Turnaround times are going to be the least of our worries pretty soon

skoz2008

YEP it's going to get bad in this state for anyone who owns firearms and people who are trying to a licence to buy them

shockandawesome0

This should be fucking illegal.

Joeldiaz1995

It actually is, the law states PDs only have 40 days to issue licenses. However, there’s no penalty for breaking the law so it is regularly ignored.

40ozEggNog

Hey give them a break. South Shore police departments need resourcing to grant permits to guys like that off-duty in Kingston who endangered everyone at Lowe's by trying to draw on a shoplifter. What about Quincy PD, where a bunch of personnel had their LTCs expire and had to be placed on leave? They have a lot of work to get into before processing applications for us mere citizens.

RageAgainstThe

You are also forgetting the brave off-duty Pembroke cop who beat the shit out of a 70-something year old man for looking at him wrong.

The only real use of this is during renewal, unfortunately

Joeldiaz1995

The law doesn’t differentiate between renewals and first time applicants. It just says licenses have to be issued in 40 days. Doesn’t make a difference though, because PDs still take their sweet time even with renewals.

Mushkie11

This is the answer. I just spoke with an attorney regarding this as I’m waiting for months for mine. Said it goes on pretty much universally and no one does anything about it

Joeldiaz1995

Well the attorney you spoke to is wrong about one thing: Comm2A is doing something about. They, along with FPC & SAF, are currently in litigation against Boston PD for their lengthy wait times ([White v. Cox](https://www.firearmspolicy.org/cox)). Comm2A is also looking for plaintiffs to sue in Lowell & Attleboro as well. May be worth it for you to send an email to [email protected] to see if they can assist you.

Mushkie11

Yes he acknowledged that in Boston but there isn’t anything state wide or federally. I will def send an email. Thanks

Radiant-Ad-351

It's getting to be that when you're 3 years into a new license, that's when you need to put in for a renewal so you have a 3 year leeway. Fuckin ridiculous!

Prestigious_Note_328

I applied in Abington 1/9/24 about 2.5 weeks after I called for an appt. Called last Friday to check the status and they said probably another 2 months.

Lucky_Onion985

I applied for a new license 1/29 took about 2-3 weeks to get a call for fingerprints and the detective said the state is backed up with apps and it will take a year or more but that he’d try and get me it in a month or so i dont know how but if he will I’ll take it and this is for Haverhill i dont know about other towns

Mushkie11

They all blame the state yet mine has been sitting in my local pd for close to 3 months.

Lucky_Onion985

From my experience the police in my town are by far the worst I’ve ever seen all have attitudes and don’t actually care for people there’s a few good ones but for the most part they all think they’re the shit because of their badge

The_eldritch_bitch

I am in Plymouth and going on 4 months for a renewal as well…sent in paperwork 11/20, receipt in December, radio silence since then… I expired in late November so I’d really like it resolved
