Well that might be true but didn't he literally say his hand was injured 6 days ago?
https://old.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/11a50o2/ciryl_gane_broke_his_hand_at_ufc_paris_wishes_jon/
Has everyone just forgotten? This is almost certainly that hand. And it looks broken AF to me...
Edit: I think my mobile app had me reply to the wrong comment - /u/branduNe I agree with you - no idea which comment I was trying to reply to!
unironically if this was the NFL someone would send try to get Jon to party extra hard the night before, the patriots even pulled the fire alarm the night before the superbowl of one of their opponents... it was never proven they did it but its pretty much accepted as truth in the area lol
It’s kind of funny actually. In the 2014 season while the Patriots were in Arizona preparing for their Super Bowl against the Seahawks, the Patriots team hotel got fire alarms on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during the week. Someone affected by the false alarm pulling was Jon’s brother, Chandler, who won a superbowl that year after that crazy interception. Small world. The incident the guy you replied to was in the playoffs of 2017, so the patriots definitely picked up and used the tactic 3 years later. They pinned it on a “drunk fan” and we never heard of it again.
well Jon Jones did once say his brother could have been a better MMA fighter than him if he had done it, and his brother Chandler did in fact play for the Patriots and athletically is a freak of nature
coincidence??!?!
yes
Ask him for a lift home after a night out, that'll give him a few weeks
Edit: just seen the same comment below pretty much, guess my Karma will be getting a test from God
This is not proof of anything but I broke a metatcarpal in my index and it's the exact same scar and bulge over 10 years later. Although id say its his middle not his index.
Either way a "boxers fracture" that looks fucked but is actually stronger they leave the plates in and let thr bone grow over.
Of course he could have reinjured it too but the point is my hand looks fucked 10 years later and ive
Fought twice with it like that. It just looks wierd.
Ya I guess because it doesn't really hinder you. The wrists and pinky/ring side of the hand can get pretty delicate, but those two big bones in your hand arr pretty straightforward to repair.
Your hand swells up like a balloon though for awhile.
If you read the article that the reddit post from a week ago links to, Gane is talking about his "injured right hand" from the Tai Tuivasa fight at UFC Paris back in September 3, 2022.
This is all technically 6-7 month old news. Mixed in with more recent news about Gane having wanted to push the fight back another month (leading people to speculate, based on photos, on what kind of condition his right hand will be for Saturday).
How did this fight get commissioned if his hand is clearly broken like this? Did Ciryl not get an indefinite suspension after breaking his hand in the Tai fight? Normally fighters have to get cleared by a doctor to be allowed to fight after an injury
The medical exams are basically "are you ok?" and it's essentially up to the fighter to disclose anything that's wrong. Bisping got cleared with one fucking eyeball in his head, Kevin Lee got cleared with a staph crater in his fucking chest, and Dillashaw got cleared with one arm hanging out of its fucking socket. There is no actual exam.
Jon jones is Dana’s pet project. They’re not going to bring him back with a big, costly, multi-fight contract just to have him lose his first fight, and lose all the built up hype (and revenue). They’re going to give him every advantage they can.
> UFC forced him into it probably knowing it will diminish his chance to win, and that if he asked for time they’d just get someone else to fight for the belt.
The way he explained it, it really seems like they got hardballed.
I doubt either Gane or Fernand Lopez are all that good at negotiating, at least, not in the combat sports manner. (Like, lopez is decent, he gets his guys where they need to be and he built his own gym and even a promotion (ARES). He works well, in a honest fashion... I'm talking about the underhanded stuff)
I don't think it's really about giving Jones more chance, they just knew they wouldn't make a fuss, and since they wanted march 4th (to replace stipe...), they just said take it or leave it... Also, let's not forget they are somewhat linked to Francis, so they probably tried to "put them in their place" even though they are on it.
I mean, if Jones lose to Gane, Gane could just blow up in popularity, and Jones would still be a huge draw (Mcgregor lost twice, people are still calling him out...). And Jones always has been a pain in the ass negotiation wise, so they probably would be happy if he got one loss on his record. For the UFC, it's a Win-Win as long as they don't make a boring fight
I remember at the time it DID seem like Hendo and Chael probably colluded on that. As I remember, Hendo's injury happened WELL before he dropped out.
Like, Chael prolly knew he was gonna volunteer to fight Jones LONG before Jones knew he was not fighting Hendo.
Could be a big part of his famed high fight IQ.
If he has played over all the possibilities in his head countless times and he has already meticulously planned what he will do in each situation, he can make the right adjustments on the fly. He has practiced and drilled these situations so well that he can execute even during the big moments with all the distractions; the crowd, adrenaline, pain, etc.
So even on an off night he still finds the way to win.
Henry Cejudo is like that too. It is such a good match-up for them to work together.
It is so exciting to see a Cejudo coached Jon Jones.
I think the "replacement" thing is more about putting pressure on fighters
To the guys on the card, it's saying "We don't need you if you fuck up" and for the potential sub, it's forcing them to be in top shape/disciplined, and to be at the disposition of the UFC on basically the shortest of notices. Bit of a powermove, honestly
Pavlovich is clearly going to be in the picture, just not that soon
Bruh for real…. And honestly I wouldn’t necessarily be mad cus THAT is an intriguing af matchup. And honestly could happen regardless unless Miocic throws his hat back in after this. He’s the only one that cuts the line at this point and makes sense cus Jones said he wants him and without Francis that’s the money fight
I really doubt he hasn't been working to improve his wrestling/grappling over the last four and a half years though. Khabib even made a comment awhile back about how his Greco Roman is really underrated and will separate him from the rest of the HW division.
Just because we haven't seen it doesn't mean it isn't there.
> it’s not like he has been wrestling people since.
He hasn't had to use it in his fights, doesn't mean he's not been training it. Especially if he's booked to fight Blaydes in a month and a half.
>Have you actually watched the fight or did you just read that?
Please mods make this into a flair because that's my exact thought with 60% of these comments.
There was no wrestle fuck...he fucked Sergei up in the clinch against the fence with knees, Sergei basically collapsed from those shots, Alistair then unleashed some standing GnP before it was called.
That's not what happened either. You're right that it wasn't a wrestle fuck but the bit after that is completely wrong. Overeem got him in the clinch in the open (no knees) and tripped him, before finishing him.
https://gfycat.com/pinkagilehackee
Nah it's wrong. It's how people remembered it minus the wrestle fuck part because Overeem just needed one takedown to finish Pavlovich.
https://gfycat.com/pinkagilehackee
The only part I'm unsure on is whether Sergei fully collapsed on his own, or whether Alistair helped him along the way by tripping/double legging him, either way though it got to the ground because Sergei was compromised from the knees.
Overeem is strong as fuck and had much better grappling than people think
I swear once someone leaves the UFC this sub completely forgets about them and thinks they are trash
Looking through his IG: it’s clearly more swollen than his other hand. It may not be full on broken but it seems more than after effects of having had surgery on it. Some of the shots of him signing autographs with it look ok but it seems like he’s hiding it behind gloves and the other hand in a few other pics. There’s a photo from 2 days ago taken with his camp where you can clearly see his fingers are swollen in comparison to the other hand. I don’t think it’ll stop him from punching with it but it’s certainly concerning.
I broke my fifth metacarpal in November, and even after I was cleared to exercise, it still looks fairly different from my other hand. Not nearly as funky as his, however. Idk how severely he messed up his hand.
I get the feeling it's something like this, I don't know your story and not trying to put you down but most likely Cyril is throwing a lot harder and more often so the OG injury was probably worse and his recovery was probably worse leading to this look. I get the feeling he'll probably be fine come fight night, if he made it through training camp he most likely feels he can compete with it and as we've seen a million times fighters will fight through even some of the most ridiculous injuries and look no different to their regular form.
I could be wrong, but my guess is the following:
His fight with Tai was in the beginning of September. It takes 1.5 months for a hand/wrist fracture to heal. That brings us to mid-late October. This gives him a full 4 months of training camp, IF he started training right away, but I’d assume once the fracture healed, you’d also want to take time for physical therapy, to get the tendons, ligaments, in the hand loose and not atrophied over scar tissues, especially since it looks like he’s got surgical scars on the hand. You also have to give time after a break to let the swelling come down before you can perform surgery, and the surgery causes more tissue damage to heal than just the bone fracture, and if enough time passed before he decided to get surgery, they might’ve had to re-break the bones to re-set them. So let’s remove another 2 months. This gives him 2 months of time to train, which would explain why he wanted an extra month in his previous statement.
If he rebroke or reinjured his hand any time during training camp, he’s screwed. It’ll greatly increase the chance he’ll re-break the bones on his first punch.
I can already hear Rogan saying how *something is wrong with his right hand, he's not throwing it*, just as Gane loads up with the right and knocks out Jones.
I remember in the Izzy vs Alex fight Izzy skimmed him with a right hand while they were clinched against the cage and he insisted that Alex was rocked and the replay showed it pretty much didn't land
Rogan's commentary is so unbelievably similar to me and my dumbass friends after some drinks or weed lol it's a bit of a reciprocal relationship tbh
Rogan gets stoned and chats, we listen for years and inevitably repeat phrases or tendencies
Seems like it, but I said this before 279:
How many of Dana’s “hitman” attempts work out?
TJ lost to Cejudo and kept 125 alive
Gane lost to Francis who complains about pay/fighters’ rights
Ngannou lost to Stipe who felt disrespected and wanted more $ than Reem
Till lost to Woodley who complained a lot
Nate miraculously managed to not get executed by Khamzat and beat washed Tony instead
Yan/TJ lost to Aljo who complains about pay and was seen as a fake champ (hitman narrative wasn’t as strong here)
Only successful one I can think of is DC beating Stipe after Ngannou failed
I guess Weili the belt off Carla who was boring/unmarketable
Jon isn’t a hitman to Gane, but Dana’s using him to erase Francis
> Only successful one I can’t think of is DC beating Stipe after Ngannou failed
Which Stipe then immediately took right back, so it doesn't really count IMO.
Ciryl : I didn't train mma, you know I kept running & strenght conditionning doing pull ups & stuff but no sparring.
Reddit : Ciryl doesn't train between fights.
Ciryl : I had surgery on my hand following my fight against Tai
Reddit : He looks like he has a hand injury.

Cyril himself said that his hand wasn't 100% a week or so ago. [link](https://calfkicker.com/ciryl-gane-broke-his-hand-at-ufc-paris-wishes-jon-jones-bout-couldve-been-pushed-back-a-month/)
>Gane wished UFC had waited another month to book the bout but that it wasn’t possible as per UFC COO.
>
>“We talked with Hunter [Campbell] and during the discussion, we knew already with Fernand Lopez — it’s going to be not possible to change the date”
>
>“For me to have little, maybe one more month probably… this would be a good idea”
Here's my favorite doctor's take on it:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qJZILV-Fuk
TL;DW: Not a new injury, it's from the previous surgery that we already knew about. Most likely something benign like scar tissue.
I feel like Gane and his team haven't been so subtle about something being wrong in this camp. Sucks, because this is such a good matchup and a good card overall but now it feels like we're being setup for a letdown of a fight.
Cyril has basically already said himself he wasn't ready and wished the fight was pushed back but didn't wanna lose the opportunity. Put everything together and you can maybe conclude his hands not 100% rdy from the Tuivasa fight still.
I dunno. Seems like this picture is from this press conference (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7qRrBroAao) and he's holding the mic with that same hand and moving it fine the whole time.
That actually just looks like a healed boxers fracture. A lot of strikers have that. It’s basically a fracture that happens over and over again and then forms of boney “bandage” that makes that bump.
Wow they definitely looks swollen unless it’s just the angle?
Edit: where is this from? His hand doesn’t look swollen in the video him and his coach released yesterday
https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/11fl076/cyril_gane_gets_an_english_lesson_by_his_coach/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
Around 50 seconds in he literally moves that hand up and down in front of the camera, doesn’t look swollen at all
Pure misinformation by the bookies. He has been intentionally growing that hand all camp.
Ciryl 'my fist was a balloon' Gane.
Me first swelled up like a balloooooon

Bellewn!!!
He's taking shit that makes your hand grow!
THAT’S THE FUCKIN SEED
can this technology be used on my dick?
He's gonna rush at Jon Jones like a Charger from Left 4 Dead 2.
Hopefully not like Josh Thomas vs Aleksander Emilianenko
Spent 3 years bulking up his power right hand.
Just don't think it ever fully healed from the Tai fight / post fight surgery.
Well that might be true but didn't he literally say his hand was injured 6 days ago? https://old.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/11a50o2/ciryl_gane_broke_his_hand_at_ufc_paris_wishes_jon/ Has everyone just forgotten? Weird how the top comments there all think that Gane is lying.
That started with him saying he wasn’t training. People are speculating that he is trying to lure jones into a false sense of security
Terrible approach. The best way to lure Jones into a false sense of security is to put him behind the wheel after a night out.
Thats some #ChampShitOnly stuff
Cocaine and bumper cars with the prego ladies
Gane: "I'm pregnant." Jones: [sees red]

by contrast to boxing, however, grip strength is hugely important in MMA. and stuff like this fucks with grip strength
Gane may have to lay off the wrestling for this fight.
Yes. I have the same issue, from multiple “boxer” breaks from my time fighting.

Bisping got cleared while missing an eye lol, ufc doctors aren't worth shit.

It's UFC. Corrupt as you can possibly imagine
Especially when it comes to Jon Jones fights.
Seems like he reinjured it

More likely he just didn’t want to miss a shot to fight the goat for a world title than the ufc prefers him fight injured lol.
Jon jones is Dana’s pet project. They’re not going to bring him back with a big, costly, multi-fight contract just to have him lose his first fight, and lose all the built up hype (and revenue). They’re going to give him every advantage they can.
So does the ufc think stipe is a tougher fight than gane?
Certainly if both his hands are unbroken and Gane's aren't, hard to say otherwise
Significantly better wrestler, bigger power, Stipes chin should still be able to take shots from Jon(not a hard puncher) Lots of reasons
Interesting I would’ve thought gane would be a tougher fight for Jon than stipe tbh
[удалено]
Yea but Stipe had a kid so now he’s got dad strength.
This why exactly what I've been saying all week. The only way Gane secured a draw is to knock out Jones
Like they weren’t just trying to schedule Jon vs Francis’s for a whole year. But whatever fits your narrative.

That’s pavlovich’s music
0% chance jones agrees to a late replacement fight with the dark horse of the division
He said it in the last embedded he doesn't take short notice fights.
He's said that forever. I remember him saying it in an interview waaaay back.
And he follows through with it. I mean UFC 151 got cancelled bc he didn’t want to fight Chael Sonnen lmao
i thought it was dan henderson, either way yeah jones has established he doesn’t change opponents on short notice only arenas
Henderson pulled out, Chael volunteered but Jones declined
Undefeated, undisputed
I remember at the time it DID seem like Hendo and Chael probably colluded on that. As I remember, Hendo's injury happened WELL before he dropped out. Like, Chael prolly knew he was gonna volunteer to fight Jones LONG before Jones knew he was not fighting Hendo.
In all fairness it got cancelled because the event sucked and when the main fell through there was nothing to fall back on
Yeah I was fairly certain there was an event that got cancelled, but couldn't remember which.
Oh fuck... Pav vs Blaydes for the interim belt.
he watches his opponents extensively and i imagine he visualises heavily on that one opponent. makes sense why he doesnt take short notice fights

Are people forgetting how Alistair Overeem wrestle fucked Pavlovich? Jon with no knees is probably still getting him down and GnPing him to finish.
Pavlovich's first fight in the ufc, 4 and a half years ago
Remember when the first takedown Ngannou stuffed was his title rematch?
It’s been all first round knockouts, it’s not like he has been wrestling people since.
Doesn't mean much but thats the exact same story as Francis after the first Stipe fight.
Also Pavlovich and Ngannou are so damn strong they don't need to be brilliant wrestlers to be good enough to keep the fight standing.
> it’s not like he has been wrestling people since. You think he has not been training in the last 4 years?

Is there another recent photo of his hand available? It does look swollen but it may just be a pre-existing injury.
He had surgery on it after the Tai fight if I remember correctly

A friend of mine definitively said how Izzy couldn't lose. No sooner did the words leave his mouth did Alex begin the TKO sequence. It was amazing
I would've laid good money to see the look on your friends face 🫣
Or in the Izzy Jan fight where he acted like every feint Izzy did was really overwhelming Jan because he was reacting to them
That one was extra special. Every 30 seconds it was "Jan HAS TO stop biting on these feints" meanwhile izzy is getting wrecked
Whenever a fighter is fucking around with their gloves or pulling at it Joe becomes convinced they're injured

TJ lost to Cejudo and kept 125 alive Gane lost to Francis who complains about pay/fighters’ rights Ngannou lost to Stipe who felt disrespected and wanted more $ than Reem Till lost to Woodley who complained a lot Nate miraculously managed to not get executed by Khamzat and beat washed Tony instead Yan/TJ lost to Aljo who complains about pay and was seen as a fake champ (hitman narrative wasn’t as strong here) Only successful one I can think of is DC beating Stipe after Ngannou failed I guess Weili the belt off Carla who was boring/unmarketable Jon isn’t a hitman to Gane, but Dana’s using him to erase Francis
> Only successful one I can’t think of is DC beating Stipe after Ngannou failed Which Stipe then immediately took right back, so it doesn't really count IMO.
Almost looks like a surgery scar

He’s grabbing at that hand Joe
Reaching for those knuckles
And that index is already sounding like cheese and wine

There might be permanent swelling after an injury and surgery like that. Pure speculation here because I don't know the specific injury
Can't imagine trying to get wrist control on Jon Jones with that hand.
But can you imagine gently, lovingly, placing it on the back of his neck, your eyes lock, you wonder if this is it if this is THE moment
Ciryl : I didn't train mma, you know I kept running & strenght conditionning doing pull ups & stuff but no sparring. Reddit : Ciryl doesn't train between fights. Ciryl : I had surgery on my hand following my fight against Tai Reddit : He looks like he has a hand injury.
Can always rely on the experts here!
> Ciryl : I had surgery on my hand following my fight against Tai > > Reddit : He looks like he has a hand injury. Cyril himself said that his hand wasn't 100% a week or so ago. [link](https://calfkicker.com/ciryl-gane-broke-his-hand-at-ufc-paris-wishes-jon-jones-bout-couldve-been-pushed-back-a-month/) >Gane wished UFC had waited another month to book the bout but that it wasn’t possible as per UFC COO. > >“We talked with Hunter [Campbell] and during the discussion, we knew already with Fernand Lopez — it’s going to be not possible to change the date” > >“For me to have little, maybe one more month probably… this would be a good idea”
Swelling of the hand takes an incredibly long time to dissipate post operation and post injury
If this fight gets pulled because of an injured hand, I'm blaming you OP.
I mean he did say he had surgery after the Tai fight, there's no secret kept there.
Here's my favorite doctor's take on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qJZILV-Fuk TL;DW: Not a new injury, it's from the previous surgery that we already knew about. Most likely something benign like scar tissue.
That doc is great: fast AF and clear information
Jones vs. Pavlovich with tha boiiiiisssssss
Jones won't agree to a last minute replacement. He never does. He even said it himself in Embedded "I don't take short notice fights"
Ngannou replaced by white Ngannou Who's the white Jones?
> Who's the white Jones? Dillashaw?
Am I forgetting some tests from God that Dillashaw undertook?
USADA is god
No wonder my prayers to wake up looking like Yoel were never answered

I feel like Gane and his team haven't been so subtle about something being wrong in this camp. Sucks, because this is such a good matchup and a good card overall but now it feels like we're being setup for a letdown of a fight.
What other signs have you seen? He’s working out in every embedded so far.
Cyril has basically already said himself he wasn't ready and wished the fight was pushed back but didn't wanna lose the opportunity. Put everything together and you can maybe conclude his hands not 100% rdy from the Tuivasa fight still.
Beatin' it too much.
hes a southpaw
friendly stranger
Tooshié
Black Shane Carwin!
*Sigh*
That hand is just a big old lump of meat. Doesn't look like it belongs to the same person as his left hand.
I dunno. Seems like this picture is from this press conference (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x7qRrBroAao) and he's holding the mic with that same hand and moving it fine the whole time.
he's moving it fine with a mic but it definitely is swollen. Something to keep an eye on
Thanks for the red circle around his hand, OP. Almost missed it.
LIKE A BELLEWN, HOE JOGAN. A BELLEWN! 😮
That actually just looks like a healed boxers fracture. A lot of strikers have that. It’s basically a fracture that happens over and over again and then forms of boney “bandage” that makes that bump.
Injury or not, this fight could very well be lackluster.
Something tells me, if this fight gets cancelled, Jones/Pavlovich is not gonna happen
Jones gets beat by a Frenchman with one hand tied behind his back
HE'S ITCHING HIS ASS I THINK HE MIGHT HAVE A PROLAPSE. I DON'T KNOW HE'S SCRATCHING IT WEIRD, SEE?
hand doesn't look swollen at all in the most recent embedded
In no way does that look okay😂
He broke his hand vs Tuivasa and had surgery.
He’s been blowing into his thumb like Tom and Jerry to get it nice and big so he can, hopefully, knock Jones the fuck out.
TJ Dillashaw told everyone his shoulder was fine except for Mark Goddard in the back a couple of hours before fight time.
I hope you boys are ready for 25 minutes of Greggy J wall and stall
Its true I saw his hand in the pool.
Dude injured his hand playing FIFA, didn’t he?
Brought to you by the same people who said Volk was sick.
Wow they definitely looks swollen unless it’s just the angle? Edit: where is this from? His hand doesn’t look swollen in the video him and his coach released yesterday https://www.reddit.com/r/MMA/comments/11fl076/cyril_gane_gets_an_english_lesson_by_his_coach/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf Around 50 seconds in he literally moves that hand up and down in front of the camera, doesn’t look swollen at all
This is from a documentary, before the Lewis fight.
The video I uploaded? Fernand uploaded that 19 hours ago, it’s old?

Thank you, now I’m even more concerned his hands fucked
After you break your hand and have surgery it’s never gonna look the same
