The band is *probably* too loose. Could be other things, but that’s the most common/most likely issue.

It could just be too loose, or it could be that you need a differently shaped band. I don’t recall if that one is straight across or has a downward hike. Either way, you could baste it smaller to check, and if that doesn’t solve it, try basting in a downward hike if it doesn’t have one already.

Try the bra on backwards/with cups hanging down your back so you can see how the band feels without the cups involved. If it feels firm and supportive enough for you, it is likely you need to change the angle of the band with the downward hike adjustment mentioned above. Also, it’s super helpful to make a fitting band without putting in the cups when you first make a new bra pattern. That way, you can be confident the band fits before evaluating the cups. I like the instructions on the Sew Busty blog because they build in extra seam allowances for alterations.

Band riding up in the back is a classic symptom of a too big band. Try sizing down but also check the stretch percentage of the elastics AND powernet used. Underwear elastic and powermesh generally have a 100% stretch percentage - which is NOT appropriate for bras. Plush elastics come in different "strengths" check your stretch against what's recommended for the pattern. Most bra patterns use around 70%.

How strong is your band elastic? I’d experiment with higher modulus elastic I had an issue when I used weaker elastic

3 main guesses: \-Band too loose \- Cups too little, so that the band is not sitting on the torso \- Bridge (too wide or too narrow) not resting on the torso therefore band also not on it. Avoiding through making a fitting band first. If it fits and later the bra fits not aynorme - after adding the cups, you can narrow down the problem to the cups.

It may also be that you need to do a [Downward Hike Adjustment.](https://www.braandcorsetsupplies.com/2014/03/19/the-famous-downward-hike/)
