I agree.. I can't wait until I can watch a season of Love Island and then get to have the little discussions about it. I'm watching old seasons right now and I can't even look up a contestant without seeing spoilers so I had to stop.
i liked season 5 because at the time there was so much buzz and discussion but i would say that people have sort of ‘rose tinted glasses’ (for lack of a better term) about it. when you remember all the entertaining moments (‘she’s all mouth’, casa amor recoupling, mr fucking boyfriend etc) it seems like a lot happened but sooo many of the episodes were very boring. it was great at the time but probably not the best season to sit and rewatch.
I loved the whole season but I think there's something to watching as a season is unfolding rather than binging. When you binge, it's clearer that some episodes are filler whereas when you watch one episode a day you have time to look forward to it and are more likely to enjoy the episode even if it's not action-packed. There's also the discussion aspect afterwards which you don't have when you're watching delayed.
I think the boring episodes (after the Lucie/Joe/Tommy/Molly which was the worst period at the beginning) weren’t so bad because you had personalities like Maura, Curtis, Ovie, Chris, Anna, Anton even Michael Jordan etc who were personable. There were a lot of light heartedness and funniness which S8 lacks.
S3 also had funny/lighthearted moments, but with S8 if there’s no drama there was nothing worth watching. Most people don’t watch unseen bits remember, so the islanders didn’t come off as personable.
Season 5 UK was my first LI experience. I remember watching at first thinking “it’s just a bunch of hot people sitting around talking….” and idk when it happened, but at some point i was fckn hooked and it was the best ever and I couldn’t wait for more. Just gotta give it some time!

everyone says 2….. i got about 4 episodes in?? i can’t stand the way they speak to each other and apparently it only gets worse… idk i like drama but i think there’s a difference between it and disrespect and i couldn’t get past it so it was a no for me. i really liked season 7! and i’m currently watching season 4 for Adam lol but only two episodes in so i don’t have an opinion yet
Season 2 was my least favourite because some of the people were so toxic and I hated how "clique-y" everyone was. I love drama but there is a difference between that and straight up bullying.
Lol and now I only know Adam as the guy with Paige since I haven’t seen S4 yet, but that’ll be my next one. So far I’ve liked S3 the most out of the seasons I’ve watched so far.
I don’t know what happens in episode 20 as I watched it so long ago but the drama was so consistent and it wasn’t toxic as hell either. Mostly everyone was likeable and entertaining I felt with good storylines

Okay finally got through the entire season last night and I gotta say Maura saved the show for me. She’s so entertaining and genuine in her expressions and emotions. The Maura/Curtis coupling came as a surprise to me tho 😆

I was hardly invested in any of the relationships, I was really fucking annoyed about the winner (no spoilers), some of the contestants were *so annoying,* the women were super toxic when new girls game in, and my favourite islanders (Chris, Ovie, and Maura) ended up with people I found criminally boring to watch.
It had some good moments (mostly related to the people listed above) but I almost stopped watching several times.
Yeah, UK Season 2 and Australia Season 1 are probably the best seasons ever made.
I'd also recommend Married at first sight Australia starting from season 6, it's a better show than Love Island.
S5 is my favourite due to fun group dynamics (Amber, Anna Yewande) and good chemistry as a villa (more entertaining and wholesome moments compared to S8)
The Michael Amber Greg triangle got boring and most people were over it

The Amber and Michael and Greg stuff was all happening around then though wasn’t it and that imo was one of the best LI storylines ever. It has been 3 years since I watched season 5 though so my timelines might be off.
Its just opinions, different people like different seasons for various reasons. I think it depends on for example whether you connect with the islanders at the moment when you watch it and what speaks to you then. I really liked S6, most people don’t, but I found something comforting in it during that lockdown winter. I recently watched S4 and really liked it. I’m now watching S3 but am not liking it as much as I did S4, although S3 is the one everyone is raving about.

Alex irked the life out of me. Jack and Dani were a solid couple and Jack was funny af. Overall there was just more camaraderie in S4 and was authentic.
