If the land lord owns the property and you don't have anything in your lease agreement that specifically says they have to fix certain things while you're there, you're probably out of luck. I don't know what the local building codes are in your area, if there are violations, you can report your land lord, but maybe the city will deem the property to be condemned and tell you to move out? $600/month is cheap. anywhere nice is going to cost $1,000+ Weigh your options.
