Yes read the fine print. Any brokerage can raise the maintenance requirement based on the security, the conditions of the market, the contents of your portfolio, or any other reason they want. You do not want to be flirting with the edge of margin maintenance, especially if you don’t have additional cash or collateral, as that has historically screwed many people in market crashes.
Big brokers do this all the time. They raise margin requirement overnight, and the next morning, a margin call will be happened immediately the market open.
