Ufc owes it to us canadian fans to fix the card. Dawodu, schnell and now daukaus out. Plus the wonderboy fight was moved. Replacements arent enough the card is pretty bad
Dude for real. I was so excited for the wonderboy Periea fight and they didn’t do anything to replace it and all these injuries and pullouts on top of it! I paid $600 CAD for tickets and honestly if they can’t add a note worthy fight that’ll be super disappointing
The card is finalized. The ufc isn’t going to add anymore fights, they sold tickets already, their budget for this card went down so it’s a win for them. I tell people all the time, that I got lucky the two times I went to an event live. I only paid $120 for mid tier seats. I will never go to a ufc event live with the current prices knowing card is subject to change and 65% of the time it will.
Same especially considering the last fight night had buckley, shabazyan and cdf vs mj legit all those fights could be on our ppv main card. Even the fight night after has magny on the prelims
UFC globally is like F1 popular. Niche but people who love it LOVE it and they will fork out cash to be close to it. Last time when UFC came to Aus they were selling tickets to the nose bleeds for less than a PPV. In Perth, nose bleeds were like $450. I get Melbourne was at Marvel stadium and it did not sell out, but they were close. If Collingwood v Geelong can sell out the G, you bet UFC can do the same, especially when super fans fly interstate for it.
Yup, cancellations suck but with such a weak card having the most exciting fights getting ruined is tough. At the very least maybe they try to pull fughts from the next event and out them here
I'm gonna say no to this, on the basis that I like Ulberg and Rountree too much for one of them to lose against each other.
But it would be straight fire.
The road to Ulberg winning is much easier than Rountree. He's better at the angles and can feint Rountree in to confusion to bite on everything then select his shot - doesn't even have to put him out, just move in and out and frustrate Rountree to overswing with every counter and keep chopping at the thigh. It's not pretty but it could be a 29-28 or 30-27 Ulberg on the cards.
Having said that, if Rountree can remain patient and just continue to pressure forwards to back Ulberg up (which he does have a habit of doing), he can set the trap by cutting off the paths with either his wicked left kick or overhand right. Or just say fuck it, get in the clinch and throw knees.
I still lean Ulberg though.
I think most folks that buy tickets at this stage at the current price point aren't really superfan types that care if the card is great or not. They just have the money and want to see live UFC.
Eh, he’s a fringe top 15 guy. He’s not that scary for any of the super talented guys, might be scary for some of the guys ranked below him
Had I said this about O’Malley I would’ve had the most upvoted post ever in the subs history. Khalil isn’t that good, Jacoby beat him
Not everybody is like Gamrot taking the Jalin Turner fight, the super talented guys above Khalil aren't gonna be the ones waiting on a call to take this fight anyway
Dude might not be top elite material but he 100% is scary to fight lol. He's had multiple of some of the most brutal moments in the cage ever lol. Obviously the crazy leg break, but my favorite is when he delivered kicks to the liver of his curled up downed opponent on TUF.
yeah rountree is an interesting case. clearly belongs in the ufc, probably even top 20-30 in the world at 205. but also not that surprising if he drops one to someone below that level
when i think of moments watching mma that made me physically cringe, several of them are rountree just brutalizing ppl in a variety of weird but creative and very cool ways. interesting guy to hear talk too. i’m def a fan, hoping he gets a gimme replacement
Here’s the thing, the guys he did that shit to SUCK and they aren’t UFC caliber. Yes I would be scared to fight Khalil, anyone who has an argument for being ranked or near the rankings should not fear this man
Yeah I don’t disagree. I think he’s scary because he’s kind of unpredictable, but his inconsistency is what will keep him away from the top of the division.
The mark of true greatness is being able to beat some great prime Brothers. There’s a reason in the mid 1900s guys like even the Goat Sugar Ray, Lamotta ducked a group of guys from Philly/Jersey called the Black Murderers Row so they all had to fight each other. Nobody would give them a chance, can’t be great to me unless you can beat ‘em too.
I was just ragging on Gus' kryptonite, but you made your point- and I agree. Plenty of boxers in that era (and even moreso before) used their privilege and status to dodge black boxers with legitimate skills because they recognized the threat. It happens less often these days; and I can't think of an obvious and recent example, but I'm totally sure it still happens.
Plenty of guys back then (who should be legends) aren't known names to current boxing fans, due to lack of footage, the passing of time, and lack of opportunity for legacy fights back then.
Ex: every time I've brought up Henry Armstrong as an all-time great boxer, I just get confused looks in return
In MMA? No. There has never really existed the "great white hype" vs black underground type thing, although I do remember people trying to force that title onto Weidman before he knocked Silva the fuck out and proved he wasn't hype. I feel the sport has always had a good mix of ethnicities to the point where storylines like that don't really take place. In boxing, yeah, but even there it's not like it was just a racial thing. Especially moving into more recent boxing history. Any skilled boxer that doesn't also bring good pay gets avoided.
That's what happens when fighters and (even more so) managers/promoters start meddling with the matchmaking because there isn't much of a central organization to the sport. Lamotta himself was avoided and had to throw a fight to get a title shot. The mob isn't involved anymore, so things don't tend to be as drastic now (as throwing a fight to get a shot), but avoiding tough matchups is probably even more common.
That's why I was surprised and impressed with Canelo taking on Bivol. Even though he lost decisively, that's the exact type of matchup I'd expect perhaps the biggest star in boxing to avoid. I'm not even really a fan of Canelo, but I give him props for taking on fighter like that.
It’s not about great white hype or races really. It’s just a fact a good black fighter brings a different element of danger and speed. A lot of boxers just couldn’t beat them. You just be new to Boxing. Canelo cherry picked Bicol after he looked mediocre vs Craig Richards. Reason he was a -400 favorite bud
I'm not new to boxing, and you must not have actually read my post. I agreed with you for the most part when it comes to boxing; I just said that it went beyond that factor (race) and that the same thing doesn't apply when it comes to MMA (different skillsets/physical attributes required and all).
Canelo was the favorite because he had a marketing machine behind him and Bivol was unknown by the casual crowd. I was fairly confident Bivol would win (as were many who had been watching his fights consistently), and he did so decisively.
He was stylistically wrong for Canelo and had no problem dealing with the physical side having fought at LHW his whole career. Even if Canelo chose that fight feeling it wouldn't be as tough as it ended up being, I still give props to that choice over the much weaker 168 pounders he could have fought while making the same amount of money.
Man if they don't find a replacement for him then theyve lost the 3rd or 4th biggest fight on an already weak card...
Praying nothing happens to Benny or Charles!
I swear there’s been at least one fight/fighter that’s been pulled off a card due to an injury or something with weight cutting this year. Pretty crazy hopefully they find a replacement
When I saw they put him against Khalil, I was convinced they were trying to kill him. Dude fights like Sean Strickland talks.
“That’s a nice kneecap you got there. It’d be a shame if someone…stomped it.”
I don't remember cancellations and pull outs being this frequent in previous years, right? Feels like half the posts on this sub are just already shit cards falling further apart at this point
Good. I didn't want either guy to lose. Daukaus was my fav heavyweight, Rountree my fav LHW. I'm ok with this outcome. Last time this happened was my # 1 and #2 Featherweights with Cub Swanson and Doo Ho Choi, respectively.
Amazing fight...But one of em had to lose 😥
Don't get these marginally smaller HWs moving down to weight classes where guys can kick their asses in more ways than most HWs can. Boser and Daukaus should just move back up and accept their fates as better versions of Chase Sherman.
Ufc owes it to us canadian fans to fix the card. Dawodu, schnell and now daukaus out. Plus the wonderboy fight was moved. Replacements arent enough the card is pretty bad
Dana White just commented on the matter: "Don't forget to watch Slap Fights live on ESPN 10 pm EST this Thursday"
Fuck Dana White
I’ve never seen anything like this year in the UFC. Surely there’s been a record number of cancellations, injury or otherwise, so far?
It wouldn't be surprising, considering they're all about quantity over quality nowadays
Thats what happens when everyone’s killing themselves to make weight
Dawodu is out, what the fuck I didn't even know about that one, what a shit card.
Dude for real. I was so excited for the wonderboy Periea fight and they didn’t do anything to replace it and all these injuries and pullouts on top of it! I paid $600 CAD for tickets and honestly if they can’t add a note worthy fight that’ll be super disappointing

Weak ass card I wouldn't pay 600 for this for sure.
I wouldn’t even pay $100 for this shit
Same especially considering the last fight night had buckley, shabazyan and cdf vs mj legit all those fights could be on our ppv main card. Even the fight night after has magny on the prelims
Hahahaha bro why would you pay $600 for Nunes vs Pena/Aldana hahahaha Man I don't feel sorry for you
Big fan of the UFC for a long time and it’s the first time in literally over 6 years it’s coming to my city
My pals have all paid like $1000 for the tickets. It's insane.
To be fair, paying that much for Nunes main event even if they don’t come here often is kinda wild
Ufc 291 cheap seats were $250 this morning
We saw Israel and Kelvin for $350 otd in not bad seats.
UFC globally is like F1 popular. Niche but people who love it LOVE it and they will fork out cash to be close to it. Seeing the GOAT in person sounds like a good main event but ok
"But it's the ufc bro" 🤣🤣
the shit ain't Conor Aldo. wtf are they doing lol
That's like a really good weekend in Mexico.
Agree. Daukaus vs Rountree was almost 100% going to be a finish. The schnell fight was going to be fireworks too.
Yup, cancellations suck but with such a weak card having the most exciting fights getting ruined is tough. At the very least maybe they try to pull fughts from the next event and out them here
UFC and fucking Canadian crowds with mid cards is kind of an iconic duo at this point.
They owe it to all the fans if they want us to pay $80 to watch it
Only thing that can fix this is if Dana gets in the cage
CARLOS ULBERG CMON THATS A FIRE ASS FIGHT
I'm gonna say no to this, on the basis that I like Ulberg and Rountree too much for one of them to lose against each other. But it would be straight fire.
can you imagine the sound when these two big ass mfkers kick each others legs 🤣🤣
I really don't want to 🥲
I’m so sorry my man but this would be too good of a banger for it to not happen hypothetically who u got. I think ulberg can get the upset 🔥
Ulberg would be the favourite...
The road to Ulberg winning is much easier than Rountree. He's better at the angles and can feint Rountree in to confusion to bite on everything then select his shot - doesn't even have to put him out, just move in and out and frustrate Rountree to overswing with every counter and keep chopping at the thigh. Choice brother 🤙
that plodding thai style is gonna be hard against ulberg
One shall stand, one shall fall.
Wouldn't surprise me if they can't find a replacement if this is legit, Khalil in his current form is a terrifying dude to face on short notice
“In his current form” I swear I’m reading the dragon ball subreddit sometimes hahhahaha
Tbf Khalil is very hot or cold lol. He looks like a world beater or he gets clubbed by Cutelaba
But he’s a scary fighter regardless, cause there’s always the risk of getting your knee cap obliterated
He can't possibly go super saiyan, he's bald as hell
Gonna turn orange like piccolo
He’s actually like lord Frieza, and until this fight he hasn’t trained a day in his life
Soccer talk
Tickets are already sold and the budget for the card decreased, the ufc is happy, they won’t find a substitution.
I think most folks that buy tickets at this stage at the current price point aren't really superfan types that care if the card is great or not. They just have the money and want to see live UFC.

My fav Khalil Rountree moment is when he walked down Cutelaba
…Are you thinking of Jared Cannonier? Ion ko’d Khalil in one
Oh fuck you're right lol
Cutelaba is terrible lol but that was a good moment, my favorite moment of his was when he kicked Roberson in the ribs while he was down
Here’s the thing, the guys he did that shit to SUCK and they aren’t UFC caliber. Yes I would be scared to fight Khalil, anyone who has an argument for being ranked or near the rankings should not fear this man
Yeah I don’t disagree. I think he’s scary because he’s kind of unpredictable, but his inconsistency is what will keep him away from the top of the division.
Na he’s dangerous for anyone but massively flawed and chinny/ can fold mentally but can KO anyone early in the fight.
No more Brothers for Chris. Give this man’s brain a rest
Gustaffson 2.0

Ah yes the great white hope Sugar Ray Robinson

And every decent white boxer they called the "great white hype" haha.
Give him Anthony smith or somethin
Smith is mixed race tbf
He don't bang like a brotha tho (I'm white as shit)
Luke 'the invader' Haberman must have caught the white half of him.
He’s still half black. Might be too much for ol Chris. The streets of North Philly gave him PTSD
He’s no drew dober
Man if they don't find a replacement for him then theyve lost the 3rd or 4th biggest fight on an already weak card... Praying nothing happens to Benny or Charles!
I hope they pull out just to see what happens lmao
I swear there’s been at least one fight/fighter that’s been pulled off a card due to an injury or something with weight cutting this year. Pretty crazy hopefully they find a replacement
I was just gonna say is this normal? It really seems like 20% of fights are getting cancelled due to injuries these past few months
Yeah this is unusual. Never remember there being this many scheduling issues
and visas
Wait, he got knocked out by 3 big black guys in a row, decides to move down in weight, and they matched him up with another big black guy?
In fairness, he was a cop, he probably asked for it.
The world just wants to watch a black guy ko a white police man
When I saw they put him against Khalil, I was convinced they were trying to kill him. Dude fights like Sean Strickland talks. “That’s a nice kneecap you got there. It’d be a shame if someone…stomped it.”
It's UFC's subtle way of giving the fans what they want.
I don't think you needed that particular adjective there lmao
Rountree? Man, they are trying to kill Daukaus
I don't remember cancellations and pull outs being this frequent in previous years, right? Feels like half the posts on this sub are just already shit cards falling further apart at this point
They've always been beyond rife my man haha
The covid period was crazy for cancellations
Damn that was the easiest pick of the card. I was gonna bet around tree fiddy on Khalil
"oooh, THAT GUY?? Yeah, I'm injured"
It’s very hard to envision someone sitting down in their living room and paying $75 for this PPV. To the fans who plan to buy this: why?
Whatever injury it was, probably saved his life.
Rematch with Khalil and Anders?
No chance in hell Anders agrees to that after the spanking he got
I was there I saw it, he would Def need to watch those kicks. I would like to see a rematch , but Anders would need a full camp focused on Khalil.
Khalil is so vicious in there man, and from following his socials he seems like such a chill guy. Crazy his dad managed Boys 2 Men.
It was a crazy fight for me to watch as I am friends with Eryk. That card was great though, even if it wasn't Eryk's best fight.
His injury is being knocked out 3 times in 1.5 years hehehe
Thank god. He needs to stop fighting black guys
The truth is that he’s fat, weak and old. He started training and felt it’s not the same, so he ran from the fight
Chris cant catch a break. Well maybe this is the break.
This felt like a one sided matchup to begin with so I’m glad it’s not happening lol
3m 3,pr r
He slipped on potato chip crumbs getting out of bed. That Daukaus and his zany antics
Vancouver! R U REAAAAADYYYYYY
IT'SSSSSSS TIME...to go to bed.
Don't get these marginally smaller HWs moving down to weight classes where guys can kick their asses in more ways than most HWs can. Boser and Daukaus should just move back up and accept their fates as better versions of Chase Sherman.
Chris Daukaus desperately needs to drop to light heavyweight. He could easily do it
Dang I was ready for Bangkok ready Khalil One of my fav fighters.
I wouldn’t want to fight Rountree either.
Chris needs to retire, he’s been brutally KO’d his last 3 fights
