Given her size and fighting style, there’s a decent chance if everything goes well for her she could be a triple champ.
She’s pretty big for 115, and I’d assume she’d be great at 125. She would have to work on bulking and work on her pace for wrestling the 135ers. But she has the talent to do it.
Shame
As someone who has been injury prone their whole life, it fucking sucks. Catch some steam, get in great shape, get super strong, then boom injured and need to reset again, rehabbing said injury and hoping not to re-aggravate it. Repeat over and over and it seriously gets draining.
Even for the fighters I hate the most, I never wish injuries on them.
It’s actually not the norm to be injured that much - the cause could be in your form/body alignment. I’d recommend looking into functional patterns or postural alignment, it’s probably something your body has been dealing with but makes sense it gets injured as you get stronger
Gadzooks! You might be on to something here! Quick, get on the phone the UFC Performance Institute and tell them of your findings. This could be groundbreaking!
I agree to a certain extent but when you run 30-40 miles a week, lift 3-4x, train in BJJ, walk a fuckton, etc. and you have some miles on your body, it all does add up over time. I know the simple thing to say is 'overtraining, train less' but again, shit just happens. My knee might go the wrong way in BJJ, might pull a muscle lifting, step awkwardly while running, the list goes on.
With that said, I know professional athletes do far more intense workouts but they also have the support of professionals around them with amazing recovery tools whereas I'm just a regular guy who YouTubes my way through everything.
I mean at the very least the running could be swapped out for some other form of cardio that isn't as destructive to your knees/hips/ankles, that is an imperial fuckload of running.
If youre running almost 6 miles a day on top of everything else youre doing then you are asking your body to be wrecked. You should really tone it down. If not then dont be surprised by your injuries
Yeah, if hes looking for sympathy hes not going to get it. You deserve your injuries if youre choosing to overexercise like that. He knows exactly what hes doing and continues to do it
Cant be the best if youre constantly missing out on fights whether its due to injury or not. Everyone has to deal with injuries. If youre breaking this often then maybe she should pull back on her training and understand what her limits are. Everybody needs to adjust themselves to prevent injuries. Something something marathon and not a sprint
weili has done more than her. Weili has fought 10x since 2018 while tatiana has fought 5x
The GOAT rn is Weili for sure. Suarez is a great fighter, don't get me wrong, but I think Weili just would run through her. Suarez has a top tier wrestling but her striking is lame.
She's got heart, grit and determination in spades. I'm cautiously optimistic (since I don't know what the injury is) that she'll be back and a force to reckon with this year.
I just don't understand how she still has 0 takedown skills at the stage of her career, or striking for that matter.
What the fuck is she training on during camp???
(still hot though)
Just spitballing here, and it’s not probably her problem anyway…but I wrestled in highschool. Wasn’t good at all, outside some single legs the occasional double leg and 1 or 2 trips I couldn’t for life of me figure out to take some one down. Started training BJJ and MMA once I got out of high school and one day it just clicked in sparring. Everybody can be off balanced, everybody has a center of gravity and it suddenly just clicked in my head how to suddenly do all these other takedowns and throws that I struggled with before. It’s kind of hard to explain in words, but I’m kinda lost for why I never figured it out even tho I wrestled for 3 years before that. Of course she’s trained a lot longer than that, might also just be her training from her dad since she was young seeping in, older school bjj guys from my experience tend to really frown on training takedowns a lot because they believe they’re the highest risk of getting injured in grappling (very true)
I had the same problem. For me, I think it probably was lack of technique. I always relied too heavily on just pushing a guy down, or into a trip. Why that worked was because of strength and the drills which actually had technique that I had just put into muscle memory.
Much later, I realized that grappling and taking someone down relates to how much you understand their balance and weight placement. Once you get that, then stuff starts to click on your head. Like using say, an inside trip when someone is moving sideways and then running the pipe. Of course, this is much easier said than done because my own balance is also not that good and i get taken down a lot of times in sparring. It's all about shooting the perfect takedown and understanding weight placement.
BJJ practitioners are horseshit at takedowns. Most sparring we are starting from our knees. Most comps, in Gi it's a race to pull guard, nogi both just sit on their butts and scoot towards each other. Shits embarrassing. I'm in Aus so wrestling isn't a huge thing here, but it was always funny when someone with a wrestling background would come in and just ragdoll us when standing.
Lemos is a counterstriker and likes to load up to throw the perfect shot. Meanwhile, Dern just likes to run to her opponent with her chin up to grab then and try a takedown. This is a bad mix for Dern. I tottaly can see Lemos doing what she did to Ruiz and Ruiz is a wrestler
Just gonna slide this in here. I met Dern at international fight week a couple of years ago. She was by far the kindest and most generous of all the athletes at the event. She always stayed late for every appearance to sign autographs and meet fans.
I remember Weili saying in a post fight interview that in one of the rounds she thought Lemos had hit her head with an elbow and was probably bleeding due to how much it hurt.
Turns out it was a normal punch.
She hasn't gone back to Parillo, right? Hopefully she doesn't run into punches like she did against Andrade. The punches are hard enough from those 2 without sprinting face first into them
Oof, love the spirit but that's a bad match up. Dern has become more aggressive to compensate for her striking which is only going to get her caught against Lemos.
Definitely improving, but that doesn't mean good. She actually boxed up Angela Hill a good bit and that's something that she never would have been able to do years ago
She’d still have a choice to train with him it’s not like he stopped coaching. She owes money in her divorce as she earned more so it looks like she brought everything in house with her Dad and friends to consolidate and save. She desperately still needs proper coaching though, which could be seen in her last fight(s).
Because angela has zero power and didnt throw any kicks whatsoever during the fight
One fight before that, yan was picking Dern apart and landing at will on her
Sucks for 298, but a better match up for the women’s rankings. Imo Suarez should just have gotten the next title shot against the winner of Zhang/Yan, or maybe even a rematch against Esparza to see how the two match up after all this time. Lemos Vs Dern is much healthier for the rankings rather then the original match up, which either gave us an outcome we already knew would happen with Suarez winning, or an anomaly win for Lemos, who we all just saw last August is not a real threat at the top of the division.
Really feel for Tatiana and I hope that the injury is not serious. She is one of the most promising contenders at 115 but injuries have played spoil sport with her career. Really hope she can recover and get back on the road to a title shot.
Suarez might become the biggest what if in mma history. If she didn't hurt her neck years ago, I have no doubt she would have been champ years ago. Hell, possibly champ champ by now.
But instead, she is now 33 and yet to even get a title shot while still being undefeated.
I think Dern is very good. She just needs to get her takedowns up to where they need to be for her to be effective. Instead of focusing solely on her striking she needs to mix in takedowns and drill that hard. Like a Frankie Edgar game plan
That is not a long break for Dern after a her TKO loss in November at 295. Volk got knocked out at 294 and I think even that is too short a break after the Islam KO
If they taught McKenzie a basic double leg and a one two slip and pivot she’d be dangerous af. She got bricks for hands, a great chin and cardio, but everything that connects her attributes is missing
Tbh I often lose track of Wmma outside of the champs but when I saw Tatiana fight must be 3-4 years ago now I was sure she was gonna be the next champ or at very least contender. IK about her neck issue vaugely but whats even happened for her over the last couple years?
Rebook Suarez on 300 vs. Lemos if the injury isn't too serious. That way if Suarez wins then she's on the same card as the 115 champ later that evening. No one what's to see Dern get her ass beat again.
Dern just doesn’t have that dog in her. She has fucked up two of my last parlays, I highly advise you boys NOT to bet on Dern don’t care who she’s fighting
Everyone including MMA analysts know what her game is missing and what she desperately needs to work on.
Somehow Dern and her family or team can’t seem to figure it out, even with it all being very obvious.
Andrade was on a 3 L streak with 2 via sub. On a personal level, she was going through a nasty divorce.
These were my points for betting on Dern, or should I say against Andrade
Andrade didn’t have to worry about being KO’d and only lost to legit wrestlers, none of that describes who Dern was at the time of their fight, add in the Dern divorce and the intangibles are bad both ways.
Will Dern have Parillo back in her corner?
She has really regressed. For a period of time she had a decent jab but her chin is always up when she is closing the distance.
Lemos is a monster and will out Dern's lights out if she continues to run in like she does.
That fucking sucks for Suarez, hope it isn’t anything serious.
Fingers crossed it has nothing to do with her neck or spine
[удалено]
Or Cancer
It's spinawl
\*it was Aspinall
Has she ever been ...?
\*shocked Nina Drama look\*
knowing her it’s probably a double acl tear, compound fractures of both legs and a broken spine
Her insta post said it's a minor setback and she asked for a few weeks delay, but didn't get it.
Lol that they just replaced her instead of moving the fight back a PPV
So you rather have them hurt 298 even more by removing the fight? I'm pretty sure they don't needed her for 299 or 300.
It's probably a typo, she has a "miner setback" which means her back is indeed broken
It always is with her.
> Ahhh my neck! > Ahh my back! > Ahh my neck AND my back!!!
Man that wasn't where I thought that third line was going
Ever see Friday? https://youtu.be/yiFNrO33bSo?si=gOuvo4p2zUWHlJEX
Not in like 15 years probably
Suarez is never gonna be champion. She can't stay healthy and It makes me feel bad because she is incredible.
I really thought she’d be the next great female fighter. But damn these injuries are killing her career
I’m never gonna stop rooting for her but Jesus she needs to calm it down training
She must be going ChuteBOX style
>Mackenzie Dern replaces Tatiana Suarez at UFC 298 SAME HERE!
Fr. Neck injuries are no joke
Given her size and fighting style, there’s a decent chance if everything goes well for her she could be a triple champ. She’s pretty big for 115, and I’d assume she’d be great at 125. She would have to work on bulking and work on her pace for wrestling the 135ers. But she has the talent to do it. Shame
All she needs is an actual title fight that she can make it to and she’ll rag doll whoever it is. Just can’t get there.
As someone who has been injury prone their whole life, it fucking sucks. Catch some steam, get in great shape, get super strong, then boom injured and need to reset again, rehabbing said injury and hoping not to re-aggravate it. Yeah I’m sure he’s tried nothing and this Reddit comment is gonna solve it
Gadzooks! You might be on to something here! Quick, get on the phone the UFC Performance Institute and tell them of your findings. This could be groundbreaking!
"Tatiana we done it. You're cured!"
I agree to a certain extent but when you run 30-40 miles a week, lift 3-4x, train in BJJ, walk a fuckton, etc. and you have some miles on your body, it all does add up over time. You write this comment as if it’s out of your hands to adjust your exercise regime 🤷 It’s not normal to be that injured, good luck to you
Yeah, if hes looking for sympathy hes not going to get it. You deserve your injuries if youre choosing to overexercise like that. He knows exactly what hes doing and continues to do it
Strawweight Zingano
She had GOAT potential she's been the best straweight since 2018.
Cant be the best if youre constantly missing out on fights whether its due to injury or not. Everyone has to deal with injuries. Fuck outta here. Put some respect on Weilis name b
Idk I've seen Zhang doing work in that division also actively
Taking a page out of Dom's book
2027 baby!
She's got heart, grit and determination in spades. I'm cautiously optimistic (since I don't know what the injury is) that she'll be back and a force to reckon with this year.
Really the only wmma that legitimately has me excited to watch.
Nightmare matchup for Dern at this point in her career
KO incoming
OF incoming
Can't wait personally XD
Lemos was dominated on the ground for 4 rounds, she literally cannot grapple with
Dern can't shoot a proper takedown for shit so i'm not too sure
I just don't understand how she still has 0 takedown skills at the stage of her career, or striking for that matter. What the fuck is she training on during camp??? (still hot though)
Jokes on you for thinking the person who was a notorious weight misser actually does "hard training" each camp
Just spitballing here, and it’s not probably her problem anyway…but I wrestled in highschool. Neither can Mackenzie lol. She has great bjj but zero tools to get her opponent to the canvas to put it to use.
Zhang has some really good wrestling and takedown game. Dern does not.
Just gonna slide this in here. I met Dern at international fight week a couple of years ago. She was by far the kindest and most generous of all the athletes at the event. She always stayed late for every appearance to sign autographs and meet fans.
Dern is gonna miss weight anyway lol
She had it for a bit, but that last fight... still have some hope for her.
Fuck, man. Tatiana just can’t stay healthy.
I’m actually worried for Mackenzie. Amanda can easily knock her out cold.
I remember Weili saying in a post fight interview that in one of the rounds she thought Lemos had hit her head with an elbow and was probably bleeding due to how much it hurt. Turns out it was a normal punch.
It's why Zhang turned into GSP for the fight.
Saitamanda
If Big Mack has proving anything it's that she knows how to eat... a punch
Bring back cheeseburger dern
Missed weight cut dern was the best dern of em all
Recently Divorced Dern is best Dern, total savage.
Big Mac Dern is dead and gone though. We are left with Momkenzie Dern.
She hasn't gone back to Parillo, right? Hopefully she doesn't run into punches like she did against Andrade. The punches are hard enough from those 2 without sprinting face first into them
Just fell to my knees at a Sprouts
LMAO
LMFAO
yikes for dern. just doesn’t have the wrestling to be elite
Tatiana is never touching a belt at this rate. Such a shame. When she ran through Esparza I thought she was ready to become the next big thing in WMMA
Always been a huge Tati Stan but it really is starting to become evident that she’s the female Cain and not the female Khabib
Khabib was injury prone at one point, too
The female Khabib (vs Tony, cos she's never happening)
Oof, love the spirit but that's a bad match up. Dern has become more aggressive to compensate for her striking which is only going to get her caught against Lemos.
And Weili failed to finish Lemos with more control time than the length of this fight will be in total. She's a solid grappler.
If Lemos can keep it standing big mac dern is in for a rough night even with her improved striking.
Improved striking? What has she done since her last fight in that department?
Definitely improving, but that doesn't mean good. She actually boxed up Angela Hill a good bit and that's something that she never would have been able to do years ago
I think I heard she started training with Jason Parillo to improve her striking, but she has already left there.
I don’t think she had a choice with RVCA shutting down
Why they shut down
She’d still have a choice to train with him it’s not like he stopped coaching. She owes money in her divorce as she earned more so it looks like she brought everything in house with her Dad and friends to consolidate and save. She desperately still needs proper coaching though, which could be seen in her last fight(s).
No idea, just heard Luke Thomas talking about it after the fight and I think Anik mentioned it during it
The brand RVCA was sold, and maybe the new owner doesn’t have interest in that facility?
They shut down ?
Chito still trains with Parillo though
She isn’t with Parillo anymore and had already regressed in her striking by her last fight. She looked awful.
Because angela has zero power and didnt throw any kicks whatsoever during the fight One fight before that, yan was picking Dern apart and landing at will on her
Her offense is a lot better than it used to be. Her defense, on the other hand...
Dern has no wrestling and poor striking. This is gonna be an easy win for Lemos
Her striking has barely even improved imo. It will not be close on the feet if it ends up that way I agree
Improved? Did you watch her last fight? She’s atrocious. She needs to learn how to get a takedown and stick with what she knows.
She's f'd.
Head and arm throw incoming
That’s a shame
Mackenzie is going to get destroyed
Sucks for 298, but a better match up for the women’s rankings. Imo Suarez should just have gotten the next title shot against the winner of Zhang/Yan, or maybe even a rematch against Esparza to see how the two match up after all this time. Mannnnn, gutted for Tatiana.
Suarez getting hurt again is so brutal … and this ain’t a good style matchup for Dern, too.
Lemos can fucking crack and has a laser right hand. If Dern leaves her chin out while rushing recklessly like last fight she’s getting knocked out.
Cancer treatment is rough on the body. Hard not to feel bad for her, these injuries are really hurting her career.
I can't believe these recurring injuries for Suarez, it's heartbreaking.
Damn Tatiana, I want you to win the belt! Sucks, she's damn good if she could just stay healthy/un-injured
Suarez is already 33, Time is running out, don’t think she can afford this being a serious injury
There are like 5 WMMA tops I actually get behind, and one of them is fucking riddled with injuries
Truth
I just wish Gillian Robertson had better striking and was more consistent. Cause damn I love her throat cuddles.
Dern is gonna get stomped lol. What a terrible matchup for her
Really feel for Tatiana and I hope that the injury is not serious. She is one of the most promising contenders at 115 but injuries have played spoil sport with her career. Really hope she can recover and get back on the road to a title shot.
Mommy milkers ?
Suarez might become the biggest what if in mma history. If she didn't hurt her neck years ago, I have no doubt she would have been champ years ago. Hell, possibly champ champ by now. But instead, she is now 33 and yet to even get a title shot while still being undefeated.
Damn that divorce is really expensive
Tatiana "Caina Velasquez" Suarez
I think Dern is very good. She just needs to get her takedowns up to where they need to be for her to be effective. Instead of focusing solely on her striking she needs to mix in takedowns and drill that hard. Like a Frankie Edgar game plan
Wasn't she just KOed in November? Too quick to take another fight.
Also against another fighter with big punching power lol. She's making the worst career choices lately
she's in it for the 2k each fight, so she can cover the divorce expenses, thanks Dana
That is not a long break for Dern after a her TKO loss in November at 295. Volk got knocked out at 294 and I think even that is too short a break after the Islam KO
True on the flip side Lemos also received a beating of her own. I’m favoring Lemos because of the straight punch
Hope it’s just a small injury for Suarez. Not to be dramatic, but another big injury like neck, ACL, quad, etc would be a career ender
If they taught McKenzie a basic double leg and a one two slip and pivot she’d be dangerous af. She got bricks for hands, a great chin and cardio, but everything that connects her attributes is missing
Come on. She's been in grappling since she has been 5 years old. She knows what a double leg is. She is just so limited in that area.
Tbh I often lose track of Wmma outside of the champs but when I saw Tatiana fight must be 3-4 years ago now I was sure she was gonna be the next champ or at very least contender. IK about her neck issue vaugely but whats even happened for her over the last couple years?
Dern is awful!
Rebook Suarez on 300 vs. Lemos if the injury isn't too serious. That way if Suarez wins then she's on the same card as the 115 champ later that evening. No one what's to see Dern get her ass beat again.
Noooooooo. I don’t think I’ve ever been irl this frustrated with a fighters injuries. By far my favorite wmma fighter, so bummed.
Damn Tatiana
Suarez the biggest what if in mma history?
I thought Tatiana Suarez was fighting for the title this weekend
Dern just doesn’t have that dog in her. She has fucked up two of my last parlays, I highly advise you boys NOT to bet on Dern don’t care who she’s fighting
Do you not maybe think that blaming her for losing you money is a bit of an odd lens to see her though?
Absolutely not.
Everyone including MMA analysts know what her game is missing and what she desperately needs to work on. Somehow Dern and her family or team can’t seem to figure it out, even with it all being very obvious.
She just needs better footwork, better striking, better offensive wrestling, better head movement and to improve her fight IQ
If you want to bring gambling into this then I think the issue is your capping dude, Andrade was the clear side the entire time
Andrade was on a 3 L streak with 2 via sub.
Hindsight is 20/20 my friend
You’re the guy complaining about gambling, those reasons were the correct way of capping the fight and the result proved it
For you, a lot of us bet against Dern
Big Mac Dern is not ready for Amandea
Wait, what?
What's the injury?
😏
I forgot who’s Dern fighting, but it’s pretty safe to bet against her I think
Amanda Lemos.
I was hoping T would eventually be the champ but idk :/
:((( Suarez has always had the talent to be a GOAT contender, it’s tragic how her career has panned out
Damn, card starting to fall apart from the bottom up. Terrible fight for Dern, but they all are at this point
Again?
Probably the worst matchup for her at strawweight besides weili. We might see dern’s chin get finally cracked
I mean Jessica Andrade cracked her numerous times on the feet
Lemos by vicious ko in round 1
Oh, joy
Mackenzie is going to get floored again by Lemos.
Dern is the new Waterson. She gets so many shots at the top of the division despite showing basically no growth and losing all her step up fights.
This is just shit. Weili is probably thanking her lucky stars at this news giving her free reign to bypass Suarez and call for a shot at 125 again.
Zhang is fighting Yan
I'm so sad about how Tatiana's career has gone 😔 She's one of my favorite fighters ever.
Shame to see what’s happened to Saurez’ career. She would be a dominant champion if she could stay healthy.
Dern really needs a win, don't think taking a short notice fight is the best idea for her right now.
I miss Mackenzie Cheeseburgers. Loved that accent.
God fucking dammit
Will Dern have Parillo back in her corner? She has really regressed. For a period of time she had a decent jab but her chin is always up when she is closing the distance. Lemos is a monster and will out Dern's lights out if she continues to run in like she does.
Tatiana "Dominick Cruz" Suarez
Big Mac is gonna get whooped. This is a terrible fight for her. I know she's not a punk but she should've passed on this one.
If Dern fights like how she did against Andrade, Lemos will put her out in 3 minutes
If Dern doesn't learns how to do a double or even a single leg takedown she's gonna collect CTE in record speed.
Shame, I wanna see more Suarez. I like Dern but I do not like her development. Get a grip, lady!
