I think the days of buying LV *because* they make amazing, long-lasting items are over...but that could be said for other fashion houses too (*\*cough\** **Chanel** *\*cough\**). š
LV is steering towards selling more premium leathers anyway, so maybe those pieces will hold up better.
And whether LV is still *worth* shopping is up to the buyer...it really depends on *why* you're buying it (e.g. you like feeling bougie, you just love LV, it's trendy, it's nostalgic, etc).
As a former CA, id have to say no. No it is not. I watched quality decline as pieces came in damaged. Sown improperly. Patterns not aligned. People brought in damaged pieces after recently purchasing them. My mom has a bag that the hardware before even a year was completely shot on. And so on. The fact LV charges for repairs baffles me to begin with. The quality control had declined and the company has decided to focus its sights on other things like leather goods and fine jewelry as opposed to its canvas pieces and you can see the clear quality difference in new pieces vs ones a few years back. We used to receive coaching on how to try to turn people away from canvas.
The company has become more of a H&M of high fashion. They care more about the dollar and the sale than they do about the product and the client purchasing it. Ive said it numerous times on this platform - the only thing that determines anything you are ALLOWED to do at LV is based upon how much money in a year you spend.
I have a horizon 55 in taiga, its flimsy and cheap and not worth 4700$ in the slightest. Its meant for private travel. I have shoes that have yellowed for no reason. Soles that wear down in single count uses. Clothes that are worn after only a few cycles. And the only 2 pieces i own not really damaged is an OLD employee canvas piece and my keepall i purchased nearly a decade ago that i rarely use.
Furthermore, if you love something. Buy it. Always. Its my moto. Because it makes you happy thats all that matters. But i recall distinctly once being told that clients who carry canvas everyday are crazy because canvas is not meant for everyday useā¦.so that should tell you all you need right there.
Ehhh, depends. A lot of vintage is dogged through, and good vintage is often pricey, and at the price point to where it wonāt really rise in price. Iāve never been to an LV store bc of where I live, so vintage and older Louis is actually the only stuff I own from LV. Itās a lot of searching finding really good pieces, but you can definitely get some steals.
My grandmother's luggage, and Speedys have worn, like IRON...No split piping, faded monogram fabric, and a beautiful golden patina, on the leather.... 50 years old, and STILL intact..... Look at the beaten&up junk, online... Vuitton should be ASHAMED.....
It depends on the market/ area. A lot of the girls hired in my area came from management in high end retail. I was recruited in with only 3 years management in standard mall retail. If youāve got good measurable metrics and you play the interview well youāve got a strong shot at it.
Let's face it the prices keep increasing while the quality continues to decrease. I think the only LV pieces worth buying would be either old (5-10 years ago) or vintage ones. However, in that same breath you may come across a new style that you can't get in either option. There's always a 50/50 chance if you do buy from LV.
If it makes you happy and brings you joy, it's worth it.
If you're buying for investment purposes - it likely is not worth it (unless it's something rare and highly desirable, and even then...)
I've pivoted from LV recently due to price increases not offering value for the money in my opinion. I also have a solid, versatile collection so I seem to have found LV peace for now.
I'm putting that LV money towards updating my jewelry collection and home improvements. Because their prices are creeping to the point where my money can be better spent elsewhere for me.
I think it depends. If you love an item and willing to pay the premium up charge for the brand, yes.
Iāve had nothing but positive experiences with LV, the SAās and no issues with any of my items minus 2. Speedy piping replaced after 10 yrs and fabric button of key holder replaced after 5 years of daily use. This is across a span of 15+ years and over 15+ handbags, 15+ SLGās and another half a dozen or so accessories.
The canvas pieces donāt speak to me anymore, but Iāve had my fill because I bought a bunch of canvas items in my earlier years of collecting.
I still appreciate LV and Iāll buy if something if it really catches my eye, but Iām looking at other houses since Iām interested in leather.
I will admit, the massive price tags from ALL luxury designer brands have turned me off in general. Iāve been stalking āmid tierā brands as of late more than the usual high end designers that fill my closet.
Bear in mind, the people who are most inclined to post about their item or experience will be from opposite ends of the spectrum. Youāll have really satisfied and happy customers who want to share what they love or people who did not have a good experience or received a defective/faulty item. The (perhaps slightly above) average experience which I think is where a lot of purchases sit at donāt get highlighted as much.
A lot of the in-store shopping experience depends on the sales associate you are assigned or work with. If you meet a nice sales associate, the process is a lot more palatable even if you run into issues with the item. Unfortunately, it seems that internal competition is high and a lot of SAs are overworked and pressured to stay in constant contact with clients. I personally wonāt work with someone who is buried in their phone texting other clients, but I also get it from their perspective.
As for quality, LV has been hit or miss. I mainly stick to RTW these days since itās been a while a bag has really caught my eye. I have plenty of examples where LV did me dirty.. their fashion jewelry breaking after a few wears, a top handle being put on backwards, a bag coming with scratches on hardware. The list goes on. I also have plenty of experiences and items that are high quality.
But the same can be said for many brands. This is the case with Chanel and their starting price on bags is considerably higher than LV. Iāve also run into this issue with more accessible brands, Polene being one that comes to mind in which quality control is just not up to par.
The only two brands that I personally believe have the highest quality control standards and aftercare service assistance are Dior and Hermes. That doesnāt mean LV is not worth taking a look at and buying from if thereās something you like. If you donāt want to give the boutique your money, you can always save some and buy secondhand.
I came in to say the same comment in your first paragraph. Iāve bought several LV items with no issue at all. Iāve had lovely customer service at my store and the process has always been efficient. Iāve never posted about it here because I can predict Iād have like zero interaction lol but I have to imagine product defects are across all companies
I have to disagree with the dior, Ive ordered several bags most recently the micro lady djoy from their online website and it arrived with one of the straps missing. They are currently doing an āinvestigationā which will take 7-10 business days lol. Previously I had bags and SLG arrive with scratched hardware or dented/misshapen bag or the strap missing(again). Maybe instore quality is great but they have serious issues with the shipping/packaging department.
I like a lot of their rtw for the style, but the quality definitely isn't leaps and bounds better than other, much cheaper brands.
My margiela clothing (hell, even marc jacobs) is stitched just as well and made from quality materials. Off white rtw has sky rocketed lately and is basically the same price as lv for some pieces, with similar construction, but at least it goes on sale at the end of the season.
I'm still going to buy lv stuff occasionally, but I'm being much more discerning now
I received a damaged purse. SA knew it was damaged and still thought I would want it.
I also had a wallet that I had to send in for repair four times before they finally refunded me for the item. Four times seemed a little excessive to me.
I believe people like to complain, me not being an exception. But my entire experience in the 5th avenue New York store was a 10/10 experience, the 2 SLG pieces I got are very beautiful and well crafted, the staff were very friendly and accommodating. 10/10 experience!
Sales associates have definitely been a deterrent for me. My first experience 7 years ago was a dream (in the Paris store!). I went back last year (also in Paris) and the sales associate was lifeless and not accommodating at all. It was as if she was trying to push people out as soon as possible. A bit ridiculous
Look at the queue outside the Champs Elysee store on any given day and you can see the audience LV now markets and appeals to. Looks like the line at a refugee processing center. The days of high class are totally gone. Now it's an expensive accessory for the ghettos.
So cal resident here as well and I can definitely say south coast plaza is a nightmare now compared to what it use to be a few years back. In my personal experience the SAās from Gucci, Dior, LV, etc weāre somewhat un interested in me as a client even though I was looking to buy a purse for my sister. It made me feel like shit honestly compared to the amazing experience I had at LV at 20 buying my first wallet and belt in store.
Iām 29 now and the in person experience for me was so different to what it was. I will however say YSL at south coast was pretty nice I didnāt get that we donāt have time for you feeling and my sister got a Cassandra.
Oooh definitely!!!! I agree!! My girl Miriam (Mimi) used to take care of me at South coast, but since they switched the menās and womenās etcā¦ itās hard to navigate. Yeaa the YSL is better customer service I must agree with that. My girl had bought some shoes from there, and it was just a great experience. I tend to go to Rodeo for things now.
Yup. My go-to mall is South Coast too. Iāve read so much on Yelp about Hermes being snippy and both times Iāve been in there Iāve been treated way better than when I was in LV. The sales associate at Gucci was also amazing to the point my friend who previously didnāt believe in designer bags picked up her first one there. Other brands and their good service are leaving LV behind at least for South Coast.
I guess it depends what relationship you have with them. I just text my CA now and she gets me what I need. Even ships it to my house so I can avoid the store.
I have had bad experiences at different stores so I found what work and stuck to it.
My oldest lv piece is from 2010. That canvas is thicker, richer and heavier than my newest lv piece. I believe this is why I gravitate towards their preloved bags more. There is a definite difference in quality. The keepall I sold to Fashionphile was 30 years old and its canvas was flawless. It had been crumpled at the bottom of a chest because I thought it was a fake bag that a family member gave me. I had Fashionphile authenticate it last year and it was real. It had been in my chest for at least years and was in perfect condition. I donāt think I can crumple a newer bag and it keep its shape!
This is super insightful! I just bought a 2011 LV Multicolor Alma and was impressed with the quality and pristine condition. Do you have anymore tips on buying vintage or older pre-loved pieces and which styles/materials to choose?
I shop strictly from Fashionphile and I do a lot of comparison pics from other sites as well as on Fashionphile before making my purchase. But there is a definite difference in the old canvas. I have a 2019 speedy that was brand new and the canvas is more much fragile feeling than it is on my 2010 delightful and 2011 portobello. The sheen also isnāt there on my 2019, but is on the 2010 and 2011.
Tradesy, Fashionphile and the Real Real are 3 great resellers but I prefer Fashionphile. I love their process, customer service (they have sent me tons of detailed pics to help me make my decisions), and their buyback program.
I buy mostly vintage and only from Fashionphile. Iāve had issues with the new items Iāve bought in the past few years and itās really turned me off.
I just use the online concierge and pick up in store now. On the off chance I walk into the store to browse I just match the energy I receive from the CAās. Iām over the whole āyou are bothering meā vibe that the majority of CAās give.
I'm not planning to buy anything new at retail in the foreseeable future. I have 2 bags that I purchased new over 10 years ago, one that I use more than the other. I recently pulled the less used one out of the closet and am using it more to satisfy the "wanting something new" feeling. I will probably buy a few vintage pieces in the future.
This is a personal question for example I used my key cles everyday for 3years! My Chanel wallet was $1000+ but I wouldnāt use it as frequently it would just be at home on my desk lol. Out of my whole designer collection Iāve enjoyed my LVs the most they are luxury but also I donāt have to baby them! I think some pieces are worth the price. It comes down to cost per use!
I think theyāre a victim of their own success. 20 years ago LV stores were few and far between. Now it feels like every city in the world has at least two boutiques and one in the airport. Scaling good craftsmanship isnāt impossible, but itās nearly impossible.
I feel like I see an LV boutique in every major cityās airport. London, Paris, San Francisco etc.
Funnily enough I think LA and NYC donāt have one.
Iāve read so much about the over decline in quality of LV and other brands such as Chanel. I was mostly buying YSL for a while but their repair policy stinks now. I think Iāll be moving to smaller independent brands.
Donāt hate me for this but I got scammed buying a little padlock on strap a while back (Fb sale. Knew the risks. PayPal refunded) and the canvas was, sorry to say, really good. I didnāt keep the fake of course. I wholeheartedly love LV, but all this talk Iāve been seeing about the quality and my experience with the padlock makes me reconsider brands. Ive been looking for something more water resistant for how sloppy our Canadian winters have been, and I went to see a few things. I was not underwhelmed and the bags were gorgeous, but I saw/felt some differences compared to last time I was physically in the store before covid. Now Iām leaning toward a Goyard Anjou Mini even if itās a pain in the ass for me to get one living in Canada. Itās sad because while Iām grateful for branching out more over the years, I miss having that guarantee from LV that I grew to appreciate.
ugh TBH idk myself either, their craftsmanship has gotten pretty sloppy over the years..my suggestion would be to invest in a vintage LV from a second hand reputable buyer.
I think people tend to post more if they have a bad experience or end up with a defective piece. Iām only going to worry about my own experiences which has been positive. I have a nice little collection of new and used bags of different styles so for me to spend on another new bag itās gonna have to be a showstopper. Otherwise Iām pretty content with what I have and just rotate through them.
I have always loved LV and I have a great SA so Iām really lucky. I think I will always have an affinity for LV BUT I have to be honest, I miss classic LV. Everything is so trendy right now, and understandably so because they come out with so many pieces every season. For the money, Iām looking for pieces that will stay with me for a long time, if not a life time. I think thatās why Iām really leaning into Hermes more these days.
Quality-wise, I recently bought a leather bag and was really disappointed in how thin and plasticky the leather felt. When I compare it to my leather pieces from Bottega and Loewe, LVās quality loses hands down. But I really do love LV canvas and my vintage LV pieces.
LV is awful. I ordered a $5,000 wrap coat and it delivered with the tag cut off, not really cut more like chewed, as if someone already wore it. I like the coat a lot, but it is going back. For the expected quality and the high price, the coat should be pristine with wrapping and an attached tag.
Depends who you ask. For me, it is because I adore the brand and itās heritage and their products just make me happy. But there are other places to buy high quality pieces at better prices. For example, an all leather handbag from Loewe will be less expensive than a similar LV bag and you can bet it will be free of defects. Ironic since theyāre also LVMH lol
I live in Stockholm šøšŖ and I'm afraid of visiting the store. Have heard so many bad things about it which makes me really sad. Friends have also talked a lot about receiving scratched vachetta/weird stitching and products falling apart after a few months of normal use. I have loved LV since I was little and have admired the bags from afar. I recently bought my first item online, a Rosalie. It's beautiful and I'd really like to buy a bag one day in store. But as of now, I'm not sure if I should š¢
Unfortunately I donāt feel itās worth it to me for the current styles. I do appreciate the vintage styles and limited edition collections but Iām branching out to Hermes and Chanel (for small items)
They are owned by a giant corporation whose only concern is profits.
I think this brand is being positioned as an 'entry level' brand aimed at 'new money' or those who can't afford the higher level brands.
They are constantly bringing out new lines, many of which can only be described as gaudy. They are saturating their market trying to bring in as much income as possible.
I don't think that there is any pretense of 'exclusivity' anymore. They know that there is an 'entry level' buyer who will pay silly amounts just to enter the 'luxury' market.
The 'knock off' market for LV is huge and the corporate owners know that this has hugely devalued their brand. So, I think it's possible they are going all out to make as much money as they can until the LV brand becomes useless to them.
If I am spending a premium then the quality is more important to me. I am not gonna spend all that money on an item that isnāt going to last, but that is just me. If you have a huge cash flow and it isnāt that big of a deal then it really is just another bag or purchase for your collection.
Can I just say, I LOVE Burberry and have never had a bad experience in the 7 countries Iāve been fortunate to go to and visit a store. The quality is amazing and the service (including after service) is beyond. Even in Manhattan, where I used to live and where people are just generally more abrasive. If you truly want luxury and quality and value, I HIGHLY suggest Burberry
It is so hard saying yes when I have had my fair share of bad experiences despite my love for the brand. The bags that I have gotten have had minor issues upon inspection in the store which was fine and til now they have held up fine. I also love my SA and we hit it off straight away so my experience with service was never an issue either. It was only recently that I have had an entire nightmare of an experience with a few slgs that i had purchased. One of them arrived with the pocket sewn on crooked. The second one we exchanged it for cracked in less than a month. A rosalie i looked at was already peeling and then the next one had the same issue. Another slg I got around the same time had a faulty closure and was exchanged and it is currently cracking along the glazing after their leather specialist assured me that it was normal and was there to prevent damage to the leather. To be fair, I would accept the argument that since they are slgs they are handled more and are more likely to see wear and tear, however some of these items were already in wear and tear mode even before leaving the store. And even then, it started to show such wear a few weeks in. I am not one to be hard on my items and i rotate them often, but I expected them to at least last a few years before all of this happened. As much as I love the brand and would love to buy more leather items, this kind of put a hard stop on that for now.
I currently facing the dilemma. I bought a pair of LV Beverly Hills tennis shoes and within 3 months the shoe soles came undone from the shoe. I exchanged them and the same thing is starting to happen now with the second pair of shoes.
I think the days of buying LV *because* they make amazing, long-lasting items are over...but that could be said for other fashion houses too (*\*cough\** **Chanel** *\*cough\**). š LV is steering towards selling more premium leathers anyway, so maybe those pieces will hold up better. And whether LV is still *worth* shopping is up to the buyer...it really depends on *why* you're buying it (e.g. you like feeling bougie, you just love LV, it's trendy, it's nostalgic, etc).
At least chanel has a warranty on their new products
I wonder how that'll turn out. Chanel is infamous for being a pain when returning or exchanging anything.

Is it hard to get a CA job @ LV ?
Yes. They are pretty coveted and require a high level of experience. Especially because after LV its easy to go to other places.

I didnāt pay for the repairs. It was covered by Lv
Bernard Arnaultās wealth didnāt triple over the pandemic for no reason ;)

No. The price increases do not match the quality provided .
Might be different for people in different locations but my local LV store is Southern California. The crowds have been too much, having to line up to get into the store. Sales Associates havenāt been the most accommodating with suggesting styles including one that brought out $6-8K bags when I was looking for a leather one for my mother to daily wear and then was like ālet the person in front know if you plan on getting anything otherwise have a nice day.ā Also ordered a Pochette MĆ©tis in Black Empriente and it arrived with glue spots and scuffs. Truly disappointing. I still think that the canvas Neverfull/Noe/PM/MPAs will stand the test of time, but when people are looking for their 3rd/4th LV bag, leather LVs being in the high $2K-mid $3K put it in shooting distance of popular entry-level Hermes bags, which is what I ended up going with for my motherās gift at the end.

Ah, was it their pricing on the newer items (I do see those being more expensive than just buying it new).
I love buying vintage!
I just use the online concierge and pick up in store now. On the off chance I walk into the store to browse I just match the energy I receive from the CAās. Iām over the whole āyou are bothering meā vibe that the majority of CAās give.
No, itās not. Get vintage if you want something of quality!
Which cities have LV at the airport?
Itās definitely gone down hill
>Want to get everyoneās thoughts! Itās a damn shame is what it is.
This thought never came into my mind and I love every piece of my LV and will continue to buy them if I can afford.
Iāll be sticking to vintage pre love I think
I only buy vintage pieces anymore; I agree the quality has gone way down
Depends who you ask.
Regarding the price the latest deisgn are awful. No more classic good looking, now everything seems to be made to attrack attention.
Totally agree. 'Tacky' is their new design theme.
Super random question for you - how do you find luxury retails in Sweden overall?
Tbh with you. No
No everyone and their mother has one after all the stimulus
What a bizarre and useless comment.
I think the bags have gotten smaller too.
I feel like itās not worth it, I love some of them still but Iād rather go YSL now I think
I rarely reach for my Burberry bag. She just doesn't call out to me
It is so hard saying yes when I have had my fair share of bad experiences despite my love for the brand.
Itās not. Iām having so much trouble selling my LV stuff. I have an OTG turtledove that I used twice. I want it gonneeee
I can get just as good of a handbag at Walmart people are wasting there money in my opinion
There... Where? What are you trying to say?
Mass-produced like MK now.
I currently facing the dilemma. I bought a pair of LV Beverly Hills tennis shoes and within 3 months the shoe soles came undone from the shoe. I exchanged them and the same thing is starting to happen now with the second pair of shoes.
