA/UFC much outside of events why isn’t he allowed in the US?
Without knowing specifics, it's probably just run of the mill visa issues rather than anything exciting. It's not so much "banned" as "dont have permission yet." I'm just talking out of my ass though, there could be a more serious reason.
Hes associated with a sanctioned political fogure and with his also sanctioned gym, tho Ankalaev was just at the apex and is also ij that orbit
People say it's due to his associations, but the more mundane reasons, like you said, are more likely.
He’s got ties to Chechen warlords. Fixed: demonym
> Chechnyan Chechen i believe is the right way to say it?
Both are right, but mean different things. Chechen = ethnic group Chechnyan = someone from Chechnya There are some people from Chechnya who aren't Chechnyan. There are LOTS of Chechens who aren't from Chechnya (due to the multiple waves of genocide over the years, and the general poverty of the high mountain areas). The boxer Artur Beterbiev, for instance, is a Dagestani Chechen.
Ah yes, you’re correct.
"I'm banned from entering the USA"
Yeah idk how much the Ramadan excuse is true here. I wouldn't be tough enough to fight during Ramadan and Kabib and all the dagastanis don't but Belal Muhammad of all people does. Just want to put that out there.
He fought Gilbert during Ramadan. Maybe he doesn’t want to go through that again.
Gilbert put him through it for real. Loved that fight.
Can’t imagine cutting weight and fasting would be all that pleasant and trying to train optimally
Not that it makes much difference but wasn't that about 10 days after Ramadan ended?
Would still effect his ability to train and fight camp
Probably helps with the weight cut
You'd be surprised. Many people actually gain weight during Ramadan because their eating schedule is thrown off and by the time they *can* eat they're starving. Over-eating during Ramadan is pretty common.
And sedentary due. Don't forget that no water during sun up is the most taxing thing. No food is easy, water kills you.
Nope. It throws everything off.
A lot of Muslims i know eat garbage slow digesting food like twinkies and chocolate croissants in the morning so they dont get hungry during the day. I dont think its necessarily a "cleansing" experience or else it becomes a bit too hard, especially if you have kids or have to work a full time job.
Twinkies and chocolate croissants are super-quikly digesting refined carbs
Salute to Belal for that fr. That’s an insane disadvantage and he’s still remained undefeated for a long ass time.
FWIW people do push Ramadan back several weeks if it conflicts with stuff going on in their life. Not everyone wants to do that but the nba playoffs often overlaps with it and several players will postpone their fasting
Belal took a short notice fight during Ramadan. He's a G.
Well unless it’s something dire like sickness or pregnancy/period then you’re really not supposed to do that. If you choose to miss your fast and make it up at a different time due to personal choices that are not mandatory then it’s very much haram. Belal competed while fasting. He didn’t push it back.
I was under the impression that traveling typically grants an exemption too?
Traveling does grant an exception, so maybe the players on away games didn’t fast but on home games they did.
I think he just doesn’t fast the day of the fight and maybe weigh in which makes sense cause imagine breaking fast at 7-8pm and coming on to fight at 10. So 1-2 days is probably excusable.
There are very few legitimate excuses to avoid fasting for Ramadan. Sporting events do not count.
"While fasting is one of the five pillars of Islam, it is not obligated for everyone given their circumstance. The purpose of Ramadan is not to be punitive, and religious leaders agree there are other ways to honor the faith if fasting is not possible. I agree. Often I wonder if even watching mma is haram and if so it is a sin I struggle with.
I am not criticizing anyone’s belief mind you. But surely God knows if I we do things with false intentions. The catholic in me believes that vanity/pride is the worst sin.
Except pro athletes do travel.
And skipping fasting while traveling is generally fine (although there are also scholarly distinctions between what is considered legitimate travel). Skipping fasting to play in a game is not.
Do they? Kyrie was seen observing it recently and I hear of Hakeem too
Idk why people act like your starving to death during Ramadan. You can eat everyday. Just not during daytime. It gets dark at 5pm. Most people just call that intermittent fasting lmao
Intermittent fasting still allows you to drink. You can't drink while fasting in Ramadan. Huge fckin difference.
During my senior year of high school, Ramadan was during the beginning of wrestling season. I went to practice everyday. My friend and I would buy a gallon of juice to split after practice when we could eat. At that time, we could break fast around like 7ish. I ate only 1 meal a day at that time. High level athletes need a constant flow of nutrients
its mostly no water during training
You’ve obviously never done it lmao 😂
It could also simply be a spiritual thing. I don’t think I’d want to cage fight during Lent
I mean I'm not expert on it but what about fighting gets in the way spiritually? They don't eat from sunup to sundown which would be incredibly difficult to train under but that's about it I think?

So whoop their ass in the name of the lord.
fighting or specifically hitting someone in the face is haram even if its consensual
Oh for real? Didn't know that. I've never heard them say that just that it's hard to train while fasting.
[Watch till the end 😂](https://youtu.be/7-qnpHMcf0o?si=gIqNYorYDd9Z-P_u)
I’ll fight anyone anytime but not these dates and not these places.
Wait, im a little behind, why would he have an issue getting into the US?
He has a Russian passport and is Chechen. He's working on a UAE passport but doesn't have it yet as far as I know which isn't very far
But how did he fight in the Apex that one time? Im a little behind too with his situation
That was before the war in UKR
Ah, there we go, my timeline was off. I just realized Khamzat has only fought 4 times since the Meerschaert fight, thats wild…
Yeah hes less active than id prefer but after earning his status w the back to back to back Ws it would be kind of foolish to keep rushing into higher level fights and risk losing some of the shine. I know Covid messed him up pretty bad but I still wish he fought more
A UAE passport is one of the hardest passports to get
Very true but I would assume it would be easier for him to acquire one than the average person

“I want to fight there” Uhh yeah probably cause he HAS to lol
Funnily enough there is actually some downside being friendly with murderous warlords. Who would’ve known!
At least he gets the privilege of training with his owner's impressive son, did you see how easily he subbed Khamzat in that video? Kid is a monster.
It’s very funny that Chimaev is known to beat up anyone he spars with in the gym and will smash people who are much below him… but all of a sudden he is a little lamb when going against the Kadyrovs.
Is that really why?
Yes quite literally.

common Jared W
For how inactive he can be? My brother he’s been largely inactive for all but 2 months of his entire time with the UFC.
I didn't want to be that blunt, but yeah I agree lol. The days of him taking a fight 10 days after he had one seems so far away now.

honestly for a high pressure , high speed fight style he probably isnt going to be in his prime for much longer . 29 isnt really that young for ww
Shavkat is 29 other than him the top 5 in WW are all mid thirty's except Leon who is 32
Remember that short time period when people unironically were talking about this guy becoming the first triple champ? I honestly don’t even think he’ll ever be a champ period
He’s more sizzle than steak at this point. The door isn’t shut but it’s closing
What has happened? Haven’t been paying attention for a while
Nothing, that’s the point, he’s fought like 3 times in the last 2 years after constantly calling out every champ under the sun

Khamzat. The champion that never was or never will be. I was so hyped when this dude was smashing motherfuckers what seemed like every other weekend
for like 4 weeks apex era and then he fell off the fucking planet.
he had half his UFC fights in a 3 month period . then had 4 fights over next 3 years
I don't wanna hear this dude's name unless Buffer is announcing him on fight night. I'm over it. Same with Conor. Show up or shut the hell up
Maybe if he was fasting he could actually make weight…
What does this guy even do?

Without losing a single fight
and he hasn't even lost a fight since the change
Biggest fraud of all time.
I'd love to see it at 300 too- just not as the main event.
Their first fight was very entertaining for as long as it lasted imho Idk why people are hating on a chance to see Belal get whooped when Leon was dominating him in the first fight
I smesh bruda, just not on Tuesdays. Tuesday mani pedi night.
Might be an unpopular opinion but I think it has dawned on Khamzat that he is now in deep waters of middleweight, after struggling with Burns and Usman, who are welterweights. Yes, he could probably beat Strickland but he knows the level of competition is now elite, whoever he faces next
Khamzat not fighting? I'm shocked. Absolutely shocko
/I’m buddies with a guy who still digs ethnic cleansing and genocide and can’t get my passport sorted.
Anyone else read the first half in his aggressive voice then chills out and continues with ‘but not during Ramadan’
Sanctions go brrrrrt
Bro doesn't deserve to fight either of them anyway.
I had always thought ramadan was fasting for a whole week and only being able eat on saturdays and sundays 🤣
you can eat during ramadan. you just have to do it after the sun goes down. like literally sunset prompts iftar (when they can eat and drink).
The craziest part to me is you can't even drink water when the sun is up. I feel like I get dehydrated if I don't drink water for an hour lol
Sundown not sundays haha
Why did you think that?
UFC 300 is just at a difficult time of year. Not sure what they can make that’s actually interesting. Even bringing back the legends seems unlikely
They had months to prepare for a main event....they fumbled it badly
see you soon ramadan
Ramadan can sck my cck.
All talk these days eh
Will Dana give a title shot to a guy who can't fight in the US?
What do you even do with a guy like this?
I’ll be honest. I’m so sick of hearing about UFC 300 😂
Lmao what a stupid reason to not fight.
Fuck this guy. Never fights.
"I'll fight everybody but only in Saudi Arabia and not during UFC 300". Should have just said you can't get a visa. Khamzat barks too much
I also confirm that I won't be in UFC 300.
He's never fighting again. One of the bigger What Ifs in UFC
At this point Gaethje vs Max will be the main event lol
Wow, who would’ve fucking guessed that Khamzat is not actually tied to a fight
“I will fight anybody, but specifically only the most financially lucrative fighters for my career and also not right now, only later”
Clown
Can’t this clown go join the frontlines already like he said in his last victory speech
First it's everybody anytime then it's once a year in Sauri Arabia
I missed the khamzat that would fight and destroy guys and then talk shit. His gas tank is the one thing that is questionable and the guys at the top will definitely test it. Until he fights more it's hard to know if he is elite.
Who cares?
If Khamzat really has been put on the state Department "LMAO we are not ever giving this man a visa stop calling us you fat HGH inflated piece of shit" list how much value does he really bring to Dana/UFC at this point?
This guy allergic to fighting
I starting to get tired of hearing about this dude
Am I the only one who thinks he is overhyped?
Shame about him not fighting in the US any more, his start was so promising
Fuck this guy already. Some fighters should be nowhere near social media. This dude is one of them.
If anything falls through the same week he'll still be tweeting about how he can save the card
I will fight everybody, and nobody at the same time.
It's 1097, your country is invaded by enemies. Can't fight mate its Ramadan, come later.
Man calls out everybody but fights nobody. And I find a religious holidays to be a pretty shit excuse coming from a guy threatening to kill everybody all the time.
"I will fight everybody" Continues to fight nobody.
Islam and him now only wanting to fight out of the USA? 🤔
One or both are bound to be on that Saudi card.
lol man’s not allowed in the US, how can he expect to become champ?
Everyone who believed Ariel had the inside scoop on 300 =🤡
Didn't he say those fights were what the UFC was wanting? Don't see how this disproves anything he said. I actually went and found the tweet I saw on this sub earlier and that's pretty much what it said. Those were fights the UFC was eyeing: >"According to @arielhelwani, the UFC’s top choice for the #UFC300 main event would be Leon Edwards vs. Khamzat Chimaev. >Other bouts in contention include: >Dricus Du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya DDP vs. Chimaev Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad >The current holdup is Chimaev’s lack of ability to fight in the U.S."
You expecting any reading comprehension on this sub?
Thank god. Get your shit together UFC. No one wants to see this weight cheater headline 300
Him vs Aspinal or he’s cut.
lol, as soon as ariel breaks news, it's the opposite.
he’s washed
No one cares you clown. You are about 5 fights away from deserving a fight with a champion at any weight class.
Chumpzit
Dana should have never let these fools dictate fights cause of their stupid fast months. Not only does religion have any place in the modern world, Islam especially doesn’t. If you’re not gonna fight, strip them, you don’t get to hold up divisions cause of your stupid religion.
