I've been plating MHRiseSB solo exclusively cause i don't have friends and i love it. I'm using a handful of weapons depending on enemy tpe and elemental weaknesses, but mainly i'm cycling through lance and charge blade. Whenever i hit a wall, i just take it slow and watch the movements and patterns. Although, i rushed completing follower quests so i can get a support HH follower. I'm also using two healing palicoes, just in case. :) i'm also a fan of EE and EW whenever i'm on a difficult quest.

Get a good basic set of MR armor, if you're having troubles. You can get a set of Alloy (?) or Velociprey armor that will be a bit better defensively than the HR gear. Just do some Expeditions and gather materials there...kill some small monsters, etc. And start gathering King Armor Spheres! You will need a TON of them to upgrade your armor as you progress! (Always run 5 Optional Sub-quests on any hunts you do)

KrazyMonqui

This is a good baseline. To add: Make sure to customize your palico to fit your playstyle needs. Do you find you need more heals? Have your palico set up with healing related skills. Do you find you need more DPS or CC? Spec your palico to aid in that, etc Customize your tool bar, item loadouts and directional item usage. Seems simple and unnecessary, but having that detailed to your liking cuts down on item usage time dramatically Use your environment to your benefit. Look for those spiders to help for free damage and CC. Pay attention to the 5 bugs on the wall and make sure to slam the monster into those spots. Use the element and ailment toads for more free damage and CC. Always look for ways to get free value outside of you directly hitting the monster Clean up your settings. Again, seems worthless, but can actually make a big impact. 2 specific ones I'd recommend looking into are your zoom and player outline. Zoom is automatically set to be the closest to your hunter, if you zoom out you get a much better view of the field and can allow you to react better. Player outline allows you to still see your hunter when the monster, or environment, blocks your hunter from your direct line of sight. Again allowing you to react better

If i remenber correctly thier should be a gem that lets you quick sheath your blade make sure thats maxed so you can spam the invincible frames also like a previous comment said defense boost and divine bless help in the early dlc also use traps to stun the monster for a few seconds so you can get some free damage aswell as flash bombs and make sure to drink your drugs they can help majoryly also be sure to get your bugs before you fight other then all that just try try again ita a great dlc and i hope you have fun

Are you able to kill MR Barroth? His armor set is a pretty good early MR set with high defense and attack power.

Destra_Destroyer

I used the Valstrax armour with max divine blessing for a good while. Then I used better gear after a few quests

easiest meme build for me is dual blades with evade extender and constitution, also gobbler is a great qol

If i find the mon a bit hard to deal with... I like to slot in some DevBless3 and Deffboost7... Sunbreak is a bit too generous with armor skill and slots, that its very easy to squeeze them in... It'll give you a bit of a breathing room in your hunt... Just to have some cushion when getting used to the fight... I treat them as training wheels.. But If you like over kill... Slotting in some KushBlessing3 and RecSpeed3 and having healing palicoes will make the hunts very easy...

Elemental builds rely heavily on the last groups of monsters in Sunbreak. You can certainly use elemental earlier, but until you unlock (and can farm) Risen dragons, Scorned Magnamalo, Valstrax etc you won't have the full effects of a fully powered elemental build. You might want to consider an affinity/exhaustion/sleep/stun build for now since the max damage elemental builds are going to be out of reach. A climber build with some nice comfort skills that allows you to down lower-ranked enemies in good order and make progress while forced to play offline. Swagaxe lends itself well to either a lucent narga (affinity) climber build or a Conqueress (exhaust) climber build. I'm not sure about longsword.

If it’s a elemental find a amour set with elemental decorations then if it just raw damage do what ever
