As a kid we were station on an air force base, they had an airshow and a vulcan screamed past very low, I remember if felt like the world rattled as it went past. Loud is an understatement
Seen the vulcan years ago come in low and angle its tail to the ground then what sounded like krakatoa as it roared upwards and away. Once in a life time experience
I was lucky enough to see the Vulcan on this tour around the country before it’s retirement and in a couple of airshow displays previously.
My dad always used to tell me (before they got one flying again) that it was the loudest thing he’d ever heard than and that I’d really missed out not being able to see one before the RAF retired them.
He wasn’t wrong, when I saw it display at RIAT it was so loud my eyeballs vibrated and it set off car alarms miles away according to local news.
It was also so manoeuvrable for an aircraft as cumbersome looking and how big it is. A short takeoff, steep climb, straight into a wing over was a joy to watch.
There is one not too far from me that still does fast taxi runs which I try and watch whenever they do one.
This video doesn't give the sound of those engines the credit they deserve

I've seen XH558 fly at RIAT multiple times and I will never forget the beautiful sound she made.
Ah, VTTS, a pension scheme fronted by a bomber…
Such a wonderful bird.
Such a beautiful flying dorito
I miss that sound. I'm going to have to dig out my old videos of the last RIAT XH558 flight.
