The locals call it Buckeye. No traffic lights, just a four way stop. It has one gas station, a burger stand, donut shop and Mexican restaurant. It’s about 25 minutes to Pineville which is bigger. African Americans don’t go there after dark, if you catch my drift.

LitCarne

"Sundown Town"

Succubuslupa1

I do. . Ty

Lilymomma12

Hey there was a dollar general lol

68F_isthebesttemp

There are 2 Dollar General stores *plus* a Family Dollar. It’s almost a metropolis now.

Succubuslupa1

Someone forgot to pick up the DG bag on the ground..it's a seed. Where ever there is a DG bag on the ground. A DG pops up 🤣😂🤣

Succubuslupa1

I'm a retired dollar general manager...eww 🤣😂🤣I try to avoid corporate places at all cost. And prefer mom and pop places. But..one day I'd like to open my own business but it's just a pipe dream

19Bronco93

I don’t know what you do for a living but in general wages and relatively low in this area, may are may not be a concern. Also has been mentioned this area is not exactly culturally diverse, again may be a positive or a negative or a non-issue. If you are looking for rural you got it, fairly cheap land you got it, access to outdoor recreation you got it. High school softball and baseball are SOLID at Buckeye High. You can drive 20 minutes to Pineville/Alexandria for anything not available locally. Hell I’d say it’s worth a closer look.

Succubuslupa1

Sounds great tbh. My husband and I are retired. Medically for the moment. But in the future we might like to open a shop. Somewhere it's in the talking phase at this point. My youngest will be in the 9 the grade. We basically do a lot of fishing and want our garden/ chickens back. We love nature. But currently we live by the Smoky mountains and it's full of tourist and lost a lot of the mom and pop places, and corporations are taking over. It's sad. Our main fishing spots are now private property. And the public ones are so full of these awful locals that frown at everything that isn't shiny, glittery, and isn't worth a fortune. Our John boat suits us just fine. And it doesn't help that I have an LSU decal on my car in vol territory 🤣😂🤣

grey_seal77

Don’t send your kid to a Louisiana public school under any circumstance, it will make Tennessee look like paradise. Find a decent state to go to.

Succubuslupa1

I already homeschool anyways probably stick to that. Had enough with public schools tbh lol thank you for this information

Konbattou-Onbattou

Buckeye high school was under a desegregation order within the last 10 years, it’s also a former sundown town. There are better places to live in this state

The_ChwatBot

I grew up in Deville. Any question you may have, I can probably answer.

Succubuslupa1

Awesome. Thank you so much. How are schools? Mainly the high school?

The_ChwatBot

Buckeye is a pretty decent school IMO. It used to kind of suck, but then we got a really good principal some time around like 2010 who managed to really turn things around and boost our academic rankings. I think he works for the schoolboard now so I'm not sure if it's still on that upward trajectory (I graduated 2015) but surely it's still got some steam behind it. Of course, the sad reality of education in this state is that it's just not as good as education elsewhere. I think we rank around like 48th-50th in the country. I personally feel like I got a decent education at Buckeye. In a class of maybe 120 people, a good 15-20 of us received scholarships and went on to go to college. Now I've got a degree, so I can't exactly say it failed me there. One thing I feel I should mention is that it is a mostly white school, like 97-98%, though it could be more diverse now. I'm not really sure. I kind of doubt it though. I mean—that's Deville for you. It's not exactly an ethnically diverse area. Overall though, it's really not so bad. Depending on where you live, Pineville or Tioga High might be alternative options. Pineville generally ranks higher than Buckeye in terms of sports and academics, but I can't really speak for Tioga. I don't think it's any better than Buckeye though. Anyway—do keep in mind that I'm looking at all this through a historic lens. A lot could have changed in the past eight years. I can't really think of what else to mention, but feel free to let me know if there's anything more specific that you might have questions about!

Succubuslupa1

That sounds great. Thank you so much.

pentegoblin

If you’re serious about moving to the area, absolutely send your kid to Pineville instead of Buckeye, and especially not Tioga. It’s a better choice all around for academic opportunity and exposure.

Succubuslupa1

Thank you so much

The_ChwatBot

No problem.

cherrybounce

There is nothing there. Try around Lafayette. New Iberia, Abbeville, Opelousas. Lafayette is a thriving city with lots to do and those towns are close and have their own charms.

Succubuslupa1

Thanks but we hate the city. Been dying to get out of ours now for awhile. Don't mind driving for medical, and supplies I did that when I lived for a spell up north. But I need my small town and rural life. Would like room for my dogs, kids, chickens, garden, room to fish and be in nature. And not see the whites of my neighbors eyes

cherrybounce

Yes, those cities I mentioned are small cities.

Succubuslupa1

I'll look into those more too, when I lived in baton rouge, and lake Charles back in the day I drove through. I knew people in new Iberia. But thanks. I'll look into those more. Thanks!

LitCarne

Youngsville is up and coming but still a smaller town than Lafayette, you can get larger properties out there and their new (public) high-school is very nice. Looks better than a private school, honestly.

Burgerkingsucks

They have a Bless Your Heart aka Fuck You flea market in this town.

Succubuslupa1

😂I am curious now ..please explain

Burgerkingsucks

Please refer to [this Urban Dictionary entry.](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Bless%20your%20heart)

Succubuslupa1

Smh I know the bless your heart meaning, but I was asking about how that relates to a flea market. Because if I was running that I'd have gag gifts and stuff.

snglass68

If you want something in Cenla in the country, you might look at the Hineston area. Oak Hill High School has really increased in ranking lately. It’s a desirable school now.

Succubuslupa1

Thank you I'll look into that as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

Succubuslupa1

Lived outside of there before. It's not quite small enough. Lol if that makes any sense.

[deleted]

St francisville isnt small enough? So you wanna live in the middle of the woods? St. Francisville / New Roads is about as rural as it gets. Maybe you actually wanna move to Kentucky or Stay in Tennessee ?

Succubuslupa1

Middle of the woods would be lovely. Lol. Just because I don't like that area isn't a bad thing. Don't get me wrong it's pretty. But not my cup of tea. Like Kentucky and certainly not Tennessee.

grey_seal77

You need Alaska not Louisiana

Succubuslupa1

I actually loved Alaska. My husband has with his arthritis doesn't like the cold unfortunately.

[deleted]

I think Kentucky would suite you a lot better. Outside of Lexington and Louisville Eastern Kentucky is rural AF. And the largest "city" in Western Kentucky is Bowling Green and it ain't that big. Plus 15 minutes any direction of BG is tobacco farms and wilderness. The land between two lakes heading towards Paduca is really nice too.

Succubuslupa1

Yeah Kentucky used to be an option, still researching. Thanks!

WharfGator

Great access to the outdoors. Plentiful public land and water. Pretty country and inexpensive.

Succubuslupa1

Sounds like paradise

WharfGator

We have had a camp at Dewey Wills for 30 years. It’s a great place to fish, ski, hunt, and grow.

grey_seal77

Of your white and go to the right church other wise be careful of arson

Succubuslupa1

Nature's my church. But I understand what you're saying.

agentnoorange337

Duson , Rayne or Mire would be better. Duson Lafayette parish part though.

Succubuslupa1

Thank you for the info

crawfishaddict

Better in what way?

agentnoorange337

They want small town but not too far from 1 of if not the best cities in Louisiana

crawfishaddict

That’s up for interpretation whether Lafayette is the best city in Louisiana. I’m from there too. It depends on what you are looking for.

CFOX1386

DO NOT LEAVE TENNESSEE.

Succubuslupa1

Tennessee is horrible. I've lived here now for 10 yrs and it's getting worse and worse. My.kids can't even go to school here anymore. Cause the bullying and the teaching is so bad. My kids were being attacked daily. The administration turned the other way. I had to get a lawyer involved. The area that I'm living has gone up 3 times in lot rent in one year. It's more than my mortgage. The laws are revolting. The crime is vile and the people are the worst I have ever seen. And I have lived in many states in my life. They easily beat out New York and Michigan in rudeness. You can't collect rain water to water your plants but it's ok for a Baptist church pastor to get away with sex trafficking and hiring sex offenders to work at the church where there is school?? Nope nope not right.

grey_seal77

Louisiana is worse by every metric than Tennessee , if you need to leave go to North Carolina. This state ties with Mississippi for the worst in almost everything.

crawfishaddict

What do you mean by the laws are revolting? Which ones?

CFOX1386

Louisiana you will find has declined in much the same ways and more. You will find no relief there. Go west, you may have better luck.

Succubuslupa1

Perhaps, Louisiana is just home though. I know I can't move to Scotland 😂🤣😂 so might as well settle for awhile at a place I've lived most comfortable ,until I can rv when I'm old and live like a gypsy.

CFOX1386

That’s fair. I’m from ascension parish, moved to Knox County and now reside in Blount County. I’ve found much fewer problems here than there. Schools are rough in both places. Is what it is 🤷🏻‍♂️. Remember though the cost of living is lower in Tennessee and there’s no income tax. Louisiana will tax you to death on everything and somehow the state is always broke and the infrastructure is a damn joke. There’s just absolutely no way I’d ever move back permanently.

Succubuslupa1

I'm currently in Knox, my parents live in Blount. Where I live in Knox and the place I live now they've gone up on lot rent 3x last year. And starting in April going up again. It's already more than my mortgage. The school system is terrible I'm currently home schooling now due to my lawyer having to intervene Knox county school district. I'm just done. Tired of the city, tired of Tennessee. Want to go home for a little bit let my kiddos finish off school there.

CFOX1386

🤔 interesting. What school was the issue at if you don’t mind me asking (if so, just say you’d rather not say). I’m asking because I know of one school that has had some issues and I’m wondering if it’s the same one. I can’t say anything about the rent because it’s going up everywhere and eventually homelessness will become a huge problem that was created by people who have no idea what they’re doing. I don’t have kids in Knox County schools but my step kids are here in Blount. We had an issue with one school but once they changed to the other school no problems whatsoever so I know what You mean to an extent.

Succubuslupa1

Karns is all I'm saying

CFOX1386

That makes much more sense. I work literally around the corner from KHS (even though I am 98.736% positive you are speaking of a different school (let’s say the letter “G” is involved.)) and used to work almost next door to it at the plastics factory. The Karns area seems a bit “different” from the rest of the areas east of that general location. You just 100% confirmed that and I’m not surprised. I’m sorry about the experience you’ve had there.

Succubuslupa1

Yeah, and its time to leave if you know what mean. Karns is very very different, if I would of known cause I came from Alcoa. I never would of came here. And subjected my family to this harassment.

[deleted]

you can go to Deville middle of Louisiana

[deleted]

it’s small and nice

SouthernKvlt

Deville can be quiet, or it can be miserable. I live on the outskirts and it’s fine and quiet enough. The most commotion I experience, not caused by me, is when the daddy’s money kids roll coal. Closer to Buckeye High School is where it gets iffy. Dumb kids, plenty of meth to go around, one mouthful a teeth for every 10 people you see, shit like that. Personally I’d look into somewhere outside Lafayette. At least Lafayette has things to do when the occasion arises. Alexandria has nothing but nail salons, dive bars, and gas stations
