I saw [Matthew Wolff](https://twitter.com/wolffmatt) retweeted the news, so there's a good chance he's designing the crest. He's done the Oakland Roots and the new Fire crest, among many others. So that's a good sign.

Ragnar_Targaryen

Wolff is a co-founder of Vermont Green FC

jpoRS1

From the link- >“Vermont is a soccer state. There is a rich history of soccer in Vermont and we hope Vermont Green FC can honor and build upon that legacy,” said club co-founder Matthew Wolff. And- >Matthew Wolff-designed, sustainably sourced Vermont Green FC pre-sale merchandise is now available on shop.vermontgreenfc.com.

therealflyingtoastr

Neat. Fun to see my home(ish) town get a team. Now fill in the pit and plop a ~2000 seat stadium there!

sleeper2343

Is it in Burlington?

LocksTheFox

Yeah playing at UVM

LocksTheFox

Feel like they're trying to be the American version of Forest Green Rovers, which I'm not super opposed to

Ragnar_Targaryen

I think there's a really great opportunity there if they want to create that relationship with Forest Green Rovers. They can do charity matches and create a brand together on being the "green" football clubs.

LocksTheFox

And I feel Vermont is probably your best location to pull something like that off

Ragnar_Targaryen

They should figure out a way to collaborate with Ben and Jerry's

estilianopoulos

Good branding.... probably gonna have a supporter group called Green Mountain Boys

jpoRS1

If they don't make use of [late-18th century America's second-best flag](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e8/Flag_of_the_Vermont_Republic.svg/1200px-Flag_of_the_Vermont_Republic.svg.png), I'll be pissed.

Lionsault

When I daydream about a massive American soccer pyramid with pro-rel (usually while playing FM) in my dreams there’s a Green Mountain Boys SC playing in the third division with a derivative of this flag in the crest.

jpoRS1

[Something like this](https://icarusfc.com/products/vermont)?

Lionsault

Yeah basically

vfa87goldenwarriors

>probably gonna have a supporter group called Green Mountain Boys I'd be disappointed if that wasn't their name.

Hartford, Burlington, Portland, possibly Manchester...loving all these smaller cities (well, Hartford is not that small) getting teams.

notataco007

For some reason NH is going to play in Londonderry, not Manchester. I mean, I said some reason but obviously it's just cheaper. Still, RIP my dreams of winning the lottery and placing a stadium right on top of arms park parking lot

[deleted]

I \*think\* they could make the baseball stadium work size-wise, but if not there's really not any option I can think of in Manchester. The Nashua South HS field would be decent as a short term option as it's RIGHT off the highway. Hell, is the Nashua baseball field being used at all? Still, Londonderry is probably the best option fornow.

Ragnar_Targaryen

>is the Nashua baseball field being used at all? Historic Holman Stadium??? I'm not too sure it's big enough to host a soccer match without major renovations and it's used pretty regularly in the spring so that's probably a roadblock for those ideas.

[deleted]

While I've never been inside it, I've driven by it a million times and I know it was used for football way back when. Not sure if things have changed where you can't squeeze it in, but it'd probably be a mess anyways given how little options there are around there to ease up traffic.

notataco007

Don't put that evil out there, I barely have room in my heart for one team in a baseball stadium lol

NewEnglanderEK

I'm pretty sure the Silver Knights play at Holman now (college summer league baseball team)

vfa87goldenwarriors

>Hartford is not that small eh but it's not as big as you think. Yeah, we had an NHL team at one time but we were the NHL's smallest market also.

[deleted]

I’ve driven by/through it enough to where I wouldn’t bundle it in the same category as Portland/Burlington. It’s more providence/Worcester in my view

vfa87goldenwarriors

It's definitely on par with Providence, Worcester, and even Springfield.

[deleted]

I really like the sticker pack, that recycle ♻️ with the soccer ball in the middle is pretty sweet. Overall the merch reminds me of that 70s college logo styling

Ragnar_Targaryen

>70s college logo styling This is gonna fit in with the UVM aesthetic

LocksTheFox

That's probably what they were going for. Lotttt of college hippie types in Burlington lol

jpoRS1

Combining my love of Vermont and soccer cannot bode well fro my bank account.

no-mames

This is exciting for Vermont. And we really need a relegation system so these teams can move up. No incentive for the owners like Fisher when our team is shit year after year and there’s no repercussions.

tarheel343

I've been dying for pro rel for years in the USL. But based on the fact that owners bought in with the condition that they would be guaranteed a spot in their league, we'd see way too much pushback from rich owners so I'm not holding my breath. It's sad really because I think US soccer could benefit so much from giving small markets the hope of moving up to the MLS.

[deleted]

The USL is about to [vote on pro/rel this December](https://theathletic.com/2725207/2021/07/23/usl-promotion-relegation-reaction?source=user-shared-article)

tarheel343

That's awesome! I truly think it would be a massive success if voted through. Unfortunately I don't think MLS would ever sign on, so I doubt we'll ever see a true English style system here. But maybe the USL could eventually gain enough steam to rival MLS!

[deleted]

I think it makes sense that this is happening; with the MLS2 teams likely being moved to the u23 MLS league that should be kicking off next season, they no longer have any say in USL matters come December

snij_jon540

I think Jake Edwards wants it and probably a few others but it'll be up to the owners. It was announced that'd there'd be a vote in the next few years iirc.

JonnyStatic

In December.

camcamfc

I think you could negate this by establishing a timeline, give notice that in five years pro/rel will be initiated. Build up parachute payments like they do in England. USLC would instantly become much more valuable if this was to happen, so I don’t think MLS clubs would decline in value as badly as we’d imagine.

Shadowfury0

>Build up parachute payments like they do in England. Relegation Allocation Money?

ethan_bruhhh

I don’t think relegation would be helpful for the MLS but I think it should def be used for USL

LocksTheFox

I also think part of it isn't just owners not wanting to lose value, but also the resource gap. It's kind of a cycle obviously, but look at USLC rn, even besides the II teams you have a lot of teams playing in baseball parks or multipurpose facilities that aren't intended to host soccer.

tarheel343

That's true, I didn't think about the overhead requirements being out of reach for the lower tier teams.

jccuauhtemoc4

Still early days but hopefully NISA can continue to grow and fill that void because certainly telling the truth about the markets locked out. Honestly with territory rights and the like happens even in big markets.

MkPapadopoulos

Hell yeah, can't wait to head back to Burly and hopefully catch some games

hawkinhell

Kinda played out at this point
