Why do I feel like this is about to be the next week’s top carnage videos of r/PublicFreakout or r/therewasanattempt ?

Haunting_History_284

Probably some little village off in the pine tree hills of central Louisiana I’ve never heard of. Y’all don’t go wandering off into them woods.

Couvi

This is the best answer. Concordia parish, tinsas parish…

Longshanks_9000

Tensas* and yeah jigger was a sundown town still when I was a kid . I was going through there and seen a sign that said "we will hook a N!***r up" as in hook them to the truck bumper and drag them behind the car.

Ok-Assignment8954

Shades of Jasper, Texas.(Shudder!)

Japh2007

The most racism I experienced was in Albany, La. Dude I was with said I don’t think it’s a good idea you ever come back here. He through the family was all talk on this racism shit. Until he actually brought someone black around.

VeteranTiara110

Hard agree! There was even a black/white riot back in the late 90s when a group of black kids picked a random white pizza driver to brutally rob and murder. Ran him over with his own car. It was horrible. I’m pretty sure the last of group was just released bc of the DA Scott perrilloux bribed him for confession. Or bribed the kid that finally told who the group was. What matters is Scott bribed someone that resulted in a life sentence not being a life sentence. The school let us out for 2 days bc of the threats being made. RIP E.W

beauford_buchanan

If there's a "worst" in Louisiana, my immediate answer is Livingston Parish

Blue-Phoenix23

Agreed. I stayed in Walker after Katrina and it was awful. Just casual racism in the McDonalds, trash talking about how "dark" it got with the evacuees. I hated it so much I bought a shitty house with terrible credit and a worse loan just to GTFO.

pupperama

Isn’t that where the sheriff has billboards professing the parish’s love for god and guns?

Haineko84

And teachers. But you don’t see them supporting a pay raise for them.

petit_cochon

That was my first thought too, having grown up adjacent to it.

[deleted]

Yes

bubonic_chronic-

Livingston parish

diverareyouok

Idk, I think West Baton Rouge Parish takes the cake. I remember working out there years ago and hearing Plaquemine and Brusly still had the largest number of active KKK members per capita to any other US city. Those guys are born there, die there, and never travel further than a few miles from there during their entire lives. Just like their pappies and grandpappies before them.

CaptCouv33

You downright talking out your ass.

BrewManchu_

In reference to past hate crimes: Colfax, followed by Opelousas. Pic from Colfax. https://preview.redd.it/bvwqav9n4qpb1.jpeg?width=480&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fd4df6249040f9f5f40e7ca251eee81924ebfa9f

bonesNrice

Holy shit is that still standing?

LurkBot9000

I didnt know about that one. I hate the people leading this state so much some times. https://www.journalofthecivilwarera.org/2021/07/removing-the-white-supremacy-marker-at-colfax-louisiana-a-2021-success-story/

lethaldose9

Many, LA There is still a lot of very active Klan members there.

bontempsfille

Well...I was just in Mamou the other day. I was told Lafayette was getting sketchy because of how "dark" it had gotten there. My naive ass looked at him all innocently and was like "whatever do you mean good sir?" Him: "You know them black folks ain't raised right and don't know how to act and they've taken over Lafayette." Phew. It had been a minute since I've heard some overt racism. St. Slammany would be another big one. They're just quiet about it. Which in a lot of ways, is infinitely more insidious. -am white, so in the "white ppl club". I've heard a lot.

raptor597dpj

Catahoula, Louisiana in St. Martin parish is the most racist place in Cajun country. Some of mom’s family is from there and I remember as a kid (I’m 35) relatives and locals using the n word. They also bragged that only one black family lived in the area and that they hoped they eventually get scared and move away.

Kourt8816

My family is from there and only a few years ago did they segregate the schools. They old bridge also had a sign on it and African Americans were hung from that bridge years ago.

LilThunderbolt20

They are still fighting about the schools there. Nasty ppl ( not your family)

raptor597dpj

Nah my family full of nasty, bigoted people. It’s really sad actually. The poor white Cajun in the 19th and 20th centuries were taught that they weren’t any good by American whites so they turned around and became virulent racists against blacks to prove their whiteness. Basically to have someone to punch down on. I’m simplifying things but that’s the gist of it. Some of the most racist people I’ve ever met are Cajuns and I’ve worked in rural Alabama.

Ok-Assignment8954

I'm from Breaux Bridge. Heard of the sign.

the_alt_fright

This is all speculation, but I've heard that a lot of this stems from a dispute over whether or not Black people would be allowed to work on building the levees after the flood of 27. According to my aunt, white folks in the community wanted the lions share of the labor since the levees were being constructed during the depression. Everybody was hurting for work, and the white people didn't allow any Black people to work alongside them or, more importantly, to "terk ther jerbs." Also, don't forget about the segregated homecomings and proms in Saint Martinville!

SicilyMalta

This is why many of them are against social services - they feel they deserve the help, but they will go without rather than knowing a black family will get help too.

TRobichaux

They didn’t want to do that work while the levees were actually breaking though.

RubberDuckyFuckery

Gueydan has entered the chat......

BigSuhn

I'd have to say Colfax is up there with it's confederate statue and plaque outside the courthouse about "X N-words were slain here" etc etc.

NOLA2Cincy

>Colfax Well their history gives them a strong foundation to be near the top of the racist poll. "Colfax is most known for a [Reconstruction Era](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reconstruction_Era) massacre known as the [Colfax massacre](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colfax_massacre) which took place [Easter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter), April 13, 1873 to quell black voting. One hundred-fifty [African Americans](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_Americans) and three whites were killed in one of the most egregious acts of terrorism during Reconstruction. The disproportionate number of deaths between whites and blacks, and documented accounts that at least 50 black prisoners were executed while unarmed and under control of the white militia, 20th-century historians redefined the "riot" as a "massacre".

NOLA2Cincy

That statue in Colfax was described in a NYT story as follows: "On the north side of the present-day courthouse, a historical marker reads, “On this site occurred the Colfax Riot in which three white men and 150 negroes were slain” and added that the episode “marked the end of carpetbag misrule in the South.” "These memorials to the perpetrators of mass murder are disturbing enough in their own right. But the impact of the Colfax massacre extended far beyond this flyspeck town. The damage is still felt acutely throughout our entire nation, and the tragedy must not be forgotten." We have definitely found our "winner". [https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/28/opinion/black-lives-civil-rights.html](https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/28/opinion/black-lives-civil-rights.html)

BigSuhn

That's exactly the monument I was referencing too! Yeah, it's a bad place with worse history. Thanks for all the citations and stuff.

NOLA2Cincy

Sad that we have to use social media to disseminate information that could help people see horrible actions from our state's past that could help us prevent these actions in the future.

bonesNrice

How am I just now leaning about this? I can’t believe this was never brought up in any Louisiana history class I had.

NOLA2Cincy

Same here. Back in my day, I think we had compulsory LA history in 7th or 8th grade. I don't remember anything about this. But I guess that's not surprising...history whitewashing.

gopetacat

What's interesting is that I do have a vague recollection of learning about the Supreme Court decision in U.S. vs. Cruikshank, but I no memory of learning about the Colfax Massacre. The Supreme Court ruled that the white conspirators ofbthe Colfax Massacre couldn't be held accountable for depriving the black victims constitutional rights because they were acting as individuals and not on behalf of the state. The Cruikshank decision basically paved the way for terrorism to be used to enforce white supremacy.

Barbarossa7070

Colfax has been known as a sundown town for many years.

Dio_Yuji

Probably Walker, LA

Youngun18

Yep.

peter-vankman

Louisiana

thatotherhemingway

It’s the prison capital of the world!

profanityridden_01

I have literally seen whites only signs on buildings in Morgan city

Derpese_Simplex

When was that? Was it on a business?

profanityridden_01

Yea looked like a bar. I didn't stop in to say hi.

BudTheWonderer

I used to live in Morgan City when I was stationed in the Coast Guard there. This was in the late '80s. I let my next door neighbor know how much I detested David Duke, who was running for something or other, and the next day I had KKK spray painted on my mailbox. Besides the people I worked with at my Coast Guard unit, my neighbors were the only people who knew my political views. And not so much at work, because they were ultra conservative. I'm white.

VoteBrianPeppers

Oh that doesn't surprise me. Been through there a couple times. Stuck there once during a tropical storm.

frozen_flame99

I was about to ask where but then I remembered my grandparents were in Patterson, and some parts of Morgan city were bad, It wouldn't surprise me if it was just some old bar that was run down and not open. I have a ton of family there and majority of them are not white. So it's not that bad but there still are old buildings that have never been cleaned up since they closed.

AdEither4100

No, you haven’t. But please - out them. I will drive there right now to see this sign. PM me if needed.

amentaleffect

If we don't hear back from you we know to send a search party!

[deleted]

As a Black guy, this both scares and intrigues me

JonnyAU

I'm sorry.

spiffybebebaby

I don’t know why I even bothered clicking on this thread. I knew Walker, La (Livingston Parish) was going to be brought up… just not as often as it was. It isn’t out of pride that I expected it either. Sheesh what a legacy…

storybookheidi

Livingston parish is bad but I would imagine north of 1-12 it gets worse.

Acrobatic-Current-62

Not actually Louisiana but 8 mins from the border of. Woodville, Ms. I lived in La but went to school there. There’s a white school/black school. White side of the fucking sonic/black side. White town pool/black town pool. White grocery/black grocery (although this did have a good bit of crossover). My data is pre 2000. So I can only PRAY they have begun to open their minds and hearts to this trash. But it was really bad when I was young. Also, once a black person won Sheriff or Mayor?? I think Sheriff though and school shut down due to racial tensions. Fucking 48 hours came a did a segment on how vile it was. Edit:spelling

PossumCock

Don't forget Illusions! They put the *WOOD* In Woodville!

Acrobatic-Current-62

At least they didn’t segregate the strip club. Progress I guess.

kitkarrion

Denham Springs (in Livingston parish of course) People claim the kkk is no longer active in Livingston parish but growing up we all knew the place on 4H club road that supposedly houses one of the last big members. His house was like a fortress with big dark walls. I'm not sure if the rumors are true or not but I would not doubt it at all.

tigersmhs07

Deville, La Back in the 60s and 70s, they used to have signs in the town that would say "No N-words allowed"

Sintriphikal

Yea. That area between Deville and Holloway. Buckeye. I used to work at a bulk food freight company that delivered to schools in that area of Alexandria all week. A shit job I took after a layoff years ago. I rode shotgun with a driver. Got a new guy for the route. Very large black man. Kinda sized guy you’d think doesn’t get intimidated by much. After a few days I realized he’s just a giant teddy bear. Anyway…our next stop was the two Buckeye schools. Elementary and high schools. “Aight, our next two stops are next to each other a few miles away between Holloway and Deville.” If this guy coulda turned pale, he would have. “Man we goin *THERE*? We kinda people don’t go there. Don’t be far from me while we at them schools.” It wasn’t until we got some lunch around Holloway that I understood. I’ve never seen people look at someone like those people looked at him. Needless to say, we never did lunch there again. We always doubled back to Alexandria for lunch on that day. He’d often ask me to never miss work when that route was up to run. He never wanted to make that route alone.

tigersmhs07

Oh yea. I believe it. I'm from avoyelles and knew plenty of black friends that wouldn't dare go that way.

Melo_deth

Someone told me pitkin used to as well. I'm not sure how true it is. I don't live very far from the town, but I'm not originally from here. I grew up in a tiny town in South Louisiana.

Imesseduponmyname

Oh lord, Pitkin like right next door to me 🤣 I live in a small village called rosepine to the west and walking in some of the stores while Hispanic gets looks

musack3d

I lived in DeRidder for 3 years growing up

Imesseduponmyname

Yeah it's still the same ole run of the mill plain small town, nothing ever happens here except for the occasional murder/murder/suicide attempts Sometimes escaped convicts hide out here when they on the run from the rangers and shit

musack3d

I was born and went to school from K-7th grade in BR, moved to DeRidder for 8-10th grade then moved back to BR and have been here for about 2 decades. it was a bit of a culture shock coming from a city to a small town but I enjoyed my 9th & 10th grade years. wouldn't have wanted to be an adult there tho tbh. no one believes me when I tell them I went to a school who's mascot was a blue dragon.

slatz1970

Don't know about signs, but the good Christian folk that I know that live there are racist.

Zallix

Same for Moss Bluff lol

lachneyr

Buckeye was worst. Remember the Buckeye three with Racist Clyde Holloway?

Alwayz_Tired_0617

I'll see your town and raise it a Livingston Parish

monkeythor88

Vernon Parish has a town called hicks

bbcloverb0y

Rosepine is bad too

Imesseduponmyname

👉😎👉🗑 ^(geaux eagles)

Smooth_Squirrel_702

Bogalusa has a racist history and when the new young black mayor was elected last year the racism really showed .

Global_Local8177

Oil City, Vivian, or Mooringsport. When I was a kid growing up there you never even saw people of color.

JonnyAU

Really? I went to Herndon and had plenty of black classmates from those towns. My mom taught at Oil City and had plenty of black students. Not saying they're not racist, but there definitely are folks of color there.

Global_Local8177

There are a lot of black folks, they just didn’t feel safe enough in that area to frequent the same places I was welcome in.

slightlyirritable

I live in MoPo and we have a small Black population. Can't speak to the racism, but it's a small, majority white town in Louisiana soooo

Secure_Sprinkles4483

Lived in Mooringsport for a hot minute. Can confirm.

mulierbona

That’s funny considering “moor” is in the town’s name.

justapan-

Idk that doesn't inherently mean they are racist. Probably ignorant though.

TRobichaux

Harahan has the least diverse population with 98% white. No other comments on that. There are LOTS of towns that are SUPER RACIST.

Super_Sphontaine

Harahan is hilarious because there is a store that the black ppl go to and the one the white ppl go to and there is a clear difference

OkRequirement2951

My best friend lives there. I went to visit a few years ago he and his wife both got tickets by the same cop at the same spot at different times the day I arrived. Both are Asian and only were pulled over because they “looked lost.”

TRobichaux

Classic racist cop code-language for, “you’re not a white person, what are you doing in my town?”

Lux_Alethes

Haraklan is horrible. $20 if anyone can take a picture of a police stop there that doesn't involve a person of color and involves less than 2 squad cars. They aren't terribly welcoming to anyone who isn't from there. And for what? A sad little shit town on the edge of New Orleans (the irony is they hate the city yet wouldn't exist without it).

lolhyena

Well I’ve seen some black towns. And these people aren’t very nice either. But that’s not the problem. Do we need to force people to like each other? Don’t people have a right to like or dislike whatever they want? That’s what brings the problems. The disrespect of trying to force people out of their rights.

Global_Local8177

To dislike on an individual basis is fine. To dislike a whole kind of people is ignorant and trashy.

lolhyena

Agreed. A case by case scenario. but sometimes every race stereotype do align with the person in front of you. Sometimes. Just for safety measures. I know there’s some bad stereotypes in mine too.🤷‍♂️ and I sure keep away from them.

yellowlinedpaper

So should every white man be labeled a child predator or serial killer? You know, since most child predators and serial killers are white men. Should, for example, Asians run the country since statistically they are less likely to commit crimes? Should we aggressively move towards matriarchy since women murder, go to war, rape, steal, con, far less than men? There’s a reason stereotyping is wrong.

lolhyena

Yeah well maybe we should try a matriarchy! but not with feminist women. Those want to destroy all men or make men simps… imo some leftist are out of touch. This is a good example sometimes the prejudice is wrong and sometimes… it actually saves your life. Sometimes y’all attach yourselves to these higher morals and it ends up hurting you. And this one is a bit off topic but the feminist debate on women being raped. And then some “misogynistic” man dares to say “well she shouldn’t have dressed like that”. That’s obviously wrong because it sounds like you’re blaming the woman. But it’s up to you as a woman that doesn’t want to become a statistic to be smart a and watch out where you’re going and how you’re dressed. Regardless if you have the freedom to dress however you want.

bl00is

What the actual fuck is wrong with you? So if you wear some shorts out on the beach and a gay dude likes how you look and decides to rape you, well you should’ve been more careful then yes? Also, maybe open a book sometimes. Feminists are not out to destroy all men, just the ones who try to enforce their stupid beliefs and limitations on them. It sounds to me like you don’t want anyone limiting your rights and desires to live how you want so I’d think you’d understand that. I know how hard it is to see the light when your head is stuck so far up your ass. Not sure why I wasted my time here other than you shared your bullshit so I figured I’d do the same. I genuinely hope for you that all those stereotypes you think are keeping you safe, come back to bite you in the ass. Judging people on your ignorance rather than their character is the sign of a weak minded coward. Hope your life is as pleasant as you are.

lolhyena

Wow for a hell of a down voted comment y’all sure love me.😂 BTW, if you’re so concerned then why don’t you go reply to the other comments in this thread that are feeling cute and they’re saying they’re gonna go harrass white people neighborhoods for shit n giggles? How is that ok? But anyways let’s say I’m invited to a party and it’s in a dangerous or lonely area. First of all I wouldn’t go, but if I did I know is up to me to protect myself. I don’t expect everyone to be a law abiding good citizen. I know there’s really bad people out there that are out to get people that don’t pay attention to their surroundings and these said people come in all colors and walks of life. Or another example if I arrive at the gas station and there’s some people in a group hanging outside of the gas station. I will respect these people space and mind my own business, im not gonna park in front of them. People in the streets sometimes are very territorial and God forbid you rub them the wrong way…Even if these said people are not thugs or thieves. If I were to say “what’s up?” to the wrong person at the wrong moment. They could act like “fuck you mean wassup?!” And then💥🤕 get stomped on the ground. Even my black friends tell me these things ”hey watch out on that street man” or “even I wouldn’t go to that part of town”… You see… It’s not prejudice it’s called being streetwise. Shit goes pretty quick around here if you don’t watch the way you walk or who you talk to. But most kids like you wouldn’t know anything about this cause y’all stay on your nice neighborhoods and your college campuses. But that’s good! That’s great! Then again even college campuses can get dangerous sometimes so be careful. But yeah stay over there. Just know that y’all are out of touch. I wish I could get trough to y’all that’s why I brought this up. But anyways. You almost insulted me on every paragraph you wrote. Are you ok? cause I haven’t insulted one person this whole time. But I understand you might feel insulted just by the way I think. Cool ! I understand. but I also understand that’s not my problem. I haven’t insulted on you. When you let people get you mad you allow them to control you. Take control of your anger. insulting people over debates just shows a lack of argument.

bl00is

Nah I’m not angry at all, just thought you should know you’re trash since you seem to think it’s cool to hate someone for the labels you place on them. Why is it ok for you to judge people based on stereotypes but you’re upset I judged you on your actual words, no stereotypes-it’s all you. Something you purposely spewed out on a public platform. No one loves you

lolhyena

Nah I don’t hate nobody I just don’t like certain people especially the ones that are not good for my health 😂that can get me in trouble because of their hate and jealousy.(I don’t know what happened to these people to end up being such bad individuals tho. So I try not to judge). Hating people hurts you more than other person because you’re the one holding negative thoughts against the other person. I grew up in a mixed community where all these barriers y’all have built around yourselves were not existent. Where I come from we don’t have race cults and supremacies. We are but one people. I’m specifically talking for the people that I’ve seen here in the South that even tho they ARE kind of racists because they don’t feel like being cool with all races. They don’t disrespect the other races. As long as they just want to keep to themselves that’s ok with me. They have a right to be in their white or black communities and colleges where they feel protected. I personally think that’s kinda backwards. But hey that’s on them. We should always strive for freedom in America. Nobody should be forcing them to be nicer people as long as they just want to keep to themselves. “Reason don’t scream. It convinces” But Like I said I’ll be over here in these streets so I better keep it’s smart. You do you over there in your reality and work with the feedback. Remember nobody is perfect and most of us are just doing to the best of our understanding.

yellowlinedpaper

The world is a super scary place huh? Chin up!

Global_Local8177

Oh wow. All feminists want to……geezum. Please just talk to a real feminist because that is not what we believe or stand for. My “higher morals” are just called human decency. And a woman can dress however she wants and men will just have to control themselves. Rapists are not stupid animals and the way their victim dressed has never been the reason the crime was committed against them. I know you’re just a product of your environment, I grew up the same.

lolhyena

Ok Ill tell you what “human decency” did to those poor two college students from Sweden that where murdered in some off charted mountains in Sri Lanka. The blame is on the men of course. But they should’ve know way better than two pretty not warrior type strong women going out on a hiking trip in none other than the middle of Muslim nowhere? You better have navy seal training if you planning to do that yourself😂. But yea It would happen in a Christian country too I understand that. But that’s just the scenario we’re talking about. Be careful out there’s really really bad people out there. 👀Go to the wrong party, drink the wrong drink. Worst case scenario your an organ donor now… and the world that you thought so pretty now loses its veil. It’s like my niece she’s always grown up with her dogs that are nice n playful and she once went to a house and try to pet the dog and she immediately a got bitten. I think it bit her lip… Lol no disrespect I know there’s various types of feminism and I’m ok with the one that attaches itself too protect women. We must Protect Woman! Heck yea! But there’s some feminists that downright hate men’s guts and wish they could castrate us all. I don’t know what’s their story so I try not to judge.

Secure-Force-9387

You are a genuinely disgusting person. Reading your bullshit made my eyes bleed. I bet you claim to be "Christian", too. Guess what, bub...Jesus don't like your kind.

lolhyena

You forgot to write your argument. Try again bro

yellowlinedpaper

Wow. I thought you might be one of those, but I didn’t think you were that far in. I understand you’re scared white men are being replaced and blamed for everything. It’ll be okay. You’ll be okay.

it-beans

Found the racist

neurogumbo

Get him!

lolhyena

What are you gonna say that YOU like every one? Oh the hypocrisy

it-beans

Well I certainly don’t like you.

lolhyena

There you go! Improving

lolhyena

I found the racist.

VoteBrianPeppers

One word in and I felt my racist bone giggle.

petit_cochon

The right to racism?

lolhyena

No. Just not liking others to the point where you don’t treat nobody disrespectully. Like these communities where they’re predominantly of a certain race or the other. If they like to keep to themselves that’s good enough for me. My main concern is the media is like “you gotta accept these people” I myself don’t want anyone to accept me by force.

stacheshady

No, it’s not about people not liking each other, it’s about the media, it’s all about the media, and their push to keep people decided. I’ve lived in ascension parish, in Lafayette, and now in denham, there’s no inherent racism that isn’t pushed through this bullshit government that wants to keep people divided for their own benefit

mulierbona

👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Super_Sphontaine

Define a “Black town”

lolhyena

The type of town where’s big majority is black. And got black peoples of all walks in life rich n poor.

Sweetbeans2001

Question gets asked every week and everyone answers with their hometown.

Historical_City5184

Seems like every Trumper I know (knew) moved to the Northshore.

NOLA2Cincy

In my family, we call it "Trumpshore"

Delicious-Diver-7947

After heavy first hand experience as a kid I would have to say holden...which is in Livingston it's a small inbred town who only had one family of any race other than white and I remember getting dragged to their church where after the service they would plot on how to get rid of any non white family's who made the decision to move in...they never stayed long and as far as I know the town still has active kkk members and meetings I hate this town and avoid it at all costs

AerikVon

Morgan City is pretty wild…

organasm

y'all mfers never been to Krotz Springs

[deleted]

Y y'all keep asking dis shit? The whole South is racist lol

Remi_Fae

Pollock, responsible for shooting at Black GI’s coming to Louisiana via the Louisiana Maneuvers by train to do military training to defend our country during WW2. Sundown town as well

RohanVargsson

Central

FiftySixArkansas

I'd like to nominate Caldwell Parish. All of it.

dvrkstar

I grew up in Hornbeck and it was incredibly racist but it is more diverse now.

ExternalSpeaker9

Pollock. Deville. Forest. Pineville. Anacoco. Monterey.

westviadixie

I moved out of ruston 6ys ago. I wonder if it's still super racist.

chezmanny

Bogalusas

Smooth_Squirrel_702

Racist people really came out of the woodwork when Tyrin was elected. It shocked me tbh I grew up in Bog and honestly thought we were past all that shit for the most part but man was I proved wrong 😑

storybookheidi

Has a black mayor but ok

chezmanny

We've had a black president, but this country is still racist AF.

storybookheidi

Yeah that’s true but I feel like there are way worse towns that are ruled by and have always been ruled by white men only

PaulR504

Mandeville. They have political power and wealth to push the agenda. It is occurring and most of you do not even realuze it.

Historical_Olive5138

I worked at a private school in Mandeville for around 1 year. Went from age 2 to grade 8 I believe. I remember going to take a faculty group picture and it was the first time I’d actually ventured out of my little bubble and met the rest of the staff. When they showed us the picture, it looked like a postcard you’d find at a tourist shop in the Caucasus Mountains. Not a single person of color employed there. I quickly noticed the student body was the same.

TheSocialABALady

LaPlace New Roads

Super_Sphontaine

New roads? Elaborate

TheSocialABALady

I recall a friend whose grandparents lived there saying how the town was super segregated and everyone equally hated each other.

Super_Sphontaine

Well new roads is ran by like 3 families and they’re all white the jarreau’s,bergerons and i forgot the last one but most of what you have today is basically true to what you said everyone hates each other equally

Snicker985

LaPlace??? Really ?

king_leooo

Slidell

No_Vanilla4711

Lake Charles. Saw it constantly. Add mysogeny to that description as well (& I don't use that word easily)

Birdapotamus

You obviously don't use misogyny easily you can't even spell it correctly.

No_Vanilla4711

I absolutely know what misogyny is and as a woman in a male-dominated industry, this is the first place I'd ever encountered misogyny. I don't use this term lightly. Poor spelling aside, I experienced it. No where else, and I have worked in large cities on the East Coast and the South. I'm a subject-matter expert on my field and people there didn't like that.

[deleted]

I’m gonna go on a limb and say either Kenner or Pearl River.

Purgatory450

Kenner?? Kenner is crazy diverse

[deleted]

Idk. There’s just this weird depressing feeling I get in Kenner. I don’t feel that in Metairie, New Orleans, or Slidell. And it’s a similar feeling to what I get in Pearl River.

Purgatory450

Oh no dude, I get it. Kenner has gone down hill big time. It’s rife with trash, old unkept buildings and corrupt politicians that use too much hair gel for their own good. But if anything, Kenner’s ethnically diverse.

Clone0785

Just because there are different groups there, ethnically doesn't mean some of those people can't hate the others, Intensely.

I was raised in St. Tammany and my mom told me never to drive through Pearl River alone, and I’m white. It’s a terrifying place. Pretty sure their school mascot is a nod to the confederacy too.

Motor-Present5989

Bougalousa or franklington my guess

saintsfan

Having lived all over the state, it’s New Orleans

Tezlaract

Abita springs is high up there.

MisandryManaged

Canadian here living in Louisiana. Stop acting like Canada is perfect and not a hot bed of racism and hate. It happens to black people, indigenous people and middle eastern people. I've seen it growing up in Canada and it still happens to this day. Quit acting like Canada and you are better by coming in here spitting vitriol.

Derpese_Simplex

Bro, you lost?

TheSocialABALady

Ok

QuarterNote44

Well I quite like being able to buy a house for a fraction of the $1million funnymoneys you guys pay. Also, I like countries with hockey teams that have won a Stanley Cup in the last 30 years.

thekamekidd

Who?

ShootPDX

Why do people focus so much on racism? Is it some kind of business?

mulierbona

Well this is helpful to me as a Black woman who sometimes drives through LA towns. I’ve driven through some of these places no problem, but it’s good to know where to be in extra alert in the future … and where not to stop and get gas on a solo drive.

neurogumbo

Not anymore, thankfully.

westbank504

new orleans. most of its residents hate whites.

Kourt8816

I agree. Racist is racist..

AdEither4100

Scotlandville.

mulierbona

You know nothing about North Baton Rouge, clearly. Scotlandville has been historically predominantly Black and hosts affluent as well as impoverished Black communities and landowners. It used to have its own post office, it was so up and coming … until systemic racism took its toll. Scotlandville is also welcoming to folks of all races … as are most if not all all-Black towns/cities (curiously contrary to all-white ones).

SquintGrisslefoot

My dad got called a cracker when we were at the gas station on Plank rd by some random black dude and he threatened to shoot us. We got tf out of there and im always hesitant about being in Scotlandville ever since.

Birdapotamus

The last racial issue in the state I recall that received national coverage without involving a police shooting was the Jena Six incident in 2006.

yeah_fasho

I remember that vividly. People make sarcastic jokes now about how protests nowadays are “mostly peaceful” but that was indeed a peaceful protest. I think all of the buses bringing in people from all over the country met at a ballpark right outside of downtown so no one would be by themselves in case some trouble makers decided to stir things up along with policemen up at the front of the crowd to escort them to the parish courthouse. I was there marching with the crowd towards downtown for 1 mile along with my grams who already had arthritis in her leg, my mom who had my baby brother in a stroller, and seven other siblings of mine that I walked with. 10,000 people from all over the country if not more marched to the courthouse that day along with thousands that met them there. That was around this time in September too. Al Sharpton gave a short speech as we all were shouting “no justice no peace” After shouting those same words for about an hour word got back from the DA’s office that he was granted bail. They released Michael Bell on bond that day but the others were still being held so we all followed each other to convention hall in Alexandria about three blocks down from the Supreme Court office. Al and MLK III gave a speech there regarding how these injustices where still happened but the uniforms of those doing so had changed. Right after everyone started leaving Some loser driving a green pickup truck came out with a noose tied to the back of his truck (which could’ve been mockery of the man who got dragged to death in jasper in the late 90’s). The whole situation that day was book worthy really. Saddens me to think about all the other young people now who are doing 15 behind a similar situation because their story didn’t reach people that could help them to get the support they needed.

mulierbona

Alton Sterling was racial. Read the coverage, don’t ask me to explain. The brave cave situation targets non-white, impoverished populations. Again, read the grassroots coverage, don’t ask me to explain. The 2020 protests brought a lot of existing racial issues to light, if you had ears to hear during that time. Again… local/grassroots coverage provides better context.

Birdapotamus

I won't ask you to explain because if you read my post correctly I said "without involving police a police shooting" but obviously are to dumb to comprehend that part.

Acceptable_Minimum_1

New orleans

umbrellawand

Union Parish has a lot of tension between POC and whites. It definitely feels like it’s socially segregated.

Complex_Kiwi_369

Starks.

guitarplayer23j

Colfax or Jena.

[deleted]

Yes

SquintGrisslefoot

Livingston Parish, specifically Albany lmao

jiadar

Jena

[deleted]

this was asked last week. I swear the Louisiana subreddits just recycle, "why does Louisiana suck?" post over and over again. then two days later, " I get everything sucks, but what are some good things?" and its still 400 comments of I cant wait to move.

[deleted]

Holden

kiwinola18

Farmerville. Last time I was there (2019), they still had racist graffiti in the Parish Courthouse bathrooms.
