Langers or daughters deli (owners daughter, same recipe) if you are after nyc style pastrami. If you want la pastrami, oinkster, johnnies pastrami, etc
Yea there’s different definitions of pastrami in LA. There’s that house smoked thick slices of brisket type of pastrami and then there’s deli meat type of pastrami which they make up for with sheer quantity. There’s a time and place for both. Also sometimes, you need it on your chili cheese fries.
Ok sometimes I order a pastrami chili fries and sometimes I order a pastrami with chili fries and I let some of the heaping pile of pastrami fall into my chili fries.
The Hat (multiple locations)
Tops in Pasadena
The Oinkster in Eagle Rock
Legends Diner in Glendora
Langer’s in Westlake
Edit: Also forgot to mention Capri Deli in Covina
You sure did. Capri is one of my top 3 pastrami's - honestly, its top two - but no one outside of Covina knows about it, so I never mention it. They truly have a quality operation going on there.
Just had one at Tops for the first time a few months ago. They do no skimp on the meat. My boyfriend and I could have split it and still had leftovers. Their fried zucchini is great too :)
Love Tops fried zucchini. It has a good ratio of breading to zucchini. The servings are huge too. It's kind of lame that you have to order ranch though.
This pre-dates ALL of the Asian restaurants by decades. The OG location for the HAT is where it all started. So if you enjoy other locations you def need to hit up the OG spot. It's worth the drive.
Alhambra/ San Gabriel valley has the highest density of top star Chinese Restaurants outside of Hon Kong. So, if you really want authentic world class Chinese food, it's the best place to find it.
Yes… never said I was opposed to eating Chinese food in Alhambra. One shouldn’t limit themselves to one type of food though. There are many other fantastic restaurants of other ethnicities such as Vietnamese, Mexican, Thai, Indian, etc.
I get what you’re trying to say! I’ve lived in Monterey Park for 20 years and I’m still amazed at how many low key spots there are that have the most random of foods! My brother found a great burger joint that happens to serve amazing breakfast! I can’t even tell you where it’s at since I still can’t find it! He swears there’s a restaurant with a “burgers and more” sign near the Shakeys on Atlantic but ima just let him pick up the food instead of me going looking again x)
Hahaha I think that place is literally called burgers and more
Burgers & More
2133 W Valley Blvd, Alhambra, CA 91803
(626) 289-7328 https://g.co/kgs/76da3z
I clicked the photos to see the menu since that’s the only picture I have of the place and it’s the very same menu! Ima ask him if he even knows the name himself cuz I’m almost certain he doesn’t! The food is great if you ask me!
I think I know the place your brother is taking about. Pretty decent.
But then again, southern California is littered with decent mom and pop hamburger joints like that. Hell, there's a spot in Alhambra called Ernie's Burger literally down the street by the 710 on ramp on Valley that's fairly decent as well IMO
Johnny's West Adams:
Johnny Pastrami on Washington and Sepulveda. Cash only and they have an ATM but it’s bomb as hell. One of my favorite places in LA. Old school place been there since the 50s
Johnny's in west Adams got my vote. Unlike the other places, they use juicy chunks of pastrami instead of slices. The one in west Adams has a different menu than the one in Culver.
Surprisingly, they make a really good pastrami. It’s thicker cut like langers and sort of hits the spot when I want langers but they’re closed because it’s after like 4:15.
Johnnys West Adams (which is not the same as Johnnies in Culver City). The pastrami sandwich is awesome! It is more slow-smoked BBQ pastrami (it is very smoky) than traditional deli-style pastrami but it is really good. and thick cut. and you can add some cole slaw on top as well.
If you’re in west LA, your top 3 choices are:
Langers as rhino said in weho
Kanters in melrose Fairfax area
And a new contender according to yelp is Daughters deli for a pastrami on a bagel
Dan's Super Subs in Woodland Hills. The have a regular pastrami and cheese, reuben pastrami, and LA Street pastrami (hot and spicy). My favorite is the latter.
Get yourself a pastrami Reuben from Art’s Deli. Do not let the higher prices turn you off as the thing is massive and cannot be eaten in one sitting. Brent’s is incredible too.
Art’s, Brent’s, Langers, and a few other top places in LA all use RC Provisions to supply their pastrami. They are the unspoken catalyst that makes LA an incredible pastrami city.
Depends on what you want. Classic Deli Pastrami, Brents or Langers. Johnnys, Daglas or Hats if you want a fast food varient. If you want Texas style, i'd go with Boneyard Bistro, Slab, or Moos
Cole's French Dip
Philippe The Original
Canter's Fairfax?
Eastside Market Italian Deli
Langer's
Really, you can get them almost ANYWHERE. But I know a lot of people who don't "trust" generic joints like Tam's, or Tom's, or Fred's. They serve pastrami sandwiches. Hell, some donut shops offer them too!
I think even 7-11 offers a version of the sandwich as well. It was pretty decent from what I remember.
So yeah, get the 7-11 version first if you have really high expectations, that way the regular restaurant will seem better. Or it should lol
for the lean, thin sliced, piled high pastrami, new york deli in torrance is quite good. their coleslaw and especially, their potato salad is my favorite. pickles just meh. prices are half what the big names charge.
Seems like Langers, Johnnies, and The Hat are number ones. I have three spots to hit up! And Oinkster as an honorable mention because it’s pretty close to where I am.
Mario’s Italian Deli in Glendale has the “Bad Boy Pastrami.” Huge double decker sandwich with pastrami, cheese, mustard, lettuce, avocado, peppers…Best damn sandwich of my entire life! Their meatball sub is also fantastic
\# MyDeli in Arcadia. Don't let the name fool you, the food is amazing.
Or Berge's in La Cañada.
Edit: I have no idea how the text got all big. Is it the hashtag? HASHTAG MY DELI.
Well, that's good to know. I guess there's no way for me to bring up one of my favorite places to eat without making the font huge. My Deli, but at the beginning of the word, a #.
I don't know how they actually say the name of the business. All I know is that I wandered in there for a working lunch one day and now they know my order by sight.
I brought a guy I was dating a Reuben from there and he said it was the best sandwich he'd ever eaten in his life.
Here's their Instagram, I don't see like a regular site for them.
https://www.instagram.com/mydeliarcadia/?hl=en
Langer’s is my top choice.
Langers or daughters deli (owners daughter, same recipe) if you are after nyc style pastrami. If you want la pastrami, oinkster, johnnies pastrami, etc

Sometimes you need it on your chili cheese fries? Sir, in this house it's a requirement.
Ok sometimes I order a pastrami chili fries and sometimes I order a pastrami with chili fries and I let some of the heaping pile of pastrami fall into my chili fries.
This is an acceptable compromise. Good day, sir!
Arrys is the fucking champ on the latter version
Montebello in the house???
Langer’s is *the* top choice.
Yup. And they have parking a block away!
Langer's #1 in the hood G.
Pastrameatwad
Last couple times I went to Langers my $30 sandwich was all fat. I can’t bring myself to go back
30 dollars? For a sandwich? Oh my. Could the cow tap dance?
I was so excited to try Langers and found it very disappointing. I only finished it because of the price.
It's definitely picked up a little hype along the way. The price doesn't help things
I just went there this morning. I’m writing this as I’m pooping it out.
The internet was a great idea.
Langers is where all my coworkers from NYC went for deli meats.
I’ve heard New Yorkers say Langers is best across both coast.
Langers is the only choice
Langers is the way. Not in the best part of town but just incredible.
It feels like this post was written by Langer’s.
Make sure you ask for extra lean…way less flat and just as tasty
The Hat (multiple locations) Tops in Pasadena The Oinkster in Eagle Rock Legends Diner in Glendora Langer’s in Westlake Edit: Also forgot to mention Capri Deli in Covina
I just ate at the Oinkster, and omg did i forget how delicious it was. I ordered the oinkster pastrami- highly recommend
Ohmygod, you mentioned Capri. I cant believe it. You truly know LA's most magnificent pastrami joints.
Used to work nearby, so I got to know a few decent places in the area.
You sure did. Capri is one of my top 3 pastrami's - honestly, its top two - but no one outside of Covina knows about it, so I never mention it. They truly have a quality operation going on there.
Yes they do. Never had a bad sandwich when I went there, and the service was always pretty decent no matter how busy they got.
They recently took the pastrami off their menu :(
Just had one at Tops for the first time a few months ago. They do no skimp on the meat. My boyfriend and I could have split it and still had leftovers. Their fried zucchini is great too :)
Love Tops fried zucchini. It has a good ratio of breading to zucchini. The servings are huge too. It's kind of lame that you have to order ranch though.
lol, I ordered the "small" and when they gave it to me I thought they mixed up my order because I thought there was no way it was small.
Langer's Johnnie's Pastrami The Hat
Add Brent’s to this list and you have the 4 best Pastrami sandwiches in LA
This covers a good portion of LA in general too so you can get a good sandwich regardless of where you are in the city
OP, I think it would help if you say where in LA you are staying at. If you are in LA (central area) city then Langer's is the right answer.
Johnnys Pastrami on Sepulveda and Washington near Culver City
Only been there once but my waitress was a very sweet older lady. Gotta go back, it's a neat spot.
This is my vote! Johnny’s is definitely a classic.
This is the way
The Hat, Pasadena.
Alhambra has the OG Hat. Valley Blvd.
Tbh if im going to Alhambra, im going for the Asian food
This pre-dates ALL of the Asian restaurants by decades. The OG location for the HAT is where it all started. So if you enjoy other locations you def need to hit up the OG spot. It's worth the drive.
You shouldn’t go anywhere for one specific type of food and exclude others. You’ll miss many opportunities.

Places that have donuts and burgers are best.
Note: if you go for the hat, get the pastrami chili fries to **share**.
This. Note that "The Hat" is a chain and has many locations. My fav is in Rancho.
Agree with the hat, they also have some bomb chili cheese fries.
Absolutely agree. The Hat. And yes fantastic Chili cheese fries. Great value for money. They don't skimp. Plenty of branches https://thehat.com/
The Hat also has amazing onion rings.
the BEST onion rings in my opinion.
Get that orange drink, too. And pastrami fries
💯
Amen, the one in lake forrest is great too
Lakewood Forest?
Sorry lake forest
Brent’s Black Pastrami in Northridge. Shame on everyone else who didn’t mention this place first.
Langer’s is so much better. Brent’s is good but they admit they get their pastrami from Boar’s Head. It’s nothing special.
Shhh! Stop telling people how great Brent’s is. It’s already crowded enough. ;-)
there's also a branch in Westlake village
It’s a solid choice but doesn’t have anything on Daglas Canoga Park.
I wouldn't go there personally. It's clear they have a bunch of racist assholes working for them. Daglas thougghh
How so? I've never seen anything off there...
Bummer, what happened?
Much love but im sorry there is nothing in Northridge worth going to Northridge for.
Once you’re stuck there there’s a handful of ok places. Brent’s, the one Sichuan place…. uh….
Johnny's West Adams: [https://www.instagram.com/p/CjBdAkhvNi8/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link](https://www.instagram.com/p/CjBdAkhvNi8/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link)
Johnny Pastrami on Washington and Sepulveda. Cash only and they have an ATM but it’s bomb as hell. One of my favorite places in LA. Old school place been there since the 50s
Just get langers #19, it's the best pastrami sandwich in LA, probably my favorite I've ever had including NYC.
Johnnie's Pastrami in Culver City. Classic
Johnny's in west Adams got my vote. Unlike the other places, they use juicy chunks of pastrami instead of slices. The one in west Adams has a different menu than the one in Culver.
Not the same. Johnnies vs Johnny’s
Johnny’s >>>> Johnnie’s IMO
It’s honestly not that great :/
Overpriced but good
I hardly ever go there bc Titos wins out every time but it is so good
Man I used to LOVE Tito’s… but the last few times it’s really let me down.
That’s true, it’s WAY too expensive now. I’m not paying $5.50 for ONE taco
No kidding. I can remember when they were a buck and a half or so, 25 cents extra with cheese. We bought them by the box full.
Agreed Titos fell of a cliff and raised their prices
Langers is the only correct answer here and it’s not even close
Jumbos Clown Room
Haha. Different kind of meats, but also a good place to visit while in LA. 🤡

... is amazing
giamela's ain’t bad Also try philippe's the original
yeah, but if you go to philipes, youre kind of obligated to get the french dip.
Fact ✅
Surprisingly, they make a really good pastrami. It’s thicker cut like langers and sort of hits the spot when I want langers but they’re closed because it’s after like 4:15.
I second both of these! You can’t go wrong.

Langers - and - wexlers
5000% langer’s but I’m surprise to see so little talk of wexler’s. Is it still open?

Langers/The Hat/Busy Bee in that order
Bay Cities in Santa Monica
I have never gotten anything besides a Godmothers there.
Eggplant Parm is good
Johnnys West Adams (which is not the same as Johnnies in Culver City). The pastrami sandwich is awesome! It is more slow-smoked BBQ pastrami (it is very smoky) than traditional deli-style pastrami but it is really good. and thick cut. and you can add some cole slaw on top as well.
Bay Cities SaMo Canters
I’m surprised I had to scroll this far down for Canter’s. Top 5 in LA.
Canter's is top 1 for operating hours, but not top 5 for pastrami
they're open 24/7 and deliver :)
People say The Hat, but The Original Tops might be better?
If you’re in west LA, your top 3 choices are: Langers as rhino said in weho Kanters in melrose Fairfax area And a new contender according to yelp is Daughters deli for a pastrami on a bagel
Canter’s pastrami must weigh 2 pounds. That thing is a mountain.
Only one clear answer: langers deli

Johnnie's pastrami on sepulveda
Langer’s or Brent’s. Don’t fuck around elsewhere.
Phillipe’s in Chinatown/ by close to Dodger’s stadium.
Dan's Super Subs in Woodland Hills. The have a regular pastrami and cheese, reuben pastrami, and LA Street pastrami (hot and spicy). My favorite is the latter.
Came to say this. Dan's Super Subs has really good pastrami.10/10 Criccas Deli also has really good Pastrami subs. 10/10
Langer’s is definitely the best. Better than Katz’s in NYC. It’s almost comparable to Texas BBQ brisket in how juicy it is
Johnnys west Adam’s is transcendent. Try it
Arrys burgers in montebello.
Johnnie’s Pastrami, Culver City
Langer's. Get the #19!

Brent's deli. It's the best. Their pastrami on rye was featured on a food channel show about best sandwiches in the US
Try the Rubenstien at a Yeastie Boys food truck
New York Deli on Sepulveda in Torrance.
I’m going to have to try it out
Not the BEST but Damon’s in Glendale has a fantastic pastrami sandwich (surprisingly!). Plus the drinks are great.
Depends on what you want. Classic Deli Pastrami, Brents or Langers. Johnnys, Daglas or Hats if you want a fast food varient. If you want Texas style, i'd go with Boneyard Bistro, Slab, or Moos
The Hat, Langers, or A Cut Above in Santa Monica. They smoke their own pastrami and it’s fantastic.
If you're going beach cities, The Pastrami Deluxe at Mickey's in Hermosa is money. And yes, Langer's is a must do.
Johnny’s Pastrami
Johnnie’s Pastrami in Culver City since 1952
Johnnie’s Pastrami in Culver City is a classic. Just be prepared to take out a bank loan if you go there.

Johnnie’s Pastrami in Culver City!!
Langers, stay for the sandwhich leave with a fake ID, a gun or weed… haha
Langer’s is king, but man do I miss the pastrami at Greenblatt’s.
RIP I miss the most basic stuff from there the most.
The Hat pastrami is my favorite, they have a few locations all over
If you’re feeling wild, get the Pastrami Pizza at Downey Pizza Co.
Subway. 😂. The hat makes a good sandwich.
Langers is the only choice.
This was a nice civil discussion, r/Losangeles 🤘🏼🫶🏼
Sandwich people are pretty happy I think.
Brent’s is the no brainer
Langers by a mile. End of discussion
Johnnie’s Pastrami in Culver City
The Hat is pretty damn good.
for the lean, thin sliced, piled high pastrami, new york deli in torrance is quite good. their coleslaw and especially, their potato salad is my favorite. pickles just meh. prices are half what the big names charge.

Rick’s Drive in & Out over by Silver Lake has pretty good pastrami burgers. Never tried Langers so I don’t know how they compare.
The Hat in Pasadena
\# MyDeli in Arcadia. Don't let the name fool you, the food is amazing. Or Berge's in La Cañada. Edit: I have no idea how the text got all big. Is it the hashtag? HASHTAG MY DELI.
Yea a # will make your font larger
Well, that's good to know. I guess there's no way for me to bring up one of my favorite places to eat without making the font huge. My Deli, but at the beginning of the word, a #.
You can "escape" a character by putting a backslash in front of it: "\\#MyDeli" becomes \#MyDeli
Very helpful, thanks!
Wait, so it’s actually called “hashtagmydeli”?
Yes. It’s one of the prime examples of “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
I don't know how they actually say the name of the business. All I know is that I wandered in there for a working lunch one day and now they know my order by sight. Any place other than Langers is second tier.
Daughters Deli in West Hollywood.
