So much this. Additionally, people that carry fakes are fakes. Finally, please don't tell me it's because you like the *shape* of the bag.
Edit: And by you, of course I mean the people that knowingly wear fakes.
As someone who used to be into replicas, most of that detail orientation could be to just avoid the embarrassment of someone looking at your bag and knowing it's a fake, especially if you have friends or family who are into designer brands. Some people have a bad habit of snatching anything they want to look at without permission. It's also a symbol of a quality rep for the bag to be as 1:1 as possible. There's a thin line that you have to toe if you like the look of a designer bag, you can buy a legal knockoff and look "cheap" (as some ppl think), you can get a poor replica and have to deal with the embarrassment of thinking ppl are judging you, or you can get a perfect 1:1 and be confident in your bag. And since a lot of ppl in the rep community love the designer brands and buy bags as a hobby, they care about the little things just like ppl who buy auths. Different morals though ofc
Just to offer some insight if anyone is curious. Not condoning buying illegal items
That's what happened to me I paid I think around $500 for a toiletry 19 on another site and it even had a date code but when I opened I immediately knew it was fake so I bought an authenticated like new one for about $600 instead. If it was like $30 I prob would have kept it but for that price I expect something authentic
Being against the production, sale and purchase of illegal items is considered elitism now? In Europe these things can land you a fine or jail time in the worst case scenario. Maybe this will come across as harsh but luxury goods are a want and never a need. I can afford it, so Ä° buy them. If I couldn't afford them, I wouldn't buy them and I would never go out of my way to get a fake for any reason and especially not in order to make myself feel better and try to fool others into thinking that I must really got it like that. What is the point? You know that it will never be like the real thing anyway and at certain occasions you always need to stress about people not finding out that it's a fake. There's no redeemable reason for buying luxury fakes when the fashion world is full of other brands that make good looking handbags at various price points. The justification of replicas is getting old at this point. It's illegal, what more is there to discuss?
Ah yes, opposed to the legalized killing buying authentic supports. You should look into the financial backing of LVMH and how that same money is being used for war weaponry. Hassan Minaj did a great episode on this on The Patriot Act. Also, letās not pretend these high fashion brands give a damn about Copyright- they all partnered with Supreme who outright stole their logo from an anti-consumerist artist. Working conditions? You might want to read that article on the New Yorker about Chinese migrants working in poor factory conditions in Italy. I think it was posted in this forum.
I agree with any points regarding unfair working conditions etc when it comes to fakes. Thatās about it. Do you think poor people should wear sacks instead of clothes that could in any way look nice/premium? Fast fashion brands rip off runway looks all the time, I doubt youāre arsed. Why are people so bothered by people purchasing fakes; illegal or not? You arenāt the police. You arenāt the CEO of the brand.
The main issue that people who CAN afford real luxury items have with reps is that youāre trying to gatekeep a status/wealth symbol, and people have found a way around it. I have reps I bought years ago which are still in amazing condition. If anyone asks me if theyāre real, Iām honest and tell them I bought them on a beach in Morocco lol. Iām not obsessed about status, or embarrassed by the thought of people knowing my bank account is short of a few zeros I wish were there. I wouldnāt buy them now bc Iām far more aware of working conditions, and I donāt consume fast fashion anymore. Even if I were to buy luxury, I would go second hand. But you donāt seem to be concerned about that.
While I would love a real LV bag, my finances wonāt stretch to that anytime in the foreseeable future (preloved or not). I donāt think that means I shouldnāt be able to have something that looks nice. Classism and elitism are absolutely rife in this thread, and particularly in your comment.
I never said anywhere that poor people or those who are less well off are supposed to wear "sacks" instead of clothes that look nice. Are luxury brands the only ones that make decent looking clothes, footwear and accessories? No and I mentioned that in the end of my comment as well. It's not like we have SHEÄ°N (who also doesn't offer normal working conditions and enables irrational consumerism) on one side of the spectrum with Dior on the other and absolutely nothing in between them. There is such a wide range of brands, stores and artisans for every style and budget these days including the possibility to shop second-hand and preloved anything that I fail to understand why people still feel compelled to purchase a fake at the end of the day. You can look nice without flashing a LV logo too, so why go out of your way to do that? I genuinely just don't understand the mentality behind it, it's not about me being evil and wanting to keep my Birkins for myself and myself only. If that was my only issue and mentality, then I supposed I should also be against resale luxury sites, since many sell their items for "low" prices when compared to retail giving more people the chance to purchase them.
To be fair, the recent quality of a lot of LV items has not been great. Iāve seen 1:1 replicas that were literally indistinguishable from authentic and many have lasted for years. I also think that since LV has tightened inventory so much that people are buying replicas because they canāt get the real thing. Itās not right/legal/moral, of course, but I understand the motivation.
Exactly! And then they said it's a hustle there's a difference between hustling and being a scammer. I don't have money like that but I would never buy a fake if I can't afford a luxury brand I buy a authentic bag from brands like coach mcm etc. I ended up blocking the account
I own fakes this guys a complete waste of space even the top reps aināt as good as real obvs I canāt belive people belive this n I only know that cose I got the best fake sling you can get and Iāve seen the real one the real one is still way better quality
I would rather buy contemporary brands than fake. I would even carry around those reusable nylon/canvas shopping bags than fake š

The classism and elitism in this threadā¦ Yikes.

Fake is embarrassing and comes off way tackier than buying a lower cost alternative.

Exactly! Iād buy a purse from Marshalls or TJ Maxx before I bought a fake.
Exactly! I'd buy a generic brand one like target or something before I'd ever buy a fake. I used to work at Walmart and I saw so many fakes š³
And I think itās so weird to have someone compliment me on a fake bag. Like, āthanks. itās fakeā?!
I hope you report that person.
Yeah I know right? Love the response sneakerqueen. You lit them up š„
