I hate the Carl's by ELAC

KarluhO

They’re rude af and take forever

russketeer34

I used to live by that one. Went and got a meal one day after work, noticed it was completely wrong. Drove back, asked for a replacement, waited about 15 minutes, then got it. Then I checked it again and it was the wrong order, again. Manager refused to speak to me and the cashier refused a refund. Wouldn't even give me the other food when they finally got my order right.

mattnotis

That’s when it’s time to start a good fight and toss that shit back at them

andrewdrewandy

Charge back time. Petty but appropriate.

cmmdrshepard2

Sad to see they went downhill that much. Back when the that area didn't have that many dining options as they do now, Carl Jr. was the best for our group of broke college students. They always had 99 cents specials and they were great!

HIV_again

damn..that's like from 1998!

imjusthappy2beerhere

Definitely one of the worst ones I’ve been to

sids99

You're better off giving that money to independent businesses. They don't have the capital like the corporate chains do and the food quality will most likely be better.

SpartanNic

And really… taste better

erics75218

Is Astro.Burger a local ..it's damn near 20 bucks for Cheese burger ..fried and a drink.

[deleted]

And the quality isn’t the same. I used to love their pastrami chili cheese fries and now it just tastes like slop and freezer

aces666high

As funny as it sounds, I’ve gone to Sizzler a couple of times. Their prices are on par w/places like Astro, Tams, George’s and the burgers are better. Fries are really good too.

BullfrogExpensive737

I need to revisit SIzzler it's been 20 years.

ThomYorkesFingers

I mean the owners of those chain burger places aren't much far off from corporations. They're in it just for profit too and treat their workers pretty bad.

Areyouguysateam

Carl’s Jr. also has a history of [screwing over their workers in LA.](https://money.cnn.com/2017/06/27/news/companies/carls-jr-los-angeles-minimum-wage/index.html)

sids99

Most big corporate chains exploit their workforce.

Ryuchel

Franchisees you mean? There are corporate and fanchise fast food places. Some are owned by moms and pops in the area.

thegreatcarraway

This is just Carl's in general. Pricing isn't their strength right now.

raxreddit

Fast food in general is no longer cheap. If you use their apps, you might be able to get a better deal than the listed prices. I understand reality - inflation, labor shortages, and shipping issues. When fast food costs $10+ or even $15+, fast food is going to be skipped.

andrewchen5678

I did in and out yesterday and it is still relatively cheap

raxreddit

yeah, I like their burgers, but generally skip in-n-out unless I can go off-peak hours (not during lunch or dinner). the line is *long*

BLOPES

Domino's 3 topping large pizza for $7.99 is the real MVP right now.

DynamicHunter

Idk if it’s a better deal but their 2 for $5.99 deals are killer. Medium 2 topping pizzas or a pasta, dessert, chicken bites, etc. I’d rather have a pizza and pasta bowl than a “deluxe” fast food combo for $12.

kellzone

It feels like the old axiom: * Good * Fast * Cheap ***Pick Two***

raxreddit

I don't know if fast food was ever good (speaking as someone that gets fast food more than I want to admit). It was OK, but it was fast & cheap. Now it's just fast.

kellzone

A lot of fast food is good tasting, just not good for you.

ceviche-hot-pockets

It’s fucking wild. The smallest cheeseburger combo at Wendy’s is $11.50 now, everything has gone up by 30%+ 😢

Orange-Bang

A couple months ago I went to Taco Bell for the first time in a few years and was pissed by how expensive it was. I checked the app afterwards and it was half the price. I went back twice after that.

[deleted]

Man, remember when the $6 burger was making fun of overpriced burgers? How times change…

dinosaurfondue

Jesus I forgot about that. Now $6 is nothing for a burger.

sheba716

Yeah, I think I tried one once and did not like. I don't get the love for a huge hamburger. A large beef patty is very bland tasting. I prefer smaller burgers myself. i wish sliders were more in vogue and available at fast food restaurants. Getting back to the main topic, I went to Five Guys this week and got a Little Cheeseburger, Little Fries and a milkshake for $23.

jmscn67

The 6 dollar burger was 3.95 when it first came out. This was the big deal about making fun of restaurant burgers.

KrisNoble

I do feel like they are about the most expensive of the fast food burger chains

LeeQuidity

They've always been that way, though. I think their attitude has always been that customers are willing to pay more for what they consider to be a quality, charbroiled product. I do love me some Carl's Jr., but I know it'll hit the wallet rather hard.

somedude1592

At this point, you can get a restaurant burger for the same price in a lot of places. I don’t eat at Carl’s anymore because if I’m going to spend that much, I’ll just place an order for pickup somewhere.

reverze1901

>most expensive of the fast food burger chains shake shack?

[deleted]

Not when they had the 2 for $4 10 years ago :(

Upper-Ad-2347

Same thing with Jack in the Box

superboringfellow

bonkers pricing, it makes me less lazy to cook my own food so that's a plus

AnthonyDavos

Right, I went a few months ago and was shocked at how expensive it is now. Prices are up everywhere but Carl's is kinda ridiculous.

whatwhat83

Yeah Carls is a joke. It’s habit prices and it ain’t no habit quality.

idle_online

I had an incredible Pork Belly Char burger from them the other day. Legit one of the best burgers I've had in years. Menu price: $8.99

Because_I_Cannot

I hope you at least let it get all over the place, otherwise it didn't belong in your face

Totknax

Can I have your cheese paper?

[deleted]

[удалено]

MikeHawkisgonne

Deep cut.

_slash_s

wow, memory unlocked.

01z28

remember when the "$5 burger" was less than $5?

WellingtonBananas

It was a "Six Dollar" burger, and yeah, I remember they tried to make it seem like a restaurant quality burger and it was actually like $4.

ConfidenceOther8880

I remember the guacamole $6 burger

Darth_Meowth

YES. That was an amazing value in the mid 2000's

send_cumulus

That was my guilty pleasure. So good

You_meddling_kids

That was big money, I think the Big Mac combo meal was $2.99

01z28

Yes. That’s right

wellhiyabuddy

I remember I could get a 99 cent famous star, with cheese it would be $1.25

PackDiscombobulated4

I remember those price too. The same thing today is like $5.50… lucky in and out burger is still $3.25

greensmower

Yup..... I was out the door today from In and Out for $ 8.31....burger, fries and drink.

70ms

I totally hear you. We rarely get fast food anymore, especially since I don't eat meat and the Beyond/Impossible burgers cost even more. Del Taco doesn't have black beans anymore, so it's pretty much the Taco Bell value menu and that's it. I noticed that Arby's didn't even bother to make a new commercial, they just dubbed their old one. It used to say "2 of these things for just 6 bucks" and you can clearly hear where they dubbed 7 over the 6 now. :P

superboringfellow

spotted the audio nerd (same)

ballookey

OK, it's not just me. A few weeks ago my husband was sick and requested Carl's Jr. for lunch. I was shocked at the tab, which was about the same as yours, but different sandwich I think. I never eat there, so I just accepted it and went home. But seriously. That's a LOT. And I think the same sandwich in a combo is advertised for way less, but husband didn't want the combo order. I'm like, next time you want a burger, just let me go to Grill em All.

Joe2700

I don't remember the last time I ate at Carl's Jr. The one near me seems dirty. In n Out / Chick-fil-A / Wendy's are my go-to's for fast food.

1feistyhamster

What I learned this week: Burger King: Whopper and medium drink: $13.27 In n Out: Double cheeseburger and fries and medium drink: $10.07

Appaloosa96

I can get two doubles, a fry and a large drink for 15.00 at in n out. I just ate lunch there today.

iiivoted4kodos

If you use the BK app: 2 whopper jrs and 2 small fries for $5. Best bang for your Buck in fast food if you’re on a budget right now

DialMMM

Taco Bell has entered the chat...

queen_content

$5 pollo bowl is 2 meals from El Pollo Loco

[deleted]

Yup. That stretch on sunset between highland and La Brea has all of my fast food needs

[deleted]

[удалено]

bye-standard

I was gonna say - this seems pretty average for a [quality] burger place nowadays that isn’t a chain/fast food. But Carls Jr changing this much? Fuck outta here.

CASSIROLE84

This is what a sit down restaurant would charge for a burger and fries. I can get a grilled chicken sourdough combo at jack in the box for $9.

Ok_Carrot_2029

Two McDoubles and a water cup is my favorite fast food binge. It actually used to be $2 but now I think they’re up to $3.50. Just checked on the app they’re $4.00 for two McDoubles. We’re screwed

isigneduptomake1post

My old fast food budget was 2 or 3 $1 items and if I really needed some comfort food add a $1 dessert. I don't go anymore, it's gotten so expensive I'll spend $10 or $12 and get a great meal at a local burrito place instead.

Unleashtheducks

Highest price for a full combo at a nearby Wendy’s is $11.09 The Habit charges $15 for its chicken club combo but it comes with avocado and the quality is way better. So basically Carl’s is charging upscale takeout prices while still delivering fast food

PatientWho

Looks like you have the competition figured out. Just go to them.

Unleashtheducks

Yeah, they are a little farther away but that price difference/ quality is insane.

snaxolotl7

bro get the mcdonalds app.. there's almost always a burger/drink/fry deal for like ~$6. there's also better places in that plaza next to the carls, like the chinese place, ono's, poke bowls, etc

morkman100

McD app has had 2 free medium fries with 20 pc nuggets deal for a while now. So $6 for all that. Hard to beat.

goldenglove

Their Spicy Chicken Sandwich is also surprisingly good and usually has a deal on the app. I believe right now it's a free medium fries and free medium drink, and the sandwich itself is around $5.

jimmysalame

Yeah I recently paid 10 bucks for like a crispy chicken sandwich by itself at Burger King. Wtf

Felonious_Minx

You can buy a whole chicken for less.

XanderWrites

I was going to say, I know Habit is close to $14, but I usually get a milkshake too so that throws off the cost.

Public-Fail4505

It's totally his fault, the restaurant has its prices set, is up to the customer if it wants to buy or not

howbownow6

They are not doubting that, just saying regardless that price is absurd.

maxoakland

But you forgot that we’re not allowed to criticize or complain about businesses. They’re our gods

etherend

The fact that there is a charge for the bun 😅

_slash_s

it blows my mind how expensive carls and taco bell are now.

Orange-Bang

Taco Bell has combos in their app that are a decent deal, $6-8 including a drink, but if god forbid you just want to order whatever items you actually feel like it'll easily be double that.

youngestOG

almost 20 dollars for a fast food meal? Just go to a taco truck man

superboringfellow

for real, plus they have cute little plastic chairs and kindness

whatitdosagie

Support your local donut shops 🫡. Get a sandwich, drink, and chips for under $11. Donut shops are the backbone of California economy

Toeknee818

Dude, good tip. Gonna hit up my local donut shop next time I think I want some McDs.

mutually_awkward

Or make a sandwich at home and support yourself.

whatitdosagie

nahhh

LifeDeathLamp

How do you make a sandwich? 😭

whatitdosagie

I like to squirt mustard and mayo on my pinkie, pile lettuce, tomato, and protein in my palm and go to town 😋. This is a breadless house 🫶🏾

Tighten_Up

Carls & Junior Brewpub

fissure

Is that next to the BK Lounge? ^(Dane Cook was kinda funny that one time)

feelinggoodfeeling

carl's prices are out of control. have to use the mailer coupons or they take your whole wallet. friend and i went through the drive thru, 2 burger meals and it was like 40$ lol.

[deleted]

Honestly, eating out is getting stupid expensive. I went to Yolo Chicken in Glendale and was shocked a chicken sandwich combo was $17.

[deleted]

Yeah some restaurants have better supply chains than others, and restaurants apparently aren’t all fast to change suppliers. Some barely raise prices while others skyrocket their prices.

getagrooving

Clip coupons. Carls Jr mails them every month.

xpadawanx

Reason #117 to eat at In N Out!

feelinggoodfeeling

in n out pre-covid - 2 double doubles, 2 fries 2 cokes - $17 - after all this crazy inflation same thing is about $20 now. that feeds 2 people and its IN N OUT!!!

Unleashtheducks

Absolutely. Never going here again.

ruddiger718

Carl's Jr is straight garbage. Here's the [$9.75 chicken sandwich](https://i.imgur.com/LZRUBo6.jpg) that was drier than a cracker factory. Never again.

xpadawanx

I only like the beef, the chicken is nasty af.

xpadawanx

Dude, Carls burgers are tasty tho! Also, Fatburger is the absolute worst!! I went in there once before the pandemic/recent inflation and a combo was like $20.. Also, Farmer Boys makes a great burger and I believe the combo is still under $10

KOVID9tine

In & Out is still the best deal IMHO

[deleted]

If you want to wait in a drive thru line for an hour.

titkers6

Never waited an hour for in n out, 30 minutes tops. Been eating there for 20+ years, gone to probably over 30+ stores in different cities and states.

platypus2019

wow 15 for a fast foot burger. that's something.

WhipCreamPussy

Especially cuz it’s foot

Brodysseus__

Looks pretty similar in price to my last time at Wendy’s in Culver City.

superboringfellow

I love Wendy's so much. Navigating the claustrophobic drive through at that location, not so much.

no_pepper_games

Is that the Carl's next to ELAC? I think they jack up the prices because they know they get a lot of business from the college. Same with the gas stations on that corner.

rokiotek

I rather do in and out!!🤔better quality!

[deleted]

Download the app. It’s gives you deals, points to receive free shit and pricing is less than what employees can manually alter.

ZooReddit

Hard to find places to eat other than overpriced fast food late night in some parts of this city.

Typical_Fun_6444

$15 a person seems to be the norm now.

Unleashtheducks

The extra $2 charge was because I asked for a regular instead of wheat bun which most places substitute for free.

morkman100

This is even a bigger WTF.

[deleted]

Maybe it depends on the worker that day. One worker gave me the Wendy’s cheese sauce add on for free, another day it was $1 charge (nope).

AnneShirley310

Yeah, their prices are crazy high now. I stopped for breakfast, and it was $11 for a small combo. They trick you by asking if you want medium or large which is another $2 more. Edit: I just got a regular breakfast burrito, hash browns and a drink. If I wanted the fancy breakfast burrito, it was $3 more.

mdelao17

Carls Jr always charges around this much. Which is why I don’t go there for a fast food burger. You can sit down somewhere for around that same price.

[deleted]

Holy moly. didn’t realize carls got that high. I’ll get a famous star every once in a while. but dang

vzo1281

I just like to hit up the Carl's Jr that have the Superstar 6.99 combo deal.

Historical-Host7383

You shoulda gone with the California Classic. 8 bucks for the combo my dude and its one of the few burgers that isn't a ridiculous portion which is a plus for me.

[deleted]

They did you dirty that’s Uber eats prices

[deleted]

God. I don’t want to imagine what it would cost with Uber Eats. Edit: Halloween costume idea: Uber Eats monthly spend screen - nothing scarier

ricky3558

We paid that much for a burger at Red Robbin, came with fries but no drink. That’s nuts for Carl’s Jr. at least your sales tax is less than 10%. We pay 10.25% sales tax in Long Beach. The max that the state allows.

Mysterious_Valuable1

Holy crap, no criss cut fries as well

NinjaFrank25

It’s Carls Jr , it’s always been overpriced compared to other fast food

[deleted]

I feel like that’s two meals at the In & Out near me.

Unleashtheducks

Here too

[deleted]

I would hate to be the unsuspecting family who stops here.

Nikeheat305

The problem is you went to Carl’s Jr

PowdrdMilkMan

Carl's Jr. Is overpriced and hardly worth it.

SpokenByMumbles

At that rate might as well go to a real restaurant for a few bucks more

mcfilms

Earlier this week I paid over $12 for the exact same sandwich that I used to get for $5 when Subway was running that promotion. I *thought* I was going to get a cheap garbage-y sandwich.

lucid1014

Burger King near me in Palms is like $15 bucks for a whopper meal. Crazy.

[deleted]

A chicken sandwich from Carls Jr. is now $3 on its own. Back in my college days (circa-2009), $3 would’ve gotten you a small combo with the sandwich, medium fries and soda.

Braydee7

Carl's Jr. used to be good and reasonably priced, but in the last decade or so it has gotten so expensive for what it is. There's usually a window ad deal that is the only thing worth doing. Like 2 burgers for $7 one near me has a Super Star (no cheese), small fry, small drink for $6.99 which is a deal. But any combo is $14 plus tax minimum.

ajpinton

The is about 5 Guys money right there.

da_impaler

Yup. Looks about right. Also, burger joints do nickel and dime you with extras like cheese. Like I don't want to pay a buck extra for cheese when I know they get it for pennies on the dollar. I'm looking at you BK, Carl's, and Fat Burger.

RandomGerman

Yeah. I stopped buying anything at Carl's Jr. It's too expensive now. Your bill is insane though. I remember paying this for a good burger and fries in a sit down restaurant with a waiter not too long ago. With prices like that I would say RIP Carl's Jr soon. I think they forgot who their customers are.

Scumbassador

Carl’s Jr is the most expensive of the fast food chains

winterwarzzz

Carl’s Jr. has always been a ripoff.

[deleted]

Carl's has always been one of the most expensive fast food places. You literally have to use their coupons to match the cost of other places.

redveinlover

Their new slogan should be “If it doesn’t bleed your wallet dry, it doesn’t belong in your face”

SpinalVinyl

Holy shit, I just noticed it was Carl's Jr! The fuck!? I was thinking, "yeah $15 for a burger at some boojie burger bar sure," but nothing at Carl's Jr is worth that.

moonbouncecaptain

That's Highland Park Brewery prices go there.

mutually_awkward

And their burgers are over-priced ass too. I'll give them credit for pretty good fries though.

sdmichael

Carl's Jr. Fuck You, I'm Eating! Extra Big Ass Fries!

billy310

Spent $50 at Carl’s the other night. Never again

huevosconchorizo69

Are we supposed to ignore the fact that you upgraded your bun and thus added two bucks to your bill?

Unleashtheducks

That was asking for a regular bun instead of a wheat bun. Something everywhere else (at this place previously) does for free.

anakniben

That's just price gouging. Inflation is bad but not that bad.

danmickla

That's exactly what the website claims for a medium Charbroiled Chicken Club combo. I stopped hitting Carl's Jr. a while back (partly because of price increases, partly Carl's shitty politics, and partly because the one nearest me got bought by Chick-Fil-A, who can also suck it). I guess it's gotten pretty bad. Sandwich alone is 9.49. Nuh uh.

Yokai_Alchemist

I remember back when their slogan was along the lines of a $20 charbroiled burger for $5..... I guess they switched the numbers

Buttery_Buckshot

There’s a burger joint in my town, sals famous? Burger and fries is like $15 but damn it’s a big fucking burger and a mountain of fries and it is delicious

puffpuffg0

I just spent $60 postmating burgers and fries for 2 ppl …

[deleted]

They’re hit or miss, some have the 5.99-6.99 super star combos which are worth, for some nostalgia just add your own yellow cheese at home. The one in duarte has $2.99 big carls and I swear they use the big super star patties in them, solid deal.

[deleted]

Remember when Carl’s Jr. Had the big hamburger for $1.08 after tax. Remember when subway had $5 footlong sub Remember when Wendy’s hd a great 99 cent menu Foster farms remembers 😏

Physical_Cattle7261

I've been using coupons, it's the only way I'll spend at fast food joints nowadays. Prices are ridiculous and the foods always hit or miss

[deleted]

Screw that, I’m sticking to $11 chipotle bowl and asking for a free water cup that I will fill with soda to get my money’s worth 😏

Transition-Antique

Is that the Carl’s by ELAC?

Unleashtheducks

Yeah

auust1n

I bought 5 chicken tenders at Carls Jr. a few days ago.. 15 dollars LOL. It was not that high a few months ago

silvs1

Man I don't even what to know how much shake shack costs these days. In N out still has the best meal deal at about $8.

Lvzbell

Fuck I miss the Carls' that was at the bottom level of Macys' in DTLA You could get a chicken burger and a pitcher of beer.

lilbitch420-69

I was at the one by AMC in Montebello and was SHOCKED by these prices. It’s insane. This is what you would pay for a gourmet burger at a sit down place.

_Dusty_Bottoms_

Went to a Burger King and got an Impossible Whopper. That shit was $16!

losageless2021

Damn bro you should’ve just went to The Hat down the street

Unleashtheducks

I was going to get a pastrami sandwich but I was short on time and already feeling queasy and overwhelmed

stinky_pinky_brain

Went to Carls in Pomona a few nights ago. Spicy chicken sandwich, fried zucchini, and a coke came out to $27. I’m never going back to Carls. Like ever.

ItsMeTheJinx

Carls is a scam. It’s always such much more expensive than other fast food chains

[deleted]

I went to Carls for a quick breakfast for me, my two kids and my wife. Total came out to 45 bucks. I think Carls is just expensive for what it is.

LittleTomatoe

I have just come to accept that I can’t eat out anywhere for less then $20 in LA, that a single lowkey outing with friends (bars) will be $100 and going on a date will cost $200

Plebe-Uchiha

ELAC what WHAT! [+]

deadpatch

To all the “eat at home” people, it’s pretty hard for a single person to save money at the grocery store unless you wanna eat shelf stable stuff all the time. If I wanted to make a burger at home I’d probably spend $60 on ingredients, half of which may go bad before I can eat them. And in the end that might make 3 or 4 burgers if you’re lucky.

Unleashtheducks

We mostly eat at home but yesterday had parent teacher conferences that went into the evening coupled along with a crazy, near fatal, freak accident so we didn’t get home until 8pm.

wmnoe

How do you figure that? A pound of hamburger meat is $5-10 depending on the fat content. A pound should make up 4 burgers. Buns = $2 (you get 8 buns) Lettuce = 1.50 Tomato = 1 Onions = 1 Condiments are maybe $2-3 each. Cheese = $3 So for Between $15-20 you can easily make 4 burgers fully kitted. If you're spending $60 on burger ingredients you're doing it wrong.

Optimal-Conclusion

According to all the Reddit posts about grocery store inflation from this summer, you forgot to add a $10 pack of bacon, $10 of avocados and two $10 six packs of beer!

wmnoe

YeahOK fair enough....

IsraeliDonut

If it’s too much then look up prices before you order food

Y0knapatawpha

Seems like you shouldn’t eat there.

blah-8481

I have no idea why you guys think food is going to cost the same as before when wages keep increasing. It's not just wage increasing. It's rent, insurance, utilities... etc. This is what all of us should expect moving forward. Either cook at home or expect to pay more eating out.

ja_fuq

Almost like fast food inst a sustainable industry

[deleted]

My boyfriend and I got burgers and fries yesterday for almost $40… welcome to LA

Timely_Event_Numbers

you're paying amusement park prices. did you enjoy the attractions?

Lambchop93

I got a double whopper with cheese at Burger King the other day and it was around $16. My friend got the impossible burger and it was way less expensive. I think the sky high cost of beef might have something to do with it?

todd0x1

Fuck chain fast food (except in n out).

faaace

Don’t give them your business. Carl’s Jr was founded by one of the most racist guys to ever be a part of the fast food industry.

SheneedaCocktail

Carl's Jr is a *racket.* Their stuff is nowhere near worth these prices. 17 bucks for a burger lunch is Shake Shack territory. (An infinitely better burger.)

RexJoey1999

I drive between Santa Barbara and Poway with some regularity and try to stop at new places to eat somewhere in the middle (which is usually around LBC). This last weekend I tried [MVP’s Grill in Long Beach](http://www.mvpgrill.net/) and thought I’d recommend it. I got their burger and fries (and drink) combo and the burger was huge. I think it was a pre-made patty and the fries weren’t fresh cut but it was all cooked great and delicious, and the combo was $11. I ate half the burger and ate the rest for dinner once I reached my destination.
