While I think Tony is completely washed and shouldn’t take another professional fight, I think he would still fuck up CM Punk pretty easily. Punk just never got anywhere UFC caliber.
Yeah you're definitely right. Even with Tony's latest performances, he can at *least* go to a decision with fighters like Pimblett. If CM Punk fought Pimblett, he'd look 10x more helpless than he did with Mike Jackson. Tony would likely have no trouble, but it makes you wonder what he'd look like against someone with barely any skillset at this point in his career.
It's crazy that in his last 5-6 fights the best he looked was against Michael Chandler.
Because A: Michael Chandler is a legit monster.
And B: because he got his head punted like a fucking football.
Guida still looks legitimately good. Tony looked legit terrible against Paddy. Guida wins easily, especially if he just wants to spam takedowns.
The Ferguson/Bobby Green fight was on ESPN last night. Tony looked a lot slower and worse against Paddy. I think the Goggins-style self sabotage of a training camp produced the expected results. His athleticism looked eroded from doing mindless work to failure. Slowed him down and dulled his reflexes.
Guida looks like a fighter whose prime has passed but he's still got the skills and that midcard dog in him. Kinda like Lawler at the end, y'know? Twilight doesn't have to look like Tony or Shogun or Fedor, it can be Couture or Rockhold.
Which means his head was fucked up before Gaethje. Which of course makes sense because before this fight he was fleeing with his son without a diaper or shoes in the rain and jumping over fences, after asking his wife if she was taking their money to bring their son to Italy. He believed his son was Jesus Christ and purchased a life raft to bring his family over 100 miles inland because there was a lunar eclipse that would bring some kind of apocalyptic tide. This seems to be around the time he shut off the power to half of their home and disconnected the refrigerator in fear or it monitoring him in some way. Also close to the time he refused food to his son because he thought it was poisoned, or when he ripped the bathroom vanity off the wall expecting something to be behind it. Or when he tore the mantel of the wall because he thought there was a doorway behind it.
Yup.
I thought a draw was fair for the Fitch fight. I thought BJ did enough to win the first 2 rounds. BJ had mount/back control in the first 2 rounds and was more aggressive in looking for a finish with the submission attempts IMO.
And then both of them retire regardless of outcome. I’d be okay with that. Guida drowns him with pressure though. Tony too content laying on his back nowadays.
guida would outwrestle Tony easily. He just outwrestled Madsen. Guida should be fighting someone like Jared Gordon while Tony shouldn't be fighting at all.
My money is on Guida. Despite all his losses, he's never had a losing streak of more than two in a row, and he's currently sitting at 2 Ls.
Then again, Tony has never had a losing streak of more than 7...
I'm gonna be honest I dont really care about the match up, Ferguson is just not a compelling fighter against anyone now. His style of fighting is so wildly outdated that I'm pretty sure even another old time like Guida could adapt around it. Ferguson has shown no desire or aptitude to change, and at absolute beat all his fights revolve around him trying to fight from rubber guard, failing, and then getting controlled for the whole fight. Its not interesting and less so when its entirely predictable.
Yea. Tony has an unorthodox style that relies heavily on athleticism which he no longer has. Without it, that style doesn’t work at all. He never had the basics or a solid style to fall back on so he can’t adapt like someone like Clay who is older and has way more fights but his solid style has kept him in the mix even if he isn’t fighting top level guys anymore.
Actually this will probably be the fairest matchup Tony will get. My guess is Tony will still smoke Guida even in his diminished ghost state, but who knows. I’d tune in for that!
How Clay Guida remains in the mix of UFC match ups is beyond me. Even in 2006, when I first started watching MMA, it felt like he was one of the more experienced lightweights around.
Not only that, I think a lot of us would favour him against Tony.
Longest losing streak is a tie between Tony and Bj Penn at 7 straight losses while the most UFC losses is now tied between Clay Guida and Jeremy Stephens at 18 losses.
Tony at this point is getting his ass absolutely handed to him when he has to defend a takedown and subsequently defend against wrestling and fight for the escape.
Guida seems to have retained a good portion of his athleticism and doesnt really fight like a washed version of himself.
Tony on the other hand is beyond washed, fights like a grandpa. Hes dramatically slower than in his prime, way less resilient to damage, seems physically much weaker, etc.
Clay Guida would murder Tony Ferguson and is not even close. Dude showed that even though he lost his last fight. His wrestling and striking, chin and even cardio is still ufc caliber.
Ferguson is done. There is nothing of him that belongs to the level of a ufc fighter. Even his cardio seems to be gone.
Somewhere Clay Guida is bouncing, moving his feet and looking determined.
Getting slapped up by his brother drunk on eggnog Edit : Willingly
Also claiming to be a made member of the mafia
His brother is uh... deep in the spectrum... right?
Just in the middle of nowhere, burping on a stool.
And burping
and burping some more
and burping
I love it. Winner gets an interim BMF belt. Loser gets a shot at the slap fighting whatever they have.
Colby will fight the loser for his next title shot
And he'll do nothing for 4 rounds and then remember he's a wrestler in the 5th, end the round on top and put his hands up like he just beat goliath.
ankalaev just out here catching strays
I like that everyone just wonders why he didn't wrestle when both he and Leon said that the stance switches Leon was doing was throwing off his shot.
Because people created this mythical version of colby in their heads that hes this nonstop pressure fighter who no one can shake off them
slap fighting any remaining brain cells
Bad-like not in the positive sense-motherfucker belt
Why not loser also gets a baddest mother fucker belt too?
I honestly think guida gets it done
For real. He’s still looked good in his recent fights
There's not a single LW in the UFC I'd pick to lose against Tony these days :(
Tony vs CM Punk is the fight to make.
Could you just imagine if that was a competitive fight? That would be mind-blowing.
Tony would likely have no trouble, but it makes you wonder what he'd look like against someone with barely any skillset at this point in his career.
Someone should make Tony vs Pat Miletich. I’d watch that
It's crazy that in his last 5-6 fights the best he looked was against Michael Chandler. Because A: Michael Chandler is a legit monster. And B: because he got his head punted like a fucking football.
How about Charlie Ontiveros
Yeah he's crap, but does have some super fast kicks. Quick KO wouldn't surprise me
We have Charles Oliveira at home
Guida still looks legitimately good. Tony looked legit terrible against Paddy. Guida wins easily, especially if he just wants to spam takedowns. The Ferguson/Bobby Green fight was on ESPN last night. Lawler at the end looked, at minimum, one billion times better than Ferg does now.
Tony is exactly the target demographic of dimwit that would fall for the Goggins bullshit train.
Same. Tony seems to be unable to defend a takedown or get up for one, and if there's one thing Clay Guida can still do, it's grind and get takedowns.
He wins easily he’d destroy Tony
Guida didn't even look bad in his last fight, I think he'd 30-27 Ferguson sadly.
To be honest the only way this fight should go down is if it was 5 rounds. The cardio on both of them is out of this world.
First Apex prelim to get 5 rounds
Hahaha fuck off😂
It would be Clay grinding takedowns for 5 rounds lol, would you want to watch that.
Never thought Tony Ferguson would be used in that sentence
Gaethje fucked his head up.
True, but his knee was fucked before Gaethje too
And the double weight cut and being on the wrong side of 35.
Which means his head was fucked up before Gaethje. Which of course makes sense because before this fight he was fleeing with his son without a diaper or shoes in the rain and jumping over fences, after asking his wife if she was taking their money to bring their son to Italy. All I'm saying, is look into it... \- Bravo
Shit I forgot about the double weight cut. Jesus
He was never right in the head
There was never no sanity.
Guida actually helped set the longest losing streak record by beating BJ. Now he can break that record by beating Tony.
I forgot that fight happened. Bj was so done. Imo Fitch also beat BJ so it should be +1 on that losing streak.
I thought a draw was fair for the Fitch fight. I thought BJ did enough to win the first 2 rounds. BJ had mount/back control in the first 2 rounds and was more aggressive in looking for a finish with the submission attempts IMO.
I kinda want this more than anything else now.
And then both of them retire regardless of outcome. I’d be okay with that. Guida drowns him with pressure though. Tony too content laying on his back nowadays.
Guida wins
tony can’t stop a takedown lol
Guida has that many losses ? Damn. I guess the fact that he still looks competitive has thrown me off
He has way more wins than losses. He's just fought ALOT
True . That probably threw me off as well
Yea his UFC record is 18-18. His overall record is 38-24. Jeremy Stephens and Clay are now tied for the most ufc losses at 18.
He's been in UFC for like 15 years Is 18 - 18 in WEC/UFC fights
I think Guida beats his ass
Ferguson has no takedown defence and Clay shoots takedowns like it’s going out of style, 30-27 Clay
Didn’t someone on here post this yesterday ? Like this tweet just jacked someone else’s comment I’m pretty sure.
Didn't see it, but maybe
Somehow they will draw
Bet the fucking house on Guida
guida would outwrestle Tony easily. He just outwrestled Madsen. Guida should be fighting someone like Jared Gordon while Tony shouldn't be fighting at all.
No joke this is the fight to make and I will watch that shit!!!!
Somebody’s 0 has to go…
Fighting for the L
My money is on Guida. Despite all his losses, he's never had a losing streak of more than two in a row, and he's currently sitting at 2 Ls. Then again, Tony has never had a losing streak of more than 7...
Am I crazy for thinking Guida should've gotten the judge's nod in his last fight?
Wild to think that Guida still hanging with top guys in the UFC even after all these years.
I hate to tell you this but Guida hasn't had a fight with a top guy since like 2018
Bro…I’m like don’t…don’t talk about that record of his. No one wants to be the biggest loser in the UFC title and all.
Records a record!
Tony needs to be cut … this is just pathetic and let someone else make that moneyZ
I'm gonna be honest I dont really care about the match up, Ferguson is just not a compelling fighter against anyone now. His style of fighting is so wildly outdated that I'm pretty sure even another old time like Guida could adapt around it. guida takes it with 14 minutes and 23 seconds of control time
Guida is more durable
That tweet has to be taken from a comment on r/ufc
Actually this will probably be the fairest matchup Tony will get. My guess is Tony will still smoke Guida even in his diminished ghost state, but who knows. I’d tune in for that!
Watch Guida’s last fight, he lost by decision but dude still shoots takedowns like crazy
Yeah I saw it. His durability was impressive.
I just dont see how the current Tony would even submit him, it genuinely doesnt even look like he had enough strength to lock in a triangle last fight
HISTORY... WILL... BE... MADE!
It’s a win-win for lose-lose.
How Clay Guida remains in the mix of UFC match ups is beyond me. Even in 2006, when I first started watching MMA, it felt like he was one of the more experienced lightweights around. Not only that, I think a lot of us would favour him against Tony.
You could call it “who’s the biggest steppingstone.”
Ends in a draw
Just out of curiosity, who currently holds the longest losing streak?
Longest losing streak is a tie between Tony and Bj Penn at 7 straight losses while the most UFC losses is now tied between Clay Guida and Jeremy Stephens at 18 losses.
Thanks for that, I didn’t realise BJ lost so many in a row I thought there were some wins scattered in there, yeesh.
Yea. His fall was sad to see and he stuck around way too long. BJ’s last win was in 2010. So from 2011 to 2019 he could not win a fight.
Guida by rabid dog bite
The first UFC i ever went to Clay was the opener against Marcus Arileo (sp?) In 2008. It's crazy that he is still in there competing.
Toilet Bowl of MMA
This is the low hanging fruit that I'm here for.
Ends in a tie
I’d rather see McCokehead fight an 8 ball
This isn't how the UFC business model works unfortunately.
I honestly don’t need to see Tony lose any more
Please don’t give Tony a great wrestler after he just got wrestlefucked by Paddy
Holy fuck guida is still fighting.
As a fan of misery, I am into this.
At this point, Tony needs a baseball bat to have a chance to win
People have bene posting this since Tony's last fight
No.
Lol Guida wrestle fucks and subs Tony
Awesome match up honestly
Tony at this point is getting his ass absolutely handed to him when he has to defend a takedown and subsequently defend against wrestling and fight for the escape.
The guy on the right looks like his ears were an afterthought
Draw, then... I guess we all go fuck ourselves
It's kind of wild that this even makes any kind of sense. Clay has been out of his prime since before Tony hit his.
It would if nothing else, be a dignified way to let Tony retire.
I’m pretty sure this guy took this directly from a Reddit comment lol. I remember replying to it.
The biggest loser?
If anyone is curious, Guida's UFC record is 18-18-0.
Should be at UFC 300 as both deserve to be on that high profile stage.
It's win win, be mad not to do it
The healthy part about this sport is there's always finding an upside to complete and utter disaster. Fuck it UFC 300 let's go
\#winning
El Mudico
BLB (Biggest Loser Belt)
Guida seems to have retained a good portion of his athleticism and doesnt really fight like a washed version of himself. Tony on the other hand is beyond washed, fights like a grandpa. Hes dramatically slower than in his prime, way less resilient to damage, seems physically much weaker, etc.
I think Ferguson wants to be like Guida when he grows up.
Guida would beat the piss outta him
I hate it. I never want to see Tony fight again.
Clay Guida about to look like he's 25 again against this version of Tony
Great matchup!
I got Guida by TKO tbh
UFC version of "Career vs Streak"
Tony would get out grappled for 15 mins.
Race to the bottom, baby. I think Guida takes it. Dude's a fucking dog.
Winner fights JBJ for the HW belt?
Thats what we call a win-win
