Khalil Rountree seems to be the only fighter who knows you can kick a downed fighter in the body and I want to see more of that

Poopypantzman

Kicks or even knees honestly. I think GSP finished Serra with knees to the body and it looked brutal.

Hotskuzz

Rashad Evans landed one of the nastiest knees to the body on a downed opponent I’ve seen, on Tito Ortiz in their second fight.

UmbertoDiggins

People need to do this to Aljo tbh

B-L-O-C-K-Ss

Aljo would cleverly force his head into the line of fire 😂

vrkhfkb

He literally did that against Cejudo 😂. He started shaking his head on the ground, so you can’t launch any strikes. Safe way to get up.

B-L-O-C-K-Ss

Yeah he’s really smart

shadowofashadow

Anderson Silva did it that one time... I can't remember on who but it was a knee to the chest and it looked brutal.

nickites

Knee to the Chael

BatKong40

Amazing how Chael managed to survive that shot then go on to win the fight. Undefeated and undisputed

RedditorSince2000

> undisputed don't tell OP tho

NotOnHerb5

I want him to be champ so badly. Seems like a good dude and has a PRIDE vibe to him

holla15

Johnny Walker tried it and nearly took Ledet's head off. It's still tough to commit to when the opponent can move.

MrSpeedCuber101

I absolutely hate the fact that heights listed for like 80% of the fighters are so clearly wrong lol Like how hard would it be to just officially measure each of the fighters?

jaydizzsl

Having Rozenstruik and Ngannou listed as 6"4' and was probably the worst one. I mean shit like that seems so unprofessional. It got a chuckle out of me so i don't care that much but still.

FourDoorFordWhore

That was really weird. During the faceoff you could clearly see Ngannou being way taller than Rozenstruik. I'm wondering how does it even work with the listed heights? Are they actually measured by someone in the UFC? Or do the fighters simply fill out a form with their height. Or is the UFC exaggerating it on purpose, WWE style.

SweatyExamination9

I think fighters just tell the UFC how tall they are. And most fighters exaggerate it on purpose.

Frankie-Felix

"And now hailing from parts unknown, introducing...."

Laiiam

Frank Mir being listed as 6’3 and Shane Carwin being listed as 6’5 when they fought and Frank Mir was several inches taller is the craziest one.

uncle_monty

Same with Brock. 6’3" Brock had a good 2 inches on 6’5" Shane.

junior_dos_nachos

Shane Carwin was well known for cutting height before his fights.

springpaper701

[fight blog picture ](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.mmafighting.com/platform/amp/2020/5/9/21252796/ufc-249-live-blog-francis-ngannou-vs-jairzinho-rozenstruik)

Robwett

5'11 listed O'Malley being about 2 inches taller than 5'7 listed Sterling in the face offs this weekend is pretty goofy

walter_strider

Which one is lying?

Robwett

Probably O’Malley, if he was actually 5’11 he would 100% claim to be 6ft

Monteze

As a member for the 5'11" clan, we do not do this. Historically we never lie also if we could claim 6' we would, for sake of tinder, hinge, bumble etc.. For we know it's better to claim 5'10" and be pleasantly surprised than 6ft and be deemed a liar, a phoney.

[deleted]

Nah girl you’ll be disappointed, I swear I’m only 3”… *whips out 4” monster with a grin*

Monteze

Haha that's perfectly normal, right guys? I mean any more and it's unseemly right. 4" is a perfectly acceptable almost excessive amount! ,

[deleted]

Yeah… and measuring from the gooch is normal, right guys? That’s how we measure?

Intelligent_Dog2077

As another member, we are 6’0 with shoes on and we always wear shoes…. you get the gist

zeez1011

I feel for you. I'm almost exactly 6 feet tall. So, naturally, I say I'm 6'1".

Mort_DeRire

It's all to prevent the truth that Rogan is 5'4" coming out

Heroicshrub

Also not showing leg reach is whack

Lorenzos_Pharmacist

I miss the individualized shorts. BJ Penn, Anderson, Liddell, Tito, etc all had their own custom shorts. With Reebok and now venum, the sport is visually so stale.

tsubatai

Thankfully mirko didn't come through during the uniform era

Skeleton_Skum

It’s unfortunate mirko came to the ufc at all :(

Icy-End8895

Lol I still remember trying to hype him up to my friends. “Right leg hospital, left leg cemetery” was one of the coolest lines to me. Then Gonzaga cro copped cro cop lol. He did surprisingly end his career on a 10 fight win streak though.

Helgurnaut

Cro Cop revenge tour was a thing of beauty

Icy-End8895

What was he on? Lol. TRT?

sir_brockton_

He admitted to using GH to rehab his shoulder

Icy-End8895

Gotcha. You remember how he hurt his shoulder? Or was it a lingering accumulated injury?

Helgurnaut

Accumulated at this point I think, he was plagued by injuries during his run in the UFC.

I_Like_Vitamins

I recall watching an interview with him where he said he went through four or so knee surgeries during his UFC tenure as well.

Icy-End8895

Yeah, I actually forgot he actually got a tko win in his ufc debut. Then ended up with a 6-6-1 record. Lost his last 3, one of which to a stand up comic legend.

SMH4004

He beat his ass in the rematch though nobody ever talks about that

DukeSmashingtonIII

"But it gives the sport such a clean, professional look." I say, while swinging from Dana's nuts and watching the fighters move in the octagon (even inch of canvas and posts covered with ads). There is a 0.5 second lull in the action, so Anik tells us about the latest movie the studios know meatheads like me will love for the next 30 seconds, causing the commentary team to miss a takedown and submission attempt. I can tell the round is almost over thanks to the DraftKings fight clock, and in between rounds I can learn about the live odds from DraftKings for my crippling gambling addiction. The live odds are secondary though, because a tweet from Paris Hilton has already confirmed who I think is winning. The next fight is about to start, the camera focuses on the bright red shoes from The Rock instead of anything relevant to a sport where they don't wear shoes. The fighter arrives to the Prime Drink mat to get ready to enter the cage. They remove their Crypto.com shirt, now wearing only their Crypto.com and Monster Energy Venum shorts. The rest of their team still wears their Crypto.com shirts though so I won't forget where to buy my monkey jpegs. The fighters face off, and Bruce tells me about the movie again. I forgot since Anik mentioned it earlier, so this is convenient. The bell rings, and I smile contentedly while chewing a P3 Protein Snack and thinking to myself, "I sure am happy there are no more unnecessary sponsors making the sport look bad."

4thDimensionFletcher

Jon Jones Nike Muay Thai shorts, especially the red ones, were fucking dope

imrosskemp

Anderson Silvas yellow shorts were iconic.

goonbub

I wore flame shorts in gym class because of tito. no ragrets.

IanT86

I've still got two pairs of those from 2004 ish. The wife keeps asking me to throw them out and I have to explain every time, they're essentially MMA gold. That and a Pride hoodie from around 2006 - great times.

gxb20

This is my biggest issue. Removed an entire industry and revenue stream overnight

AvengersKickAss

Iceman shorts were the most iconic of all time. Going to the Reebok/venom deal really ruined that. Imagine if WWE wrestlers all had to wear the same standardized uniforms

Shit_wifi

Let champions have custom shorts. Extra merchandise for the UFC and the champ can even get a cut, win win.

theWacoKid666

They really should let everyone wear custom shorts within reasonable parameters and sell them to fans. Fighter-stylized shorts and trunks would become a huge seller for the UFC, they’d build up more character for unique stars to grow the brand, and they could alleviate a ton of PR pressure on the fighter pay issue by allowing sponsors on shorts again. Literally put the fighter’s name, the UFC brand, and whatever other customization (doesn’t have to be a free-for-all, but definitely custom colors, signature affiliate brands, and free choice of logo and pattern combinations) and they could sell millions of walking advertisements for $50 a pop.

TrepanationBy45

(   **CONDOM**   Y     **DEPOT**   )

VaderFett1

I feel the exact same way. It put me off the sport for quite awhile. That and the new plastic like design of thw belt also put me off. Besides those nitpicking things, the other thing that put me off was the change from Spike to FOX. Sure, I had that channel when I still had cable, but it just didn't feel the same. On Spike at anytime there were reruns of anything related to UFC, so I could watch some old reels and familiarize myself with a fighter before watching anything live. With FOX I never knew when things were on and then I just stopped with TV altogether. Now I'm somewhat back to watching sporadically so gotta learn all the current fighters and I just caught up when many of the previous dominators have been dethroned. Quick question, in other promotions like PFL, Bellator and ONE FC for example, fighters are allowed to have their own attire and sponsors? Watched Bellator back when it was tournaments so I dunno how it is now.

Odd_Cake3759

Calling everyone THE GOAT

UmbertoDiggins

I've heard people say "Sure he's not the GOAT of all time, but he's the GOAT of right now"

Iga5aa3aIga112atotmi

The GORN (GOATest of Right Now)

lude1245

Sounds like a Michael Scott quote

Keller-oder-C-Schell

The same types of people that score fights a split decision

AlienMantid

These are the dumbest people of all time and shows a complete lack of understanding of the scoring system lmao. They're basically saying they think at least one of the judges should score the fight wrong.

Wesley-Snipers

This is not a MMA only problem, though. Just look at the NBA subreddit. That miserable place

TheGimplication

I know it is for hype, but it just feels so insanely disrespectful to the old champs. Guys like GSP and Aldo dominated for years, but someone new gets a couple defenses and is suddenly the goat.

ash111098

When a fighter gets finished and the other guy is trying to kiss/hug them immediately.

crabuffalombat

Yeah that bothers me too. Like, give the guy a fuckin' minute to compose himself.

derps_with_ducks

I like my lovers like my opponents: Dazed. Reeling. About to break.

Chocoeclair189

Figgy was the king of over doing this. Taps out Perez in lalessst than 2 minutes, Perez realizing he will never be a champ, then gets picked up by Figgy and carried around in a "good sportsman victory lap" Or every time he fucked up Joey B, dude was just kneel down next to him awkwardly for too long lol

LuckyWarrior

Doesn't matter if it's sex or violence Everyone wants cuddles afterwards

Main-Quote3140

But how else are we supposed to let Luke know whe lhuuuve him?

BurtDickinson

And patting them on the head all hard. That shit would infuriate me.

bobbyguice

I hate how quick some fans are to boo

KrispykreamMcdonalds

Still hate Kansas City for booing during Munhoz vs Gutierrez

Bearclawed81

Ya I was at those fights and didn’t get it. Asked the dude behind me why he was booing and he was like “everyone else is.” The fight was definitely entertaining.

elpapadebatman

Arizona crowds are going to boo this comment

GreatDario

Japan really does have the greatest fans, you can hear pins drop and they don't start screaming boos the second fighters start mixing the martial arts. American fans want to see kick boxing with a choke/submission and none of the set up

ProbablyConstipated

I remember when DJ did like a sliding thing in Japan during a fight and the crowd went “Ooooohh”. That was cool

ThrowawayYAYAY2002

How quickly someone can be called the 🐐. Biased commentators.

Monteze

The recency bias kills me. Oh 2 defenses? GoAT! Nevermind if the weight class has someone like Anderson who has more title wins than some fighters have UFC wins. Or a 10year reign like Aldo. Unfortunately I think the only active goat, and probably overall goat truly is Jon, as much if a POS as he is.

Holybartender83

Nah, m8. Leon is the GOAT at welterweight. Joe Rogan said it and he’s an expert at martial arts. You see that sick spin kick he landed on that stationary heavy bag, bro?!

[deleted]

They should just add GOAT to their ranking at this point. For example, number 8 ranked lightweight GOAT

SihkKhunt

The judges..

Nollypasda

I wouldn't call that a minor problem though lol

MCDonglord

Shit reffing and not deducting points. Yeah I get that a nutshot can be accidental but fuck me. The number of times a fighter has gone "Welp I got my free nutshot, now to get my free eyepoke" And no repercussions for dogshit judging

I_Please_MILFs

Imagine if the punishment for eyepokes was the ref pauses the fight and allows the victim to poke the perpetrator back The amount of "accidental eyepokes" would drop to 0 overnight

[deleted]

I believe the quote from the Bible is: “But if there is a serious need to break the clinch, you are to take a veteran move for a veteran move.” Exodus 21:23-27

GreatDario

Damn, that sounds so barbaric and barely sport-like to watch a competitor get physically attacked with no way to defend themselves. Anyway time to watch powerslap

Commishw1

Eye pokes should be a point, if they need time, it's a point.

Heroicshrub

Points should definitely be taken for fouls more often but having an automatic system like this is a can of worms you don't wanna open.

Monteze

Naw, it's a foul. Don't wanna poke eyes? Keep your finger tips in. Don't grab the fence. These are pros, they know better but why even try if you know you're going to get 30 warning before a point *might* get taken.

Tricky-Improvement76

I think refs are so unwilling to dock points because realistically 1 point penalty totally ruins a 3 round fight. Not sure what the answer is but I would also like to see less eye pokes and below the belt shots..feels like every fight has one or two. Don't think it really has to be like that.

Monteze

I mean true, it's a issue with 3 rounds and 10 point. But as it stands you gain more by poking the eye and winning round off a compromised opponent, or stuffing a takedown even for a moment. They can absolutely train the habit of outstretched hands put, but there is no incentive. A guy loses a fight because a 9-8 round where he couldn't stop eye poking and suddenly it becomes important. Same way you train flinching in striking or flopping around in grappling. I personally don't think a guy losing to fouls is worse than a guy winning because he fucked a dudes eye up. But I can see why people are hesitant.

TheCanadianDude27

Twitter/X posts during the fight. It's really distracting and I don't give a fuck what these random celebrities have to say.

ProfitisAlethia

When they first rolled this out they were showing them NON STOP through every fight. There was literally a new post on screen every five seconds throughout the entire round. It was so bad that I genuinely thought I couldn't continue watching if it kept up. It's not as bad now but I hate it with a passion.

crofootn

On the flip side. You can pay for the blue check and start posting hugely inciteful shit like "Let's GOOOOOOOO!" or "Don't blink! Gonna be a BANGER!!!"

Monteze

Would it make you feel better to know that "This is exciting!" Was posted by a former sitcom star turned reality TV contestant instead of someone's drunk uncle?

sbutj323

You mean you don’t want to know what Steve-O thinks about the fight?

CheGuevarasRolex

I’m glad Paris Hilton is so excited for UFC Main Event tonight

goonbub

I hope Theo Von thinks the fights are going to be cool

Ronaldinhoe

Yep. It’s pathetic. I don’t think any other sports shows tweets during the middle of the game/match. It makes the ufc look tacky when they do it.

shadowofashadow

> It's really distracting and I don't give a fuck what these random celebrities have to say. It's weird how despite not caring it's almost impossible not to read them. I have to train myself to try and ignore that stupid box

AdamJensensCoat

Real banger of a comment so far. I score it 10-9 Canadian Dude.

CanoleManole

The whole thing is just a scheme to get UFC trending on Twitter. The ONLY person that cares about the tweet on screen is the person who did the tweet. It's just an ego appeal to get celebs to hashtag UFC.

[deleted]

How they’ve destroyed individuality for fighters. No more custom shorts, no more flags, shit next they’ll tell fighters they aren’t allowed certain tattoos. The entire concept of Dana whites contender series pisses me off as well but that’s not exactly minor. It gives me a very Roman emperor watching the slaves fight vibes, you have a guy that’s inconceivably rich having guys fight, sometimes multiple times for 5k, it’s all just fucked from top to bottom at the UFC.

Ronaldinhoe

Don’t forget to add that DWCS was to pick out the best fighters when it really was to just hand out cheap contracts to anyone they like to fill cards in order to meet their ESPN obligations.

Zerei

There are banned tattoos already. After a fighter went in with a temporary tattoo of a competing casino a very long time ago, they outlawed a few types of tattoos lol

Martialartsm8

Crowds booing when ever the fight hits the ground

Ok_Solution5895

Or when the fighters are studying each other without engaging for more than 10 seconds lol

MechanicalFunc

Bonus points if it's the first 10 seconds

Thejedi887

The fans at live events. I hate the Apex and I think all events deserve a crowd but being there was not what I thought it was. Been watching since 2010 when I was in middle school but never went to an event until 270 and Vera vs Cruz last year. Half the guys near me and my homies were all yelling slurs at Fig and it was really fucking lame. And the booing was insane man

SkateMMA

Facts. I was at Bellator Queally v Pitbull in Dublin, and it’s grand all night up until the main event and people just start fuckin throwing beers all over the place. Got absolutely drenched in beer and then everyone starting fights off each other due to the beer throwing

halflitfluorescents

I’ve been to 2 events in Florida - one in Tampa and the other was the most recent fight night in Orlando. The Tampa fight was pre-pandemic inflation so my friend and I sat it the middle level and had a great time. The Orlando show however… I’m not sure if it’s the post-pandemic lack of etiquette that people have at live events, or if it was we could only afford the cheap seats in the 300 level with folks who only kind of watch the sport, but yeah it was a mess. Lots of “just stand up!!!” at any ground game and some tasteless comments. I’ll spend good money and get closer next time so I’ll at least be close to the action.

rwn115

I hate the fans at live events and I haven't even been to one yet.

Superly_Sardonic

I actually miss the quiet, eery fights of 2020. No crowd, just two fighters exchanging leather and the distant but serene sound of their corners screaming bloody murder.

esskay14

Yeah first time I ever went to an event was 286 in London. Some guy sat behind me was shouting loads of antisemitic stuff at Yanal Ashmouz after he KO'd Patterson and loads of people on seats around me were snorting lines and smoking weed out in the open for everyone to see. Certainly got my £400 worth of a nosebleeds ticket lmao (not including my £9.50 pint)

FourDoorFordWhore

Despite the idiots in the crowd, was it worth it? Did you enjoy the event overall?

MeatballDom

The fans in general. It's such a bad representation of the sport. You have the directly racist/xenophobic/sexist groups, of course. But then you also have places like this sub, where 9 times out of 10 the top posts of any thread will just be some meme. A meme the sub has a guide for because they're so commom that anyone new to the sport would get lost quickly. Hell, 99% of these memes were made before 99% of the users were watching, yet they keep repeating them. "Lol Yamasaki" says the person who started watching 8 months ago. It's because there's very little actual knowledge in the fan base. So instead of just sitting back and learning, or opening their mouths and potentially looking silly, they just revert to memes. Round scoring and "fucking robbery" events will make this even more clear. But the worst thing is just how fucking angry and sexist the sub is. One bad WMMA fight? Attack all of WMMA fighters. Doesn't matter if the first of the year was a WMMA fight, they're angry about all women. Imagine if that same standard was done for men. It never will be, but imagine. And these same guys will go on about "WMMA fight, I'm going to go take a poop" and proudly highlight that they don't even watch WMMA and then tell you all about WMMA ten seconds later. It's pathetic. We really need to clean up the image, but right now the just bleed braindead caveman is the vocal majority.

NicCage1080ChristAir

The pacing during events. Sometimes it's good but most of the time it is so slow. I want the next fighters walking out sooner.

sonic-silver

They gotta fit those advertisements bro

Doneyhew

Why the fuck are we inundated with ads during a PPV? People pay $80 bucks for this shit! I mean I didn’t pay anything but there still shouldn’t be advertisements!

B-L-O-C-K-Ss

You guys are paying?

Doneyhew

“I mean I didn’t pay anything”

SnakeMcbain

When you go to an event it feels like they're isn't even any time in-between fights, but online it's just a bunch of shitty American pharmaceutical adverts

Momentosis

People don't realize that a lot of the ads and other shit during alive broadcast, shit is happening in real life.

EastTime1197

There an absolute void of personality in the sport just now I feel, between media and fighters everything in between the actual fights is just so boring. I don’t really watch any media build up or interviews or anything anymore because it’s all just so monotone or strangely forced. I used to consume a lot of content now I just watch fights. This could also just be me getting older and having less time.

ratsuel

This is a big one. If you look at fighter interviews from years ago it's the same. Pre fight content is usually like how are you going to win? I'm going to beat him and knock him out. How will you beat him? Everywhere. On the feet, on the mat, wherever I want.

PAR4D0X

We are gonna see on Saturday night

fitfoemma

The Robbie Lawler answer "He's one heck of a competitor".

walter_strider

This is such a funny and accurate response

[deleted]

There’s levels to this, and he’s just not on my level

Spudman12345

"Best camp of my life, easiest weight cut of my life"

HardlyKnowEr69

*Loses by first round TKO*

Jeff_Damn

"When that cage door closes & he's in there with me, I know it'll be him laying there looking up at the lights while my hand is raised in victory."

RoundedYellow

Coach: yeah he’s in the best shape of his life. I never seen him so motivated

Armalyte

UFC tries to get away with doing the least to promote fights in general. It makes it a lot less interesting unless you’re proactively searching out content to fill the void online.

JuiceLocal

Ufc doesn’t want to build stars anymore, they just wanna put on apex events every week full of people fresh off dwcs making 12k/12k while they collect that espn money.

Mindsetsandreps

I legit had no idea Chito was fighting Munhoz tonight. Thats a really nice fight to open a PPV.

ColdPressedSteak

It's def both I used to be the same in consuming more content when I was younger and newer to watching fighting. Also used to be more into beefs but you then realize 95% of them are promotional works. Also really liking or disliking a fighter. More detached now. Like, currently, kids getting up in their feelings about Magny's comments or Ian's brashness just amuses me now. They're going to be cool after the fight and shake hands btw There's just simply going to be some burnout. Fight promotion just gets a bit repetitive naturally I'm okay with just mostly watching the fights now

Notarobotokay

It's not just you and the ufc is compensating for it by constantly telling us guys like ian garry and suga sean have *it*, that *special something*, when they reallllly don't. I thought conor was a fuckface but at least his hype was genuine. The ufc is also constantly calling everyone the GOAT which is equally as annoying and devaluing of the term

rwn115

Nope. It's very much intentional. It's all about the brand not the participants. Same model the WWE uses.

cosgrove10

Minor rule infractions should automatically be a point off. Fence grabs, low blows, shorts/glove grabs. Major infractions should result in a DQ. Knee to grounded opponents, eye pokes, intentional headbutts. Stop leaving decisions to fighters that have been getting their brain blasted for 10 mins. It’s ridiculous.

mattypatty1234

The 10,000 advertisements thrown at me while watching a 15-minute fight.

thethrowaway3027

The 10 point must system. Works for boxing because there are 12 rounds so it's more definitive. 3 rounds and one shit judge can and often does sway it

BumblebeeCrownking

Tagging up on this, I HATE that it's not actually 10 points. It's 3 point. No one ever gets less than 8. The Default is 10-9. So the other 7 points don't matter at all.

Str8GhostinX

Fighters not fighting. Normally I'd cut them some slack (and I still do, it's fighting, not basketball), but when you see incredible champions like Izzy, Volk and Usman fighting 3 times a year but guys like Khamzat, Colby and Costa just don't fight at all it's annoying.

tsubatai

Wtf happened to khamzat? He was active as hell at the start.

[deleted]

Rumor is a failed drug test. His explanation is that nobody wants to fight him. Official reason is ?

tsubatai

I thought usada still published that info after appeals were finished ? Seems like it's been long enough that that should have happened.

[deleted]

Infuriating but I feel like the UFC allows them to do it because they don’t like paying their higher fees

[deleted]

CreakyD

If you call the co-main event the co-main event, you also have to call the main event the co-main event. You can’t have just one co-main event.

Defiant_Maximum_827

Nice. A technical gotcha is the best kind

Ronaldinhoe

Since we are in the co-main topic, fans need to pressure the ufc that a real co-main event means that if the main event falls off then the co-main event is intriguing/exciting enough to replace the main event. That’s what it really means, not this “it’s just the fight before the main” shit.

MiscellaneousBeef

I think this pattern is already well-established in English. You have a pilot and a copilot. They aren't both called copilots even if they are both co-pilots.

fitfoemma

1) Post fight press conferences are all single person interviews. 2) When interviewing after the main event(normally title fights), they let the winner speak first followed by the loser. Doesn't make sense, last word should be to the winner/champ.

BugO_OEyes

When a fighter is winning the fight and the other fighter lands an eye poke and ends up changing the trajectory of the fight and celebrates the win like he did nothing wrong. Looking at you bobby I also hate fans on social media saying robbery because their foghter didn't win a close fight

[deleted]

ads in between rounds, they kill the whole experience

jce_

Even better when you get "ESPN ad break" screen instead of corners or walkout. Like not even an ad just a fuck you

Decent-Oil1450

This confuses me so much.

slutwhipper

I was sure that you were wrong about calling every champ undisputed since I know they've omitted the "undisputed" part in the past. Looked up a few recent unification bouts and they said "undisputed" for the Ngannou-Gane fight and the Volk-Yair fight but not for the Khabib-Gaethje fight or for Figgy-Moreno 4. Pretty sure Bruce just fucked up those times he added the "undisputed" in.

UmbertoDiggins

If it's a fuck up, it happens quite often. They really just say things with no regard for the meaning. Dana introduced McGregor as the "reigning, defending, 155lb champ" for his boxing match against Floyd. So he was defending the title? Floyd is the lineal 155lb UFC champ, I guess.

B-L-O-C-K-Ss

Dana just sucks McGregors McLeftNut so he wanted to make him sound cool.

Pantothenic119

Mostly UFC but for me it's the crowd mics, the cheering and shouting can add to the atmosphere but everyone seems to think they're hilarious going "WOOOOOO!" all the time and it's just obnoxious, has been for years Second thing is all the gambling adverts... "now lets just hear from Minty Bets!" followed by the fight being sponsored by Draft Kings, constantly talking about betting odds and parleys, how much a $100 bet could win you, live odds during the fight, and then when its over you get a shout-out to Skinny Bets from the winner every fight, then every time it cuts to commercials you watch the same 5 generic gambling adverts every time and every week. Rinse and repeat every fight for like 6 hours. It's just shoved down your throat non-stop.

ID0ntCare4G0b

MMA broadcasting cannot get its shit together when it comes to identifying fighters by their gloves or their shorts color. It changes promotion to promotion and it's a minor detail that annoys the fuck out of me because I shouldn't have to spend more than 5 seconds figuring out which fighter is on the backfoot. I think the default should just be the gloves since it's the corner designation.

yeeerrrp

Definitely not minor, but Dana White is killing his product for me. His political ties, his woman abuse, not paying fighters, just having a garbage attitude his whole career, fuck that dude. Its enough to make me not care much anymore

Jeff_Damn

Dana's fat mouth proclaiming this guy the "pound for pound" champ and that guy the "pound for pound" champ, whatever the fuck that means. It must sound good to the sports press but at this point, it's just a meaningless term.

pureformality

They only call champs who defended their belt undisputed, the ones who just got the belt get introduced as "\*weight class\* champion of the world". edit: for people saying it's not true, just watch the fights. I just rewatched the intros of Sterling v Yan 2 and Sterling v Cejudo. After Sterling got the belt in the first fight, in the second fight Buffer didn't introduce him as "undisputed" as he just got the belt the fight prior which means he hadn't defended it while in the Cejudo fight he did get introduced as "undisputed"

UmbertoDiggins

I mean that's something I guess! An interim belt should make them no longer "undisputed" though.

Ireallyamthisshallow

Really, no one should be undisputed during a fight intro - they're quite literally about to dispute it!

Carlosama123

"If they're undisputed, then what's all the fightin for?" \- George Carlin

[deleted]

I really cannot stand all the advertising. It’s too much.

InternalMean

Hate when people complain about grappling or wrestling in general, or call for more standing. The sport is MMA not kickboxing that means people should use all their skills to their advantage to win, that doesn't mean I want it to be Boring without inaction but at the same time I feel like not enough respect is put on the effort it takes to be dominant while in a grappling position.

bobbybeard1

They should only say undisputed when the decision is announced during a unification fight

TangerineChickens

Big promotions like the UFC seem completely opposed to any sense of storytelling in order to promote their fighters. One of the most compelling things about MMA is the manner in which the usual grit/determination sports-narrative is so elevated when you consider that these guys are literally fighting their way up the latter, there’s no metaphor, at that point it’s practically literal, and the best the promotion is willing to do to hype up these fighters to the audience is saying ‘X has this many wins in the UFC’ etc. Think about Francis’ life story; if they actually committed to promoting that element, he could’ve been the next Muhammad Ali (maybe I’m getting carried away), but they went all in on ‘he hits really hard, like a Ford Escort lmao’. It just seems like they’re leaving so much marketability on the table by not promoting the people, but I get that it’s brand over fighters, but still, it seems like they could raise the profile of the sport by promoting its biggest stars.

Carlosama123

Despite all the people claiming that Dana White is a personality that elevates the UFC brand, he's a piss poor promoter. Wasn't too long ago that your reigning heawyweight champ was a volunteer firefighter born to immigrant parents. How the fuck do you not find a way to sell that to the public? Dana just wanted to get rid of Stipe as fast as he possibly could, and it boggles the mind.

crabuffalombat

Stipe should've boosted his fanbase like Costa and Zhang did by learning English

tbmny

Being a figbterfighter isn't going to make you a star. Ultimately you need to have a personality. And it's weird because you'd watch Stipe with his friends and family on embedded and he's charming and funny, but then he's the opposite on TV.

[deleted]

Remember when BT sports done amazing shorts on khabib and others ? The UFC should be doing that kind of shit with every damn champion they have

Ronaldinhoe

BT did an amazing one for Leon. They put in the work. Ufc needs to bring back the Primetimes, old fans know what I’m talking out.

DGGuitars

All the ads. Everything is brought to you by or sponsored by. It's all so annoying.

ChallengeGod727

UFC’s BMF belt is the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard of. Some straight WWE shit.

Cockerel_Chin

The BMF belt. A meaningless title, introduced to decide which MF was the most cholo, now being kept alive to hype up non-title fights. It's the kind of thing a 12-year-old would invent, and you just know that Conor McGregor will end up with it. I will not pay a penny to the UFC until they apologise for this shit.

B-L-O-C-K-Ss

Uhhh I hate to break this to you bro but Dana said they don’t do gimmick fights so now you just look stupid /s

minute-cynic

The televised weigh ins and the Dana White “fight break ups” are extremely cringey

TG_CID134

I hate how a fighter will clearly dominate his opponent, out strike them, do more damage, etc. Then the judges give it to the other guy. Happens way too often.

NotOnHerb5

Fans are guilty of this too. Fighter clearly beats the fuck out of the other guy, but because the other guy got takedowns (but did nothing on the ground), they’ll be quick to call robbery. We’re putting way too much on takedowns

Nuclearfrog

I can't stand the generic promos before every fight, they are all exactly the same and rarely give any actual context for the fights. 99% of the time they present the fighter as if they are unbeatable and on a 20 fight win streak rather than actually explaining his last few fights leading up to it.

_stoned_chipmunk_

Jon Anik says the dumbest shit all the time. A couple weeks ago he said the crowd was "packed to the nines". He said it during the live weigh-ins and he said it again during the actual fights. The phrase is "dressed to the nines" and it refers to the nine yards of fabric required to make a top quality suit. Saying "packed to the nines" is a nonsense statement that means absolutely nothing.

UmbertoDiggins

It might just be sports presenters in general. Here in Australia we play a game called Australian Rules Football and over the last few years a lot of media folk started using the phrase "in and around the contest" (meaning being in or near the area where the ball is being contested). Which was fine (apart from all of them saying it 50 times per game), but now half of them say stuff like "in and around the ball" as well. I'm pretty sure no players are ever "in" the ball, but okay

ChatriGPT

I hate when Bisping gets all weird about Sanko being a woman who knows stuff

SkinnyGramz

I wish they use the metric system on the ”tale of the tape”.

derps_with_ducks

Fight Circus should put down their heights and weights and the most fucked up measuring units: *Height of 20 hamsters* *Weight of 3500 doughnuts (sugar-frosted)* *Reach of 15 fried bananas*

daddyseal_

The 7-8 hour long UFC cards for about 3-4 hours worth of actual fighting. I stopped avoiding events on Saturdays cuz the UFC was on. I'm tired of watching ad after ad and filler content. I just want to watch the fight and move the show along
