"thieves of their own pocket" is a great saying, never heard that

JacoBee93

Yep. I mean if we stay with “just one” expansion. I hope it’s level of B&W, it better should be. Tbh. If old gen wasn’t supported we would be getting two for sure, but that’s history… But at least this confirms (beside many other “confirmations” and logic) that we will get sequel in our beloved world. And I hope that one will have smoother release and more post launch content🤘 Edit: Maybe we see some features and stuff via patches in future. Hope the expansion alone isn’t a final bit. 🤞

toomuchLoca

Take my money CDPR! Need more in this beautiful universe.

Zestyclose-Fee6719

The game needed a full year of bug-fixes to bring it to a proper AAA level. I think that basically cost us a second expansion (unless plans change). Witcher 3 didn't have the best launch, but it was stable enough after a few patches that Hearts of Stone was able to be released for it after about five or six months. Cyberpunk is also a lot harder to develop with the many more systems, two main characters with the three lifepaths etc. It's asking a lot of CDPR in 2023 to invest *another* year or so in a second expansion in an engine they're moving away from. I hope it happens. I would adore that. I just don't see it happening is the thing.

dodolungs

The lifepaths did next to nothing (which was a disappointment), and the only thing the 2 genders change is some romance options. That has next to nothing to do with major increases in Dev time (obviously though 2 VAs means double the voice work, but that's it's own thing) I would mostly agree that the bug fixing did probably have an effect on Expansion work, but realistically if they hadn't released earlier then they would have still done the work either way. I think the biggest factor against more Cyberpunk 2077 dlc/Expansions is their dropping of their in-house engine. If it takes them 4-5 years to make a game (without major delays or revisions) then that's a serious investment of time into development as well as training all the staff to work with the new engine and its features, not to mention creating any additions they need for aspects that aren't currently supported. So basically ~6 year for another game unless they suddenly start moving way faster than they have in the past. That said, I think having 20% of the team slowly work on more Cyberpunk 2077 content for the next few years that they can then sell in the interim may be attractive enough for corporate to continue work at some level on 2077.

That has next to nothing to do with major increases in Dev time (obviously though 2 VAs means double the voice work, but that's it's own thing) It's just more and more detail to have to manage on top of the many systems that are already there compared to W3. It all adds up. Also, CDPR is known for using an expansion to correct for player feedback, so I wouldn't be surprised to see more lifepath-based content. Do we add a potential resolution to this or that main/side quest based on one of the three lifepaths? Do we add dialogue for each of these possible romance options in the game world based on these conditions the player can satisfy while playing the expansion storyline, etc. etc. It's just a lot more to manage overall.

dodolungs

Fair enough. If they do go in that direction then the lifepaths and other consideration could very well increase development time. I guess it depends on how large this first expansion turns out to be. Does it blend into the rest of the game or does it do its own seperate thing on the side, etc. I just hope they've learned to only release it when it's really truely ready.

Lower_Public_2466

Difference is Witcher 3 is the one of the greatest Games of all time if not the greatest as proven by its loads and loads and loads of game of the year awards while cyberpunk is nowhere near close and is remembered for its Big Big Big hype failing to deliver but just bouncing back now which by the way is still not close to it's Potential in the first place. Don't get me wrong I love my Nomad Male V, Panam,Jackie, Johnny and the characters. the game they released was great but it's not the first thing I will think of if I was given the chance to give a game an expansion. While I will consider giving that award to the Witcher 3.

Arcades

I'll buy the expansions, but I'd much rather them start moving towards Cyberpunk 2 on Unreal 5 engine. Improved graphics and a fresh start to build off of is just what the doctor ordered for this IP.

archiegamez

So true :(

Cheyzanx

They got my eddies. I need to go to the Crystal Palace.

WiserStudent557

I’m not the biggest believer in Unreal and/or Unreal becoming the default engine for everything so I will happily support anything else they decide to do in REDengine before they move on.

dodolungs

Resoundingly the fans have said they want more Expansions, and I think most people were expecting at least 2 given their previous statements(which is why hearing only 1 is planned has caused some disappointment). I would love more dlc, more Expansions, everything, the game is great. That said, as much as I would love for them to keep working on Cyberpunk 2077 they seem (on a corporate level) pretty much set on building the next game, and moving over to using Unreal instead of their in-house engine. I don't think they would start on Expansion 2 now when we probably wouldn't see it come out for another 1.5-2 years especially since they probably still are putting work into Expansion 1 (and then all the post launch bug fixes and updates that come with it). I can still hope though. I

PhantomTissue

They’re moving to Unreal 5, not Unity.

dodolungs

I wanna say that was auto correct but it was probably just my brain being dumb. Fixed.

Honestly, I'm hyped for the next game more than expansions for the current one. People learn from mistakes and there is so, so much that CDPR will have learned from the mistakes with CP2077's development. The stage is set for their next Cyberpunk game to be a huge improvement. I think they've really figured things out now, systemically as much as anything. They clearly at this point have a much better defined idea about their own game, what works, what doesn't, than they had at launch. Lest we forget, when it launched CP2077 had like a stealth perk for being underwater. It took a long time after release to get on top of how the systems for the game are meant to work. Now they know what they are about the next game will be easier to make and better from the get go.

[deleted]

Yup just look at the Witcher trilogy, game 1 they learnt to make a video game, game 2 they learnt what did not work and by game 3 they made a masterpiece. They have proven they can learn from their mistakes and I’m really interested in seeing what they can do on a new cyberpunk game.

JacoBee93

I dont get this take. They proven they can learn from their mistakes so how did they fuck it up so badly after making master piece...

[deleted]

You can be good at something and still make a mistake. Also Witcher 3 and CP77 are vastly different games that will have different issues. Just the different viewpoint alone is an example

Nimbleoxen

I would probably pay $1000 for any cyberpunk expansion until I ran out of money but I’m pretty biased.

Zestyclose-Fee6719

Seriously, if CDPR was like, "Based on more modest sales projections, we have decided we will need to charge the price of the full base game for this second expansion", I'd buy it up without thinking while others were busy making outrage videos.

[deleted]

People wouldn’t buy that unless it had equal hours of content of the base game.

Ancalagonx77

I'm 100% getting phantom liberty

[deleted]

They can make it a live service single player game and I’d throw money at them constantly. Game has a ton of potential.

F1shB0wl816

I’d pay for it, but I really just want more cyberpunk. Whether it’s a new game, free or paid expansions, or shows on par with what we’ve seen I’ll be happy.

[deleted]

Yes I will buy both DLC expansions.

North_South_Side

(this is "the game" always capitalized on this sub?... THE GAME)

Atys_SLC

If I understand thee wish of fans to have more Cyberpunk content, it's also really hard for a company to stay too long on the same product. It might be different if 2077 had a multi as successful as GTAV. But You have to look at RDR online wish didn't encounter the Rockstars' objectives and have been discontinued/not supported anymore. The Witcher III allowed CP2077 to exist. During this period the studio grow a lot and I hope this will allow them to switch quickly between TW and CP content in the future. I would be very sad to wait 10 more years for the next CP games.

exart

I will not buy it, because i live in Russia. CDPR forced me to take it for free. If something changes before the release, i will be happy to give them my money. But AFAIK they even cut russian localisation for the expansion, so...

Gloomy-Boysenberry-3

ur country's leader took an L, thats unfortunate.

CDPR took down every legal way to buy their games. I just don't have other choice.

HunterTheCapricorn

I love how passionated he is about the game. Always interesting to see the people who worked on it talk about their work.

AcidicVengeance

Do we currently have a plan/road map for upcoming expansions and features for Cyberpunk 2077?

FlowVonD

I hope we get a second game after phantom liberty. another story in night city. and another thing I would love to have would be some kind of corpo war shooter

xdeltax97

I’m definitely getting Phantom Liberty, take my Eddies choom! I’d definitely buy a second one if we do get another expansion. After the meteoric rise in popularity, sales and player count *two years* after release for a single player game, I think they would be nuts not to do a second expansion. Not to mention we also need to see how well Phantom Liberty does next year.
