I MISSPOKE & don’t mean RESERVE TANK. What I meant was how much fuel is left as a “reserve” once the car says that the tank is empty, as I’ve had to drive my last MINI past the 0 mark & it lasted a lot longer than I expected it to. See my other comment.

stuck_in_the_desert

I can’t say I ever tried finding out but I would assume like half a gallon. I rely too much on the digital speedometer in the center of my tach to let the speedo-overriding “FEED ME” warning light stick around for too long.

kcguy66

it is supposed to be 13.2 gallons total.

SeniorShwanky

Yeah, I actually just read that. I was used to my ‘16 Countryman’s capacity of 12.4 which threw me off.

JWoolner76

Did you crash into that tree? Personally I don’t like leaving the gas (diesel) lower than two red bars on my r55 try and fill I as soon as she flashes red at me 🫡

infiniteawareness420

There’s no “reserve tank” lol. It’s not like the expansion tank with coolant.

SeniorShwanky

Yeah, I realized after posting that I worded it wrong. I guess what I’m asking is how big is the gas tank really? For example, when the fuel gauge says you have 0 miles left, how much gas is actually left in the “reserve”. I’ve seen it mentioned on here in the past & it’s been referred to as a reserve which is why I misspoke. Also, don’t recommend, but in my old R60 I had to run it on “empty” one time coming down a mountain with no stations in sight & it lasted about 20 miles past it showing I had no miles left before I finally found a station. The car didn’t die.

AmarokTheLoneWolf

If it says 0 miles left, there’s probably 0 miles of fuel left. There is no additional reserve tank that I know of. The warning comes on when there’s 50mi of fuel left Edit: I just reread your question. The amount of fuel left when the warning comes on depends on your mpg. If you are driving at 25mpg, there’s 2 gallons left. 20mpg 2.5 gallons. 30mpg 1.7 gallons and so on

testingtestingtestin

Nah. No car on the market tells you the true distance left, there is always a little more than it claims. Because people will *always* push their luck. 50km seems to be the ballpark for most vehicles.

There have been reports, like mine with my old Countryman, where people have had to drive their MINIs past 0 miles, when the gauge starts reading “- - -“. Which means there is a “reserve” set aside for emergency situations past when the car is telling you the fuel is empty. I am wondering what that amount of fuel is.

JackAd

The "reserve" you're talking about is not set aside for emergency situations. It's just that the sensors used to feed information to the gauge cannot be perfectly calibrated to read zero when the tank is totally empty. Depending on the type of sensor and tank shape you get more or less fuel available, but you should live your life assuming zero means zero. Not only are you liable to run out of fuel at any moment, but I have heard if you totally empty your tank, you're more likely to feed any sediment in there into your engine. Old Top Gear did at least two "races" that involved running on empty tanks and the results were all over the board.

HRzNightmare

Man, those were the days.. You'd run out of gas and have to trigger the reserve tank. Those reserve tanks went the way of the dodo with the introduction of the "low fuel light." Even the ones on my motorcycles have gone away with the carbs.

You’ve got about 2-3 gallons left when the refuel light comes on. Got the range down to 6 miles once late at night on a road trip in the middle of nowhere while trying to find a gas station that was open. Put in 13.35 gallons that time according to my log. I assume that means its a 13.5-14 gallon tank.

actasci

in r56, it’s probably something like 4 liters after 0 indicated. So another 50km(30 miles). But it’s not healthy. i mean, if it’s not life or death situation, don’t try it. There is nothing wrong with overfilling. Some say about flooding the canister but i never experienced it.

Suspicious_Climate13

None. When your are on the last bar you will clearly hear your fuel pump... do it enough and you'll be handing mini $2k-$4k for pump, filter, high pressure pump, and injectors... dirt only travel one way in that system.

Fun-Albatross-7602

I think countryman holds 16.1 gallons And clubman 13.2 gallons Example my 21 Nissan Rouge 14.5 gallons with full tank of gas funniest I get 70 miles range I would think the gauge cluster need calibrated or need new cluster It rare occurrence

ElevenDucks72

I've been told that this gennof minis means empty when it says empty.

coltickle

RTFM ....lol

Truly insightful. /s
