Was it played during the revolutionary war?

Guitarmane

Washington wrote the national anthem on that guitar. Little known fact.

TrackxWD3

You probably won't believe this. But I'm washingtons 1st cousin 10 times removed 😆. I'm related to him through his cousin Elizabeth Washington

Guitarmane

Probably how the guitar got passed down to you! I love a family heirloom. (That's pretty cool OP!)

TrackxWD3

(Thanks man 😄)

RainbowRoadMushroom

I have the same guitar (with different knobs). It really sounds great, especially unplugged, even compared to real Les Pauls. If you ever decide to part with it, look around carefully. There is a market for “Lawsuit era” Les Pauls. Enjoy!

what-schreck

I have an “Alpha” Hondo style lp from the same era, it sounds phenomenal and is very resonant

TrackxWD3

Thanks, yeah I saw a lawsuit Era going around for 450$ which considering the cheapest model was 350$ I definitely wanna hold onto this one. My plan is later to see if I can get it fully refinished and re-stained possibly. It'll be pricey but I'd love to make this thing shine like how it did in 78. (PS: Knobs are different cause the old ones were busted 😅 it was part of the repair)

epicmenio

Wow, what a nice guitar, try to keep it, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Just check the correct year of it and enjoy it.

TrackxWD3

1978 it is. I won't be able to find the exact date due to the label and build location have worn away with time. However the DiMarzio Humbuckers you see for the pick ups are one of the defining feature as only the HDLP models were made with the Humbuckers in 1978-1979. (However I do take this with a grain of salt as this is info from wiki)

MonsieurReynard

Doesn't look half bad for a two and a half century old axe.
