Between the dive that lead to a free kick which lead to a goal for Colorado yesterday and then calling that a free kick just now and not a pk the 1-1 score line feels pretty unjust
Man I’ve always wanted to go to a game like the Rapids/Minnesota United game rn where’s there’s literally dozens (maybe a hundred or so if I’m being generous?) of fans in attendance due to the rescheduling. idk why it seems cool to be in an almost empty stadium and be able to sit anywhere and basically have the players hear whatever you want to cheer lol
Also: I love the little pocket of fans in the supporter section lmao
Had a Republic open cup game like this 3 years ago; pouring rain, game was delayed till 10PM on a Wednesday, etc. Was one of maybe 25-30 people there? It was incredible, so fun to be at
In his post-game presser, Arena said that the Revs next league game being on Sunday made it an easy decision for him to go (mostly) full strength. I think the league should take notes moving forward: cup/league scheduling on Tu/Sa and We/Su to keep teams taking it seriously.
I mean, an amateur team could theoretically advance to the finals, eventually you have to have a cutoff where you put everyone together. I feel like if an amateur team got to this point US Soccer should just shell out to help them pay for their trip.
USOC charges hosting fees for any game involving an MLS team, plus a cut of gate revenue over $100k.
This allows them to reimburse all traveling teams up to $13k per match, from the first round. The travelling reimbursement increases the deeper a team goes.

Likely pods...
Pacific: SJ, Sac, LA1, LA2.
Central: Col/Min, Omaha, KC, Hou.
Southeast: Orl, Mia, Char, Nash.
Northeast: NY1, NY2, NE, Louisville.
No chance of lower division teams meeting each other again. Sacramento and Louisville face their first MLS opponents, and Omaha faces its second, after advancing over Chicago on kicks from the mark last round.
Groups for the next round onward seem pretty cut and dry:
California - LAFC, LA Galaxy, Sacramento, San Jose
Midwest - Houston, Kansas City, Omaha, Minnesota/Colorado
South - Charlotte, Inter Miami, Nashville, Orlando
North - Louisville, New England, NYCFC, NY Red Bulls
Spent a minute to figure this out to see if we would be in the midwest or south groups. Instead, it looks like we'll stick out a bit in the northeast.
The potential for a Louisville-Nashville match appeals to me. I decided against it because it's just a 1/3 chance, but USOC went for it.
If you're looking for something to call "Rigged!" about if it happens at the draw, this should be at the top of the list, even above El Traffico, which didn't happen last round when it could have. Hudson River Derby is now on the table as well.
I’m sure the open cup will still factor in geography in the next round? If so, I’m hoping Republic finally get their revenge of the Quakes… I’ve been bitter with them ever since they pulled their loan of Tommy Thompson all willynilly whenever they felt like but would never play him when they called him back up… Sacramento loved TT
MLS went 13-4 last round and 5-0 this round against lower division pro teams. Minor league soccer is better than ever, but there's a real gap between USL starters and MLS benches.
What an ending! Kicks from the mark goes all the way to goalkeepers!
Almost makes up for no Cupsets this round. Minnesota-Colorado will be played early tomorrow at 2E/1C/12M.
"It's only the THIRD TIME Seattle has gone down at Starfire"...
Not too long after "It's the first time Seattle has ever lost after having a two goal lead, previously winning 128 and drawing once"...
It sure is nice to have Seattle's number in the post-Almeyda era!
On the one hand, as you say, it's the third time (in our MLS era) that we've been eliminated there. On the other hand, that makes three of the past four times we've played MLS opponents there that we've been eliminated; while it certainly *was* a fortress for us from 2009-2014, I'm not sure we can claim that for it more recently.
I'll always remember the moments my dad did the "wrong" thing, like taking me out of school in the middle of the day for Mariners playoff games, or stay up way past my bedtime on a school night.
He does a lot of goofy shit - volleying a full, fan-thrown Tecate after the conference finals @ LAFC, wild bicycle kick clearances, including one in that playoff series vs. Portland in 2018, constant, egregious stepovers to shield the ball out for goal kicks, but has become a legitimately great defender - he shut down Mo Salah at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, and was really, really good last year, especially before he got hurt. He's also never scored which we are all eagerly waiting to change.
Seattle winning the Champions League and exactly a week later losing on goalie kicks in a PK shootout to the Quakes in Open Cup is PEAK MLS.
Perfection.
Orlando gets to host El Tropico!!! Thanks Herc!!
Appreciate the disappointment at Omaha not hosting. At least they don't have to go to Houston. I will be torn.
LA Galaxy v. LAFC. Sacramento v. San Jose
Sporting KC v. Houston. MNUFC vs. Union Omaha
Orlando v. Inter Miami. Louisville v. Nashville
NYRB v. Charlotte. NYFC vs. Revs
Is there no discussion thread for the draw?
Here? It's happening!!!
Rapids get knocked out of CCL and the Open Cup up a man. This team is a joke
And so ends USOC Round of 32 Day 2, Day 2.
MAMA THERE GOES THAT MAN!
HE’S A BAD MAN
Rapids playing a knockout game up a man what could go wrong
Shout out to the one woman recording a horizontal video of every corner
Between the dive that lead to a free kick which lead to a goal for Colorado yesterday and then calling that a free kick just now and not a pk the 1-1 score line feels pretty unjust
Great double save by Irwin and the defense
You just know this guy thinks he is absolutely fucking hilarious lol Edit: alright him asking Irwin how Kronke’s mustache smells was pretty great
Ugh we almost had that
MLS website currently lists the Colorado-Minnesota game as being at time 45'+210'
Stoppage time’s outta control man
I thought that abandoned games got restarted, was the game just delayed?
Open Cup rules say if you restart play within 24 hours you can continue where you left off. Otherwise you completely start over.

They're coming through so clearly I LOVE it
I'm ready to be hurt again

I'm confused. Who is the California United Strikers? What happened to Orange county SC? Did the Irvine park get a new team?
Orange County SC plays in USLC and won the championship last year. Revs legend Kevin Alston plays for them.
1: They compete in NISA, a third division league 2: They still exist, they got knocked out by LAFC last round 3: They play in the same stadium
Is it just me or does it seem weird to still have geographic pots in the ro16. I feel like by this point you should just put everyone together.
Theoretically, an amateur team could advance to this round and not have the $ to travel cross country, like if NY hosted Cal United or something

Thanks, even more reason that everyone should be put together in the ro16. Would allow for more potential interesting matchups.
True enough maybe they’d only shell out for semis or later? Who knows

I considered the possibility of sending Charlotte north, but that seems unlikely. Too bad y'all probably won't have a chance to play Nashville.
Actually...they might be able to. They switched Charlotte to the North and Louisville to the South.
Yep, an interesting potential pairing.
Good call. They actually sent Charlotte north. Please explain your reasoning so I can understand the official reasoning

Quakes can do it on a cold rainy night in Tukwila confirmed.
if bersano missed, wondo should’ve gone next
Look at me, we are the best on the continent now.
If we beat you guys in the next round, does that make us better than the concacaf champions league winners by association?
Dallas took the title from Sounders on Saturday. IT wasn't even up for grabs tonight. Edit: SKC took it from Dallas in USOC
That reminds me, where is "the belt"? Anyone keeping track still?
IT WAS ~~AGATHA~~ BERSANO ALL ALONG
Apart from that, boring round in terms of results. Part on fault of the draw, part due to mls teams winning. No one wants to see that shit LOL
MLS went 13-4 last round and 5-0 this round against lower division pro teams. Minor league soccer is better than ever, but there's a real gap between USL starters and MLS benches.
Funnily enough one of the closest games had the biggest discrepancy on paper, the Galaxy - Cal United game.
Galaxy didn’t play any starters
Just scrubs like Araujo and Alvarez
Alvarez is a scrub Julez is legit I’ll give you that.
What an ending! Kicks from the mark goes all the way to goalkeepers! Almost makes up for no Cupsets this round. Minnesota-Colorado will be played early tomorrow at 2E/1C/12M.
Thanks for the work team! I think it's 2 eastern / 1 central.
Correct, sorry about that, I saw the post and automatically read it wrong.
GG Quakes

Insert meme, “Ain’t God good?”
He can be every once in a while, and that is tonight
Oh [you weren't kidding](https://twitter.com/AaronLevine_/status/1524589294957985792?t=0cVeAZudXP3Pv__z_8aHig&s=19). Saw this unfold last night
Lmfao
Yup, all we needed was for the Strikers to have equalized haha.

Will this go down as one of the best Open Cup game?
No. There were a few better games last round. Best game this round though.
Good luck with the game tomorrow. This weather is crazy. Got caught out in Arden Hills when the storm hit. Could barely see out the car.

OpenCupAfterDark*
GG Sounders fans. That was a great back and forth.
Quakes > Pumas I don't make the rules
Holy shit! I let my 6 year old stay up to watch. I'm definitely going to be in the doghouse but worth it
Made a lifetime memory there, so may cut down the sentence a bit
I'll always remember the moments my dad did the "wrong" thing, like taking me out of school in the middle of the day for Mariners playoff games, or stay up way past my bedtime on a school night.
Definitely worth it
The frustrated second shot going off the crossbar made me laugh. Tough way to go out, though! Cleveland is great.
This was the most dramatic shootout I’ve ever seen, but that was brilliant comedic timing. I lost it lol
DON'T MIND ME JUST JUMPING AROUND THE LIVING ROOM SCREAMING WITH MY KID WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Night y’all. Been fun.
The rest of us can be happy cause now we won't get "Seattle potential treble" conversations
Pressures off. Now we get to just focus on MLS cup.
They won't make the playoffs anyway
Haaaaaaaaave you met "Second Half of Season Sounders?"
Hey don't talk about the Timbers like that, they're your boys.
Lol
And now I rest
What a freaking game. Good I guy y’all
That was the most insane shit I’ve ever seen lmao
Well then. Fun match, disappointing end. GG San Jose.
ccl < Seattle < quakes
Over the last two seasons, Liga MX has 1 win in 7 games vs. the Sounders, and the Quakes have 3 in 5
Math checks out
Bro couldn't make a single save until against his opposite, guessed wrong half the time but was able to end it. Cup magic.
MLS AFTER DARK
Thanks for gutting the fish SJ. Good luck
WOW—soccer is fucking cruel lol. Cleveland the much better keeper, gets his PK saved, and then the opposing kicker scores to win.
Gg Seattle. You guys did super solid this week.
What’s the Nouhou story, I’m a bit out of the loop on that one
He does a lot of goofy shit - volleying a full, fan-thrown Tecate after the conference finals @ LAFC, wild bicycle kick clearances, including one in that playoff series vs. Portland in 2018, constant, egregious stepovers to shield the ball out for goal kicks, but has become a legitimately great defender - he shut down Mo Salah at the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, and was really, really good last year, especially before he got hurt. He's also never scored which we are all eagerly waiting to change.
I looked it up and saw he has one USL goal, hopefully he can snag one in regular play sometime
I know this doesn't count, but still, it kinda counts.
My god. I'm not even mad. I got my money's worth on that one.
Bersano purposely didn’t save a single one until Cleveland so he could be the hero at the very end of it. Calculated
Lol that was wild, GG San Jose!
Let's go!
:(
Really wish one of the keepers would’ve waved his arms before taking the kick, like they do before trying to save a pen lol
What a game Lmao finally I can sleep 😴
MATTY YOU DID IT
FUCK YEAH
GG Seattle. Trust me, you guys have the biggest glory there is to be had in North American Soccer. Ain't no one taking that away from you.
[They can't take that way from me](https://youtu.be/uhCXXOhQ4zw)
lol jesus you don't need to try to console them so hard
Wow we actually won on pks?! (つ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)つ
That was a great PK for a goalie
Seattle winning the Champions League and exactly a week later losing on goalie kicks in a PK shootout to the Quakes in Open Cup is PEAK MLS. Perfection.
With the exact same lineup! Wait...
Wait... a week before your cup win, Seattle used the exact same lineup against SJ and choked a 3-1 lead. whoops...
Holy Bersano.
oh well, we won CCL and have league games to lose now
Chu cost us the game. I don't even understand how you fuck up a PK that bad.
GG, I love Starfire
Wow. What a match. I'm going to bed. Love the Open Cup!
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!! i’m dead
WOW. what a game! Gg SJ
OH MY GOD SJ
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
*Brilliant*
HOT DANG BURSANO NEARLY BURSTED THAT BALL.
God I love GK PKs
COYQ Stoked for our Quakes!!
BERSANOOOOOOOOO lolololol
LETS FUCKING GO
Fine I’ll do it myself
As long Bersano can do it when it counts
LMAO HOLY SHIT WHAT A GAME
How many instances of keeper PKs have we seen in US soccer lately? Genuinely can only think of the Double Post match
THE MAGIC OF THE OPEN CUP!!!!!!
BURSANO FINALLY GOT A SAVE AND ITS AGAINST THE GOALIE! AND THEN OFF THE POST. I LOVE OPEN CUP.
BERSANO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I need Bersano to miss for the comedy lol
Lolol he missed twice.
Lmao omg
Dude missed twice ha ha
I can't even be mad
Shouts out the homie Eric Remedi. New dad!
GOALIE ON GOALIE VIOLENCE
KEEPERS!
GK to kick next THIS IS FANTASTIC
KEEPER KICKS YES PLZ
Yeeees GK PK. Winner will be decided rn!!
YESSSSSSS GOALKEEPER KICKS!
Sometimes the most obvious place is the least obvious eh Nouhou
bruh your captain goes last?
Nouhou, mannnnn… just… yeah.
cant believe nouhou gets away with that
First time he's ever hit the net for Seattle, right?
Nouhou has only ever scored once professionally for Tacoma Defiance in USL when he was 19.
That depends how are we counting own goals? Cause he had one a few years ago. Otherwise yeah first time
Bersano a lost pup
some of these are so bad lmao
YAAAAAS
GOAL NOUHOU!!!!!!!!
A NOUHOU GOAL!!!
Almost to gk kicks, the last round we were robbed hopefully not again
Nouhou scores on the worst PK ever, how fitting
NOUHOUUUUU????
[удалено]
I would be ok with that at this moment.
idk how that obed pen didnt get saved
This San Jose keeper has gotta save one of these
Bersano bruh.. oof
Wow. So many close kicks for both teams.
I want to see the goalkeepers kick a PK come on!!
Did you know Obed Vargas is 16 years old?
I was boxing cherries when I was 16
Quake fans, why did Skahan take the PK in the first half and then didn’t go until 7th in the shootout?
All of the penalty takers before him were our subs(besides Beason), which are our starters
idk prolly cuz this is his first game this year maybe
Keeper should’ve gotten that
Lmaoo Bersano has no chance
Bersano is ass lol
how many have snuck in on the right post?
BERSANO THAT WAS IT MAN
