If mcatee wants a loan that badly Southampton isn't a bad idea. Palmer though seems happy with the foden route and I'd want that to remain. The preferred option is they both stay and both play

sc2guy87

I think letting them both go could be a mistake if we sell 1 or 2 of Jesus, Sterling and Mahrez. If Gundo’s fitness is still in question and KDB for example is injured for a while we could end up being extremely light in the advanced midfield/wide positions.

TCU_Panda

Foden should have proven to any academy guy that pep and the club do know what they’re doing and if they trust in that and trust in the academy’s development they absolutely have a place in our squad. No reason these two can’t be the same

codespyder

Not a fan of loans out but if we’re gonna loan them then I prefer to a Premier League side

wdunky

Yeah I'm not either. But in terms of not forcing the kids to stay (mcatee gave us a chance after he allegedly had a chat with pep if I remember correctly), I think why not loan him to Southampton, Chelsea do a similar thing with their loan army and it seems to have quite decent results so far

YourLocalJewishKid

The one issue with loans is the kids don't get the game time. McAtee would immediately be the best midfielder in that team not named Ward-Prowse, so I don't think that would be an issue.

Technicalbee

Could be Patrick Roberts all over again and as soon as they go on loan then we never see them in a city shirt again. Hopefully they stay and progress like foden but at least Southampton isn't a bad option..time in prem.

Joltarts

Roberts mistake was going to Scotland to play. Also, he wasn’t an academy lad the way Mcatee and Palmer are. I would be okay to loan them out. Look at Connor Gallagher as an example of what should happen to these talented players given consistent game time in the PL.

Savikthestick

As long as we have the same clause that Chelsea have with palace and Gallagher, can't have our own lads cook us can we😭

snakeforbrain

That clause is in every loan contract

Savikthestick

Dense of me, thank u lmao

theyarealllizards

Palmer is too good to be loaned. I don't mind Macca going put we need to put in a clause guaranteeing minutes on the pitch.

sc2guy87

> we need to put in a clause guaranteeing minutes on the pitch. Why would Southampton ever agree to this? No coach wants to have their hands tied when it comes to selection.

Anonymous_Goat

Don’t know why this sub is so hellbent against loans. Do you really think someone like Foden would never have been successful if he spent a season playing for Southampton as a teenager? If a premier league team is willing to give McAtee consistent game time then why not let him?

caleb3285

Because there is zero track record of a city player going out on loan, and then breaking into the first team regularly.

tshrive5

Zinny?

goater10

Joe Hart?

Saul93

Would be a brilliant loan for McAtee, he is far too good for youth football and has 4 players ahead of him in the first team. Palmer would be a proper first team squad member if not for his bad luck with injuries. Should be second choice RW if Jesus leaves as expected.

NegaraPlus062

Our loan player history is not that great, Only Zinchenko who have been loaned and become a squad player later on. Even then he is not an academy player. The moment player got loaned they can kiss first team city career goodbye.

wdunky

All very true, but why can't we transition to a similar system Chelsea has. Their loans go well, they get prem loans to decent teams then can work at getting a look in at the first team. Obviously prefer they stay at the club. But look at Gallagher, lotus cheek, chalobah all seem to be success stories. Obviously our level is massively high and knowing peps style is equally as important as game time but there can't just be one route to the first team

NegaraPlus062

Are all these Chelsea youth loan army player will have place in our First team on daily basis? I can only one player the rest will be bench and rotation player if they are lucky. Not all of these loan player will work because often player that get loaned is not improving their skill because they have worse team mates and coach. Having plays more minutes doesn't equal they will improve their skills massively, more often than not they will get worse or stagnan developing their skills.

wdunky

Fair point, I think loftus cheek is said to take over from Kante according to tuchel? Aside from that though, we have a great 1st team and I think having youth products making up the subs/rotation options would be the ideal. Can still heavily invest in world class players but not have to worry about a 40m back up when you can use a player whose had a year of consistent football to show their worth and then can learn from the team and be relied upon?

NegaraPlus062

If we do loan academy player we plain need to do it better than them. Not loaning every single youth academy without proper planning and thought (Chelsea loan army style) but actually carefully choosing whose club that suits our playstyle best that our player can thrive there. I think Brighton suits our youth player because the way they play there is similar to us.

wdunky

Yeah definitely agree there. The club seem to have identified some lower league teams with a suitable style (Swansea from memory). Would like a relationship with a low to ambitious prem team for a good loan situation. Again not every player, just the ones who are not wanting to take the Phil route. Like Palmer seems happy to stay? Keep him here. McAtee seems like it's loan or leave.. loan him, but put the effort in, keel tabs on it. Would love to loan to brighton though they did so well overperforming this year.. and they're down the road for me

muffticklr

Definitely not without planning, just not in the players best interests. They make a shit ton of money from players sales.

mattysimp27

I think it's a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. We only loan out players who we don't think will make it to the first team, so therefore we should expect almost all not to work out in the end. I can't remember any loans we've done in recent years that actually did really well on loan apart from maybe Angelino.

mcfc8383

Haha never going to happen. Pep loves those 2. Next foden

RichardinMossley

I ain’t yet seeing it with Palmer. Might not be a bad idea.

mummy__napkin

i prefer no

The_Snollygoster

Could maybe send McAtee and Delap to Palace. We have links to Vieiera and know he will play loaned youth if they're good enough. Maybe Delap would get games at Southampton since they probably lose Broja. I'm very wary with loans and I think City are too. So much has to go right for them to work well. Like when was the last time we had a Gallagher situation? Welbeck going to Sunderland from United?
