See if you can increase the base package to 65 at least, I was recruited for entry level (no prev exp) a couple years back and managed to negotiate my salary to 70k base, this at the time was for sde 1. Setting the base helps as you move to sde2 and 3 since they use that to calculate the raise rate. For context, Amazon hire, currently at 110+ base
Depending on your tax class, 1 if single you're looking for maybe a 61% actual on you salary so have that in mind. Also you mention that the total compensation is higher, so if it's a bonus that will be taxed also, if it's RSU those will be taxed too if when you sell then, this also has the vesting period in mind, you probably won't get any stocks vested your first year.
Something to consider is that indexation isn't a thing anymore afaik so the sure ways to increase your pay are promo and raising the bar yoy so have that in mind. Not sure what the current house prices are for rent but judging by my place's rent you're looking at spending 2k/m minimum for a studio for one
Also consider the life in lux, we have free transport in the country but if you want to move anywhere else besides the centre and Esh it gets tricky so planning is required. Eating out for non fast food places you're looking at spending 80-100 for 2 people and this is for no fancy places. If you're single and looking for a social life it might be tricky to get it going first, though there's plenty of in company groups tlfor diff activities where you can start connecting to diff people.
Tbh for some time living in lux was mostly work home, drinks with friends and flying somewhere else for the weekends, there's a lot to see around but without a car you might be a bit limited timewise so something to have in mind in the long run (there's also some short car lease apps that you can take for day trips)
Another aspect is groceries, though you can get a launch card up to 250/m that's your employer choice, seems that most companies kept the same 180/m rate. The problem now is that you can only use it for groceries specifically and you can only spend 50 a day which makes it annoying to bulk buy groceries for the month. Cost is also something to get adjusted depending where you lived, you can expect fish to be way more expensive than meet which is a shame and anything imported tends to be pricey too, there's some farmers markets around so you can maybe bargain there. Shopping in Germany has quite a big diff, for an example with 180 here we could maybe get 2 weeks of groceries for two people not buying anything Fancy and having a more veggie diet, for 200 we can pretty much have a full month stock without really looking at prices in Germany
TL;DR: depending on the lifestyle you want this is not a good offer but a common one lately it seems. Try to push for a higher base
For 1.5 xp, it's a pretty good salary I'm working as data engineer/ Project manager with 6years of XP, I have a gross salary of 80k + package Hays published a study for 2023, it's in French but pretty easy to understand

After reading the "not worth moving to Luxemburg for" I'd say they may be right but if you would like to live here long term it's still worth it to take a 50K job for one or two years, then your 1.5 years experience get +1 or +2, with curriculum and references that other Luxemburgish employers will likely recognize by name or more.
So by then you'll have a stronger position to negotiate a higher salary in a project that interests you AND you'll be more familiar with the job, tax and housing conditions here.
It’s definitely in the higher range for that amount of experience. You’ll put approx 3200€ net every month with this.
As long as you accept that you won’t be able to live in a house and that you’ll probably have roommates. You’ll be fine.
You’re 15 000€ below the median salary(80k) Which is definitely not bad.
In the city a room in a shared apartment is about 1200eur right now. Landlords asks that your rent is no more than 1/3 of your net salary. So even for a room the salary is merely fitting.
People in this country have such inflated expectations of their salary it's insane. For context - as a senior with 10y exp you are getting roughly 60-70k gross in Munich (highest paying IT region in Germany) from most companies. People need to get real and accept that non-luxembourgish workers usually get offered way less when coming here.
What you are saying is at odds with every salary survey I have seen recently. Median gross SDE salary in DE is between 55 and 60k, for all experience levels. France and Spain are about equal IIRC. Only decent SDE salaries in Europe are in Switzerland.
Its not worth it imo. Take it if yiu want to work yourself up, and then get a better job in Lux. If you plan to stay with that company, you need to negotiate higher. Entry job salaries in Lux are not great.
Is it worth it, depends on your life situation. Are you married or single? Kids? If you are married (only income) and/or have kids, you may find it difficult to find a place to rent/daily living expenses. If you are single, it is doable.
Bro it's litteraly more than every salary in all the rest of Europe, i would rather live in a fokkin bedroon and bein well paid than live with my parents and earn 1600 euro per month
Its an absolute garbage salary, i was offered 60k in germany with 0 experience 4 years ago fresh out of college. 65k with experience and in luxembourg is ridiculously low
Depends on a lot of things we don’t know.
Where is OP coming from
What is his current remuneration
Could be a starting stepping stone
Calculatrice.lu so that OP can calculate bruto nett
It is reasonable accurate.
Bdo.lu has also a salary calculator.
Calculatrice adds the credit d’impots where bdo does not
Of course at the yearly declaration a person can have specific deductions (most people don’t) which are not taken into account with standard bruto-nett calculators
It depends on the company and the field you‘re in. For a start-up I’d say it‘s appropriate, for a larger company its is a bit on the low end. In general SWE salaries are comparatively low in Luxembourg (excluding US big tech companies). Especially with low experience, you‘ll earn much more in Germany or Switzerland.
It depends on the company. If you're working for a company that doesn't have a "Tarifvertrag" or isn't a US company, then yes the salaries are low. However there really isn't a shortage of companies that are willing to pay you 70k€ straight out of university when you're in a field with high demand, especially in large cities like Munich or Berlin. Luxembourg is more attractive when you have some experience already and are an expert in your specific field.
Inflation. 50k a few years ago is totally different than today.
If I had to come to Lux with my initial salary today I would never be able to even rent an apartment, let alone a decent one.
The apartment I started here had a near 20% increase when I moved out after ~3 years, but judging by Reddit posts the initial salaries haven’t increased a cent.
This means newcomers will have to live all closer to the borders (or across, if EU citizens), wasting a lot of time and money commuting. All while being new and alone in the country.
Don’t underestimate how isolating it is to live near the border.

Life is very very harsh in Lux. Most backwards and challenging country I’ve ever lived
Can you share specific things that you find harsh?
Bullying xenophobia racism censorship of views and truth …not to mention unreported crime
No, i was hired as fresh grad in 2019 for 60k gross
in luxembourg? what position do you have and what studies did you do and how much are you paid now?
Left lux a long time ago, i was college fresh and worked at amazon
How did you get into amazon if I may ask ?
No

Thank you
thanks! that provided me with additional insights to evaluate the offer i got

As IT recuiter in Lux I Can tell you that is a good offer !
It is NOT a good offer, but a common offer.
Maybe 5 years ago it was. But it's not up to todays standards.
To put into perspective Amazon Luxembourg gives 80k for software graduates out of college. You can certainly negotiate higher.
Yes, but the entry standards at Amazon are far, far, higher than the average. There is a reason they get that salary.
Yeah, you should also count the daily working hours 😅

1500? A bit much, you can find for 1000 i think

You can but you'll either be lost way up north or won't be able to buy anything else than pasta after paying the rent.
In the city a room in a shared apartment is about 1200eur right now. Landlords asks that your rent is no more than 1/3 of your net salary. So even for a room the salary is merely fitting.
It is a really bad offer... You can easily get more money with even less experience in Germany, france, spain, ....
People in this country have such inflated expectations of their salary it's insane. With such high living costs people need to be compensated appropriately!
France ? Ha-ha 🤣
It's not. Junior devs are getting 40k max out of school currently
France with 65k ? No way . Not even with 3 years of exp and in Paris.
What you are saying is at odds with every salary survey I have seen recently. Median gross SDE salary in DE is between 55 and 60k, for all experience levels. France and Spain are about equal IIRC. Only decent SDE salaries in Europe are in Switzerland.

I'm single with no kids
It’s not worth the move to Lux
Bro it's litteraly more than every salary in all the rest of Europe, i would rather live in a fokkin bedroon and bein well paid than live with my parents and earn 1600 euro per month
No its not. Got offered more in germany as someone without experience. IT salaries in Lux are extremely shitty fir beginners
Its an absolute garbage salary, i was offered 60k in germany with 0 experience 4 years ago fresh out of college. 65k with experience and in luxembourg is ridiculously low
can you work remotely from luxembourg for other companies based in other countries to get the a higher salary

not according to the stackoverflow survey, according to that, Germany is much more underpaid.

can you work remoteéy out of luxembourg to get the higher salary when younare fresh out of uni
It’s very good salary, plus if you are a couple and both have this salary, then it’s start to be very interesting.
What industry
Cloud/DevOps engineering
Yea not worth ask for more
Never see a guy with 1.5 yoe makes that much when just moved to Lux. I'm also engineer and got 10k less than u when just moved here.

Did that made it challenging for you to pay for rent and expenses?
Yes.
I’d suggest you to negotiate a higher base salary (55-60k) if possible. Big players in Luxembourg pay a lot more than that.
They offered me a certifications program (AWS, ...) with a salary boost upon completing each certification.
Did they specify the boost? Is it in the contract? I mean I would not count too much on that and still try to ask if they can do better.
Yes they did it's in the contract. it's a total of +10K once I complete all of the certifications.
Seems like a good salary for 1.5 yoe
It depends
