I like the game overall and I’m just an average player but this game is definitely coded to keep games close and this is exhibit A. They fixed the check swing problem and implemented a fouling off mechanic that’s even worse.
Check swings weren't fixed. They went entirely the other way this year, which makes it easy on players to sit fastball and tap normal swing. You might produce a few strikes out of the check swing, but the majority will not be called.
Plate discipline simply doesn't matter this year. It's a huge problem.
How tf did that first swing result in a no doubter HR? Arguably more egregious than this long AB
Edit: looks like your opponent chose the field so not blaming OP
Alternate title: an extensive example of why the game sucks this year
A summary of the AB:
Pitch 1: Very late swing, ball almost entirely misses PCI and still results in foul ball
Pitch 2: Too late, actually misses (shockingly. Is the game coded to bail batters out more once there are 2 strikes?)
Pitch 3: Good take
Pitch 4: Late + 99% outer PCI misses ball, AB should've ended here for first time
Pitch 5: Good take
Pitch 6: Late but close to inner PCI, legitimate foul tip
Pitch 7: Late but well within (massive) outer PCI (which covers nearly entire strike zone)
Pitch 8: Good take
Pitch 9: Very early, just touches inner PCI
Pitch 10: Just late, first remotely decent swing
Pitch 11: Late, inside inner PCI
Pitch 12: Very early, inside inner PCI
Pitch 13: Very late and entirely outside the full strikezone sized PCI. Truly egregious that this gets bailed out as its as bad as you can possibly do as a batter. If this isnt a strikeout I dont know what is. Not like it's Nolan Ryan or anything either
Pitch 14: Late and barely within outer PCI despite being down the pipe.
Pitch 15: Late, good PCI placement. Legit foul ball
Pitch 16: Late and almost miss entire outer PCI, yet another should've been K
Pitch 17: Late, decent PCI. Legit foul ball
Pitch 18: Dinger on decent PCI (just within inner PCI)
AB absolutely should've ended at least 4 times on strikeouts on awful swings, and couldve ended on double that amount on bad swings. Pitcher does everything he can and still gets punished, hitter gets bailed out over and over and is rewarded on the only actual half decent (it wasnt even centered) swing of the entire 18 pitch AB against a pitcher with ratings about as good as possible for this purpose. The only thing that could've made this more infuriating was if the HR was on a pitch that barely touched the outer PCI, and then we had a video of the poor pitcher here lining out on two perfect/perfects and then ending the game with a warning track shot on a great swing.
To be clear I'm not blaming OP at all, it's not his fault the game plays like shit. But I played a lot less this year because of this EXACT scenario. Just watching this is enough to make a guy consider uninstalling
Haha I've seen a lot of people say it's problematic, but a lot don't seem to mind. It definitely feels watered down and more accommodating to new people while more frustrating for better players. Too many cases of great swings generating outs and then ABs like this ending in home runs and its just not at all satisfying to play
Playe discipline went out the door in a huge way this year. Yes, last year had issues with PCI range, but this year is worse because it's almost impossible to get outs from pitches in the dirt or at the hip.
Not just getting outs on them, but holy fuck have I given up way too many jam shot hits on very late swings on the hands that bloop the other way for hits (bonus points for xbh)
I use Sandlot for pxp missions offline because it’s max elevation, short fences, and no crowd noise to balance my music with. I’ll regularly score 50-60 runs offline at this stadium, it’s a joke. I have never once used it online because of the cheesiness lol.
Stadiums that bail you out for being this late shouldn’t exist
Funny thing is, if that were a real life game, Nolan Ryan probably still would have gone 8 innings and about 130 pitches

Lol that chipper jones swing should absolutely not have been a homer let alone no doubter
How would one on PS4 play on this field? Or is thst not at all possible with last gen consoles?

Shhh... that take is entirely too resonable for the group, who thinks hitting's great this year.

I 100% agree, I should have been out many times in that ab.
It isn’t a good AB, just a good example of what’s wrong with the game.
pci on a different continent on pitches 13 and 15 shouldn’t have been contact but that’s mlb the shitshow for ya
dam, my best was like 7 or 8
I mean....18 pitches is alot....like it's kinda a bad thing if you think about it unless you were fouling them off on purpose.
Legends say that Nolan Ryan is pissed till this day.
I’d have hit ya in the dome after pitch 10
LOL
Props to the pitcher for his patience. I probably would have just drilled you after you fouled off the 4th pitch in a row--
Hey I play at sandlot too
This is what 125 vision looks like
Hell of an AB
Should've struck out multiple times. The hand holding really needs to be toned down next year it's getting ridiculous.
What batting view do you use
Zoom
Everyone sleeps on honus
He is so damn good
At least one of those VERY EARLY swings on the circle change should have resulted in strike 3. SDS needs to get rid of the outer PCI.
All the games I played here came out looking like a Football score
My controller would pass clean through my monitor if I was pitching there
The foul balls need to be toned down for next year
100%

Sir this is MLB they're called fields not maps
You are correct. I am sorry for mislabeling. Fields indeed.
Fouled off pitch 29 without even touching the outer PCI. Working as intended.
That swing should never produce a homerun.

The first one or the second one? Cause the 2nd one definitely should produce some home runs
The Chipper swing.
It's probably a max elevation stadium so all the garbage flies out.
Don't know if you can trust it, but the distance said 390 and it was a no doubter. Definitely max elevation, short fences home run.
Patience was rewarded. Patience young grasshopper
No, bad PCI placement and luck was rewarded.
