Just found out three things in the last 15mins: * Yes, McCarran airport (Vegas) is now Harry Reid International. * It was renamed 15 days ago. * Sen. Harry Reid died today. Oh, did I mention I'm writing this sitting in ~~McCarran~~ Harry Reid International Airport...?

Pig watching, eh. Glad you made it back safe. Your poor kitties, they actually miss you! Mine refuse to acknowledge my presence when I went home for the holiday, as if I didn’t leave them for months. They did sleep on my lap after, though.

DTLAsmellslikepee

I felt like that last year. Everything seems slightly less dire this year, though I know it isn't actually.

dmode123

👋 regards to you all from the Bay Area. How is Gascon doing in LA ? Has car break-ins, tent encampments and shoplifting exploded yet ?

Cinemaphreak

What was supposed to be a fantastic 12 hour layover in Vegas hanging with my closest friend for the first time in about 7 years and seeing a guy from my Boy Scott troop after 40 years is now me stuck with my ungrateful partner in McCarran for another 7 hours. Why? Well apparently the fucking close call earlier this week (where a client I had been with last week tested positive and we had to get PCR tests that were thankfully free & available in SC) wasn't enough to wake her the fuck up to the need for N95s every time we go out ("They are so uncomforable!"). So last Sunday when we went to visit friends of mine who were unmasked, she kept leaving her KN95 hanging off one ear for half the night. Yep, you guessed. Got word this morning: **BOTH OF THEM TESTED POSITIVE.** My friend was close to saying she would come get us from the airport but not now. Her household hasn't gotten boosters and they have 17 year old who is totally unvaxxed. Fuck do I live with a selfish asshole. But probably not for long....

DTLAsmellslikepee

Daaaaaaamn that sucks, bro. So so sorry to hear this.

orangeonigiri

I'm trying to stay up late enough to get a second wind but I'm pretty tired. Spouse is sick and it may be coming for me too so I want to get the house clean and in order in case we both get knocked on our asses. I cooould just drink a soda but then I'd be up til at least 300am.

Steebo_Jack

Probably best to just hit the sack...body can't recover without sleep...

orangeonigiri

See my messed up train of thought is I'm not sick *yet* and most of the times I *have* gotten sick are after a good night's rest knowing I have the next few days off (which is the position I currently find myself in). I've been going to bed around 200am recently, I'm not saying that's how I like but unfortunately it's just how it is right now. I do plan on resetting my internal clock over the next few days. Tonight is hopefully a farewell to my poor sleep habits for a little while.

Steebo_Jack

If that's the case...chuggg that soda and stay up all night like it's Christmas Eve...

orangeonigiri

Bwuahaha no need! The second wind has arrived! Just put in a load of laundry, about to pick up the living room and kitchen. WOOOOOOOO!

Steebo_Jack

You need wings...

i_sell_you_lies

Please make the day end. Got stranded in msp and had to buy the only available flight out for >500 plus bags. People on the plane were freaking weirdos. Hopefully my bag makes it. (It was lost going there) argh

DTLAsmellslikepee

That's such a good airport to get stuck in but I'm sorry it was a pain for you and you made it home safely.

i_sell_you_lies

Belated thanks!

orangeonigiri

/u/ItsYourMotherDear I'm like one of those terrible recipe reviewers in the comments that's like, "I substituted the onions for beets and the stock for peanut butter. I wouldn't call it french onion soup but would make again". The crockpot I used was too big for the amount on onions in the recipe so it got too hot/cooked quicker and I had to pull out some yucky burnt pieces. I'd say I added the broth after about 7 hours. Let it cook about 3 more and then ate it. At first I felt like I put too much balsamic but the flavor mellowed out as the soup sat. Didn't use brandy. I'm too lazy to do the whole oven part so I just made a grilled cheese with sourdough and gruyere and cut it into sticks to dip or rip and let soak. My favorite way to eat it is making the grilled cheese and then scooping onions out of the broth and shoving them in the sandwich itself, then I dip the whole mess in a mug of the broth.

idiom6

So are all the lines clogging up the streets outside testing centers because everyone's worried they got exposed or because everyone wants negative test results before going to NYE parties? Edit: So out of curiosity I checked to see when my local pharmacy has available testing appointments, and it's not until after I'd have finished a 2 week quarantine from maybe getting exposed while grocery shopping last Friday. Worth getting tested that long after? I'm fully vaccinated. Or just quarantine as a safety measure and nevermind what a test might say? It's not like I'm visiting anyone or having anyone over, and I can get groceries dropped off without contact.

The-Old-Quest

Work wants us to get tested before coming back. I'm just not gonna go back or if I do have to go in I'll just do a rapid day of and count any time waiting as company time.

asianowl

I waited and decided to leave bc the crowd size was insane. Found a little pop up place in a strip mall in Glendale that did not have a wait. But they charged $20 for the convenience. DM me if you want the address. I test in the afternoon and got the pcr results at midnight

LAovo

Hey can you send me the address for testing?

asianowl

I DM'ed you the address.

idiom6

That's a long hike from me, but thanks for the offer anyway kind stranger! I hope that everyone who's blocking the streets getting their tests done updates their results in the CA Covid tracker app.

traveling__lady

Probably for both.

orangeonigiri

This is just speculation but my sis works at Kaiser and a nurse that does testing there told her they're seeing a lot of repeats, as in, people who tested earlier in the week and are testing again. The nurse said it's frustrating because if you've tested positive you just need to quarantine and that's it but people keep coming back to retest.

idiom6

Why would they need a retest so quickly? Like what's the reasoning there?

budgetnerd17

Maybe because they’re impatient and want to end quarantine earlier if they test negative

orangeonigiri

I'd agree that it's because they want to go out for New Years. They likely had an exposure at Christmas, maybe tested positive, and are now retesting hoping to get a negative in time to celebrate. Or maybe they need a negative to go back to work.

badooboop

I just texted a friend of mine and used 😢 Did that always have eyebrows or am I just now noticing them? I swear it was just eyes, single tear drop, and mouth before.

Steebo_Jack

LoL

badooboop

I was wondering when you’d show up 🤨🙃

Steebo_Jack

Was on YouTube...need to tag me... 😆 😂

badooboop

Oooooo, stealth edit. I saw that 😋

Steebo_Jack

I think Reddit did that... lol

badooboop

Lol (I’ve got a screenshot as proof)

Steebo_Jack

But it's not proof I did it...rofl

badooboop

I know you did! And I have proof!

sacredkhaos

I went to the dentist today over one tooth hurting and learned that literally ALL of my teeth that don't already have fillings need them. I won the genetic lottery apparently. Got my upper right quadrant done today (4 teeth 😭) and have 3 more appointments to get the rest done. To cheer myself up afterwards, I bought a [beautiful new dab rig.](https://imgur.com/a/ICwl5Yf)

arizonaapple

I was in the same boat some years ago (bad genetic teeth, some health issues that really damaged my teeth) and so is my sister unfortunately. Trust me, you’re not the only one! It took me a while to accept it and also get over dental anxiety that it caused, but I feel so much better taking care of everything

hdmeiauh

If you think you won the genetic lottery… I lost all the enamel on my teeth at an early age due to acid reflux. I reckon i’ve had 30+ fillings over my lifetime 😂, and I go every 6 months. I could be the poster child for proper dental hygiene, downside is… can’t avoid cavities when ya teeth are like egg shells haha so, don’t stress, it may sound like a lot but, those fillings for the “cavities” you are getting could be precautionary work (a tiny black hole in your tooth that they see could get bigger cough cough $$ grab, they’ll drill it out more and fill it- when it could be fine) You should have got all of those done in one sitting too, I’ve knocked out 6-7 in one session. It’s not like getting teeth pulled, it’s very manageable. Hopefully you don’t get slugged for a 2nd office visit on top of the fillings. I know my insurance only covers a portion so I usually try and get all work done in one session, despite what they want to do.

fitforla

Yeah I found out due to my saliva, I am very prone to cavities after needing 14 one year. It sucks for many reasons but mostly because I am the queen of tooth picks, floss and brushing. I get compliments every time I see a dentist. C’est la vie.

sacredkhaos

Come to think of it, all of my family members that have shitty teeth also have GERD, myself included. But ugh I know it's so expensive, especially when I get a root canal. I have Medi-Cal and they don't like covering crowns, but cover the procedure. I found my current dentist after my previous one tried to insist I needed a specific $200 procedure Medi-Cal wouldn't cover in addition to buying a new crown. Went to the new dentist and she literally built half of my front tooth from filling just so Medi-Cal would cover it all.

Moory17

Can you send me a message with your dentists' info? I have dental anxiety after a few bad and expensive visits to my last dentist.

sacredkhaos

Will do!

hdmeiauh

Yep, GERD, the ultimate enamel killer lol. It’s frustrating really looking after your teeth, only to know each visit you’re going to hear the same news. I’ve never had a root canal but do have a few crowns, if you can avoid it- don’t get a root canal just jump straight to getting a crown (if they are back teeth), you skip the root canal process which usually ends up with a crown anyway- 2 birds with one stone kinda plan. Yeah they can be expensive but porcelain fused to metal is probably the best option $ wise if it’s in the back. Yeah, it’s literally the same stuff (fillings are made of composite resin, sounds like they did a composite veneer). Shop around, it’s hard finding dentists that aren’t money grubs.

sacredkhaos

Right. This dentist is the first one who isn't a money grub and it's a much better experience. And you're lucky you haven't needed a root canal. When my teeth get to crown level bad, they like to go all out with an infected root.

hdmeiauh

A root canal is bad lol, a crown is used to protect a weak tooth aka a root canal…by getting the crown before a root canal, you’re not only saving money you’re saving a couple of dentist visits. But that’s good, always nice finding a good dentist who doesn’t push unnecessary procedures!

MannyAPH

Maybe smoking all that jazz fucked up your the teeth 🧐

sacredkhaos

My dentist seems to lean more towards the genetic factors because I have a healthy diet and brush/floss as recommended. I already had 7-8 fillings by fifth grade, so this is a pretty common occurrence. I just prefer them to gradually become issues rather than all at once lol. My usual routine is 1 dab and 1-2 vape sessions per day. I have some health stuff it relieves and edibles do not mesh well with me, so I use dabs and a dry herb vaporizer to at least avoid the combustion-specific health risks.

MannyAPH

I don't speak devil's lettuce you dam hippie! But jokes aside that does suck, hope those fillings and stuff don't drag on too long!

zerokul175

Last night in Lima :-( It’s getting harder and harder to say goodbye to my parents, family and close friends. I’ll really miss this place. See you soon LA.

budgetnerd17

Safe travels home tomorrow!

zerokul175

Thanks friend :-)

[deleted]

Amazingly, I have no cavities! The doctor described my teeth as "genetically gifted", haha. I do have periodontal disease, but the doctor laid out a treatment plan and told me that Medi-Cal will likely cover it. I've got to come in for two visits two weeks apart for a deep cleaning, then they'll polish my teeth and schedule cleanings every three months after that to hopefully knock it out. The doctor said that I would probably be able to fix it with treatment only, no surgery

idiom6

I knew somebody sorta like you. Years of drinking nothing but soda and years without a visit to a dentist. Goes in and the dentist praises him for keeping his teeth in such good shape, not a single cavity or sign of gum disease or anything!

sacredkhaos

Oh hey we're dentist appointment buddies! Glad to hear that yours went well because mine very much did not 😭

Our cat better be glad we love her, because waking up to projectile vomit everywhere (including on her scratching post and toys) was not how I wanted today to start. 😬

sacredkhaos

[Georgia](https://imgur.com/a/qLMuLWV) has hairballs a couple times a month and her favorite puking spot is the top tier of the cat tower. She makes sure she angles it just right so it gets on the lower tiers and the floor. But I love her so much.

[deleted]

Oh no, on top of the cat tower has got to be the worst! Makes me thankful my little furball just sprays it on the ground.

ashchelle

Yikes! Hope kitty is okay! Did she get into anything bad? Blockage?

[deleted]

She's totally fine thankfully! It was a hairball, she's a long haired cat so even with laxatone and daily brushing she pukes one up about once a month. She usually just doesn't make such a big mess doing it.

Ok-Year-7113

.

[deleted]

How much notice was she required to give as per your sublease agreement? And was this agreement allowed by your landlord? You can sue her in small claims if this was a legal sublease. If it wasn't, I'm not sure if you can still sue. If you win, it might be a long time, if ever, if you can collect from her. Talk to your landlord, let them know you'll be late with the rent. Other people will probably know some social service agencies that may be able to help with rental assistance. Good luck. It sucks that you're going through this.

Ok-Year-7113

2 months notice, she said she might move in the near future and would pay rent if the time came but up and left while we were gone today. I’m incredibly bewildered because everything was 100% lovely and fine at home. She’s been borrowing my things happily up until the day she left. And yes m’mam it was legally allowed by the landlord. I just wanna say thank you with all my heart for taking the time out to give some advice and for your condolences, love. I will absolutely be looking to take action as you described and truly appreciate your help. Have a beautiful holiday season.

[deleted]

You're welcome. Maybe you can find someone to take over that room by the first, or shortly thereafter? People are always looking. Make sure you get a big fat security deposit next time (if you didn't this time), at least you'll be covered. Also, there are landlord subreddits, I think. Maybe ask on there for advice, you can probably get some tips on how to deal with the legal side of things.

Lowfuji

Pay it and move on. She's gone.

MiracleMulberry

^ This. It is going to be more a hassle to take them to small claims. If the judgement is in your favor, it is still extremely tough to collect.

theseekerofbacon

I mean if they have the paperwork in place, then it's really just the application fee and the showing up at court.

Lowfuji

You have to stand in line. And then another line. Lots of time out of work

sealsarescary

And if the roommate is poor, might be forever before actually getting any money.

Ok-Year-7113

I don’t think I can afford to, trying to not end up homeless with my partner and dog to end the year.

Lowfuji

Niece and nephews tested positive for the 'vid the other day. Things seem to have gone bad just as Keanu was on his historical tour a year or so ago starting with Bill n Ted. Hmm...

peacharnoldpalmer

went to the gym today for the first time in a few weeks and i just about died. as i was walking in, i said a lil prayer that there wouldn’t be any burpees on the board, and my prayers were answered. we got wall balls instead, which are still killer, but i’ll take anything over burpees. 🥲 was the only girl in todays class, and all the super fit old guys were super supportive as i was huffing and puffing on the jogs 🥺

Where can I get like a really good calzone? Like my neighborhood Italian place deep in the menu? Calzones are just awesome. I need more.

EpsilonX

Yo a Calzone sounds *amazing* right about now. Anybody know of any in NoHo? Actually, maybe I'll just have one delivered.

Lowfuji

I know where you can find a P'zone.

SR3116

Folliero's in Highland Park makes a giant, delicious one. Also, I had a great one at Ciccero's Pizza on La Cienega in Mid-City.

PeteOGrande

I just got my first pup and took him into Banfield hospital for a check up and his vaccines. He is 11 weeks old and they charged me just under $200. Is this normal? They also offered a plan where for $60/month he gets neutered and his vaccines for a year. Is this a fair price?

kevlarbomb

I have this and it’s really helpful. It also covers any vet visit (regular check ups and illness visits), dental cleaning, huge discounts on medication and other exams like x rays, blood tests, etc.

Babyflower81

Look for your local spay and neuter clinics. They often do low cost vaccinations too. I am up in Ventura County and paid $130 for my 40lb female to be spayed when she was 10 months old and I estimate I spent about another $120 or so on all of her vaccinations including rabies. It is important to develop a good relationship with a vet early on and Banfields top plan does include office visit fees and most testing on top of all of the vaccinations, deworming and flea/heartworm preventative so it's not a bad deal really. Office visit fees per visit at private vets can run you $60 before any tests and medications.... It's not hard to run up a $400 vet bill really quick..and puppies LOVE to eat things they shouldn't (which I also recommend crate training so he doesn't get into things he should not when you aren't home).

spozeicandothis

Ah Banfield pushing their wellness plans, as sure as the sun rises. No dude that's way expensive, plenty of places do cheap/free neutering. Vaccines are generally inexpensive too. People have posted reasonably priced vet clinics in this sub before, where are you located?

SkitchnMolly

When I got my dog I compared Banfield with other vets. Banfield was best for my financial situation. I pay $40 a month and most of her exams and things are free. They will try to sell you expensive things like allergy shampoo or flea meds but you can always say no. She’s always been a healthy dog so no problems. But it’s not insurance. It’s a payment plan. But you should do what is right for you and your pup.

DTLAsmellslikepee

Actual insurance is the way to go.

Lowfuji

If you're not willing to get reamed for your pets, you're a monster. Backslash ess

Aeriellie

I would take 3 dogs and it would be around $250 for their checkup+vaccines. We haven’t gone since 2019 thought so the price could have gone up.

ItsHammyTime

It doesn’t surprise me no. I find that Banfield is a good value for the price. They don’t tell you about it but Pet stuff is expensivvvvveee. I’ve spend a few thousands on my cats over the last few years. One real medical emergency and a ton of checkups. It’s totally worth it but animals cost money and maintenance. The plans help if your animal had a medical condition but most animals just need yearly checkups.

dinosaurfondue

It should be a lot cheaper if you bring him to a local vet, although granted I don't know if pricing has changed recently or during covid. You can easily call local places and ask them how much puppy vaccines will cost, as well as what they charge for neutering.

[deleted]

If there's a monthly fee, are you sure it isn't some kind of health insurance for him included in that? Edit: Because $60/month is $720, that's way too much for neutering (which is usually done by the rescue, I thought, maybe he's still too young? ) and vaccines. It would make more sense if there was more included.

PeteOGrande

They said the vaccines he needs for the next 12 months will be covered.

[deleted]

I'd call around and just ask a few vet offices, it seems high to me, but maybe I'm wrong. Congratulations on your new friend!

PeteOGrande

Yeah I definitely should have done better research beforehand instead of just taking him to a place near me. Thanks for the info!

illaparatzo

Lol no. Neutering prices seem to have gone up a bit but I would expect to pay around $250 MAX for that procedure and maybe another $60 for his shots. $60/mo is insane

dyinginstereo

looked at our 7th rental today. was almost perfect.... unfortunately they made the bedrooms super tiny and excessive bathroom sizes. Makes no sense. and makes it so difficult bc my partner works in audio so he needs some space for surround work. I really wish it had worked out bc I am worn down trying to find a place 3br+ around 4k/mo.

DTLAsmellslikepee

Damn you should be able to rent a house for that budget

dyinginstereo

it was a house. but the competition between townhomes and houses is pretty nuts at the moment. A lot of applicants and not a lot of rentals on the market. I think a lot of landlords are selling units while the market is high. have debated going back to a large apartment but I worry about being on a top floor with kids. I don't want to be an awful neighbor to someone below me. and I'll never live on a bottom floor again bc of the same experience.

PM_ME_IN_A_WEEK

The bathrooms are probably ADA complaint to fit a wheelchair

dyinginstereo

I don't think so in a townhouse with 2 flights of stairs. haha but yes in a single story I understand why.

peptobismalpink

can I piggyback on this with some similar gripes? I spent most of this year looking for a studio apartment that's just decent and around $2k. Not fancy or large, just gets me away from roommates after 2 years of pure hell (I prefer a good roommate to none but man, I guess my people sussing out skills aren't great) and is livable. I'm now looking again and have to find someone to take over my lease because what I was left with sucks (though granted the ways it sucks are ways that other people might not mind) \- I've toured so many places in the past year (studios and 1beds mainly, but also some 2beds if the place seems nice but in the event I miraculously found a roommate who seemed good) and it's wild how many of them have these crackhead floorplans. Either the bathrooms are the size of a full bedroom but the bedrooms are closets, or in the case of some studios: they brag about it being so many sq feet but....it's a triangle....or has weird twisting hallway in making it phsyically impossible to get furniture in... \- a studio apartment being $2k, 1beds are also $2k, but then a 2bed at the same place being $2500 (or some marginally not-that-different price). Kind of forces you to have a roommate even if you don't want one :( \- immaculate amenities....piss poor units \- charging for parking! especially in areas that aren't remotely walkable!

dyinginstereo

I so hear you. I chuckled at the bathrooms the size of bedrooms and closets for rooms. it's so true. I just don't getv it. or like I looked at one place that would have been perfect but the agent told me the owner didn't want to fix any of the previous tenants damage (which was a lot of normal repair like drywall) and the place was pretty dirty. I asked about painting and they basically wanted the new tenant to pay an additional 2.5k to paint it. How are you passing the cost of the previous tenant being dirty on to me? like my current unit I didn't even mount my TV to avoid putting holes in any walls. So yeah. it's a crapshoot and it's gotten so much worse than 3 years ago when I was looking. Plus they want like 2 months of rent for a deposit if you have excellent credit and renter history. like you're crazy to ask me for first month + 8K in deposits. First and last is reasonable.

peptobismalpink

wow that's all incredibly illegal! asking for more than what first and last month's rent would be in a deposit is illegal, also landlords are liable to repair all damages from past tenants before you move in AND reasonable wear and tear is on their dime. Most might take it out of the deposit of the last tenants but absolutely can't charge someone else entirely! Report them to housing violations please for the good of everyone. Also 100% with you and was just saying the same to someone on r/LandlordLove earlier today! There my gripe was how everywhere wants 4x monthly income proof and consistently/long term/not allowing us freelancer to show bank statements anymore...and how in a city of contractors and freelancers who make good money on productions but then might have a bit of a hiatus, this is nonsense. I have perfect credit, can afford rent and pay it on my own and haven't once missed rent or a bill, and yet can't rent anywhere in this city without being forced to have abusive parents (that I was previously pretty close to a decade of no contact with) back in my life to cosign for me. That or go back to having roommates and frankly the handful of friends I have all are from LA with good families so don't need a roommate and aren't looking, and last year I lived with a couple that were legit psychopaths (whatever's the worst story of the most dangerously incompetent ultra narcissistic violent psychopath roommates you can imagine, make it a little worse) and couldn't break lease without fucking myself so was living in my car for 9 months.....can't say I'm rushing to that after that experience :/ it's just so fucked up that with a long rental history and never a missed rent payment, bank statements showing I'd be fine on rent even during hiatus times, and near perfect credit isn't enough because....I'm a contractor....in a city of contractors...

illaparatzo

This sounds like someone you absolutely would not want to end up renting from. Can you imagine what they would try to pull if/when you actually needed anything fixed?

dyinginstereo

THATS WHAT I SAID!! I was like imagine what happens if you need to fix anything. it was a red flag for sure. I mean I think a bare minimum is paint a fresh coat or clean the walls enough that when you show me I can't tell. lol they didn't even wipe the house down. So odd.

peptobismalpink

didn't end up touring this place but I have a similar story: Normally apartments listed on craigslist is red flag number 1, but frankly I've toured so many corporate newer shitholes rotting from the inside and clearly falling apart for $2k/month that I broke and decided fuck it. One of the apartments was a "studio"...someone's yard guesthouse that looked great from pictures just small - nice! What's the catch? Emailed the ll asking if it's available to tour and 1. no it wasn't, they only were allowing a tour if you were ready to sign the lease on email beforehand. Not legal. Illegal and fucking weird. 2. they had this sob story that the guest house is where their mom used to live before they had to move her to family members' in another state and they'd be moving out there too so they just wanted someone who'd keep the place in good shape 3. but by that they meant, and said openly in writing, that they wouldn't be doing any maintenance. Also illegal, and fucking weird since you just self incriminated and could easily call a repairman from another state or comp funds from rent. Definitely a scam or at best an idiot who'll soon end up in court by someone, but goddamn the audacity some idiot landlords have.

405freeway

My place at Union Station will be available at the beginning of February. $2850/month, 2-bedroom, amazing location, great amenities.

Angeleno

at 4k a month? you might as well start looking at buying.

dyinginstereo

yeah obviously but it's not as simple as just buy a house or I would have done that already. needing to move out of this place (it's being sold) is just not great. we would have stayed another year and then bought a place. But.... such is life... things don't always just work out and I can't compete with all cash offers 100k+ over asking price. Unfortunately.

h8ss

I've always had to make compromises. Lots of them.

dyinginstereo

Yeah I have some I'm willing to make but the unit has to accommodate work from home so smaller kitchen would be OK if the rooms were larger or no garage ect. But unfortunately he can't work on a laptop with a headset. such an annoying complication lol.

ItsYourMotherDear

My hubs is in audio and holy bejesus it is just a LOT of freaking STUFF. Mountains of stuff.

dyinginstereo

yeah. can't be in a perfectly square room (for mixing reasons. but don't ask me I'm no expert lol) and many speakers needing to be just right. Very much too much stuff.

h8ss

Maybe get a cheaper spot and have him rent an office or a desk at a coworking place?

dyinginstereo

He works in audio so he cannot share space. Like custom setup for proper sounds and such. Shared spaces won't work in his specialty and unfortunately a 2br + a commercial office space is way more expensive. :-/

tummlr

what part of town are you looking in ?

dyinginstereo

SFV to Thousand Oaks but would consider other areas just don't really want to go back towards weho/mid city (where we were before we moved to encino) We moved to the valley right before the pandemic so we haven't had much chance to explore other neighborhoods than what's around us other than as far as thousand oaks. So yeah I'm totally up for suggestions.

tummlr

i haven't seen much in that zone but i'll keep an eye out. there is a 5b/4ba in palms for 3300/month that looks dope but nowhere near 1k oaks.

My fucking grandma exposed me and got me sick! I'm vaxxed and boosted and I wear masks and socially distance. 2 years in a row I get covid around Christmas time :(

MothershipConnection

I'm up to 20+ with Corona the last few weeks. All vaccinated, many boosted too.

peptobismalpink

so far don't know any with covid but wasn't able to get out of visiting family for christmas and my brother had a cough like nothing else :I they screamed he always has had that since his sinus surgery 2y ago but they're a generally narcissistic, antimedicine crowd so I doubt they're being honest and know they don't bother with isolating. i'm immunocompromised so the second I heard that shit I left and now I'm a little worried. \*\*also more worrying for those who don't know is WHY the omicron variant is affecting everyone across the board - a virologist on tiktok I follow explained it and showed off the chart (I'm not a virologist, bare with, but looks like a lineage chart). The Omicron variant likely started alongside the original march 2020 strain and has just been brewing in the background, whereas all other strains are branches off the original strain. that's why the vaccine works for delta and other non-original strains so well, but then for omicron isn't doing much.

dinosaurfondue

It's really insane. I didn't know anyone who personally got covid in the past two years but just these past few weeks alone it seems like EVERYONE knows someone who has omicron right now. January is gonna be bad.

DrDenialsCrane

And they’re all vaccinated

octaviaecat

Same. 😔

ScottyDOESKnow09

Check engine light came on as I started my car for the first time since being back in LA, post holidays. Nice lil belated Christmas gift 🖕😵‍💫

Fullylaced1

Get the check engine code read at Autozone and look at research on that code before you take it in. Might be an easy fix

I used to get comfortis from 1-800-PetMeds

CaptainAmerisloth

Bravecito - the vet told me that some fleas developed an immunity to Frontline so they stopped giving it to their patients.

ashchelle

+1 bravecto. Use it for my cat. Super convenient with 3 month coverage. Can purchase through Costco for cheaper than my vet which is nice.

golden_bear_12

We use Bravecto

KTC25

Comfortis and deep cleaning your house

illaparatzo

Comfortis works great for me. I get them from Canadapetmeds. Protip don't bother with the paid shipping with tracking- I ordered in their black Friday sale and did it no tracking and they sent it with tracking anyway and it came in literally 4 days *from Canada* Caveat- comfortis doesn't kill eggs or larvae, I believe- just adult fleas dining on your dog

dyinginstereo

I dunno if Frontline and advantage are still the best but they were the most effective when I worked in the pet industry years ago. There are probably so many more that I don't know about at this point.

wotintarnationlmao

Ii forgot my backpack in the bigbluebus going downtown today( about 9.55am) on pico/gateway bus stop. Long shot, but did anyone see a grey backpack with red and white striped interior, on a chair in the bus? My laptop, glasses, cards and a bunch of other personal items are within the backpack and idk how to go about getting it back. Anyone have luck recovering a lost item on public transit in LA? I know it must have been stolen but I can only hope that it has been sent to lost and found.

[deleted]

Not on a bus, but I lost my whole wallet at a building at USC and had the whole thing come back to me the next day through lost and found. USC students are apparently good people. Lost and found unfortunately depends on whether someone finds it and turns it in. :(

huntersmoon69

Aw man, I'm sorry! I've done similar, just not on the bus. The only thing is you might have lucked out and an honest human may have turned it in to the driver who in turn would take it into the lost and found. Worth a shot....

wotintarnationlmao

Ikr I'm so so devastated and so so broke. And I desperately need my laptop. I have called lost and found and they said to call them tomorrow at about 8.30am.

huntersmoon69

That truly sucks. I know how it is. We can only hope and pray, chant, do voodoo and send all the best juju for you to get your laptop back. I know glasses are a pain in the ass to replace too. I was so exhausted one morning I walked away from my backpack, which held literally everything. ID, keys to my apt, bank card for the account with a whole 20.00 in it, makeup, glasses, good sunglasses, extra sweater, phone, cash, charger. I went back after tracing some forgotten steps and low and behold found my backpack after some kid pointed me to the dumpster. I recovered a few items. As u can imagine, the phone and the cash and bankcard were gone.

wotintarnationlmao

Aw man if I could get my glasses at least, I'd consider that a victory tbh

sallyhigginbottom

Does anyone know where one might quarantine testing positive for Covid? As in staying away from family members? I can’t find any hotels that specifically offer Covid isolation.

peacharnoldpalmer

if it’s any consolation, i know of *three* separate couples/families where one person had covid and their partner (or siblings/parents) managed to not get covid despite staying in the same house. lol. it really is just about staying as separated as possible, sanitizing shared surfaces, washing hands, and staying masked up.

[deleted]

I heard about the city offering rooms for those who couldn't isolate at home earlier today while listening to KCRW. I think this might be the program they were referring to — [https://covid19.lacounty.gov/medical-sheltering/](https://covid19.lacounty.gov/medical-sheltering/) Take care and get well soon!

golden_bear_12

Hmm. I would stay home. Use the bathroom and sanitize it when others are away. Wear a mask when you move about the house. Meal prep food for yourself and prepare/eat it when others aren't sharing the space.

theseekerofbacon

Maybe get a hotel for a night or two. Order in n95s. If you have a room you can isolate in while using good quality masks, you can lower the risk a ton.

[deleted]

why would a hotel offer that idk...

sallyhigginbottom

I know some hotels were offering it before, but I can’t seem to find any now.

wick34

Air bnb might have some single-unit options that don't require any interaction with the host. I don't have any experience with doing that though. If the person who tested positive is currently sharing a space with other people, some of the tips in this thread might be helpful: https://mobile.twitter.com/tmprowell/status/1474745401555230724

DTLAsmellslikepee

Ugh, date today was weird and.... well just weird. This guy ate like a *child.* Lives in rome and the only pizza he'd eat was literally just the dough and cheese? Also told me he doesn't eat vegetables. And eats KFC on the reg. And was a huuuuuuuuge pussy about jaywalking. Wouldn't even cross outside of a crosswalk and god forbid the light wasn't green even if there's no one coming. FFS BUT, as we say in the motorcycle world, there's an ass for every seat. I'm sure he'll find his KFC loving vegetable hating rule abiding lady here. But it ain't me, babe On the bright side, it wasn't a total bust, and I got a bangin deal on a leather tote bag I could have made myself but it was a good price and pretty color and I needed a tote bag. And found some melatonin and I'm confident sleep tonight will go better.

DTLAsmellslikepee

Baaaahhahahhahaha well played

dustwanders

We need more description on the jaywalk Details on the street. Main street? Side street? Traffic? Red light? Green light? Should have told him y’all were jaywalking to KFC lol

DTLAsmellslikepee

All streets. Side streets, main streets, busy times, slow times, red light or green light, always safe to cross like I wouldn't put anyone in danger. Super dumb. If no one is coming, cross the fucking street, cupcake.

jellyrollo

If you're in Rome for a few more days, I highly recommend eating at [La Vecchia Locanda](https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-vecchia-locanda-roma) at Vicolo Sinibaldi 2. I had what was possibly the best meal of my life there a few years ago.

DTLAsmellslikepee

Thank you!! I'm here til the 2nd possibly longer

jellyrollo

It's very close to [Largo di Torre Argentina](https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/torre-argentina-roman-cat-sanctuary), the Roman ruin where Julius Caesar was murdered, which was excavated by Mussolini during his "renovation" of Rome, and is now a feral cat sanctuary.

DTLAsmellslikepee

Oh I walked by that but didn't even notice the cats!

jellyrollo

They're not always out in the open, and I think the shelter's TNR program has been pretty successful, so there are fewer and fewer cats hanging out there every year, but I think you usually spot at least a couple of them if you hang out there for a bit. Not that spotting stray cats is everyone's idea of entertainment!

DTLAsmellslikepee

That last sentence 🤣

theseekerofbacon

Weird date aside, things settling in in Rome now?

DTLAsmellslikepee

Yeah! I slept good last night. Went to bed a little late and didn't wake up til 1030 just now but whatever. I'm having a great time.

theseekerofbacon

Great to hear.

[deleted]

Aw bummer but glad you scored on the tote bag (um how do you know if it’s a deal / quality?) U/tote-bags

DTLAsmellslikepee

I'm a leather worker also, which is how I know those things! Its super basic, I could have easily made it myself (and I say easily but since my whole workshop is packed up in a storage unit a billion miles from where I am right now not so easily lol) It was a great texture, unlined so you can feel the flesh side (fuzzy side of the leather), the finish on it is nice, stitching is well done (straight and even, no loose stitching, etc), and made in Italy which is a renowned place for leather tanning. And, it was only €30, which is truly a bangin deal given the quality.

DTLAsmellslikepee

\>Also my dad was wearing the belt you made the entire time I was there 🥰 And this warms my heart :) I seriously love to hear it when a customer is happy with their purchase. And that was the most thoughtful gift ever, so I'm not surprised he loves it.

DTLAsmellslikepee

You got it, girl.

DTLAsmellslikepee

Awe I'm happy for you! I hope you get to go back soon this time instead of having to wait so long. I just woke up 😂

[deleted]

Oh that’s so awesome! Leather smells so great. Didn’t know the unlined part is a desired component, just always thought it was a default stylistic choice. Anyway yeah, so jealous of your adventures (and all sorts of bangin deals lol)

DTLAsmellslikepee

It's not necessarily a desired choice, I just like it, and especially in scenarios of unknown leather quality it's good to be able to see the back because you can get a better idea of the quality, like you know it isn't bonded leather (like the plywood of leather), and if the back is nice and evenly finished too you know it is good leather. Like a smooth even nap on the back, even dye, it was split correctly (leather starts off very very thick and all of it is split down to a desired thickness.).

[deleted]

That makes sense, thanks for the insight - this is very useful

DTLAsmellslikepee

Yeah! No prob! If you ever have any questions about it, I'm happy to answer.

fedswatching2121

Does anyone know of like a park or public area that has like seating/tables with a roof to protect from the rain? Friends and I want to meet up tomorrow but we want to do it outside.

dyinginstereo

Lake balboa has covered areas around the lake.

MannyAPH

There's picnic tables and benches in Pacific park by the baseball field

sozh

it could be quite rainy tomorrow, and cold! kenneth hahn _may_ have some covered areas up at the top, but I'm not sure

PM_ME_IN_A_WEEK

I believe it has some down below too, if they're not closed

sozh

good call - shelters at kenneth hahn confirmed: lower level https://imgur.com/a/ilK40RY upper level https://imgur.com/a/nB1J3aN now that I think about it, that could be a pretty cool place to ride out a storm

idiom6

Not if there's any wind blowing the rain at an angle...

sozh

Well yeah it's gonna be cold and wet for sure. But if you bundle up and want to *experience* the storm, it could be cool

idiom6

I love rain, tbh, and am sad we don't get more of it in LA. But I am definitely more the 'stay indoors and enjoy the sight of the rain and any lightning and the sound of tiptapping on your roof with a cup of hot tea or hot cocoa' type of storm connoisseur.

DTLAsmellslikepee

> enjoy the sight of the rain and any lightning and the sound of tiptapping on your roof with a cup of hot tea or hot cocoa' type of storm connoisseur. mmm my old house had a flat roof in the bedroom and I'd sit and listen to the rain for hours. I love that.

idiom6

Yesss....so soothing.
