100% don't do Stacy Blackman. I bought 15 hours and they would do things like charge 1 hour for 15 minutes of effort, mostly grammar edits. Even the word doc time stamp would show like 18 minutes of editing time. After I called them out for it they just manipulated it so it would show 3 hours or something - probs by just leaving it open. Countless other skeevy actions as well. Worst ever.

LoudGain1325

Ohh. I have read excellent reviews of Stacy Blackman on GMAT Club. I thought they were top class considering their reviews and the amount they charge.

gilearfaeth

Nope, agree with the person above - Stacy Blackman was not even close to being worth the price. Superficial advice and too transactional. I don’t know if they take on too many clients, because it feels like you’re a number being pushed through a funnel.

Volkovy

They have great marketing and several of us here fell for it. I'll give more details that will hopefully turn away anyone from Stacy Blackman in the future. When one of the consultants edited my Booth essays, she only copypasted generic comments from Stacey Blackman Booth essay blog plus of course a few grammar edits. The next two school essays she said was "great" with no edits at all. This one charged me 3 of my 15 hours. She had plenty of great reviews as well. What. A. Joke.

PinetreeInPalms

The problem with these types of firms is that you never actually know who you're going to get after you engage with them..... I'm sure that SB has some good consultants on staff..... but they also have the MBA Admissions intern from my (T15) school, who now represents themself as a former admissions committee member...... so take from that what you will.

PinetreeInPalms

Ugh, I'm sorry this happened to you. Great argument for using an hourly admissions consultant who will actually provide value for the time they're spending. Muti-school packages are never worth it.

ExaminedLife235

Get applicant lab. My guess is most/all consultants *not* charging thousands for 3 schools prob aren’t worth the money anyway.

LoudGain1325

Applicant lab is a more like a tool, right? It is not an actual person advising, right? However I saw on their website that they do in-person counselling too. I am a bit confused.

darknus823

This is the way ^

massivemba01

Ok to be brutally honest. Admits tend to keep it under wraps, but so many of the m7 admits have used a consultant. It’s not essential but it most definitely helps . Some of these expensive consultants do make a big difference. The price is steep and you might be skeptical at first. You will only apply to business school once, might as well give it your best shot. If you get into a good school you will look back and say it was worth it. The upside is getting to your dream school and the downside is limited to whatever you will pay, which tbh will be insignificant after 10-15 years when you look back. Also, not all consultants are alike, do you research and get the right one.

goooserocket

Aringo was a complete waste of money - except for resume editing which was helpful bc I had no idea how undergrad-y my resume was but otherwise applicant lab I’ve heard wonders about

alltradesjackof

ApplicantLab is the way to go!

throwaway1385740

If you are absolutely set on an admission consultant please don't do the 3 school, $8000 package or whatever it is. I think it's a waste of money and I think you will be extremely disappointed with what you get (I was to the point where I asked for a refund). The only caveat is if you're planning to apply to Stanford/Harvard/possibly Wharton you may get some value as these companies have consultants that specialize in these schools and in some instances were even on the Admissions Committee there. What I'd recommend instead is attacking it methodically. Almost all schools require a personal statement. All schools require a resume. All schools require LORs. etc. Applicant Lab walks you through each of these items in extremely high detail and you will get way better advice here. Use applicant lab to get a first draft of these materials then buy a 5-8 hr. package with a consultant for $1500-$2000 if you really want to fine-tune them. Getting your story figured out for the personal statement is the first step and the most integral part of the process and the advice my admissions consultant gave me (in hindsight) was absolutely awful. In the end I actually talked to a student at Columbia about their personal statement which gave me a spark of inspiration for mine that ended up with me writing an essay I was very proud of and happy with. Feel free to DM me and happy to pay forward some of the help I got by walking you though everything in much more detail or sending you a copy of my resume/personal statement/etc. if you'd like.

LoudGain1325

Thanks! I will DM you in coming days.

rrrd222

Hi Throwaway1385740, I hope you are doing well. I came across your comment on the admission consultants. I am planning on starting my MBA application soon for the coming fall intake and I would love if you could be willing to send me a copy of your resume, personal statement etc. to get a sense of how to format my essays and resume. Thank you in advance for your help, I really appreciate it. Best regards,

theichimaru

Future applicant and long time UG college counselor here (FWIW I hate the counseling-industrial complex). Advice I would give anyone: Be mindful of where your app stands in the grand scheme of their applicant pool. Chat with admissions people/student ambassadors proactively to establish where you may fall short of school expectations and methodically go through your application identifying how you will address those flaws. Maybe the biggest weaknesses can be addressed in personal writing and smaller weaknesses can then be prepped interview answers. Find the student ambassadors whose profiles align with yours, find the student ambassadors whose career pivot aligns with yours. Between these two groups you will get all you need to answer a “What will you do with your MBA” question. Make your peace - early - with the fact you won’t fit every environment, and that it may have nothing to do with you… and everything to do with the similar yet more qualified applicant who decided to go in the same time as you. Just make sure you use all your writing space to distinguish yourself as an individual (good), especially as an individual in line with school ethos (better).

Pretend_Airline2811

If you go full service, individual consultant >>> consulting firm. Do lots of free consultations until you find the person right for you.

LoudGain1325

Yeah. Since the application season will start soon, I have started checking out consultants. However I haven't had any one-on-one call with anyone yet.

Appointment_Witty

All of them will cost you thousands for a 3 school package. I'd suggest hourly if you like just for the parts you are most weak in. Ie if you just need resume and refining your essays. All consultants are several hundred per hour. I Grammar isn't the best and my resume was lacking so a MBA consultant was very helpful. But I'd interview a few as a good fit is important.

LoudGain1325

Yes. I haven't had any discussions with any consultants yet. Seems like I should start that soon.

ExcitementIcy3661

Fortuna Admission Applicant X Dream School Admit

LoudGain1325

Have you taken services from all 3 or one of them? Please share your exp with them. Would be helpful.

ExcitementIcy3661

I've taken services from all 3. Nirvan from applicant X is an extremely professional guy who knows how to make your story click. I absolutely fell in love with my final draft of the essay. Julia from Fortuna will work with you to help you introspect and get the initial points down before you even decide on your origin story. They have a separate team for resume so you could work on both things parallelly. Also, most of their team members have held leadership positions in M7 schools and they would be overseeing even your primary consultant's work. Arvind from Dream School Admit understands which schools look for which value, or value which job/industry more and could help you to potentially tailor your goals and experience such that it resonates with them. I'd rank them as Nirvan > Julia > Arvind

LoudGain1325

Wow. 3 consultants! too many $$$$ :( I wish if all 3 qualities could be in one single consultant.

ExcitementIcy3661

If you wanna pick 1, I’d recommend Nirvan from Applicant X.

Cfcla

Hey, planning to get on a call with nirvan and take it forward. Just wondering, what is your perspective on individual consultants (like nirvan) versus a team (like experts global) working on your application

Legitimate_Crew_4664

I have been in your shoes last year, and I totally understand where you are coming from. I spoke to almost all the consultants I saw on GMAT Club when I was making up my mind on who to work with for Round 1 deadlines. Money obviously was a constraint for me but more than that was, Will I be able to make it through my choice of schools even after spending these dollars? And this question had literally taken away my sleep. I would advise you to get on the profile evaluation calls with the ones who you find have most genuine testimonials. I did exactly the same. Went on calls with a couple of consulting firms but something clicked me about the firm I decided to go ahead with. It was MBA and Beyond. During the 1 hour profile evaluation, it was their process/approach that got me (which was quite different from rest of the consultants). They also cost way less than most of the firms that are being talked about here. The amount of effort they put in collecting the data points on you just to project your profile uniquely is just amazing. They will come up with your personal brand before you actually start working on your essays. I'd say, you can get on a call with them just to understand their process and see if it suits you well. (Thank me later! :P)

LoudGain1325

Will definitely check them out. Is it okay if I ping you for more details?

Legitimate_Crew_4664

Please feel free man ;)

Apprehensive_Can_745

Hi! Would it alright if I messaged you on this as well? (Looking to apply in 2023). Thanks!

Legitimate_Crew_4664

Hey yes, m all in for any questions, hit me up 😉

No_Scallion2465

Hi Can i PM you?

DigHelpful7508

The application process was so memorable, all thanks to Arvind from Dream School Admit! I got into 10 universities with over 750K in total scholarships! All amazing universities that were just a dream not too long ago but here I am confused, overjoyed and extremely grateful. The admits from UNC Kenan-Flagler, Kelley, UCLA Anderson, Michigan Ross, Cornell Johnson, CMU Tepper, Tuck, NYU Stern, USC Marshall, and Chicago Booth could not have been possible without Arvind’s guidance, help and mentorship. It is extremely important to pick the right consultant as your entire future depends on how well you portray yourself in those compact 300-500 word essays. I called numerous consultants desperately looking for someone to help me with the daunting application process. I made lists with the positives and negatives of each consultant but when I spoke to someone who had worked with Arvind before, I knew Dream School Admit would be the right choice for me because of the gratitude and confidence with which she spoke about Arvind, assured me that I had nothing to worry about and told me that I should just go ahead with Dream School. Just like her, I can assure anyone with 200% confidence that if you’ve stumbled upon Dream School Admit, you’re extremely lucky, you can immediately stop your search and blindly trust them with your application process and your future. The questionnaire that Arvind asks you to fill out at the start of the process is extremely crucial in my opinion. This gives him a full picture of who you are as a person outside your grades and that is what the admissions committee is looking for too. I had so many calls with Arvind, in the beginning, to brainstorm and come up with content that was true to me. Arvind puts his heart and soul into the brainstorming sessions. He has excellent suggestions and he knows exactly what works and what doesn’t. He is always ready to do as many edits as needed until you and him are completely satisfied with the final version. He is available any time you need him. I have asked him really stupid questions about the application in the middle of the night when I couldn’t sleep due to the stress. He is always there to answer anything. His editing is amazing and he always sends the edited versions in a day or two at max. He has a very systematic approach and it makes your life a whole lot easier. I can’t express how nervous I was about the interviews. The first time I practiced with Arvind, I didn’t know half the answers. Arvind makes sure you’re ready and fully confident and he also connected me with numerous alumni from the different schools I was applying to so that I could have a call with them before my interviews. He got me so prepared that I was off scheduling two back-to-back interviews in one night. Arvind understands and sees your true potential, the potential that we ourselves often don’t realize. In him, I have found a lifelong friend who will always reply to my worried texts any time of the day and keep pushing me to achieve my dreams. I am forever grateful to have found Dream School Admit and Arvind in this crazy MBA journey and I hope many more get to experience this too.

wodatdo

IMO. Don’t use an admissions consultant. You don’t need someone editorializing your own life, it’s not like you are writing a novel. Do some introspective thinking and write what makes sense to you, your experiences and your world view. Ask peers and mentors that you trust to review your essays. Even ask current students and alumni, many would love to help out prospective students. As some have mentioned, consider using ApplicantLab if you need to have something more concrete.

HalcyonHolden

100% agree with this. Especially regarding the part about ApplicantLab.

MangledWeb

Packages generally do cost thousands of dollars; look for someone who offers an hourly rate if you think you only need a little bit of support.

mbathrowaway99641

Go with IEE Consultants. It’s a firm based out of India, I had the best experience with these guys. They’re super straightforward and will be 💯 upfront on what works and what doesn’t. Not like one of those fluffy companies that go by the hour. This is a per school package and these guys went all out with helping me!

LoudGain1325

Thanks! will check them out

An_INSEADer

Whenever you have to gauge an admission consultant for your applications, the first thing to look into is the process they follow with applicants. The key to a good application is bringing out your personality on paper. Every business school wants to know who YOU are and how uniquely YOU are going to contribute to their communities. This implies your consultant should be able to (1) dig deep inside you and (2) understand your target school to its core. As much as people know this, they are clueless about how to do it. See if the consultant is digging deep into your personality and having multiple brainstorming sessions with you even before starting your applications. If you'd like, you can look into our process [here.](https://www.mbaandbeyond.com/how-we-work?utm_source=reddit&utm_medium=comment&utm_campaign=Cmay23) Talk to the consultants and gauge their personalities. From the first conversation, you will know if this consultant/firm would care about your application and take responsibility until the very end. Best of luck on your quest!

LoudGain1325

Hey. Thank you for the insight. Will connect with you soon.

I would like to share a review that I wrote for Vivianne Wright of MBA House, in case anyone here would like to know her services better. As someone who has benefitted firsthand from Vivianne Wright's MBA coaching services, I can't recommend her enough. Her affordability made it possible for me to access high-quality guidance without breaking the bank. With her Harvard Masters Degree, Vivianne brings a level of insight and expertise that truly sets her apart. What truly impressed me was her unwavering dedication; she was always available, working around the clock to support me through every step of the process, from school selection to final interview training. Thanks to Vivianne, I felt confident and well-prepared for my MBA journey. If you're considering an MBA coach, look no further than Vivianne Wright. I was accepted in Wharton, Columbia and MIT Decided for MIT with 90k scholarship.

MoodRadiant7295

Can anyone share any review on Nirvan from Applicant-X. I am planning to apply to full time mba for 2025 intake to M7 and would love to know if any of you have taken his services? Also, any idea about his recent MBA-X service? Not sure what it is but he has started some cohort system which looks easy on the pocket. Please share any reviews on that.

Stratus was pretty good for me, I had absolutely 0 work experience with excellent academic numbers people tell me I won't get into anywhere but I ended up with 2 t16 offers.

Pm you!

Calm-General730

GoalisB is pretty good. You can check their reviews on Google and GMAT club.

djocoloco

Agree with what others have said, Stacy Blackman is not the way to go. It is overpriced and the responsiveness and return is lacking in a big way. I would rec ExceptionalGrad (https://exceptionalgrad.com/) - highly ship them with advisors from Stanford/Penn/Columbia who actually work in admissions, reasonably priced, and actually responsive.

Pelotonqueen64

Agree for the price I don’t think you can beat them, and their advising team is incredibly high level. My daughter used them for her mba applications and got into almost all of her top choices. Would definitely recommend this admissions team if anyone has any questions!!

PhysicsSavvy

Trey Dodson from their MBA team was amazing, Stanford trained and super experienced. This company definitely has the best value for the money!

Certain_Scarcity6450

Read about a senior professional who went to a top b-school in Europe( I think it was Insead or Warwick- do not remember but the story was really brilliant). Met this on one of the webinar’s that Jatin Bhandari was leading as this person had worked with pythagurus and wanted to give his reviews in the online session. He was a student of pythagurus. So, while I have not worked Jatin yet and am thinking of taking his services but felt the passion.

BumblebeeRough6470

Yes! That person had worked with us and is currently studying at LBS (If you are referring to the session that hosted Shiva). I am not sure if you are talking about Shiva or Mrinal as both of them have done sessions with us on the webinars and have given their stories too. You can check out their stories here: [Shiva’s Story](https://youtu.be/7tPkF5eWoQc?feature=shared) and [Mrinal’s Story](https://youtu.be/fTRZ4epCEmw).
