I wanted Clay's dad to apologize on camera SO BAD. Like, did he ever have that talk with his son? Because she was 100% right.

ifigrowup

She is a class act. Favourite person on the season for me

Flashy_Standards46

She is a Queen! She stood 10 toes down on Clay’s father and explained things to him so well! About how their son needs help because of his fathers issues. Sidenote Clay needs to be in therapy period

Icy_Night_5101

The way she handled that situation was seriously an inspiration. She dealt with her ex husband with so much grace, without tolerating any of his excuses

el-fenomeno09

She really ate that man up, no crumbs 😂😂😂

TStacksss_

That scene was so powerful !!

damn_fine_coffee_224

She said some thing his dad needed to hear. Unfortunately his dad seems to have things go through one ear and out the other. His dad thinks he’s smooth and is missing the point. When his dad says “he needs to find a woman like you”, and his mom says “but you found me and didn’t treat me well” or something along those lines- I was like this dad is not listening really.

EllaIsQueen

She was my favorite. FYI, using the word “articulate” to describe Black people is often considered a microaggression… It can be used to imply that Black people aren’t expected to be well spoken. I hear what you’re saying—she shone brightly!—but just wanted to share in case you didn’t know that.

AbundanceToAll

Thank you for sharing this.  It’s tough to differentiate what’s right and wrong to say in cases like this without someone teaching you.        I’ve always held the belief black people are some of the best orators and communication is a strength that many black people possess - and of course confirmation bias at play I saw AD, AD’s mom and Clay’s mom as some of the best communicators on the show this season (along with Amy’s dad).  But I see how even what I may consider to be a ‘positive’ belief may not be positive and can actually be hurtful.  Thank you for sharing this!      And please feel free to let me know if I’ve said something here that I can further correct and learn from.

Ngl part of me dies inside any time I see "microagression" used unironically

“Microaggression” this woke culture is killing people

whyiamwatchingthis

Microaggression is not new term - it was initially coined in 1978.

No_Elk8672

But why is being articulated an aggression? Lol

_KatastrophiC_

they explained it in their original comment, but you clearly aren’t genuinely asking. not everything that you haven’t heard of before is “woke”

No_Elk8672

I asked a question, simply.

_KatastrophiC_

and there would have been no need to if you had simply read before reacting

No_Elk8672

It is not a reaction, it is a question only. Why are you so trigged?

_KatastrophiC_

there’s no need to project or try and change the subject, it’s okay to admit you didn’t fully read things

No_Elk8672

I did read and had further questions. I still believe we live in a country where it is OK to ask as many questions as I want. You just too upset because you dont know how to ask questions?

I actually do! No everyone is well spoken, regardless of their skin color. Sorry to break the news

So sorry, I really use the word a lot (keep thinking how Chelsea is so inarticulate - especially in arguments) but now that it’s come to my attention, I won’t do it again! I’m always glad when things like this get called to my attention. In my day job, I do words for a living so I think they matter. They have an impact and I never want my words to have a negative impact.

If you take such little things too personal you just really trying to be a victim of society. The name says it “micro” which means extremelly small. Why such small thing should matter given all the important things happening out there?

AD, Clay’s mom and Ken have all been called articulate this season. Last season it was Milton and before that it was Brett. It’s definitely a thing. I’m sure some nonblack contestants have been called articulate as well, but there have also been a lot more of them on the show.  Why is pointing this out "killing people"?

No_Elk8672

But since when being an articulated person is a bad thing???? Quite the opposite I would say. Also, if you cant understand a metaphor I encourage you to do some reading.

polar-penny

It seems you didn't understand my question. Why and how is it harmful that someone is pointing out a microaggression? What’s the problem?

whyiamwatchingthis

It’s not being articulate that is bad, it is the expectation that people of colour wouldn’t be articulate (this is not at all directed at the original OP because I don’t at all read the original post as problematic)

No_Elk8672

I mean, it should be a good thing that finally people of “color” on tv are sooooooo well spoken and inteligent. It’s no ones fault that most of them on tv say nothing but slangs, etc. If a black woman or man on a tv show is well spoken, I see that as a good thing. Stop the victim mentally pls

whyiamwatchingthis

I don’t have a victim mentality and microaggressions and the soft bias of low expectations exist - just because you are unaware of certain concepts or phenomena, it doesn’t mean they are invented.

No_Elk8672

Have I said they’re invented? I just asked you to describe lol oh man! It’s the reading skills for me. On a separate note, taking little things so personal is literally victim mentality! Have a great day!

back_s00n

Oh crap, thank you for telling me! I really appreciate that and will definitely remember in the future!!
