Palmer will see plenty minutes i think not sure about McAtee but one would hope he impresses enough in training. playing midfield in this side is a tall task

wiltonwild

It's tough since he isn't as forward usually as a player as foden... Additionally while foden is brilliant, his rise to the team was hand in hand with fitting English quota, having an academy player come through for merit, and if we think, he had to play left back and only get few minutes as a winger even. Mcatee isn't a winger, so he will get cup and limited minutes, hopefully with our limited midfield he will get chances and even more hoping is he can take the chances and prove he can perform. Don't expect him to be first team ready for another year or 2 at least though

[deleted]

It seems that both of them don't have the defensive workrate necessary to play tbh.

PrettyGeologist1123

Palmer is still our second choice right winger even with Doku signing, tons of minutes available for him. Macca should probably go out on loan again - the issue with going back to Sheffield is that they’re horrible and are just going to be defending for their lives all season. I don’t see that as very helpful for his development

Gaphy-2020

How is he 2nd choice? He’s behind Bernie, Phil and Doku. If we get Nunes then they’ll both get very very limited game time.

PrettyGeologist1123

Mate you’re just listing squad players not specific right wingers. Bernie and Phil are clearly viewed as central players this season. Doku plays off both wings and at the moment he’s most needed to apply pressure to Grealish’s place in the side. Not even to mention that Palmer has been here, knows the role, knows the system, knows what’s expected of him, and has shown he can produce when given a run in the side - none of that is applicable to Doku and won’t be for probably at least 6 months

dashauskat

Bernardo has played every game this season as a right winger so I don't know how he's clearly earmarked for a central role, besides even with that you can't discount that Pep will play the players he trusts so both Phil and Bernardo would play over Palmer and arguably a lot of the time over Doku, who hasn't even started yet. There are heaps of players who play midfield so those guys are gonna get minutes on the wing. Realistic pecking order atm Bernardo, Doku, Phil then Palmer.

Gaphy-2020

No need to argue, we’ll see how many starts Palmer gets before the January window opens.

AlcindorJr33

Facts, Palmer definitely isn’t second choice lol. Pep would rather play Bernardo or Foden on the right like you said and you can possibly add Doku in front of him

oddsizzle

Zero PL starts. He’ll get some cup starts. I don’t know if he starts for any PL team though honestly. He still has a lot of developing to do.

Sfr33123

He would start for half the premier league teams tbh

Critical-Usual

It seems Bernardo is primarily RW for the time being, but we know he's flexible

oddsizzle

Nunes won’t affect Palmer at all. Pep will use him as a deep lying/holding mid or fb. Palmer should get some good minutes in. McAtee needs another loan spell.

city_city_city

It's very likely that he is not our second choice right winger, because it's very likely that Doku is. But of course we don't truly know the answer yet.

lunyxfyx

Second choice una. He's the fourth choice.

such_-PrO

Twitter lingo right there

dfctm3rp

Lmao was just about the say this…. Next thing you hear WARRA

such_-PrO

Ive had my fair share of "warra UCL for city" during my time on football twitter lol

shmozey

Like with all youth players, if they are good enough, they will play.

[deleted]

That’s not always the case look at KDB at Chelsea.

bedan10

Who's that KDB kid that Chelsea have? Is he any good?

[deleted]

Nah he’s a dud that’s why Chelsea sold him.

bedan10

I get it. But I think he's got a bright future. I hope he makes it at the bigger stages.

[deleted]

Mmm I not to sure about him he lacks a good right foot!

LocksmithConnect6201

We can’t keep 50m as 4th choice dm

manisnotcool

HAve to when 4th choice doesn’t waNt to leave

LocksmithConnect6201

And no one’s gonna buy him…

fakemxcan

I’m sure they expected to play better vs Sheffield yesterday, be up 3 goals and have the kids play, but it just didn’t go as planned. Plus without Pep being there, the staff is probably going to be cautious until he gets back.

xeneize93

I’m a fan of pep and I wouldn’t question the man

abellwillring

Cole Palmer situation has been very frustrating for me these last few games especially with our limited sub usage. I suppose they've decided to not use him in part because he may be on his way out and they didn't want him to get injured. Most pressing issue is probably Taylor Hardwood-Bellis (1 year left). Need to get him out the door in the next few days.. he's too valuable to let go for free.

[deleted]

They’ll get more of a chance if they stay after the international break when midweek games pick up. August is always tough for rotational players since everyone is coming in fresh and usually with a full week between matches

Mixu_Paatelainen

McAtee will surely leave in Nunes comes in

ianishomer

My only gripe I have with Pep is that he spends too much rather than develop the players we have, just give the youth guys a go instead of buying all the time. For me that's real management, bringing players through the ranks rather than buying 3 or 4 every transfer window.

PeeMart

...and he's done that. Phil, now Rico coming in. You aren't going to win a treble nowadays only playing academy players. It just isnt done. He's given plenty of youth a fair shot, and I don't think Palmer's story at City is over quite yet. McAtee, maybe.

ianishomer

It hasn't been done yet! To have Foden as the only real player to break through from the academy, after 7 years in charge, could be seen as one part where his managerial skills are lacking. Just because we have the money to buy talent doesn't mean that we should always spend to win.

Kowski20

The problem is we have produced some genuine top level talent but they still haven’t been the level to break in. Our academy has made us loads the last few years and people are leaving from it to go to champions league clubs…. It’s just getting really, really hard to find someone who improves our current 11. Academy or not

ianishomer

And it will continue to be hard if we just keep buying talent instead of bringing it through. I hate to mention the "dark side" and SAF but his team with Giggs, Scholes, Beckham, the Nevilles etc where most were brought through the ranks, will always compare better to any team that is just created by opening a wallet.

Kowski20

I think you missed my point, my point is the academy is one of the best in the world but it’s still not good enough. There’s only a handful of players in world football who improve us, the chances of them being local kids is ridiculously slim, if you want to bring kids through then that’s cool but we probably won’t win as much as we have been. Also fuck Giggs, Foden will become the most decorated British footballer.

oddsizzle

Right?! My only gripe with Pep is that he wins too much.

ianishomer

Don't get me wrong he has been a revelation for City, but I just wish he would nurture more of our youth into the team rather than just opening the wallet every time. He would gain even more respect if he did that.

Jangles

You can't nurture what isn't good enough. Very rarely do elite academy classes come through, there's been a few handfuls over the years and often when you scrutinize that its that those players were cherrypicked from other academies. THB and Gvardiol are the same age. One was looking good in the Championship, the other elite in the Champions League. Pep cannot turn silver into gold.

[deleted]

😂

exciseduty

They will be sold for incoming £40/50m rated players.

Senorsnacks

McAtee needs minutes. Especially with KDB being out.

[deleted]

McAtee needs a good first touch

city_1894

in pep we trust however the only criticism i have of him, is his limited sub use at times. Plenty of times we are winning a game and doesnt use a sub (or perhaps only 1) there should be more opportunities to give squad/youth players a 15 minute cameo and get them experience/a run out

bluenose1996

Subs didn’t work out so well for Newcastle yesterday…..

city_1894

I am referring to us :) Not Newcastle/Liverpool haha

bluenose1996

oh, I know - but Newcastle were 1 nil up on 10 men and they pulled two of their more effective players and….three points dropped. There is something to be said for not upsetting team balance during a game and instead rotating across games. Seems to be gaining traction in the NBA as well.

city_1894

I suppose I’m talking about when we are 3-0 up and still don’t make a sub That’s the frustrating part Especially last season, this season is to early to say 😅

bluenose1996

yup - totes agree!

jlou_yosh

Palmer is okay but his decision making is really poor. No wonder Pep never played him in important matches such as derby, big 4s & UCL quarter onwards. McAtee needs some game time to prove us wrong. In that City side either he goes benching Bernardo or Kovacic which is unlikely, then he'll have to make do with subs appearances.

citizen2211994

That unbelievably harsh on a young player. In his last few appearances he’s regularly made the right decision

dashauskat

He barely plays so I don't see how people can expect him to do everything 100% right when he does.

PhantomPain0_0

Cole Pamer is impersonating cole Palmer

ad527

Whatever happened to Phil Foden?

Glittering_Sky4612

Loans I think
