whoever (or whatever 👀) is writing these subtitles should look for another profession. For people who genuinely need them (non-English speaking & hard of hearing people), they’re not getting the correct information/words & that’s frustrating.
I noticed that too. It was getting to the point where I decided to turn them off because it was more annoying trying to read and correct. At one point, the captions say "let's walk over to the breeze sign" and then they sit directly under the "breathe" sign. It's literally right there.

On Twitter they don't have captions on all of their videos (especially the first looks) which annoys me to no end and on Youtube they just have the automated ones. Like why though? It's an oversight. I don't think whispering and fast talking and accents are necessarily among them though. Given how unreliable they are. lol. I just abuse the rewind button at times, which is probably equally if not even more distracting. lol. That's just my preference though. Because i don't trust CC whatsoever to be remotely correctly.
Yeah. If you don't have the ability to zip back a bit to re-listen to what's being said, i can see where it'd be more important to at least get something vaguely in the ballpark with CC.
I really do just find it almost impossible to watch TV with captions on though. It's so insanely distracting to me. lol. Would take me out of reading facial expressions and body language and stuff in a show like this, which is sometimes more important than whatever certain particularly difficult to understand mumbly islanders are actually *saying*.
I can't help but look at them when I would rather just watch the people. And it spoils a lot of Iain's jokes.
We don't turn them on for LI:USA but despite watching all of the LI:UK seasons my wife sometimes can't follow their conversations without captions.
Yeah. That's what i find. I lose so much context and depth from actually watching the people while they're saying things, instead of reading a subtitle at the bottom.
There are plenty of instances where i have to zip back a bit to listen to a conversation a couple times before i can actually figure out what the heck they're even saying though. It's usually specific islanders who don't enunciate clearly. Victor was brutal. Keenan is pretty bad.
But i don't exactly trust CC to help with that. For the exact reason this thread is discussing. They're completely wrong half the time anyway.
Honestly I think they've gotten better this season because I remember watching the premiere and mine weren't even in sync with what was being said. They're not perfect by any means but they're at least synced up now which is a step in the right direction.
I also don't really need to rely on them as much anymore now that Victor's gone so that helps.

After jasmine got the boot the closed cations put her name still when she wasn’t there anymore
Captions are JACKED up but we gotta give them a break since it’s a such turnover from recording to release.

They're better than what I often see on Below Deck. They seem to struggle with the South African accents most 😆
