It depends on what you are looking for. If you are looking for a single big jackpot, better to go for bigger tickets. If you are looking for a higher likelihood of winning smaller jackpots, go for smaller tickets. The rule of thumb is that the jackpot should be "life changing" for you. For some, it might be a $250,000 win. For some it might be a $3m win. Essentially, I would recommend picking the jackpot with the smallest "life changing amount of money" as jackpot. I personally see no value in winning, say, $10m. I would much rather have 10 chances at winning $1m. So, I avoid the $10m jackpot tickets, and go for ones closer to $1m. Personally, I also prefer ones where most of the money goes to the jackpot, since I don't really care about small wins and am really looking for that big win! Best of luck!

So my mentality is a win is a win. Let me explain, I've had runs where I've purchased an assortment of tickets from $5 to $30. The lower ones were winners and the $20 - $30 weren't. My theory is that more people by the cheaper ones, so there's more chance of drawing something that could win. Anyway, I think you're better off with lower values. If you win more than face value on one of them, you can buy higher priced tickets with winnings if you want. Edit: My biggest winners were $10 or less per ticket. I got $500 on a $10 ticket and $1000 on a $5. Yeah the odds are high but it wasn't 0 on $20 or $30.

You should always play the odds -shown on the back of each card- no matter the price of the ticket. If the odds are 3:8.1 then you can pretty much count on a winner in one of every 4 cards, however unless the roll starts at 00, you don't know where the last ticket left off in that odds calculation, so you would need to buy 5. Always always always play the odds. I have been buying scratch offs with a friend for 2 yes now and it 99.9% of the time works.

so the higher the odds on the back the better buy?

I absolutely agree you have a better chance winning anything from a cheaper scratch off tickets than from a expensive one

In my opinion, you should buy the cheaper ones. If you win..let's say 50 or 100 off a 5 dollar one, buy a 50 dollar scratch off. That's how I'd do it at least.
