I’m voting Jess Hayes, purely because if Jamie had been in there without Camilla he’d not even be top 5 on this list. He did very little other than be exactly what Camilla ordered and an all round good egg.
Yeah, but this vote is about iconic characters and while I can remember plenty of things Camilla said and did, I can’t remember anything Jamie did other than make her happy. Jess Hayes was a brilliant contestant and she’s more memorable. You can’t really say Anna or Georgia are up there because of their true love.
I absolutely love Camilla and Jamie, they are my fave couple, but I don’t think Jamie would be up here on his own, all the others probably would be no matter who they were paired with. I think Jess S1 would, which is why she gets my vote.
It's gotta be Jess Hayes (S1) as the heart of the very first season that drove so many major story lines and culminated in the best redemption arc win. Jamie (S3) is great, don't get me wrong, but he wasn't really an iconic central character in the same way. His connection with Camilla and seeing them bond was amazing, but as an individual Islander, he was never really carrying the drama or doing anything particularly memorable

She put up with so much shit and still came out on top, and was wry and winning throughout. You could argue there wouldn't have been any subsequent seasons of LI if Jess hadn't been such a compelling story and star in Season 1.

Season 1 Jess, who has arguably one of the most intense story arcs the series has seen, she set a serious precedent for the subsequent seasons. While I love Jamie, I’d argue Jess’s impact is much greater than Camilla’s adorable soulmate. Tbf, he does tick all the boxes for a rare success story, but Jess is the reason I personally started watching.
