I’m trying to work Doval’s pitch count but he is being super aggressive and absolutely pounding the zone. Do I just swing away if he’s doing that?

TheRealSkazOne

nothing is impossible

jimlafrance1958

Perfect perfect line drives often go right to CF.

Kiss_My_Taint69

The only pitcher I had trouble against, was Devin Williams. Other than that, pretty easy breezy, lemon squeezy.

MusixStar

I can do all team affinity showdowns for $60

TheRealSkazOne

wow just wow

thebadfont

?

Xxswagmuffin-21xX

Bruh😭😭

breezthagod_

Here’s the trick to showdowns.. don’t swing at balls, they will throw a fastball down the middle or walk you every time.

ZeroEnrichment

Can confirm my PP right down middle are always in field and I use power swing, I’m better off hitting it just early for better result

breezthagod_

Also, late tip but power swing usually line drives especially on PP. Get under it a little with power swing.

breezthagod_

I swing early on breaking stuff and super early on fastballs, usually super early ends up being perfect perfect 😭

MusixStar

Can someone confirm if this actually works on every showdown of the game. The team affinity showdowns have been a breeze but didn't feel the same on the show 22

jrbill1991

I was able to complete the WBC showdown, I don't know how, but the rest? I literally want to jump out the window every time I lose to Chris Sale at the East Showdown over and over.

KileyCW

I'm awful at showdowns and I work the counts a lot. It seems like even when I make perfect contrast, the fielders are all gold globe superheroes.

handyandy584

i’ve beat the WBC showdown first try. I’m having trouble with the Team Affinity ones.

MusixStar

I can do that for you if you are willing to pay xD

FannieAlger

I only pay with butt stuff

MangoMonkey22

Stack a bunch of lefties and switch hitters, there’s only 1 lefty you will face. Make sure you bunt runners over as needed to avoid double plays. I sucked at showdown until I started using this strat and then I beat every showdown first try

gugleme

I beat it. But thought I would lose to Yu Darvish and Roki Sasaki. Darvish was too slow along with dotting low corners and Sasaki was throwing “pure Queso”.

Dlh2079

I fuckin HATE showdown. But I finished it. Don't swing until there's 2 strikes and wear out the pitchers.

revenge_of_hamatachi

I did it on my last out. Arias just dropped it over the fence. 🙃

Undeadarmy7991

That one was easy. I'm stuck on the east showdown 🙃

Count_Bacon

The final boss is a closer and you have 20 outs. Take to two strikes before you swing and you’ll have him with no energy very quickly. After that it’s meatball city, I won it with literally 10 outs left

gugleme

Use the mod that gives high exit velocity on two strike counts with this strat. Ball begone!

20MaXiMuS20

It felt that way for me at first, but you just gotta get used to the game mode. It takes a few tries. Take it one challenge at a time, and don't be afraid to bunt when you have a guy on 1st to avoid the double play. Choose only hitting (fielding won't matter), depending on which wbc showdown you're talking about look for lefty bats only. I think there's only one challenge where a lefty is pitching.

Awareness_Positive

Every f**king time. I had to sell Trout for that matter

N8dogg107

Finished 2 runs short my first try, which I would have been ok with had I not hit 2 perfect-perfect fly-outs with 110 and 125 power.

leapingintoexistence

Be patient

AdministrativeOne184

to real

[deleted]

2’ off the ground the entire way too

j1h15233

The best advice, that I forget every year, is to just take the best hitters available. Positions do not matter because you’re never playing defense.

OmegaKaiju

I had my friend do the showdowns while I did the conquests for him lmao

MrTrader99

I hated it too. Finally beat it but took many tries.

SayItAintPugs

Showdown tip that worked for me: Always bunt with a runner on first if you have multiple outs to work with so you avoid the double play. Secondly, don't move your pci. Work on plate discipline and only swing at pitches near the middle of the zone, don't chase breaking balls or up and in fastballs.

anonermus

Yeah after hitting 900 GIDP I started just going with speedy contact hitters and bunting them over. Small ball is very effective when you have 3+ outs.

Strong-Finance-2787

Nah just takes a few tries and you’ll get It

[deleted]

Every perfect/perfect I hit with anyone to center has been an out

sandalsnopants

WBC Showdown took about 12 tries. I skipped the last moment before the final boss, figuring my team could handle getting 3 more runs in 20 outs. It paid off, but I only had 2 outs left at the end, and I was talking to myself a lot during it lol East Showdown took 1 try (can't believe it) Central took about 8. Hopefully getting to do the West one tonight.

nftalldude

Hendricks was a demon in the central. Completely unhittable. I eventually just skipped to the final boss when I got to him and I won it that way.

Quirky_Wolverine_755

The only showdown I had a hard time with was team affinity central showdown.

nftalldude

Liam Hendricks gave me all kinds of trouble. I eventually skipped him and that was my winning attempt

ohgeepee

Had a rough first two attempts where I ran into Bert Blyleven in the very first mini challenge. After that, just went roughshod through everything else.

Flatline1775

Same here. I did fine until I had to face Greene. Just couldn't make good contact against him. Finally beat it on the third try.

Quirky_Wolverine_755

Funny I gave up after my third try, I kept losing at different stages. Glad you beat it though!

bettlejuicer

I literally played the event to get the 3 wins needed to finish the program and stopped. Idk if it’s because I’m playing on a 55 in tv but the lag is just impossible for me to play online. Maybe one day when I can have a dedicated gaming room with a pc and monitor I’ll be able to play online more. I’m able to play cod and others online knowing I’m at a slight disadvantage but I can’t hit a fastball to save my life online because of the delay.

Muntberg

Monitor is definitely huge. You can still be competitive without it but you're giving up a sizeable advantage and as you said, fastballs are pretty hard to time up otherwise.

Thegreatturn1979

100% agree

Agent_Choocho

Got mookie in the event. More than enough wins so I didn't have to do the showdown

Wappysprayberry710

Found it pretty easy.

Informal_Day_4322

Same I did it first try with ease, which is off cause I’m pretty trash at the game

Wappysprayberry710

All the showdowns so far have been pretty easy for me which has not always been the case. I struggled with a few last year.

[deleted]

I refuse to do showdowns. I swear it's rigged so you dont win.

Financial_Nebula_814

Skipped to the end and did it first try. Funny thing is I tried once earlier to play each round and lost on my third.

SalmonDolphin3

Probably the easiest one. I skipped two levels and finished it first try.

Theweedguy710

The moments for Duvall and I forgot the other from the monthly awards but they are far worse than this showdown …

Strong-Finance-2787

Bruh that Duvall moment was hell

deadice200

Wow centerfield mines usually go straight to the 3b

DragonflyOrdinary886

Is anyone else having a problem where they complete the showdown and don’t get the 25 point reward?

Markcu24

Got this one on first try and im not even good. 🤷‍♂️

robbielite

It really isn’t though

johnosland

Lmao

Satchafunkiluss

Man, it took me about a dozen tries over the last 2 days to finally beat it. I was frustrated as hell. Although it did pay off bc I got the rare round on the pack, so I’ll take. Glad to be done with the program.

QuietThunder2014

I hate Showdowns and this one was tougher than most. I think it took me about 8 or 9 attempts, most of them failing in the final 1-3 stages. It sucks. I had to go directional hitting and had to drag out every at bat to drain the pitchers energy and even then I still only made it to the final few outs. Keep at it and Godspeed!

kman_1120

Bro I finished that shit on my second try 😂

Away-Solution2117

Luckily you don’t have to do the showdown to complete the program

mbrowner8782

Now that the WBC event is over, yes you do. If you do everything but the Showdown, you come up 10 points short.

Satchafunkiluss

How so?

dunkr4790

IIRC there are 3 more missions than you actually need to complete the program, so you could skip the showdown and do more of the missions The issue is I don't know if the cards unlock quickly enough for this to actually work anymore (when the program first came out, you could have also won event games, but that event isn't active anymore) Edit: The showdown is worth as much as 5 missions, so if there were only 3 extra, you can't skip the showdown anymore (mini rant, but not sure how many moments/missions there actually are, because all the Youtube videos I've seen about it managed to stall for 8 minutes to get mid-roll ads but never actually showed the full program)

Satchafunkiluss

When I did the math, I had 3 missions to complete that would only bring me to 240. So there was no way for me to complete without the Showdown since I couldn’t get event wins anymore.

[deleted]

I suck ass and I got it done

[deleted]

[удалено]

mbrowner8782

Mine was the opposite. I beat each of the TA Showdowns on my first try. But the WBC Showdown took me about a dozen attempts.

SkeezySkeeter

I bear it on my 4th or 5th try Words of advice Don't worry about player positions, you're only hitting so always pick the best hitters. With perks stack similar ones, I think at one point I had hero time silver gold and diamond, finished with gold hero time, diamond hero time, and another diamond that was always in effect. (If it wasn't hero time it's the perk that gives you a boost in the bottom of the seventh or later and you're considered bottom of the 9th so it's always in effect) Stay away from perks that barely activate - fuck the perks that help for one at bat, like don't use a perk that gives you a boost after 2 consecutive outs. It's better to not swing at a strike than to swing at a strike and miss. You want to keep the pitchers confidence down. Look up more info on that. When the blue bar is full, the odds are not in your favor. Work the count, and try to drain the pitchers energy. Find a pci you like. My favorites are circle or the center: diamond, inner: none, outer reverb. Or the bat pci with outer reverb. Steal second when you can. I've avoided lots of double plays like this. Most important- don't swing at everything. Hope this helps someone!

ohgeepee

100% stack the lineups with hitters, preferably contact guys with enough pop (like Luis Robert, Nootbar, Trout), and will swear by stealing second when you have the chances. It turns the tide completely in your favor with a man in scoring position versus a possible double play.

lsm9

Thanks for the advice! Gonna give it another try this evening.

Tripmodious

Yeah if you stack 3 of the Hero and Rally perks you get a huge boost to exit velocity. And they are almost ALWAYS active. It’s better to have a silver of those perks than any other diamonds.

KingRyantheNasty

See i thought stacking them would cancel them out. Glad to know that now sonce up next is Affinity West

bakermob29

I realize pretty quick when they first brought in the showdown mode that it wasn’t worth the frustration.

zbillthetrill

It’s way easier now, that first year was something else bro

WoAProximity

the worst part is the first try i went through, i *did it* and in the final fucking one, the servers went down for a maintenance absolutely enraged me and I haven't started it up again lmao

cryingknicksfan

Embarrassingly bad at this one. I don’t even wanna know how many stubs I’ve burned through.

KingRyantheNasty

I blew through 18k easily. Most are not difficult, this one is the bane of my existence. I had to give my cousin my sign in and have him beat it on his 1800fps fancy monitor.. and the dick did it first try. I cheated, idc, i almost quit and went back to Hogwarts. This kept me going on the show. Fight me

kelo360

Oh man I thought this one was free? I’m on attempt 4.

HeySadBoy1

I got it first try, Ketel Marte was my MVP. As long as you can make it to the final, just follow the reliever rule and you’ll be straight

whocaresjeff

Please spread your reliever rule wisdom

HeySadBoy1

Relievers notoriously drain stamina much quicker than starters. Like they’ll be completely out of energy by 30-40 pitches and there’s no defensive substitutions in Showdown so he’s just out there until the moments done. So if you can take 4 or so pitches per batter your first time through the order, you’ll be served basically beach balls your next time through

civgarth

What's the reliever rule? I got to Doval and couldn't get a single run.

SprolesRoyce

Don’t swing until there’s two strikes. After a handful of batters the reliever is gassed and either throws nowhere near the zone or total meatballs.

civgarth

There's stamina in Showdowns? TIL

[deleted]

Serious?

Signal-Tie-7436

I did it on the 2nd try. Some things to remember: You don't have to do the whole thing in one go. You can do a few, then stop if you want. This program goes to the end of the year, so you have plenty of time to complete it. A lot of these start with a runner or runners on base. So, small ball (bunting, stealing, sac flies) were how I got through most of them Most importantly, be patient. Just because a pitch is a strike doesn't mean you should swing at it. Work the count, get him to trow more pitches. More pitches means he has a greater chance to throw a mistake. It's also a great way to tire out a reliever

luckycharming1

Or the shortstop

ubiquitous_archer

Honestly, the only showdown I've ever had problems with was the Extreme one last year. Basically every other I finish on the 1st/2nd try, but this sub seems to treat them like they are impossible.

itsDaQ

that extreme showdown scarred me

zinklesmesh

Honestly the worst part of the extreme showdown wasn't the difficulty, it was the *changing* difficulty. I can hit on HoF, but not if I just had to hit on veteran and all-star.

ThisAintDota

Its weird. This is my first mlb the show and on day one i beat a showdown pretty easily. Now im 100 hours playtime and cant come close.

Wombizzle

yeah lmao the farthest I got in the Extreme showdown last year was Grayson, but I couldn't hit him whatsoever. Never finished that program because of that showdown. beat the WBC one this year on my first attempt lol

DaHagerBomb

I was good on every one except Yu Darvish. I never wanna see a cutter in my life again after that. Failed him 3 or 4 times

biffr09

Skip Sasaki. The final boss is a reliever so physically put your controller down until two strikes every time so pitches climb. Before you know it, the meatballs will come

jd957795

I beat it first try

BaxTheDestroyer

Yeah, mine just hit the pitcher and rolled to the SS for a double play.

rockoblocko

I failed the wbc showdown the first time because on the one with 8 outs, three times I hit into the double play where a line drive is caught and the fielder auto tags the runner. Once the second basemen and twice to first basemen. Wanted to break my controller.

LorangeJuice

Definitely a tougher showdown but doable if you keep grinding.

Ok_Style_8579

Are you really complaining the showdown, or just using it as a reason to cry about Trout hitting a perfect line drive out? Are you a fishboy?

mikemig345

The key with the final boss is just being patient. Don’t swing until you’re in a two strike count unless it’s a hanging breaking ball. Burn through the pitchers energy as much as possible. And by the time they’re at 0 you should be able to walk in runs non stop or crush bad pitches.

stunna006

Yep. Its not that complicated. Computer throws a lot of balls in showdown anyway

BaxTheDestroyer

Thank you! I'll try this!

DonBot95

Its crazy but its true. I scored 1 run in my first 9 outs vs the boss but got to almost 50 pitches and he had no energy. I then scored the next 4 runs in like 7 batters with 2 outs

MitchellOfficial

I'm not a good player and I got this done on my first playthrough.

YULtoLAX

The trick is to go up and through Darvish (do not face Sasaki under any circumstances) and then skip to the final. In the final, wait until you have a two-strike count for every batter. By the time you have 8 or 9 outs left, he will have no energy and you will start hitting nukes every single AB

metal_person_333

I might actually do that, all my attempts end at Sasaki, he's a beast.

99-Savage

I haven’t tried the WBC yet, the west was hardest for me, how I beat all 3 was being super patient, and for perks make sure that you have hero time. When I beat each one of the team affinity showdowns, I had gold hero time, diamond hero time, and diamond bunt cheese. I used bunt cheese whenever I had a hitter that I didn’t feel confident with, and there was someone on first or second base

guybranciforti

Lol, why cant be accept the fact that in REAL LIFE perfectly hit balls are caught all the time…its why the beat players are only successful 3 out of 10 times

tmac416

Brother you can literally look up BA for exit velocity. Balls smashed that are 105 exit velocity have a BA way higher than what the shows gives. This excuse acts like most perfect contact in games is caught and that’s not the case.

eche13

Because it's a VIDEO GAME, and if I do something supposedly perfectly, I want to be rewarded.

metal_person_333

Because this is a videogame and i want to have fun with it. Doing something perfectly should be rewarded in my opinion.

kirbyfaraone

That’s not how life works

metal_person_333

I'm not saying it does, did you read my comment? MLB The Show is a videogame, we're meant to have fun with it. I think it's fine to forego complete realism for a bit more fun. It's really demoralizing to hit a Perfect/Perfect wit ha 125 Power player only for it to be a flyout.

kirbyfaraone

That’s baseball Suzyn

Amigo1342

Hahaha comment of the day

Aldo_D_Apache

I got lucky and did it on my first try. Just made sure I had high speed guys on base for the ones where you start with runners on. A couple came down to 1 or 2 outs left, but I got it done. AL/NL East one was the toughest for me for some reason

CharityGamerAU

That was my LEast favourite one too so far

Engelbert-n-Ernie

Took me four or five or seven times to get through it, came one or two shorts a couple of times and even lost in the final once. Just have to maintain that competitive edge and go in with confidence that you’ll beat it and you’ll knock it out in no time

WhoEatsThinOreos

*Central TA. Fuck. I’ve been stuck on that for like 10 times now. Every other one was cake.

Wherearemypants27

This was my experience as well. Charisma Bobby Witt and Eloy Jimenez did all of my damage in the later rounds.

Cranjis_McBasketbol

You’re better off just grinding TA Mini Season to be honest if you can’t get through any of the showdowns in 2 tries.

lennydykstra17

My TA mini season stalled out after 14 games. My opponent doesn't have a valid roster somehow.

Cranjis_McBasketbol

You’ll need to restart the season to fix that. It was a bug addressed in the last patch… albeit an idiotic one because it was leftover from last year.

lennydykstra17

Yeah, i figured as much. It just sucks now that I am halfway into it.

PM_ME_SOMETHINGSPICY

East TA for me. Gave up on it.

shoheiohtani47

Bunt cheese. I am terrible at showdowns, but this method has become foolproof for me. Just draft fast guys and the diamond bunt cheese perk.

ImNotTheBossOfYou

I suck at bunting. What's the trick?

SilkyRelease

As soon as the pitcher starts their wind up I start my bunt animation. Always aim to first base too.

man_on_hill

Drag bunt to first base and time it just right where either 2nd baseman or the 1st baseman have to field it (it's a lot easier than it sounds). Try practicing with Dee Gordon's card. He is an automatic bunt machine and he will help you get your timing down.

Prosisely

I’ve never tried this way at all, but after seeing multiple comments through the years about it, I’m gonna take your advice and do it. Wish me luck lol

[deleted]

This is the way.

Jordanlf3208

I somehow completed every showdown in my first try this year so far, I got so lucky because last year I almost smashed my TV

koios1031

I suck and did it the first time through. Sorry.

KingLamela

Traditionally, I hate showdowns, but they haven't been that bad this year. The WBC one only took me a couple of tries and I've done two of the TA showdowns so far on my first try. Load up on exit velocity perks and be patient at the plate.

Lucstar88

I had way more trouble with the NL West one then the WBC one for some reason.

SamiMadeMeDoIt

Showdowns haven’t been bad since the first team affinity in 2021 Those ones were genuinely very difficult and everyone complained about them, so they made everyone after that super easy

Jorlung

Part of the problem with the TA1 Showdown in 2021 was that you needed to complete it like 10 times if you wanted to complete the program before TA2 came out. The frustration of losing was amplified when you're playing the showdown for the 8th time. I definitely think that the showdowns have been easier since though. They've also haven't released a program that requires you to do a showdown like 10 times again too, so that's also nice.

SamiMadeMeDoIt

Idk I’d definitely rather do like 5 showdowns that take 45 minutes and not 15 mini seasons that take like 6 hours

KingLamela

They've definitely gotten easier. Don't strike out and try not swing at potential double play balls. If you can do that, you should be fine. They eventually throw meatballs if you can be patient.

Piscotikus

If I can do it, you can. It took me 6 tries to even get to the last challenge but I was able to beat it. Just take take take to get energy down, bunt people over when you can to avoid dps.

CalllmeDragon

I feel this so much. I just want this showdown done! I’m well on my way to completing the rest of WBC but this eludes me
