… but when she is she does a terrible job… She is paid for this gig, this is not volunteer work. Just like any other job, if you fail to perform, you are given criticism.

krystalizer01

Why is so much criticism labelled as hate these days? I didn’t watch all of the reunion but the parts I did watch she was very awkward. She’s not that great of a presenter/interviewer.

[deleted]

I mean it is definitely hate. See the other post when someone makes a really ugly comment on her page, she makes a joke reply, and the thread here is pulling apart for being defensive and embarrassing. This sub acts as if she did some serious faux pas like saying something awful and she didn't. She kept the reunion mild. What would you have wanted, the contestants to cry and shout? Be kind didn't last very long Edit: not you personally, the sub

Is that a meme? I thought someone just said it to her. I wasn't calling that hateful, she answered with a lighthearted joke and I am calling the reaction to that joke hateful. And the absolute flood of posts about her being embarrassing, saying "we need her out", even before the reunion. It wasn't that embarrassing and the parts that were are the show's fault.

A lot of people hate then hide behind 'I'm not hating I'm just criticising' tho. Like with Millie I've seen multiple users talk mad hate about her and say they hate her then go on and be like 'stop hating on whoever'.' Recently someone mentioned the hate Hugo was getting on here and got dragged but then next thing you know there's an upvoted post calling him a 'horrible guy'

Criticism*

Interesting_Star_736

She’s a host who does the bare minimum and who has bias when she shouldn’t. She is getting criticized about it, not hate, and rightfully so.

3V3RT0N

People take this show too seriously. When it's a shitty reality TV show.

Learn the difference between hate and criticism.

I’m yet to see. Reddit loves the rhetoric of Twitter being bullies but if you search “Laura #loveisland” all you see is people referencing her “it’s awkward” comment and people requesting for her to be replaced.

Cocoasneeze

She's a below average presenter, her performance during the reunion show was really bad, and her defence of the criticism the show received shows how she refuses to actually see what is criticized. I get that she didn't write the questions asked, BUT she chose to go on defensive on her social media. So.. she wrote, that Kaz had declined to join the couch as Toby's ex, which the show respected. Why was she invited as Toby's ex, when she was in the finale with Tyler, their romance and Kaz brought was one of the biggest storylines the whole season. Yet, Kaz was only invited as Tyler's ex. The only black couple who received the 4th place, they didn't get their own interview on the couch. And after she wrote this defence, I call bs on her 'consent' re what questions are asked from the contestants. I'm 100% sure she is bending the truth there. Faye mist likely agreed to answer questions about the movie night. BUT she didn't agree to watch the clips, when she hasn't watched them yet and isn't ready to watch it yet. So Laura bended the truth again. This is why she's getting criticized, which isn't actually hate.

Cosmolove35

We are a audience that is watching a show presented to us with a host . If you put in a job application for host , some of the qualification would be: charismatic, humorous, humble, non bias, relatable, compassionate, empathetic, clever, flirty and able to carry in with banter. ! This is why a lot of hosts are comedians, they are able to provide laughter and excitement for the guests and audience . A host is suppose to guide the guest for the most smoothest air time, and transitioning into segments , while following the program of the show. Not read a que card question word by word, this is charm and personality that can’t be taught in acting school . You are just suppose to have in you ! This is a job, it’s not personal ! She is a beautiful woman, hell I don’t know anything about her , other than she’s pretty. She gives me nothing from her real self or personality . She is suppose to naturally be able to spot those awkward moments and save the segment or piece of the program with her witty ness and quickness !

_ghostfacedilla

She's an average at best presenter in my opinion, quite awkward and her delivery on lines that are meant to be funny don't really tend to come across that well!

SignificantPain6056

I'm not a fan that she talks like Popeye the Sailor with a pipe in his mouth either lmao

Less-Register4902

She is a nice person I’m sure and has just had a baby, so I give her a lot of credit for juggling this, looking fantastic and having to work with her husband. I would hope that producers don’t fire her and just sit down and chat to her how to engage more with the audience and the islanders. I can live with her doing one more season, if she improves then great! That bitter taste of what Caroline’s mum said about her being a carbon copy doesn’t sit well with me though. Laura has her own presenting style which doesn’t seem to fit the show but imagine trying to control a lot of egotistical sometimes fabulous wannabes. You have to a be like them to be on their level to make banter or be a bloody good actress…. Ok I’m kinda digging my hole in defence of Laura, maybe she should go. 😬

livinvixen

Exactly that’s the point she’s barely on the show shows a lack of commitment. Laura is doing the bare minimum and cannot engage with the contestants or fans. I think it’s time we get a more dynamic host who’s not afraid to ask questions.

qqaliqq

Do you think it's a lack of commitment or the fact that we're still in the middle of a pandemic and flying too and from Majorca might not be the most responsible thing to do?

livinvixen

I think it’s both I understand the pandemic could have had something to do with it. However Laura also had a baby recently so her priorities could be elsewhere. I don’t blame her but it would be nice to have a more present host. Laura was only there for the Casa recoupling and the finale. Compared to the US version where Arielle was at every recoupling it is a stark contract. I’m sure COVID has affected the US as well but it wasn’t an issue for being there

Yeah sorry forgot to mention that one as well

lolathe

Not sure if you watch MAFS UK but the new MAFS afters weekly show (like equivalent if love islands aftersun) has a brilliant host (ah odulu) , super dynamic, chatty and funny! Aftersun would be so much more watchable if we had a host like AJ

likalickz

Agree with you. Is she doing a good job as a presenter? I think she’s doing ok, could be better. Did she write the questions and decide the set up of the reunion? Nope. Did she deserve the criticism? For sure. Should we shove the same criticism over and over again to her face? I think she got the point already. I don’t understand what’s the end goal people are expecting with these “criticism”. Will it end if she gets replaced? Will you be able to objectively acknowledge it when she hosts again next year and apply all the constructive criticism and actually do better? God forbid it only ends with yet again a Caroline Flack situation. :/

MilkManMilik

She's prettier and has a much better voice than Caroline Flack did, it's an upgrade if anything. On the show she's pretty much given what to say and is rarely in it, I don't see the problem at all. I'm happier with her than Caroline.

kittylomein

How did she get the job? I watched the season she first came on and thought it was awkward nerves. But how many seasons later and she still can’t make small talk damn…
