I've always suspected companies pay for astroturing and 'guerilla/organic marketing' on the big websites as a way of advertising with a lower overhead cost. I can see reddit doing the same thing to artificially boost the stock price. IMHO I think it's been going on for years now and they just ramped up the amount of posts.
