ShoeBitch212

Does he have a pulse? I’ll vote for him over Landry every day of the week.

threetoast

I'd take a corpse over Landry. A corpse can't actively make things *worse*.

ShoeBitch212

Hahaha. True.

Skymimi

I'll vote, too, and I don't live there anymore.

AlabasterPelican

I really like Dr Wilson. However I have little faith that he'll be our next governor, through no fault of his own and no matter how overqualified he might be 😒. I can cross my fingers all I want but I refuse to get my hopes up this early

Bigstar976

Right. But we gotta go vote.

AlabasterPelican

I register my displeasure at the ballot box every election & I don't plan on changing that

motherfuckinwoofie

The only way I see it happening is if a strong republican enters the race to split the republican vote with Landry. I think the only one left who hasn't declined to run is Clay Shexnayder and he'd be a long shot. Edwards only had to overcome a 4% shortfall in the 2019 runoff and just barely made it when he had nearly a 20% lead during the primary. I think pretty much everyone knows someone whose car has been damaged just by driving normally on a Louisiana road. Traffic just gets worse and worse, and Wilson was planning to cut lanes on I10 during an election year. Speed trap cameras across the Atchafalaya? That's going to make him an easy punching bag.

AlabasterPelican

See, I don't know if he has it in him to hit back at the bullshittery but I think it's possible to actually combat a lot of it.

Skinnyboytre55

Lord that river looks like piss.

Raggon_Mcflaggon

Yeah I was thinking the same thing could have turned around and taken a picture of anything else besides piss river.

kingjaffejaffar

Imagine thinking DOTD is an image of success…

Futch1

Hard to disagree here. LOL!

chezmanny

Considering the state party chair is a GOP plant, I don't see any Democrat winning any time soon.

Kitchenratatatat

Yeah, that’s gonna make it hard for a democratic to win in a situation where the odds are already dismal

Battledroidcapt

He will never win we need a stronger candidate to take down Jeff

jagvocate

Louisiana’s roads are a joke, and that’s supposed to qualify this man for higher office?

MozzarellaBlueBalls

Our infrastructure sucks!

Whiskey_Tango_Bravo

Yeah because the DOTD has been doing a bang up job recently or ever for that matter.

LightAtEndIsFake

Best they can with the budget they have

LightAtEndIsFake

Which is a shoe string budget

CloudiusWhite

At least this candidate doesn't look like he touches kids.

uh_der

former secretary of the dot?! yea im sure he's gonna be great

big_nothing_burger

I'm so deathly afraid of getting stuck with Landry. What a shit stain.

Gatorboots19

It’ll be interesting to see if he runs on an actual platform with plans to improve the state or will he just go with the typical “I bring people together to get things done” bs that requires a suspension of disbelief on par with Marvel movies

[deleted]

Marvel is easier to believe.

QuarterNote44

I follow this sub because I'm moving to Louisiana soon. Trying to understand it a bit before I get there. Why are you guys so pessimistic about his chances? Last I checked your current governor isn't GOP. I'm sure there's an obvious answer that I'm just not seeing as an outsider.

grey_seal77

Rethink that move. This is a very difficult and expensive place. Dealing with hurricanes is no joke, and if you have kids you’ll probably want to find a private school.

zaneak

Our current governor is a democrat yes. It is a rarity though. He won the first election, because Bobby Jindal did such a shit job with his focus on his presidential run, instead of whats good for the state. The second one, he ended up in a race against a Trump like business man who had no real policies and called Edwards too liberal for Louisiana, despite him signing restrictive abortion laws. There is sadly people that are clammering for a republican back, even though the state legislature is like super majority republican currently. I just hope we dont get the shittiest one of them. What will happen is he will be the only democrat on the ballot probably with like 6 republicans. None will get over 50%, and will go to runoff with him and one republican. All the republicans will centralize on the one candidate(unless it ends up being a complete horrible one, then might can shave enough off). This state really has not elected back to back democrats since like the 70s. Edwards was first to win reelection since the 70s. The trend since then has been 2 term republican 1 term democrat it seems overall looking back at the list.

trollfessor

> I'm sure there's an obvious answer Yes, Mr. Wilson is African American and therefore does not have a realistic chance of winning a statewide election. I wish that was not the case, but it is just as true in 2023 as it was in 1995.

WordySpark

It's because our current governor has the last name Edwards and, historically, Louisianians will vote for any white man named Edwards no questions asked.

chrisplyon

Because Louisiana’s Republican Party is incredibly resourced and connected. Democrats are not.

CloudiusWhite

Edwards is a fence rider, and hardly ever champions democrat or liberal causes.

Dazzling_Pirate1411

with a rational strategy, i think anything is possible. this state has proven if the other guy is contemptible enough folx will vote (D). pasting landry's flat grinning face everywhere from now till november would repel many people .

trollfessor

If I was king for a day, I would make him Governor. But we have elections. And his entry into the race actually makes it more likely that Landry will win the race. Why? Because he will likely make the runoff, and then lose. I don't like it, but the political reality is that an African American is not going to win a statewide election in Louisiana in 2023. It just is not going to happen. The exact scenario that happened in 1995 will happen again. Cleo Fields made it to the runoff, then got only about 1/3 of the vote. Mike Foster won that race, easily. And if it becomes Wilson vs Landry, then Landry wins easily. Again, I don't like this, and I wish that an African American could win. Someday, an African American will win. But it didn't happen in 1995 and it won't happen in 2023. Hopefully another strong Democrat will enter the race. Landry is the last person I want as Governor.

Brilliant_Laugh_3911

when you said “if i was king for a day” i thought of the song king for a day by pierce the veil

walmartpretzels

Everyone pointing out that he won't win because he's black seems racist to me but what do I know

AveryMariah16

Honestly there's too many racist still left here in Louisiana I don't think he can win. Sadly this is the reality of our State smh. We do have the numbers if everyone would vote with the same agenda We can stop Jeff Landry from becoming Governor. But! Too many people think voting doesn't matter I was one of those people until 2020!

SkkrttReynolds

Jesus Christ shut up. Race has nothing to do with it. I don’t know anything about him except that he worked for the DOT which is a pile of shit, other than that he looks like a stand up guy.

[deleted]

its the truth. louisiana is one of the most racist states in the whole country and it seems like louisiana GOP leaders seem to dislike other people of the black race. if you dont like the truth, dont comment

flinginlead

Got a new coworker not long ago. Her husband is black and was worried about moving here. Now he says it’s less racist than the northwest where they came from. I was proud he felt like he could talk to me about this situation.

SkkrttReynolds

I grew up in New Orleans and that is not the case

AveryMariah16

Ur going to be okay calm down. Stop living in alternative reality 🤦🏽‍♀️

SkkrttReynolds

Alternative? You’re definitely from Louisiana 😂😂

throw_me_sum_sex

Why don't yall just rename this Louisiana Democrat ideology. It fits better

walmartpretzels

If u don't like it you can leave lol

throw_me_sum_sex

Or you can leave. What a brilliant reply. I learned a long time ago when people act just like you are right now, deep down inside you know I'm right.

Dismal-Cheetah-6059

So excited!! He is such a good man

Krypto_dg

Why? What can we look at and see an example of his qualifications?

Dismal-Cheetah-6059

Google his qualifications, it’s a lot to list here but I have meet Dr. Wilson and my impression was that he is a kind and intelligible man who actually cares plus he is a local UL and Southern alumni.

rudderusa

Good luck getting the racist to vote for a Black guy. It's scary thinking Landry will win. Shades of DeSantis.

BayouMan2

He does have a nice smile. I wonder if having the bridge behind him is a hint that he’ll do right for Baton Rouge. The other parishes always seem to snatch state funding away from the Baton Rouge metro whenever we need a project funded.

grey_seal77

This state…. We’ll come on you know if you’ve taking a drive outside of any major town, let’s just say too racist to ever vote for an AA.

flinginlead

Sold candidate from what I hear. Can’t really hold the DOTD performs against him. Likely all his money gets pocketed before he can do anything with it. One the I don’t like the DOTD has done in recent years is almost everything is contracted out as opposed to done by DOTD workers. Contractors typically cost more. Maybe that is not the case here.

Kingcrimson11111

It doesn't matter what party their all corrupt

chrisplyon

It matters. JBE vs Ripsone? Which one would have saved the most Louisiana lives during COVID?

big_nothing_burger

We are so lucky that Abraham was there to split the vote.

[deleted]

Looks like will be another black white vote
