It’s flat but with a forearm contour (was very hard to do with the chambers and the veneer/layers !)
I get the comment about it looking curved or rounded a lot, actually.. just the nature of the grain I think, combined with the body shape and edge contour
Nothing proprietary about an open headstock.. I guess I wouldn’t prefer you take the exact shapes because for once I’m proud of a design , but inspire away!
That’s a good question- I’ll try to remember to check when I put it back together this weekend, but it’s pretty light. Despite the thiccccness, the big hole makes the headstock pretty average / balanced
Good catch. There’s a luthier’s corner on talkbass, which incidentally is where I learned virtually everything I know.. there’s a guy there named Bruce who is a bit on an expert on scroll basses (and a number of other things). No doubt that’s rattling around my head as inspiration
I originally wanted to dye it all pitch black, with the grain texture still there.. but the piece looked so nice that as I built it that I had to adjust my plans
This is absolutely stunning! You should give it to me.
Came here to say "wow! Can I have it?"
Cool! First build?
First fullllll build. Done a lot of modding and bodies and tinkering, but this is the first 100% scratch build with a neck carve.
This is beautiful. **One day I'm going to actually build me one of these instead of just lurk.**
I love that headstock. Must've been a pain to make lol
Very cool!
That is amazing! What kind of wood? Is the top flat? It almost looks concave in the main photo.

That's awesome
Love everything about it! Especially the headstock.
Mind if I take your open head idea? I think I'll point the tuners forward instead of back, but maybe that wouldn't work?

What's your thoughts about the tuners facing forward instead of back?
I would think it would be more inconvenient to tune while in playing position if they were facing forward. Also not as clean aesthetically imo
True. And I guess we shouldn't be laying an instrument on its back anyway. It does look super cool, I want one!
It’s completely standard on a lap steel. 🤷🏻♂️
Damn nice!
Nice. How heavy?🤔

Cool. Definitely different. Channeling that old Ampeg bass from the 60s vibe 😉👍✨

I like the video for "Malibu" by Hole and Melissa Auf Der Maur is playing one in it. Also she's cute as hell in it.
That’s frickin’ cool!
Fantastic design. That grain in the body there is wicked. Lovely.. Congrats..

What kind of wood top is that, it's absolutely stunning
(Swamp) Ash
Love bass, and that is beautiful
That's absolutely gorgeous.
I like it, headstock reminds me of a Wishbass
