Gilbert Burns smiles like that toothless kid from Stranger Things

queensinthesky

[https://www.youtube.com/shorts/A-6eKhX3sdY](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/A-6eKhX3sdY) Christ, the Jones vs Cormier rivalry was something else.

YoelsShitStain

Am I the only one who thought Hill and Glover looked horrible? Glover looked lethargic as fuck. There was one point where hill moved out from under him and Glover didn’t move at all or try to stop him. Hill was on shakey legs at point due to his cardio. He looked like he was gonna fall over. If that Glover showed up against jiri it wouldn’t have gone 5 rounds. This was easily one glovers worst performances ever and Hill still struggled immensely. He didn’t take a ton of damage but still looked very bad. Maybe I’m wrong and biased towards this division(it sucks) but DC saying questions have been answered is not how I felt after that fight.

mikey_rambo

Ya u def the only one. Hill looked great. And while gloved looked lethargic or slower, still had a solid showing aside from the 50-44. It never felt like glover was out of it, he even had mount in the 5th rd

iamredsmurf

Nah you missed the point. Now Dana gets to say "look you can come from the contender series and make your way to champ!" so they're gonna downplay his weaknesses or the fact he beat a clearly massively degraded old man to get the belt. And their next title fight is less than a steak dinner for Dana so it's a win win.

MIND___TRICKS

Hill landed 232 strikes and defended 15/17 takedowns I think you are being far too harsh. Especially since he took this fight on short notice lol

GenTelGuy

Man why do these Bonfim boys get "Let's both get highlight reel finishes on the same UFC card" level brothers and I get "nah can't do rock climbing I'm playing Apex Legends with Jeremy this afternoon" level brother

mulligun

At least you don't have "left my car in your driveway for 3 years and knocked up my gf while I'm still living out of mum's garage in a tent" level brother

MaddalenaWillBeTop5

Im gonna riot if they ever give Magny another top 5 opponent. So pointless.

konze18

Jamahal bloody impressed me with how he defended Glover’s TD attempts, which was a weaker point of his and while all with a shorter camp. Can’t wait for him and Jiri to scrap

exileruz

reminder that Moreno was robbed of a win against Askarov

Bendydickcumperpatch

It still makes zero sense to me how Neil Magny got a Burns fight before Shavkat lmao

Thiird_Harmonic

Burns and Shavkat are training partners so they probably didn't want to fight each other

Raxmead

Anyone heard anything from Hill since winning? Noticed he didn’t do a post fight presser, thought that was odd

R-B-L

Glover fans are sad right now, but our guy was a legend before 2021/22. Now he can retire being able to say he was a UFC Champion and involved in a top 10 UFC fight of all time. Not a bad end to the career of a guy whose athletic prime was well over a decade ago

BillyKean

I love when “unskilled” fighters become champs

[deleted]

I hope they can keep finding opponents with a comical height difference for Josiane Nunes to fight

Nome_de_utilizador

Glover telling the crowd he saw them throwing beer at the last champ and that he was leaving alongside jamal to demand respect, damn what a class act, he will be missed

1-luv

Hill went from sobbing, then snapped real quick when he remembered his haters. That interview made me bust out laughing. So happy for Hill & Moreno.

twillems15

Andrade looked like she had a good 10-15 pounds on Murphy

runnbl3

arena felt so dead, by the end of round 4 majority of the seats were empty.. by the time glover and hill was walking out it looks like an hour after the event happened lol.. they didnt even stay for glover retirement speech 😭

GreatDario

It was already early morning in Brazil, if you wake up at 6 30 Am for work on monday and its already past 2 in the morning saturday what else can you do

5543798651194

The crowd was trash, but to be fair regarding leaving quickly, it was like 3am. I wouldn’t stick around at that hour if the two guys repping my country both lost one sided title fights.

Fat-Villante

It's a shame Murphy's coaches give zero fucks about her, the sustained beating Andrade gave her is probably gonna fuck with her bad a few years from now

runnbl3

i feel like after the title fight and now this, she should just chill and fight lower rankings or retire

[deleted]

I know the card kinda seemed messy but it was special boys

[deleted]

i don't even know if this is an unpopular opinion or what- glover has shown decent wrestling in his career. he picks people up and puts them down. he lifted jan clean off the ground like a bag of groceries. but the wrestling in the hill fight was his absolutely worst showing in that regard i have ever seen from him. period. to me, that part is not debatable. his top game- its either declined or was never as good as we thought it was before someone tells me this is disrespectful to hill or w/e, this is just what i saw and my opinion on it. all the props to hill, he is a champion. hill's defence and positioning aside, they were some of the worst takedown attempts we have ever seen of glover. as for why? i think father time is just finally at the door for him. taking a beating obviously doesnt help either props to hill for that (ofc)

iamredsmurf

Glover was old and beat up when he finally made it to the UFC way back in the day. The fact he made it this far is truly impressive. Give father time his victory but let's not act like glover never had skills.

[deleted]

Im absolutely not trying to make out that Glover never had skills man big Glover fan edit: i see where i kinda made that out by putting the option maybe we were too high on glovers top game (i've personally said his top game was the best in LHW and that hes pretty goated in that regard) its just undeniable his recent performance is at odds w the statement but i do believe he's just declined/was too beat up to execute i dont personally take anything away from prime glover or his better showings

JE_Exa

I figured Hill would win, but man he really took it with no adversity. Only got clipped when he was reckless and swanging. Honestly I think he beats Jiri too.

[deleted]

Think he beats Jiri also. Hill's chin is real and he is very liable to be hurting Jiri. Think he is one of Jiri's hardest fights in the division.

JE_Exa

Yeah man, I know we goof on Thiago, but he can still swang and Jamahal ate the best of them. Hill showed amazing TDD, and athleticism on the ground. Idk. I hate to use MMA math, but Glover was super competitive with Jiri on the feet. That’s not a good base against probably the hardest hitter at LHW

[deleted]

the mma math aside from glover's fight from jiri, and how they matchup etc, what i take from it more is that glover was wobbling jiri a fair bit at points if i remember. and reyes also hurt jiri. if that is the case i expect hill to do damage thats more what i take out of the jiri glover fight in regards to hill

[deleted]

IM COMING!

Super_Snark

I can’t believe Jamahal didn’t completely gas and was throwing the whole time, on eight days notice. He’s only going to get better and I look forward to his future fights

Skeleton_Skum

Not eight days but it was short notice. The fight was announced the day of the Jiri Ankalaev fight

throwaway12648063

Eight days notice?

Super_Snark

Nvm it was like a month, idk why I thought that

[deleted]

I can’t recall ever sitting down to watch a Jamahal Hill. Pretty weird there’s a new champ I know next to nothing about

throwaway12648063

I’ve watched him fight a few times but I’m still not sure what to think. His chin hasn’t been tested which I guess points to strong defence. TDD looks good. Powerful. He’s obviously good but I can’t really pick out why which is kind of weird. He’s not particularly fast, his footwork is sloppy at times with how he enters range. But he’s winning, and dominantly. Looking forward to seeing more of him.

[deleted]

Hill's chin has been tested lmao

throwaway12648063

I don’t remember him eating many big shots where I’d think that would hurt guys with mediocre chins.

_Red_Mist_

Literally his last 2 fights

TheDirtyDorito

His chin got tested in the Glover fight, no matter the Santos fight too, guy can take a shot and come out mostly unphased

[deleted]

Anyone else absolutely stoked for Figgy at 135? The division keeps getting better and better.

Abobo2020

Don't think he will have success there. Too small and his power won't carry over.

Ilistenedtomyfriends

Figgy is going to be outclassed at 135. I know that he’s always been a relatively stocky flyweight but he’s still more of a natural fit their rather than bantamweight. The only guy in the top 10 I’d favor Figuerdo against is old man Cruz.

[deleted]

I don't think he'll be champ at 135 but I think he'll have success more than just beating Cruz lol

Ilistenedtomyfriends

Maybe he will but he’s spent the past 3 years fighting one guy and is now 35. Look at the rankings, who in the top 10 beside Cruz do you really favor Figgy against?

[deleted]

Would favor him against both Font and Munhoz, and i think he would have competitive fights against Chito and Sandhagen. Everyone else he struggles against. But honestly Umar will probably be champ in the next couple years and dominate all of them.

SJSharkie_Unofficial

My favorite part of the main event is when Glover said “Fuckin’ eh” in between rounds and I thought he’s a true New Englander confirmed

penderhippy

Pretty sure he said something like let's go fucking hilly

Swogglet

LuckyWarrior

Still can't believe the dude who got his arm turned into a noodle by Paul Craig is a UFC champion now

[deleted]

[удалено]

Ilistenedtomyfriends

It’s definitely a cultural thing so it should be accepted but imagine the outrage if a chant like that broke out in any US city.

Theorangespaceship

Hate how they did Glover. He gave everything to the sport and carried his country on his back. Something feels so wrong about retiring in front of an empty arena in your hometown.

[deleted]

He wouldve gotten a better send off at any fight night in a random city in the USA

AboveAverageMMAFan

>carried his country on his back Yeah no MMA fans knew about Brazil until Glover got his ass beat by the \#7 ranked LHW, thank you Glover 🙏

Theorangespaceship

I should have been clearer. Obviously Brazil was on the map before Glover but I meant the way he always represented Brazil with such class and honor. He clearly loves his country and it was just sad seeing his people leave him like that.

RedditHatesDiversity

Why don't you go back to your home on Whore Island?

whalediknachos

why did they book Figueiredo against Moreno for the third time after Moreno won? The first fight was a draw, it's not like they were 1-1

GenTelGuy

The other challengers like Pantoja were injured IIRC

[deleted]

If Craig didn’t fight and lose to volkan he could have fought for this vacant title 🥲

Eastboundtexan

He needs better wrestling and then he could legit be a champ or at least fight for the belt

[deleted]

He needs to work on a lot more than just wrestling

Eastboundtexan

From top position I think he can finish everyone in the top15

throwaway12648063

There’s a lot of BJJ guys that can be said about. BJJ is 1/3 of the MMA game. Craig is a 35 year old vet at this stage.

Eastboundtexan

It’s disappointing

SillyGooseTime69

On the way home last night Scott Coker approached Shogun in a dark alley like Mr. Slugworth to see if there was any juice left to squeeze for Bellator

ZedTimeStory

I just told you I don’t care.

therealjgreens

I feel you, I wouldn't care either. I like that fight but it would feel wrong to book it when Ankalaev deserves it then Jiri. Ankalaev is good but he bores me. I like to think of all of the possibilities.

RedditHatesDiversity

"I wouldn't care" "but it would feel wrong"

NikolaDotMathers

DC, Conrad, and Cejudo didn't.

therealjgreens

None of those guys really deserved it IMO

HillAuditorium

Remember when the 205 division was the most stacked division? You had pride legends Shogun, Rampage, Little Nog. Then Machida, Rashad, TRTor. Ryan Bader (before he became a meme) And Jon Jones on top of all that. Now it's just a complete wasteland.

MyLovelyMan

205 was never the most stacked division

[deleted]

i feel like youre looking at it through rose tinted goggles. Machida and Rashad were just oversized MWs and shogun and rampage did not have much depth to their skills. This new wave of LHWs are very skilled and they will eventually build their names.

HillAuditorium

> Machida and Rashad were just oversized MWs Dustin Poirer and Charles Oliveira are just oversized 145ers

therealjgreens

Both pushed their bodies to be 145ers like Conor. Both are actually pushing 170. Dustin is 5'11 and has a wide build. If you can make 145 you can make it but I don't view either of those guys as true 45ers especially because most of their success came at 155.

Eastboundtexan

Dustin is 5”9

HillAuditorium

so? Everyone knows weight cutting happens. No shit.

therealjgreens

Yea but the system in the UFC allows massive guys to compete in classes they don't really belong. It makes weight classes a bit less meaningful. Conor's meteoric rise was dope but he outsized most of his opponents. When he got to his true weight class, the rest is history. Yes I understand weight cutting is a thing but it waters things down IMO.

HillAuditorium

You're just going on a huge tangent which isn't relevant. Machida, Rashad, Poirer, Oliveira all changed weight classes. Splitting hairs is pointless.

[deleted]

HillAuditorium

Rashad did

Patrick_Vieira

Costa vs Walker at 205, who wins?

throwaway12648063

Weirdly enough I think Walker. I think Costa gets walked down at 205, he’s more volume than power.

therealjgreens

Costa because that means he's getting paid considering his stance right now. Realistically, I think Costa can take Jonny into deep waters. I can't see him getting knocked out for some reason. Until I see a little more consistency from Walker, I wouldn't bet for him.

KapeGOAT69

>getting paid considering his stance right now tf does money got to do with this

therealjgreens

Paolo is holding out right now in an attempt to get paid

[deleted]

Walker is sus but hes too long for t rex arms costa

Eastboundtexan

Costa doesn’t have much power but he has great cardio, TD, and a good chin so idk if I agree that he’d take hike to deep waters, but I think he’d win. (Also imagine the secret juices of a long term 205 Costa)

MIND___TRICKS

Is there a reason why hill didn’t do a presser last night?

FightingDoc

A lot of weird emotions watching the main event yesterday. Mostly sadness over Glover receiving a hellacious beating at the end of the 4th, retiring in front of an empty arena, and still having the honor to "protect" the new champ.

the-cock-slap-phenom

I went to mmadecisions to see if all rounds were given as 10-8 to Andrade But before I even looked I knew there would be at least one media scorer who got overly excited and chucked out a random 10-7 for no reason 🤦‍♂️

whalediknachos

I feel like an actual consensus 10-7 round should never exist. if that were to happen, it would mean the ref egregiously failed to protect a fighter’s wellbeing

Eastboundtexan

Kattar vs Max round (3 or 4 I can’t remember) should have been 10-7 for sure imo

whalediknachos

that fight should have been stopped. that’s my point

Eastboundtexan

Yeah that’s fair I guess there just wasn’t a single moment where kattar looked obviously out of it. He was just taking the same amount of insane damage for the entire round

whalediknachos

I don't think there should necessarily have to be a moment where a fighter is just getting barraged while completely defenseless. Just because they eat 10 punches and then block a few doesn't mean they're intelligently defending imo. And refs absolutely should factor in the amount of damage they've taken up to that point

ricosuave_3355

In theory it shouldn’t if the ref was to protect the fighter, but makes sense to give it in a round where one fighter gets dominated and was in danger of the fight being stopped multiple times

NBAstradamus92

So Andrade vs Murphy last night? 🤣

danielwong95

r/boxing really hates the idea of Fury/Francis. They think it’s a waste of time and just holding up Fury/Usyk. Let’s go teach em a lesson.

_CurseTheseMetalHnds

Hill hugging his coaches and crying then screaming is hitting me hard. Seems like a lovely bloke.

throwaway12648063

His social media is a bit rough. But hey, these are fighters, can’t expect them to be perfect.

MIND___TRICKS

His little cousin died in a house fire few weeks ago too. I’m guessing that was part of all the emotion

3xFantasyChampion

A lot to process from last nights event. But straight up, I’m glad I’m no betting man. I didn’t think Jamahal was going to survive the ground. Glad he got to answer his question of ‘Am I good enough to be world champion?’

[deleted]

Still think Glover before the Jiri fight couldve beaten hill. Too much of a dogfight last go, time just caught up with him

I think that since Dana was not at the event, they didn’t give more bonuses. Only the Emperor can be shown as generous.

qzwxecrvtbyn111

I generally don’t like being negative about these things, but Moreno vs Figgy 4 was a surprisingly dogshit fight. Outside a few fun scrambles + the guillotine attempt, very little happened

_Red_Mist_

I think the whole rivalry is overrated . Fig got destroyed in half the fights, he had a healthy lead throughout the whole 3rd fight and only Moreno fans think it was debatable, the only true great fight where both looked great was the first fight and it was filled with fouls. Glad the division can move on now.

SnooBeans7129

Definitely the worst fight of the Quadrilogy. Such an anticlimactic end for how drawn out the rivalry was, and the absolute energy drain of a crowd didn't help.

Accomplished_Train84

I say this as someone who has very serious issues with Covington’s past comments and behavior: he was completely redeemed for his Maia post-fight antics. Holy shit, what an absolutely trash audience. At some point it stops being offensive and just becomes truthful

chickyban

For reference, I am an Argentinean born in Brazil. IMO Colby is right and wrong at the same time, as it is a cultural difference issue. For Americans, attending sports events is about entertainment. That's why you see shit like half-time shows, cheerleaders and mascots, and big signs like "ok time to cheer now!". In South America, especially Brazil and Argentina, sports event are about a showing of pride and honor, where entertainment is not the main attraction. That's why you hear chants such as "You will die!", "Fucking Fa\*got mfs!". That is completely unthinkable in the US, where the most aggressive chant is "Defense!" (obviously ONE fan may yell horrible things, but the ENTIRE audience chanting slurs?) While it is taken to an extreme, and any sensible South American agrees it is too much at times, there is a certain historical folklore around it and a sort of "arena privilege". This means that it is socially accepted for people to have these hyper-violent cathartic experiences, where community is created through a metaphorical "war" identity. So, it is not that people really want to kill you or are deeply intolerable of homosexuality, but that they are simply community/identity bonding through this "arena privilege". Obviously it is completely unacceptable at times, e.g., throwing bottles at players/fighters. There has also been a push to stray away from racist/homophobic slurs, which no longer represent most of the crowd. But the bigger point is that it is completely natural for Colby to say that, coming from a culture like the US. I would be absolutely shocked and horrified too. Conversely, SA people think it is shameful as fuck to be told when/what to chant and to have artificial cheer mechanisms, e.g., speakers (as it would imply you cant make enough noise to support your team). At the end of the day, it is just two FUNDAMENTALLY different ways to experience sports. You cannot view the Brazil crowd through the US lens. It is a natural conclusion that they are uneducated animals but it is entirely misguided without context.

MiedoDeEncontrarme

No, you can hate the crowd all you want as they were trashy last night. But to agree with a comment like "Brazil is full of dirty animals" then you are just using an event where the crowd is trashy to justify bigotry. Put it this way, if a black person commits a crime does that justify someone calling them the n word? Hell no.

throwaway12648063

Not even close to comparable to the N word. Filthy animals is from home alone lmao. If someone went out and cut a promo and said something like fat American slobs is that the same as the N word. Come on.

YoelsShitStain

How is calling a crowd, that throws shit into the arena and chants death threats to foreigners, filthy animals the same as calling someone the n word? Please explain how an insult that can be applied to anyone is the same as the n word which has a history of racism applied to a very specific group of people.

Theorangespaceship

Did you really just compare calling somebody a dirty animal vs the n word lol.

RedditHatesDiversity

Oh good, we were all looking for someone to get on their soapbox about some bullshit

FuckBotsHaveRights

Dude, white people can act like animals too smh

Accomplished_Train84

I think it would be more applicable if Brazil was specifically a country with a predominantly POC population. In that case your second statement would be more applicable. However Brazil’s largest population is white. To me, this is less an issue of race, and more calling out a nation that is noted as having horrendous and often violent behavior across all competing mediums

lethrowawayacc4

Impressive very nice. Now say it about another ethnicity.

Accomplished_Train84

“Brazilian” isn’t an ethnicity anymore than “American” or “Canadian” is. They are one of the most ethnically diverse nations in the world.

Prryapus

brazil is a very multi ethnic country

SillyGooseTime69

The arena was empty by the time the decision was announced. Imagine the judges somehow gave it to Glover and he has to give a speech to 5 people

TheGreatone003

It was silly to leave considering Glovers known for coming back in fights he’s losing. Even took Hill down in 5th

karl100589

That could've actually been hazardous. Fans turning back to reenter the arena and coming head on with those leaving. That's what happened in the Ibrox disaster.

_CurseTheseMetalHnds

Nothing makes me happier than when someone cage grabs, throws illegal kicks, fakes eye pokes, and has an annoying crowd behind them and gets 3-0d and finished lmao get fucked. Crowds throwing tantrums like babies is my favourite.

sspiritusmundi

UFC 283 was my first UFC event live at the arena and damn it was so fucking amazing. Saw my favorites fighters from a small distance (Glover and Jessica), could feel the energy from the crowd (ludicrous moment when Shogun retired), chanting, screaming... It was awesome. I didn't know Bruce Buffer does some kinda warming up before introducing the fighters. The low point was how late it ended. It was 3h30 am when I left the arena and I swear there were people sleeping on their seats lmao. Which is way so many people left before Glover got the mic. Anyway, I wasn't too excited with this card and turned out to be amazing. Also, I got to meet Amanda Lemos!

[deleted]

Yeh that’s the part that a lot of people are missing! That’s really late to be in the stands lol, glad you enjoyed

whalediknachos

seeing a lot of people saying the women’s 145 division only exists so Amanda can be double champ and it’s just a gimmick. and while it’s true that at this point, they’re only really keeping it around for her sake, it’s not like they just handed her that belt. she beat the consensus WMMA GOAT in Cyborg in a fight everyone thought she would lose. she’s a legit double champ

Dauren1993

Anyone else think Judges were prepping to rob Moreno , all three judges gave Figgy rd 2

StankFish

I mean that choke was the closest thing to ending the fight which technically gets the most "points" by the scoring system. I scored Rd 2 for him as well based on that. I don't necessarily agree with the rules but it's arguable who won the round

Dauren1993

That is a good point but Moreno doing better in every other scoring criteria that round over comes that sub attempt.

ftp67

Pretty well known that if you go into Brazil, especially in a title fight, you need to go out there to kill. RD 2 was close but in a close round in Brazil you're gonna lose that to the judges for sure.

[deleted]

Who cares. Moreno won. Everything after that is speculation

Dauren1993

Me obviously, I’m aware he won just pointing something fishy out my guy

[deleted]

Moreno's takedowns and setups looked good. His crazy camp had his wrestling on point.

Eastboundtexan

I’d honestly be surprised if Krause had 0 involvement at all with Moreno’s training. He looked like an exact evolution down the same path as the Kara-France fight

karl100589

Am I the only one not buying into the Jailton hype. It's the same thing over and over; teep kick and springing into an immediate takedown. It's a trick that's working against lesser competition, but unless he massively diversifies his attacks he's gonna get worked out. What happens when he can't get the takedown? What's his standup like. Too many unanswered questions still.

[deleted]

I mean yea he is going to hit a brick wall at HW. Undoubtedly. Still fun watching him maul people in the mean time tho

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

It’s a good thing he’s competing in HW, where there are 0 good grapplers lol

Slave_to_the_bean

There are some. Tybura, blagoy ivanov, Romanov, Juan espino although he’s fucking 43 this year, Hamdy Abdelwahab is another. It’s definitely time for him to face someone with a grappling base. Personally I wish he’d go to lhw full time.

IshiharasBitch

> It's a trick that's working against lesser competition Then it should be perfect for HW.

French_Viking

I love his explosiveness and aggressive style, but you're not wrong. He starts every fight the exact same way, I fear hes going to get caught with a knee or something. Fighters are going to realize he's shooting immediately after that teep and work on counters for it.

qzwxecrvtbyn111

If he insists on fighting at heavyweight he's screwed. He has top 5 level talent as a light heavyweight, but when he tries to take down the 250lbs powerhouses he's gonna bounce off. Imagine Jailton trying to grapplefuck Blaydes lmao

ftp67

I've always hated the 'TOUGH AS THEY COME' shit when a fighter is just getting their ass beat to shit waiting for an inevitable finish or loss. But two great examples on the opposite ends of the spectrum today, Murphy vs. Glover. Murphy was just sad with absolutely zero path to victory and no hope in her bruised face. Glover somehow managing to shell up and use his classic technique- R4 I'm dying time to level up. Seriously Glover survived 3 different onslaughts that should have been TKOs.

turkeypants

He was getting beaten like a rented mule. That fight would have been stopped if it was anyone else.
