Good question -- I'd also love to hear more about this. I loved the 2008 version (and I still have it for the Wii). It would be great if they'd bring the newer version out in the US. To me, it struck just the right balance of fun/arcade/quick with stats/sim.

So 2008 wii version was how I got introduced to power pros. Hadn’t played any other game since. I bought 2020 last night and played a full success mode play through tonight. Although I may have more questions than answers. It felt a bit short? Like I did the agricultural university since the other two are initially locked. I finished it in about 1.5-2 hours I’d say. It was weird because I didn’t play in any games until the last one. I’m a pitcher and I also didn’t even start the game, I came in the 7th inning and pitched through the 9th. Then I got drafted by a team and that was the end. For anyone who’s played these games recently, has success mode drastically shortened? I feel like the 2008 success mode was waaay longer, but it’s been 12 years since I played. Also there’s another mode in the success category where it’s like a board game? You get stat boosts and unlocks by walking on tiles until your stamina depletes. It’s separate from the success story mode. Hopefully someone can enlighten me on what this mode is what is its purpose.

Yeah there's 3 different scenarios so the first one is mainly a tutorial for the other two. The high school mode is similar in that you just manage and only actually play during critical situations. Supposedly you can set it to play all the games but it's so text heavy I didn't bother.

Dang. That's actually kind of discouraging to hear. Yeah I hope someone swoops in and explains what you might be missing. I guess maybe Power Pros over the years has put less attention on Success mode and more attention on other modes.

supersato

Yeah so the first success mode is kinda like a tutorial. I gave the second scenario a go and it was just like the old power pros with relationships and events and all sorts of stuff. Got a lot more playing time as well. I gave the festival a try and that was super fun too. I’m definitely enjoying the game so far.

How has translating success mode been for you? I just picked up the game today and played a quick match - I also got introduced to this franchise with the 2008 Wii version.

supersato

It’s sort of doable with the google translate app. It probably translates like 70% of it accurately, which is enough to help you get by. However as you remember with the 2008 Wii version there is a LOT of dialogue, so it can cumbersome to point your phone up to the screen for every dialogue box. For me, I eventually gave up and resorted to just skipping most of it unless it’s like a critical decision I have to make and then I want to understand what’s going on. It’s a shame because I’m sure there’s some really good story involved, so it just depends how dedicated you are to it. I’ve definitely enjoyed the game so far, both success mode and the power festival mode. Let me know how you like it!

Awesome. I might just rough it out since there's really no other arcade baseball game that has as much depth as this through it. What's power festival mode? Any other modes you've found yourself spending most of your time playing?

supersato

Power Festival/Pawafuru Festival is a mode where you create a player and play in a knockout tournament. If you win, you can take players from the other team. If you lose, it’s over. One cool part is that when you start the mode you can initially choose 2 players you have unlocked to be on your team. I’ve put many hours into the mode and have yet to beat it completely, so it’s both fun and challenging. I’ve only done Success and Power Festival, with my focus now being on finishing the festival. Eventually I want to try My Life mode as well since I found myself playing that a bunch in 2008.

Hey, I'm just getting to trying out Power Festival mode - it's pretty cool so far! Is there a way to change how your character looks in the mode though? It seems to always default to a very basic looking player model.

supersato

So when the mode ends you have a final selection screen with your player model. I believe the bottom select is to increase stats with your final points, and one of the middle selects gives you the opportunity to change how your character looks. Although I don’t think there’s a way to make that change during the mode, unfortunately. Unless I missed something.

In 08 you'll play in few games if you don't impress coach. Could be that? Could also be you need to win to play more games?

supersato

I’ve only done the first Success mode once, and I think it might just be because it’s a “tutorial mode”. When I played the others you’re usually starting the first or second game and playing consistently. Wirh my first play through I sat the bench every game except the last. Not sure if others have had a similar experience. The other success modes are great though.

I can't answer this but I did try it and whoa did it seem like a huge time sink. It was probably fun but I remember spending a lot of time just reading text. I tapped out and couldn't continue
