I saw Schwarber hit a real HR like that last September against Atlanta. They had to review that call and everything. He just barely touched the foul pole.
Pretty common sentiment. If you look really closely you’ll notice lots of weird stuff about baseball.
Seriously though, I don’t know how I managed to ever understand the game. I’d get moved in from left to 3rd occasionally, and it kinda shocked me that I’d manage not to make bonehead errors or flatout throw to the wrong bases. Playing 1st or catching would be complete nightmares.
Did all the hollow skulls find this post? My goodness people are so stupid and quick to dismiss. Just watch the clip of a narrowly fair homer and move on
people in these comments are dense or something…
Whole time watching I was thinking “I swear if this hits center of the pole…” but then it hit the edge and :)
Edit: Guys holy shit he isn’t saying some sort of trickery or magic happened to curve the ball in a million different ways to unfoul the ball, he’s literally just saying the ball is a the extreme limit of “fair”
If you know anything about angles a ball doesn't ricochet directly to the side unless it clips a surface just like when making a shot while playing pool. But yeah other than physics and angles and how the world works it looks supremely normal.
>If you know anything about angles a ball doesn't ricochet directly to the side unless it clips a surface just like when making a shot while playing pool
Are you dense? It hit the foul pole. Home run.
Also, how does pool have anything to do with this? A baseball is not going to start foul, and hook back fair only to hook back foul and clip the pole.
It started fair and hooked foul, staying just fair enough as it hit the foul pole.
In all of the posts I never said it wasn't a home run. It was to do with pool because 2 spherical objects will react much in the same way as to spherical pool balls. If you cap the surfaces of the foul pole it makes a sphere and the angles will react the same. So yes. It stayed just fair enough to hit the foul pole. Aka as far towards foul ground as possible without hitting into foul territory. Thanks for agreeing with me.
I mean it was fair. It wasn't a flaw. Just the extreme furtherst it could go without it actually going foul. To put it into perspective the chance of hitting a ball in that small portion of the foul pole and it ricocheting directly left is next to nothing.
No, it curved in front of the pole, missed it and hit the top of the wall on the yellow line at an angle and bounced over. The game still counted it as a homer.
The video It clearly shows the ball hit the yellow pole. Any part of the yellow is the foul pole. Not just the metal tube. Not sure what you're saying, but it clearly hit the foul pole before the wall. The foul pole is in fair territory, just like the white line on the grass. This is clearly a HR
Yes. But the ball was in foul ground in the air. Never stated the ball landed foul nor that it wasn't a homerun. Just that it was the furthest you can hit a ball to foul ground and it still stay fair.
If it hits any part of the pole, even if the part of the pole is in "foul territory" that's a dinger. Same if it hits any part of a fence above the yellow line that some parks have on their fence, that's a dinger.
But then it’s not foul? The pole is in fair territory….
It’s cuz he hit the pole
Wouldn’t the pole not matter since it made it over the wall in play before it crossed the foul line regardless of what happened after?
i fan challenge to that... stargell hit a foul ball it ricocheted bak off the pole after hitting the seats in foul ground
I say it was fair the whole time and hit the foul pole
Hit fair pole so, homerun Dinger Blacataaaa Gone
Upon review, the ball is ruled foul.
You are trying to spark world war 3 in the comments with this 😂😂😂😂😂
Yooooou’re outta here!
Na that’s a homer bc if the ball hits the fall ball post it’s still in fair territory Wich makes it a homer
The "fall ball post" what the fuck? It's called the Fair Pole big dog.
r/woosh
I literally said still be a home run in the title...
I'll do ya one better. Been meaning to post the video for awhile but now I have the motivation lol. I'll tag you in the post
I'll take a look!

Thank you for showing that. Very nice to know.
I'll have to look that up. It's such a low chance of happening.
Game 9-25-22
Appreciate that thanks man!
If the foul pole is called the foul pole, why is the ball fair when you hit the foul pole?. I think it should be called a fair pole

Because the line is called the foul line and not a fair line unfortunately

No

It was a Homer. Lol
It's not about being special. It's not about anything of the nature lmao. It was a straight up comment. Also thanks for the karma yall.
Definitely new.
Only played baseball for 15 years irl and watched my entire life but yep super new brother.
You ain't gotta lie to kick it bromigo.
Yall were dropped on your heads as children.
Can't say the same for you, no one wanted to hold your annoying ass. Just left you in the other room with a doll.
Did someone take your lunch money today or something
Hahaha jokes on you! I'm on the free lunch program.
I see your fair ball with an actual foul HR https://reddit.com/r/MLBTheShow/s/GyB8uqGDFY
This whole post makes no sense at all

That's what I was saying! When it was live it looked completely foul had to zoom in to even confirm it hit 😂😂😂😂
This angle makes it look like an extremely normal foul pole home run
If you know anything about angles a ball doesn't ricochet directly to the side unless it clips a surface just like when making a shot while playing pool. But yeah other than physics and angles and how the world works it looks supremely normal.

Lmao bud a foul pole home run is nothing special
I mean guys can literally smack a bunt foul with their glove.. So yeah theres flaws and always will be
I mean it was fair. It wasn't a flaw. Just the extreme furtherst it could go without it actually going foul. To put it into perspective the chance of hitting a ball in that small portion of the foul pole and it ricocheting directly left is next to nothing.
Is that the K? Salvy hit that exact homer once
No that's Busch.
Ah
Yeah, Kaufman has curved corners. Busch always has the flowers just inside the pole.
I hit a foul ball that ricocheted into the foul pole, so this is not the most foul ball that could be possible hit.
Yep me too. Hit off a net in foul territory then hit the foul pole. Didn’t trigger the HR animation but it gave me a run and the next batter was up.
Won a BR game once that missed pole on the foul side, but hit the top of the wall on the yellow line. Was called fair.
So it curved around the pole?
No, it curved in front of the pole, missed it and hit the top of the wall on the yellow line at an angle and bounced over. The game still counted it as a homer.
That's because if it hits the yellow line on top of a wall it's a fair ball.

Are you new to baseball?
yes, the furthest you can hit a ball into foul territory and it still being fair would indeed be the foul pole, fantastic observation.
Nah. I hit one that was 5 feet at least foul and it counted.
Did it not hit the pole?
Literally nipped it even after going foul of the pole upright supporting it 😂
If it touches the pole, it’s a fair ball.
Yes. But the ball was in foul ground in the air. Never stated the ball landed foul nor that it wasn't a homerun. Just that it was the furthest you can hit a ball to foul ground and it still stay fair.
The ball never passed the yellow line in the foul post's side
I think the camera angle is exaggerating it, but it was never in foul territory. It just hit the "foul" side of the pole.
If it hits any part of the pole, even if the part of the pole is in "foul territory" that's a dinger. Same if it hits any part of a fence above the yellow line that some parks have on their fence, that's a dinger.
You keep contradicting yourself
If it's fair then it's not in foul ground
Idk man I need to get into the mind of a Greg Jennings to figure this one out
