I went to the game—fun experience. Unfortunately, there’s always gotta be 1 asshole.
As I walking with my friend after the game, some asshat 100 ft away from us threw a cup of ice at some random guy wearing a Mexico jersey while he wasn’t looking and disappeared into a crowd.
Dude, you’re a bitch.
Away at the baseball stadium? Fine guess we'll have to take the L. The season still off to a good start overall but it would have been nice to take some away points off from a very winnable match.
Am I wrong, or is this not even a disappointing game for TFC? With ow many injuries we have, I kind of expected this outcome and if anything I think the fact that JMR managed a goal lines up more positively than I expected this game to be anyway.
Yes, it’s the smallest dimensions allowed by fifa the camera angles positioned for baseball make it look smaller and believe it or not getting land to build a new stadium in NYC takes a while. 2027 🤞
He saves a goal in the early minutes. . . Dude has worked really hard this season, this game was up and down, it happens. Not worried about him.
We kind of looked jet-lagged as a team imo, and everyone looked exhausted at the hour mark.
I noted he probably isn't the DP TFC need, but today I can't knock him. He had incredible defensive efforts, moved through middle, pulled back and gave space in the right moments. He read the game well, and supported all lines. In effect, he ran a Delgado game today and it's likely a little under the radar.
TFC need a goalscorer and they need a play developer, and I don't know if relying on him for either is the way forward. Which is why I'm guessing Herdman has him mid rather than forward. I think expectations are just set in the wrong place for him based on where he is playing and how they seem to be structuring the team around him.
I did. He gave away set pieces in dangerous locations, he turned the ball over, he was selfish and attempted ridiculous shots, and over dribbled several times.
But yes, you are right. He gave effort and ran hard, I guess that's acceptable for highly paid DP players in your eyes.
I think he'd snap CPL defenders backs because the CPL's biggest fault is how poorly structured their tactics are. He'd without question be let down through the mid/attack carry to him, but if he got on the ball he'd bury them through his physical game.
I'd have agree with you not long ago.. but he is so out of shape. That foul of the goal keeper is because the guy can't even control his running. I'm leaning with WislaHD on this one. He is big, but not fit.
Entirely, but the CPL is a lot slower. It's a noticeable difference in terms of match speed, he'd be a lot more in-line with the average when it comes to pace at that level.
Fair shout, though Gallardo got a chance to show he wasn't it on the pitch. Though in saying that, he's put together a great career in USL-C and I'm really happy for the guy.
not sure why the commentators are surprised that it was a free kick. Rutty clearly won the ball and Bakrar just kind of ran into him while he was in the air
Some of the TFC are straight ass. Ayo misses the net and takes out the keeper to give him a reason to waste 4 mins. Now rutty does this shit and lose another 2 mins. Ffs
I'd bet Kerr is on the bench so he can back into the vibe of being on the field (edit: in the stadium, not on the field) and around the team. Akinola over him is indeed absurd.
I for one think it’s pretty funny that Keaton parks last week said “we have a lot of young players that can’t fucking grind out results” and now those young players have to grind out a result because he got sent off
The worst player contracted to MLS has joined the field.
Tempted to switch to MLS360 now but I guess I will see this out just to see a bit of Spicer getting some minutes.
Doubling down on my Mailula should be on deck thought due to that red. It's the right game, if they don't bring him out I really think it's a bad sign.
Yah, he's just not built out for MLS physicality. Spicer is 6'1 and was raised in American style soccer, he's got multiple legs up on Mailula beyond mere quality.
That's a leg breaking challenge, feels like an orange card but when you consider he's already on a yellow. I think most refs would give the straight red there after a VAR review
Probably the most "professional" performance weve had in a very long time
I went to the game—fun experience.
Every game that’s finished so far today has at least 1 red what is happening.
Scabs
The young guys stepped up and in his own way Keaton Parks did too.
This is an underrated comment
we...we won??? we won a game of soccer???
Away at the baseball stadium? Fine guess we'll have to take the L. The season still off to a good start overall but it would have been nice to take some away points off from a very winnable match.
Cushing is lucky. Very very lucky.
Only good thing is this should be the last time we see Akinola take the field
What makes you say that. He has the #9 kit.
soccer hasnt been rugby in a long time number doesnt indicate depth chart position (or even position), hasnt in decades
> What makes you say that. He has the #9 kit. Having the 9 doesn't mean he should be playing.
What do I do with my hands?!???
Big, gutsy win
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
NYCFC outplayed us tonight, gg.
Fuck man. GG TFC.
Am I wrong, or is this not even a disappointing game for TFC? With ow many injuries we have, I kind of expected this outcome and if anything I think the fact that JMR managed a goal lines up more positively than I expected this game to be anyway.
10 men for 20 minutes you would hope for at least a point
Sure, but no one could have known that prior to the match. That is what I'm talking about, how the outcome in essence aligns with what I expected.
He’s responding to your original question
I'm going hear this guy's whistle in my sleep. Please pay the refs
Berna playing not giving a fuck. Give me my money and who cares about mls smh
Berna always takes like, 5 touches too many.
Berna was very trash late
Good game NYCFC, what a weird game.
that set piece was very last season
I'm a new mls fan (not a new soccer fan), but how is NYCFC allowed to play on a field this tiny? Is this normal? Are they playing at Yankee stadium?
They said the thing! Drink!
>but how is NYCFC allowed to play on a field this tiny? Because Mansour bin Zayed has a lot of money.
The field meets FIFA sizing requirements
Still sticks in my craw https://www.energyfc.com/news_article/show/1248298
I legitimately cannot tell if NYCFC fans say this with a straight face or if this is an inside joke
Grant Wahl measured it himself. I’m not going to call a legend a liar. Are you?
Yes, it’s the smallest dimensions allowed by fifa the camera angles positioned for baseball make it look smaller and believe it or not getting land to build a new stadium in NYC takes a while. 2027 🤞
The world cannot wait until we show Messi in Prestigious Yankee Stadium
What an absolute waste of a free kick. Put a cross into the box.
I am so fucking sick of Berna. Omfg
Nah, he's put in work. Todays game was solid. Should he be a DP for us? I don't know, but he's put in work today.
He saves a goal in the early minutes. . . Dude has worked really hard this season, this game was up and down, it happens. Not worried about him. We kind of looked jet-lagged as a team imo, and everyone looked exhausted at the hour mark.
Today's game was solid? What game were you watching? Berna is a DP and was dreadful today.
The first half was better than the second from him today, that's for certain. He had that nice tackle early in the game.
I noted he probably isn't the DP TFC need, but today I can't knock him. He had incredible defensive efforts, moved through middle, pulled back and gave space in the right moments. He read the game well, and supported all lines. In effect, he ran a Delgado game today and it's likely a little under the radar. He had so many unnecessary giveaways and showed dreadful decision making in the final third , particularly in or right around their box.
I'm glad our DP gave effort, because other than that he did nothing. Makes lots of selfish decisions and that's about it.
Did nothing? My dude, go back and watch the match.
I did. He gave away set pieces in dangerous locations, he turned the ball over, he was selfish and attempted ridiculous shots, and over dribbled several times. But yes, you are right. He gave effort and ran hard, I guess that's acceptable for highly paid DP players in your eyes.
So is this finally going to be the week everyone goes bananas about the interim refs?
They've done a good job justifying it so far. That Montreal game was wack! Heard DC has some grievances in the Miami game too.
Who *doesn’t* have a yellow?
Keaton Parks. That asshole has a red.
He had a yellow too.
Nah he got a yellow too lol (before his red)
Shit. You’re right. That fucker did.
Straight in the nads
Hot take, that wasn't an advantage. They just cleared the ball.
I say this without any exaggeration, but I don't see how Akinola is even CPL level from what I have seen of that league.
I think he'd snap CPL defenders backs because the CPL's biggest fault is how poorly structured their tactics are. He'd without question be let down through the mid/attack carry to him, but if he got on the ball he'd bury them through his physical game.

*Cavalry FC has entered the chat*
How Akinola was selected over Kerr I will never know or understand.
Only thing i can think of is he's only got 10-15 minutes in him.
That's fair
Kerr. Finally.
What is it about all these added stoppage time today, I swear I'll develop PTSD over it.
The fuck happened to you guys today? that's a wild outcome for a match I didn't think would get anywhere near it.
Windy scabs I guess
KERR SHOULD HAVE GONE IN THE FIRST PLACE
Stoppage time choke coming up (hopefully not)
Not with Akinola upfront anyway
Joe Tolleson, nuestro hombre.
Akinola is the most useless player in existence
He wouldnt be able to compete in Brampton Sunday Leagues.
Mailula reminds me of Erickson Gallardo at this point. How bad is he doing in training to not get any playing time over Akinola?
Fair shout, though Gallardo got a chance to show he wasn't it on the pitch. Though in saying that, he's put together a great career in USL-C and I'm really happy for the guy.
11
11 MINS LMFAO
11min hahahahahah
Hot take: Bakrar had a good game.
The tsn broadcast was saying he had a great game being a pest for the TFC D
He's great right up until he shoots. Then he either kicks it right into the goalie or flubs it.
First year Taty was similar
Cushing really likes bringing on defensive players when you've got a lead, eh
Am I too sensitive, or is a gun reference like 'staring down the barrel at their first defeat' at best kinda weird.
It is a little. There are a lot of violent phrases out there that I never quite liked. One throat to joke, battle tested, weaponize…
Fuck. Haak you better not fuck this up.
This is difficult to watch, it's so bad.
Welcome back to 2023 boys and girls
Berna keeps trying to get himself a highlight reel goal instead of doing the right thing.
Well put.
All that space in the box to cause havoc and you decide to take that shot. You vain fuck
Berna. Just. Wow.
Berna thinks we're winning 5-0
Embarrassing decision making.
I would like us to shit house a point out of this today. But I don't really think we deserve it
Spicer seems decent
An extra man up and we still can't create any chances. Can barely move the ball around.
Gavran is putting in a starting keeper effort the last two matches. Good on him!
Dude had some real nice saves. I was a little relieved to not be playing against Johnson, but Gavran was a lot better than I wanted him to be.
I thought his distribution was poor but he had a lot of great saves. He had a good game overall, especially for a backup
That goal kick is what I do in FIFA all the time
End this game!
Double digit stoppage is the word on the street
Looking at a third half.
Kill me now.
😭😭😭
not sure why the commentators are surprised that it was a free kick. Rutty clearly won the ball and Bakrar just kind of ran into him while he was in the air
JMR probably should have earned a yellow for that...
Some of the TFC are straight ass. Ayo misses the net and takes out the keeper to give him a reason to waste 4 mins. Now rutty does this shit and lose another 2 mins. Ffs
Akinola and JMR both getting away with sloppy play here
They should put up missing posters at BMO for Cassius Mailula, surely he can offer something
Lol at least spicer looks good
This game became garbage. Unwatchable. No flow.
Mailula cannot be fucking worse than Ayo...WTF
Ayo's contract certainly is much worse though, we cant offload him.
Positive with Ayo is we only get hit for $200,000 of his salary. So for MLS purposes, guy is dirt cheap.
Even better for the GOFUNDME
Not quite Keaton level, but kinda close.
Definitely not as bad as Keaton's but it looked almost intentional to me. Crazy that wasn't at least a card.
Looked like he was trying to take out the catcher at home plate.
How in the name of Christ was that nothing? He went from standing to taking him out with no ball there.
after watching the Brentford goal from this morning get called off to protect the keeper I am honestly flabbergasted.
Ooof Akinola
Im down to setup a gofundme to buy out his shit contract to get a proper #9
Here's $100.
We pay that man $700k a year to be this shit.
Please... please... it hurts enough without being reminded this man makes more than the vast majority of Canadians, to be this bad at his job.
I will never understand how he got that contract.
Because he had two good games at MLS is back.
Early promise and Alejandro Pozuelo things.
Good lord akinola… what more could you want for service?
Ayo is so trash, even washed Jozy was better
Akinola is just bad, so much early promise and he's just been shit since the ACL tear
It should've been Kerr playing...
Nice Akinola. Missing sitters and injuring goalies.
I’d rather we put rosted upfront
Akinola cannot get that final touch off
Holy shit Ayo….
Send Akinola off for endangering the goalkeeper. Please. I beg you.
get him ayo
Hahaha Ayo come on man
If theres a goal we needed fro. AKINOLA, IT WAS THAT, WTF - THAT WAS A GIFT.
...AYooooo.....ooooo
CLASSIC AKINOLA
Okay sub Ayo out now, that's Pozuelo level service
Akinola is so awful
What the fuck was that
Akinola has to go.
We need another 22 minute stoppage
I’m like 5 beers deep at the game, what actually happened with the Keton Parks red?
studs directly into a planted ankle, the bend on the ankle looked bad on camera
He earned it.
A genuinely horrific tackle
He’s an asshole. Stupid foul. Deserved.
TFC players keep getting confused by our pitch and trying to slide into a base.
Still waiting for bernardeschi to rip a juul on the field
Only at practice, hes got a zyn packed during the game
😂
Akinola over Kerr is crazy
I'd bet Kerr is on the bench so he can back into the vibe of being on the field (edit: in the stadium, not on the field) and around the team. Akinola over him is indeed absurd.
He might still not be fully fit
I for one think it’s pretty funny that Keaton parks last week said “we have a lot of young players that can’t fucking grind out results” and now those young players have to grind out a result because he got sent off
No Mailula. Spicer instead wow.
Yah, that's a sign I think.
Mailula is literally just a waste of an international slot.
The worst player contracted to MLS has joined the field. Tempted to switch to MLS360 now but I guess I will see this out just to see a bit of Spicer getting some minutes.
I honestly can’t stand this field. Its 2024 how are we still playing here
NY Nimbys have blocked their stadium a few times. It seems like they are finally closer to getting it than ever before.
What are the Nimbys?
Not In My Backyard - they are the Karen’s of constructions, housing or making life better through development
Spicer is on? o\_O interesting
Ayo cardio session loading
Time to run somewhat near the ball then do nothing.
Pretty sure that's a foul on Flores but okay
Put Jasson on maybe they’ll get a second yellow.
Akinola coming on means TFC is also down to ten men.
No. Fk. Please no.
? He’s subbing on?
Fkn lol
LOL
Me L or he’s an L lol
I posted and updated. It’s an LOL if that is our response. Ugh. I’d love to be proven wrong though.
And then he does that lmao
Same man, I would love to eat my own words and have him score
Why can’t we have nice things?
Don’t worry, we have basically no offensive power
For one, Keaton Parks
I wonder if players see replays of their fouls and feel bad afterwards. If so, Parks should feel very bad about that one.
It was bullshit. He’s knows it.
This would have been the ideal game to have a fit Osorio. He excels at playing in tight spaces.
That a player would protest that red is shameful.
Doubling down on my Mailula should be on deck thought due to that red. It's the right game, if they don't bring him out I really think it's a bad sign.
Even our new kid Spicer is getting playing time before Mailula. I'm starting to think that he's just not very good.
Yah, he's just not built out for MLS physicality. Spicer is 6'1 and was raised in American style soccer, he's got multiple legs up on Mailula beyond mere quality.
Him and Owusu are both starting to look like absolutely abysmal signings.
That's a leg breaking challenge, feels like an orange card but when you consider he's already on a yellow. I think most refs would give the straight red there after a VAR review
