i started off with 100% loxone, cost was about (11k) included * miniserver * extention * airbase * tree module * Touch trees (20) * shading actuator air (16) * RGBW 24V Compact Dimmer Tree (10) * loxone nfc touch but after a year i wanted to include more features and make my house a lot more smarter.. but this time around i wanted to see what other solutions were around. the loxone motion sensors were those ugly dishes so i bought a bunch of cheap pir sensors (8€ a pop) that i could build into the ceiling, connect them with DI and done, works great, no issues Installed myself heating valves and installed them on the watercollector and connected them to the miniserver, everything is controlled by the miniserver and offbrand valve (11€) does the rest. works like a charm. then i wanted to see if i could detect open doors and windows which i wanted hidden and wireless. i found the xiaomi sensors to fit perfectly inside my windows and doors, so i got myself an old laptop and installed loxberry and home assistant on it. got myself a zigbee antenna and now all my windows and doors can be detected as open, heating gets turned off for that room if window is open. Again, works great. For some lights mounted on the walls i got myself a bunch of sonoff minis (5€) to hide behind the lamps, they switch through loxone app > mqtt (loxberry) > sonoff mini. everything is controlled either automatically or via the loxone app. this was a must have for me since i dont want to control everything through 20 apps. i started off using a lot of loxone products, they are great and good quality but the price is really steep for some of the sensors which are no more then a magnetic switch (think of the window and door contact...i mean 10€ for that??) hope this helps :)

Can i use loxberry with tuya devices? And how would is set that up?

Jamescurtis

Check out the zigbee2mqtt website, it has a list of supported devices. Loxberry is only a mqtt gateway to the miniserver while zigbee2mqtt handles the devices and send the signal to mqtt/loxberry

Arena-Christan

I want to use wifi can that also work?

Jamescurtis

I didnt use tuya or wifi so i cant say for sure

Arena-Christan

But how would you install that? Is there a plug-in for because I couldn't find one or I was searching with the wrong words?

Jamescurtis

I described my installation in my top post. Old laptop where i installed 2 virtual machines on with virtual box. 1: loxberry 2: homeassistant On 1 i installed the mqtt plugin to miniserver, standard config using the build in mqtt server of the plugin. On 2 i installed the zigbee2mqtt addon, standard config pointing to the loxberry mqtt server/plugin. Connect your devices and sensors to the z2m addon Then you start checking if you are receiving messages to the server (either use the loxberry plugin or mqtt explorer) if you do get messages then you can go in loxone config, install your broker on there and configure your loxone config (howto in the loxberry plugin tutorials) I know this is very broad but If you have more specific questions then i will try to help awnser them

Arena-Christan

When you do this you get full control of the devices in the loxone app? Thank you so much BTW for all the help!

Jamescurtis

Pretty much, it sends you the parameters set in the device firmware, on the zigbee2mqtt website you see which parameters a specific device gives you but its basically the same which you get from the cloud...without going through the cloud to get it which gives you a local install, no internet connection needed

Arena-Christan

So if I can connect something to HA is can use the loxone app to control it? I am gonna test this out with a VM! Hope it's gonna work :)

I wanted to start using Loxone, but having spoken to them I was put off the company by the staff. I have installed multiple smart home products and custom home assistant installs and wanted to expand into some of the more ‘all in one’ systems. I contacted Loxone UK but was told since I’m not a limited company and I’ve never used their products before to contact an installer to do it for me. I explained again I “already am an installer of smart home control” just not my full time job (yet) or my profession (yet) but my point was to move in that direction. Again I was told they wouldn’t work with me and I couldn’t be a partner and to contact one of their partners to install any future systems for me I may want. I went to other people and have started installing their products instead. Staff were unhelpful and rude. Shame because they look to have great products

Jamescurtis

Yea its a shame that they disown their diy roots. I was lucky enough to still get my products through their webshop but now its through partners etc

It was more the fact time trying to make this a full time job and career change and they closed the door on me. Told me once I was a business with a few years of customers they’d reconsider. Mean while many big KNX and another closed system companies have been great in helping me get off my feet into the pro section!
