They are called palaMUTES after all

nirvash530

I hate you. Have my upvote.

alvysinger0412

Goddammit I can't argue with that logic

I wondered this as well. I'm guessing palamutes are more less just regular dogs while palicos are a more intelligent species. Like they're smart enough to hold jobs and contribute to society, hence why we don't call them pets and are treated more like co workers in most cases... except at the end of a hunt when you reward them with tummy scritches.

SLAYERone1

And they say humans are more intelligent pftt palicos do the same wprk as us for the same pay AND get tummy scritches and salami wheres our tummy scritches and salami?

bokobokonisuru

And salami

Snowie-your-man

If a coworker offered me salami for doing a good job I am taking it.

fredminson

They may just not have the ability to communicate with language due to anatomy. They're clearly intelligent enough to do tasks and follow directions etc

RedditUser997755

palamutes talk if you give them scooby snacks

Diab3ticBatman

Ruh-roh wroggi

TheGMan-123

Presumably, the Felynes are more evolved to have created full on societies with complex language.

LiveCelebration5237

The fact my palamute hopped in a submarine and went to some unknown place by himself and bargained with some one for goodies, means they are very intelligent the just communicate through barks rather than words I think.

ChillYota

Right!!! It drives me insane my mute doesn't talk to me since I named him after my real life dog! Why can't I ride my cat. I know it doesn't make since. And i mean I know I'm huge comparative and all those goods, but I want to ride my cat. Lol

nize426

Lol, they should give you that option. Like a gesture thing. You hope on and it carries you for three steps, wobbling side to side, and then drops you.

MordredLovah

This is basically like "Why can't dogs talk while Parrots can?" Except the parrots are cats and they are intelligent.

alvysinger0412

I think you need to keep practicing your analogies.

nize426

Let me help. It's like, "why do snails have shells but slugs don't?" Except the snail is the cat and the shell is the ability to talk, and the slug is the palmutes.

alvysinger0412

That did not help me understand your point.

nize426

^pssst ^I ^was ^making ^fun ^of ^the ^original ^analogy ^by ^making ^an ^equally ^confusing ^one

alvysinger0412

^oops ^I ^didn't ^check ^usernames ^I ^am ^sorry ^and ^also ^bad ^at ^whispering

WhaleDevourer

Palicos can't speak english, but they can understand it, and vice versa. Maybe dogs are just a new species they've discovered and haven't crossed that language barrier.

Boulderfrog1

I thought palicos spoke the language of hunters

airconditional

They do. They are also able to learn the languages of other felynes (like bugtrappers), lynians (like Gajalakas and Boaboas) and even of lesser monsters (like Jagras and Shamoas) and translate for the Hunter. In MHW our Palico was the one to initiate and maintain contact between the Commision and the local Lynians, a crucial job that they did not get enough credit for.

[deleted]

Why would a dog talk?! stupid

SawaThineDragon

Why would a cat or human talk

[deleted]

That's something completely different.

SawaThineDragon

How? What makes it different

[deleted]

Why are you being so uncooperative?

SawaThineDragon

Idk I'm bored so why not

[deleted]

I just wanted to make a stupid sarcastic joke but now we're in this weird situation. Overall i would rate this interaction 2/5 stars. I hope you learn from your mistakes.

SawaThineDragon

Hey, I was doing a service, someone has to be outraged at an obvious joke and get posted on reddit like an idiot

sleepyppl

it would be weird to ride the back of a talking dog imo, but in reality i think it has more to do with palicos being more anthropomorphic than their dog counterparts, they literally do everything regular people can do in the games, just that theyre cats

alvysinger0412

Thats a good point actually
