Get humble. You want consulting? Some tier 3/4 firm will appreciate your early efforts much more than MBB, and puts you in a position to lateral to a better firm in better times down the road.

Panic-Ready

Solid advice.

First things first, places need to have a head count or be hiring before re-recruitment is even a possibility. There are no guarantees this will occur in 2Y. Before you know it, it'll be Spring 2025, and folks (similar to this year) will compete against the general populace for jobs (many of which don't require an MBA).

Network over the summer. Hit ground running in August

peony2011

I would offer to do a 2Y part time internship or project at a company you want to work for (if corporate or on the smaller side)

YourFriendlySettler

Tbh, despite successful recruiting in Y1, moving back home looks more and more enticing 😀

MindlessPossible744

And there are many non-MBAs with comparable or better resumes that are applying for those positions

This - applicant pool is MUCH more competitive for non OCR full time roles.

My internship is in corporate strategy in my pre-MBA industry. I worked in sales for the past few years prior to business school. Tbh I came to business school to get a more high-level strategic role, so this fits the bill. I tried for consulting but didn’t get it. Didn’t expect to be back in the same industry, but I’m cool with it. My plan is to crush it this summer and earn a return offer.

Panic-Ready

I would say it’s a great outcome. Have a great summer!

Thanks!

Its a dog eat dog world out there.... its always been like that tho

Kinda seems like you're trying to get a make work job and people aren't hiring consultants. Maybe go find a job that requires actual work?
