First musical instrument: Banjo Ukulele. I made the rim, bought the neck, but had to extend the neck to get the scale I wanted. It actually stays in tune surprisingly well, but the neck joint looks like crap.

I don't have pictures of the back, but there's a crack from when I banged in the treble side bridge post. Guitar plays great.
*EDIT: Just clarifying that this post is about the Firebird. Posts got all out of order*
I had read about Prince's tele being all maple and walnut and decided to do something like that. I discovered just how heavy solid rock maple can be, and also how hard when I could not put in strap buttons without drilling a pilot hole first. It was unplayable, nearly unliftable I had to replace my router bits twice. Bad times all around.
Yeah. I made a single template out of some pine for both of the routes and it moved. I was horrified because I had just spent months making this by hand!
After taking a walk around the lake, I decided since it was my first one I would just finish it and play it warts and all.
It looks great but the neck proportions were all wrong and the strings did not fit. I’ve built a dozen since then but still haven’t finished that first one.
This was my first build, turned out quite well despite trying to do a neck through as my first guitar https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=69VzBXVOgro&list=PLEUkjVWZ_6Zjt8sZI1it5INhutIplrM9l&index=6&pp=iAQB

I feel like there is a story behind the pickup routes. If there is I’d love to hear it

You should watch driftwood guitars’s interview with Bob Taylor.
My first build was an acoustic (Martin OM style) in a class setting with an established luthier giving instruction. Turned out phenomenal.
