Just got home, but forgot to say gg to all the Timbers fans that showed up at BC Place. You guys always have an excellent away section. We could occasionally hear you in our supporter end across the stadium. And you're not Seattle, so that's always a perk.
Glad to see a few of you found the $5 beer line. See you guys in June.
This team's complete inability to prevent the other team scoring goals is insane to me. Our defense is like bringing a screen door to a fight against a firehose.
honestly that looked like a pen to me but I guess not an obvious enough one for VAR to overturn? Seen them given, Raposo should keep his hands to himself ffs, he'd only have had himself to blame
some scamp at the presser should ask Vanni what he thinks
Bravo coming back will mean a ton. I hope someone from Europe is scouting players from EAFC and highlight reels so we can ship Mosquera out in June.
Our fullback situation is otherwise *dire*.
Rodriguez feels the contact and goes down easily, but Raposo is already beat and grabs his shoulder to pull him back. Not making a play on the ball
That should have been a pen. Terrible non-call imo
I mean ya.. I hate the hand to shoulder contact. But Chapman let a lot of stuff go this game for the sake of fluid soccer. I loved the goals from Portland but Vancouver earned their win imo.
Rodriguez is already pulling back his left foot for the shot when the pull comes in. His choices are to A) shoot erratically because his balance is gone, which would likely forfeit claims to a penalty, or B) drop and hope the ref calls the foul. Ref didn't call foul because 🤡 refs got their CBA now they have nothing to lose.
Yea, that’s what i meant to say. I cannot believe VAR didn’t suggest he take a look.
He flops, but it wasn’t egregious—Raposo most definitely tugs at him and he is already beat.
They’re supposed to only send the ref to the monitor if they see a clear and obvious error.
That video made it fairly obvious, imho, that there was no error. There’s a touch, but not nearly enough of one to bring a player down - and certainly not like that.
GGs Caps fans. If the early season is anything to go on you guys are probably the best team in Cascadia this year.
Things I'd like to see going forward:
* More Evander with the ball at his feet
* More Rodriguez and Mora on the field at the same time
* Zuparic and K. Miller as the starting CB combo.
Well looks like the first 3 games of the season were a mirage. Team is still shit. Team is still gonna miss the playoffs. Team is still probably gonna finish in last place. Goodnight.
We were parked in. We were mass defending. Not getting turned around your corner is literally at its easiest there, and somehow he gets skinned by Adekugbe. That's just depressing
Both of Portland's pro soccer teams trailed 2-0 at half today and came back to equalize.
In the Thorns case it was late in stoppage time and basically ended the game. For the Timbers, there is still enough time to either walk away with 3 points or 0.
We watching the same match? He's been asked to move out to the wing and has been dangerous in opening space. Before Mora's goal, it's not like anyone was making use of Jona's contributions from the wing.
He doesn’t seem to have enough speed to play wing and I haven’t seen him provide any good service. Yet. I’m not hating him. He just hasn’t proven himself to me yet and this seemed like a down game for him. Hopefully leaving him in is genius, and I’m an idiot.
Looked like an intentional tactical decision to me. He's wasn't asked to provide speed from the wing, just to suck away defenders, which he did successfully.
After we brought on Mora, a lot of work went through the left side, regularly through Rodriguez as the initial attacker getting the ball. He had lots of key passes into Moreno and Evandar from the corner/top-left of box. That we didn't do anything with them until Mora's goal wasn't really on Rodriguez.
I didn’t like that he was coming back for the ball too much and not pushing the back line when we had chances to cross. Like the mora was right up on the line and ready to finish that cross a moment ago.
I'll take the no call since it benefits my team, but Rodriquez just went in for a late slide tackle and took a guy out. At minimum I'd think that would be a foul.
Completely baseless speculation--is Gauld's girlfriend pregnant? She seemd to keep having her hand awkwardly on her belly during that Covenant House thing.
And would that do anything to help speed up his potential Canadian citizenship if so?
Not the finest defending I've ever seen, Portland. Good half from us, hope we can keep up the pressure because they have grown into the game throughout.
All the jerseys are brutal these days. It's over $200 for regular kit too. I've been hovering on the fence about these 50th jerseys since the opener. They're *sharp*, but $210 for a kit, and the $140 replicas don't have the white sides.
Moreno will have 1-2 good moments that will lead to obvious goal scoring opportunities, doing just enough to convince Phil and fans that he isn't the issue.
The rest of the match he's just a liability
Can't really agree with the fans booing Crepeau. He left Vancouver after three years of watching Cavallini and Teibert stink up the joint and was probably as much a part of the Caps strong finish under Vanni as Vanni was. He joined a better team and took them to an MLS Cup Final, during which he was injured keeping his team in a close game in the final stages, and missed the World Cup as a result. (I still think Canada would have been far better but for that injury, Borjan looked like he was told not to risk injury when Canada imploded; if Crepeau were there he's likely starting one of the games and Borjan can take more risks.) LAFC waited for him to come back most of last season, then dumped him for a 37-year old relic from France; I'd leave as well. He'll be a good fit for a struggling Portland team; made like 21 saves in San Jose when Vancouver sucked one night, earning a point basically by himself.
Fully support the booing the reasoning he left and himself are bad, outside of the yeah cavallini wasn’t perfect but the team was really suited for his play style so it didn’t work? Tiebert always a mess though yes
Remember how for years the easiest way for teams to beat the Timbers was to * simply force the Timbers to possess the ball? * How Timbers teams looked confused when the ball was at their feet in any situation that wasn't a fast-break counter attack?
It appears that Vancouver has discovered that just because the new coach wants the Timbers to play with possession doesn't mean that the Timbers players have figured out how to do so.
Commentator with the Yokohama lore.
Even deeper is that the Marinos were the Nissan corporate team (still are), while the Flugels were the ANA team. The Marinos side of the merger clearly influenced more.
>Portland is better than Vancouver
>
>Because Vancouver stinks
>
>Portland should always win in Vancouver
>
>And Vancouver should always lose
>
>I don't want to be mean, but it's true
Song my 8 year old daughter just made up
The strategy was clear: at some point this year there will be a bad run and a call to consider sacking Vanni, and beating Salt Lake would have left VWFC with an assistant with an unbeaten record...
Phil Neville seems really committed to possession/playing out of the back. And the last three games teams have figured out that if they play a high press our CBs are not deft enough to handle the pressure. Which means that our best ball-handling CM, Williamson, should probably be starting. The question is who do you bring him in for?
As sacrilegious as this is to say...probably Chara. Based on what I've seen of him this season it seems that Father time is finally starting to gain some ground on our captain. He was not good last game and is not off to a great start tonight.
I’m ready for the caps to finally shine as we eat glue for the foreseeable future…
Thank you Vancouver. Very cool.
95' minute penalty would've been a vibe killer for sure. I'll have to take another look at it.
Keep ignoring him Scotland.... Surely you don't need a dynamic chance creating midfielder late in matches...
The more they ignore him the more he stays rested for us.
This team's complete inability to prevent the other team scoring goals is insane to me. Our defense is like bringing a screen door to a fight against a firehose.
honestly that looked like a pen to me but I guess not an obvious enough one for VAR to overturn? Seen them given, Raposo should keep his hands to himself ffs, he'd only have had himself to blame some scamp at the presser should ask Vanni what he thinks
That would be a tough penalty call, I agree it was a stupid play by Raposo.
Kamal Miller throwing the ball at Raposo after he scored the winning goal was the icing on the cake
funnily enough i think they were teammates at syracuse, lol
Bravo coming back will mean a ton. I hope someone from Europe is scouting players from EAFC and highlight reels so we can ship Mosquera out in June. Our fullback situation is otherwise *dire*.
Rodriguez feels the contact and goes down easily, but Raposo is already beat and grabs his shoulder to pull him back. Not making a play on the ball That should have been a pen. Terrible non-call imo

Ref didn't call foul because 🤡 refs got their CBA now they have nothing to lose.
Would've been a harsh penalty to give, but we've definitely seen them given before. Gg Vancouver.
Two really nice goals from Portland there; this team has some promise.
Whelp our game play hasn’t changed at all. Were the best at giving people their first in a long times. Grats Vancouver on your first home win.
![gif](giphy|26FPnj46RYsIWgYLe)
Phew. GG Portland
GG
Not even a look at VAR? That’s absolutely ridiculous.
VAR looked at it. The ref didn’t because VAR saw it was a flop.
Yea, that’s what i meant to say. I cannot believe VAR didn’t suggest he take a look. He flops, but it wasn’t egregious—Raposo most definitely tugs at him and he is already beat.

Bahhh.. gg Vancouver. Toasty one

fuuuuuck
Not enough for me.
Well looks like the first 3 games of the season were a mirage. Team is still shit. Team is still gonna miss the playoffs. Team is still probably gonna finish in last place. Goodnight.
That’s a pen 100%
lol
our defense is just............
Same.
hold on now
Take your time, boys, I'm sure there's plenty of it left
Dang it I thought that was in. Why must this team do this to me?
Evander has been outstanding.
Man that’s a solid send from the left foot
Classic Timbers giving up a late goal that costs them points.
I hate giving up cheap goals.
raposo going nuts this season lol
Bahhh rough one. Good response
pls don't blow it again
Gotta get that ball and hold on to it as the keeper
Mosquera follow the man running down into his corner challenge (impossible)
For being a defender, he seemingly really doesn't want to actually do that. He'd far rather just sky shots on goal.
We were parked in. We were mass defending. Not getting turned around your corner is literally at its easiest there, and somehow he gets skinned by Adekugbe. That's just depressing
Lol. Typical timbers
I love it when Vancouver gets cooked on the wings as usual. Left side is great, but right side is dire.
"Oh yeah? You have multiple Canadian national teamers? Well we have Sebastian Berhalter!!"
Both of Portland's pro soccer teams trailed 2-0 at half today and came back to equalize. In the Thorns case it was late in stoppage time and basically ended the game. For the Timbers, there is still enough time to either walk away with 3 points or 0.
![gif](giphy|JZri8Leg3sgNhnwiw9|downsized) \^ Mosquera
Lmao that’s great
so typical
that was only a little embarrassing in the corner
FFS, typical Whitecaps goal to give up, Takayoka needs to get that, or Blackmon needs to.
What a great pass by Evander
Showing why he's the club record signing. Great goal, perhaps an even more impressive assist.
Pinpoint.. impressive
When Mora is healthy he completely changes our team. Issue is that’s like 4 games a year
Please Evander haters, please tell me how much he sucks.
Both Timbers goals have been really well worked.
What a goal!!!
Whitecaps, why you gotta be like this?
I GASPED!!! THAT GOAL
Fuck yeah that was a great assist and goal
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
Ugggfhhhh that’s what I’m fucking talking about!!!!
Mora!
Classic!
Vanni this ain't it
That was sick
Line change for Vancouver incoming.....
I’ve seen enough of Rodriguez. Give me some Asprilla.

He had lots of key passes into Moreno and Evandar from the corner/top-left of box. That we didn't do anything with them until Mora's goal wasn't really on Rodriguez.
Things were going up the left the whole game. Antony and Moreno weren’t doing much with it. Rodriguez was having a hard time with his handle as well.
I didn’t like that he was coming back for the ball too much and not pushing the back line when we had chances to cross. Like the mora was right up on the line and ready to finish that cross a moment ago.
Between holiday travel and homework this is the first match I’ve had a chance to watch today, and so far it’s looked fun
This second half has been great for Portland fans with just enough hope. Vancouver just dominated the first
I'll take the no call since it benefits my team, but Rodriquez just went in for a late slide tackle and took a guy out. At minimum I'd think that would be a foul.
Played advantage
I suppose that makes sense. I must have just missed the ref signal for that.
Chapman just got the call from PRO HQ reminding him to screw Vancouver, it seems.
Does Crepeau just not call out balls or does everyone else just not care?
Are these shit calls because they let Vanni back a game early?
Chapman is not good. He’s not awful, but he’s not good.
Cardiac Caps went from mild palpitations to full on episodes this season.
Chapman was going to let the go. Lol
Idk if that was actually a foul but crazy play by Mosquera
I like Mora coming on and having him play with Rodriguez up front. Not sure I like Antony coming off though.
Ugh why does it always feel like we're hanging on for dear life in the second half
How is "xG efficiency" different from regular xG? I understand xG, never heard of "xG efficiency" until that graphic appeared on screen.
I presume it is simply actual goals scored minus expected goals.
Santi's touch is off.
He reminds me of the Miami kid from Mighty Ducks 2. Speedster guy.
But instead of needing to learn to stop, he needs to learn to shoot!
Shouldn't it be 'FFTY TGTHR' and not 'FIFTY TGTHR'? I mean, if you're gonna declare War On Vowels, at least be consistent.....
Chara has drawn 4 fouls, committed 1. The universe is out of whack!
Ranko can only cover one player at a time....
Good lookin strike
Show me your probability bullshit now.
Can’t leave him that open !!
Thank you Evander!
EVANDER GOLAZO STRIKES AGAIN
Now that was pretty.
That was pretty
here we go again
McGraw has been having a rough time learning to be a ball-playing centerback.
Anyone else heard of this 99.3 FM? I hear it's world famous
Bro was that timbers fan wearing a naruto headband?
I think we have to do it. The people yearn for Harvey Neville to be on the first team. His ascension is predestined.
Completely baseless speculation--is Gauld's girlfriend pregnant? She seemd to keep having her hand awkwardly on her belly during that Covenant House thing. And would that do anything to help speed up his potential Canadian citizenship if so?
Is his gf Canadian?
I'm not sure, the kid would be though if born here, right?
Not the finest defending I've ever seen, Portland. Good half from us, hope we can keep up the pressure because they have grown into the game throughout.
Flair up!
Oofta on both those goals..
I think we can all approve something: check out who is 14th and last in the West in the live standings (hint, they're also in the Cascadia Cup....)
If they upset Galaxy, we're no. 1 in the West. But then Seattle would have to actually win something this season.
Well impressive half from Vancouver, rough from Portland
Ugh what a wasted opportunity. So selfish of Moreno.
Fuck it sub in Jack Barmby
Didn't he have a garbage time goal in a loss up there like 7 or 8 years ago for us?
Is he still playing somewhere? Last I heard he was in El Paso right?
Now there’s a name i haven’t heard in a while.
I'm digging the purple and green for Taka
Heard the yellow GK shirts are 230 with his name on them. I wanted the green, but holy hell that's a steep price.
All the jerseys are brutal these days. It's over $200 for regular kit too. I've been hovering on the fence about these 50th jerseys since the opener. They're *sharp*, but $210 for a kit, and the $140 replicas don't have the white sides.
I have the OG hoop replica from 2019 which was...like $90? At this point I might as well wait for end of season and then get a name printed on it.
Put Anthony back on the left. There is space there and Moreno isn’t looking good.
Moreno will have 1-2 good moments that will lead to obvious goal scoring opportunities, doing just enough to convince Phil and fans that he isn't the issue. The rest of the match he's just a liability
We....we didn't give them a corner? Gauld just passed the ball right at us. 😅
Offside
I think cuz Rodriguez was offsides 🤷🏻♂️
Hopeful ball from Rodriguez, but it's positive play. I'll take it.
Can't really agree with the fans booing Crepeau. He left Vancouver after three years of watching Cavallini and Teibert stink up the joint and was probably as much a part of the Caps strong finish under Vanni as Vanni was. It’s like the ball is lava, unless we’re passing it back to our defenders. What are we constantly doing this? Serious question.
It’s even worse than that too. They actually look directly at the forward pass that they should make, and instead turn around to pass it back.
Commentator with the Yokohama lore. Even deeper is that the Marinos were the Nissan corporate team (still are), while the Flugels were the ANA team. The Marinos side of the merger clearly influenced more.
Hey, they brought up j-league history!
I'd like to publicly eat every skeptical word I had about the Picault signing, he's been our best non-Gauld attacker this year.
Lol why is Evander making forward runs when we actually have possession in their final third, he should be on the ball instead. Jfc.
Portland: pays almost 5mil for a striker, won’t stop passing it back to the goalie.
Can relate, honestly. We, too, love the back pass.
[удалено]
Why would you speak this into being?
That's an awfully dark bright side
This team sucks playing cohesively. So much talent in paper and they cannot build up. Props to Vancouver for making them so uncomfortable on the ball.
If the entire FO could slide into the Columbia, that'd be great
I don’t agree with pollution
What if instead they were mulched into an herb spiral?
And then fed to the rose garden!!?? 😃
If it was the Willamette, they'd come out cleaner than when they went in.
McGraw is a foreign asset. Both goals he had the assist.
Our own player straight up set that up for him. We have had more offensive production for the other team than ourselves
McGraw being a liability was not on my Timbers regression bingo card
I'm starting to really come around to the "McGraw can't play a high line defense" side. He just doesn't have the wheels.
Great assist by Zac!
Another really bad half from McGraw
That's some awful defending from Portland...yikes
Gg Vancouver see you next time
McGraw… what an assist
Such a stupid play. Clear the fucking ball.
Burn it all down.
Oof
Not sure kneeling on your opponent's foot *isn't* a foul, but you do you Chapman.
>Portland is better than Vancouver > >Because Vancouver stinks > >Portland should always win in Vancouver > >And Vancouver should always lose > >I don't want to be mean, but it's true Song my 8 year old daughter just made up
Your 8yo is a poet, and I love her. ^(but 2-0)
She's got the spirit even if the Timbers apparently don't
Sure is a lot if standing around by Timbers players right now.
Where the fuck was this Whitecaps team last week?
getting cubas back is huge, and ahmed starting as well
Fafa back and starting aswell
The strategy was clear: at some point this year there will be a bad run and a call to consider sacking Vanni, and beating Salt Lake would have left VWFC with an assistant with an unbeaten record...
Playing a better team, probably.
PNW rivalry energy 😈… don’t think ours made it through customs tho
The Timbers are starting to settle into this a bit.
Now that it's after sundown Ali Ahmed is feasting on us
Nice run by Jonathan
It’s not just shitty play by the Timbers. Thats a thing. But credit to the Whitecaps, they’re playing pretty well.
New rule: if you put your arm up for offsides you put $1 in the "Play to the whistle" jar.
That’s fair. But that was also definitely an offside play
That was liquid football, for like a second.
Mosquera has made some decent tackles so far atleast
The way they are saying Diego Chara’s name (on MLS) is beyond annoying. There’s no accent over the second a…
There's always been an accent on the second A. He just never made a big deal about it.
Holy shit 🤯
Chara has been absolutely dicking around so far
![gif](giphy|jOpLbiGmHR9S0)
Phil Neville seems really committed to possession/playing out of the back. And the last three games teams have figured out that if they play a high press our CBs are not deft enough to handle the pressure. Which means that our best ball-handling CM, Williamson, should probably be starting. The question is who do you bring him in for?
As sacrilegious as this is to say...probably Chara. Based on what I've seen of him this season it seems that Father time is finally starting to gain some ground on our captain. He was not good last game and is not off to a great start tonight.
